Second failure of brake vacuum booster on 1996 GMC Jimmy 4wd - actual milage 38,910. The brakes on this vehicle have never worked properly since new. I have had it to the dealership numerous times - no better. "a rolling non-braking nightmare to drive !! second alternator, 4th battery, rust in automatic transmission,driver's power-window motor @ 30,000 miles his vehicle never been used "off-road. It is driven by an older woman to and from work, shopping, & pleasure.

Vehicle has non-engaging transmission as at times it will not shift though it is an automatic and sometimes it starts out in 2nd and then drops down to 1st. Service engine soon light illuminated on 3 occasions as there were emissions problems. Front end makes constant popping noise. Problem has been lubed on 3 or more occasions as well as coil springs have been replaced and lubed. Brakes went completely out while trying to stop at an intersection. There was a rupture in the brake booster.

Failure of brake booster make vehicle difficult to stop was concerned until I was able to get the car to the dealer for repairs. Dealer said he has seen alot of these vehicles come in with this failure.
Consumer was traveling 40mph on highway and applied brakes, pedal went all the way to the floor. Dealership's mechanic told consumer that brake booster was defective.

The power brake booster malfunctioned, causing very little braking, which may have caused a crash. Same problem as the investigation # pe99024. Please provide further information.
This is the second Jimmy I drive (too loyal for my own good. ) the first one a 1995. Also had a booster failure at around 40,000+ miles (luckily I was able to coast on that occasion to a full stop without causing any damage to anyone. This one a 1996 has failed, like clockwork, at 45,000 miles.
Brakes went out while driving, booster went out and replace discs at 17,000 miles.
Brake booster went completely out, causing poor braking ability. Consumer has contacted the dealer. Please provide any further details.
