: the contact stated a letter was received letter in October 2005 on NHTSA recall #05v379000, concerning the anti-lock brakes. The recall remedy repaired the wheel speed sensors; however the abs light remained illuminated. The module to the abs was replaced which was not covered under the recall. Updated 2/24/2006 -.
E. B. C. M. Shorted abs pump runs constantly chevy dealer wants $ 1200 to fix it. 1999 GMC 2500 pickup.
Abs faulty, replaced, now actuates when it shouldnt.
I started up my 1999 GMC Sierra one morning last spring to go to work and when pulling out of the driveway a loud noise started coming from under the cab and the abs light came on. I had it checked out by an independent garage who found it to be the ebcm. The truck had less than 45000 miles on it and had never been off road so it hadn't been mistreated. The module has stayed on and the abs light is on always. I tried to get gm to own up to the faulty part but they refused. I think it is shameful that gm puts low quality electronic parts in their vehicles, and charges so much for the parts. The ebcm costs over 900 dollars which is a lot of money. When you pay over 30,000 for a truck you expect it to last a long time. But gm is not interested in making quality anymore. Gm told me that this was a very uncommon problem, wrong, on the web I found many people have had the same problem and in fact there is a rebuild kit for them. I also had my 4wd control module go out at 140 dollars just to replace a push button.
Nhtsa action # pe05020 - I submitted a complaint (odi id# 10120245) for my 99 GMC Sierra truck last spring for the abs control module failure. You "closed" the investigation on 9/13, and gm issued a recall. The problem is that gm still charged me over $1000 for the replacement abs control module that failed, causing the loss of abs totally on my truck, per my complaint. I would not have been able to get my truck inspected in vt without the abs working so I had to pay up to GMC to replace the module. Was this to be covered or not? if not, why? it seems that this abs module failure is a recurring theme for gm(c) trucks. Please respond by e-mail.
I have a 1999 GMC Sierra half-ton pickup truck with only 29k miles. Last week, on my way to work early in the morning, my abs pump activated, unable to shut off even with ignition turned off. Local garage had to pull power to shut off. Subsequent gm inspection resulted in being told the abs control module was corroded and needed to be replaced at a cost of nearly $1000 dollars, much more if the pump was damaged also. I now have only normal, no abs, brakes. And both abs and brake lights are on in dash. This is a known defect and since canada has recalled for this problem the us should too. Most of us will drive with only std brakes because we cannot afford to pay out a thousand bucks for fixing something that should never have happened in the 1st place. And this is a safety issue here in snow country.
Anti lock brake ecbm fails, abs motor stays on all the time, loss of antilock function, loss of proportional braking to rear wheels. I suffered a total loss of control on slippery road surfaces, truck spun 360 at slightest touch of brakes told $900 to repair, common failure for this model and year.
Anti lock brake light on and anti lock brake pump will not shut off.
Brake problems/ failure of abs brake system on GMC truck: I just paid over $ 800 last fall to reputable mechanic who told me that all 4 wheel brakes and rotors were gone at 35000 miles of normal on road driving. Now he and another good service garage tells me I have a bad brake module (at 39000 miles ) which is going to cost another $900 or so. Worst of all, research at your site seems to indicate that the brake system has never worked properly and will never have the reliability that I paid ( and am re-paying ) for. The truck is out of normal warranty but I am looking at so called "secret warranties" and complaint sites so that I am well prepared when I visit the dealer ASAP. I hope they are not as disappointing to me as gm is.
On 11-15-03 I had the electronic brake control module on my 1999 GMC Sierra go out. Which I found out is a very common problem for these trucks around 80000 miles(mine about 81000) the repair was a total of about $1150. 00. Seven weeks later on 1-9-04 my truck is now in the shop for the same problem(ecbm) plus the abs pump and the dealer now says it will be another $950. It appears that a problem exists when so many people have the same malfunction at almost the same time.
1999 GMC Sierra electronic brake control module malfunction caused abs motor to run after engine shut down. Potential fire hazard.
1999 GMC Sierra 34719 miles I had failure of the electronic brake control module.
My 1999 Sierra GMC truck abs module has gone out, causing me to loose my abs brakes. It costs 829. 00 to fix and in my research I have discovered that it is a defective chip in the module and GMC knows about it but has not issued a recall. My truck only has 63,000 highway miles on it.
While vehicle is running abs light is always on. When vehicle is parked there is a loud humming sound coming from the brake pressure modulator. Vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the consumer that the brake pressure modulator failed.
Abs went out. Dealer said that it would cost $795 for module and $130 for instulation. Only have 35,000 miles on truck. (GMC Sierra).
Anti lock brake control module shorted out requiring stopping on busy road and removing a high amperage fuse from road side of vehicle, and loss of anti lock brake capacity. Vehicle has only 34000 miles.
Abs control module failed on 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. GMC dealership diagnosed failed wiring in abs pump resulting. I think the abs system should be absolutely reliable as this is an important safety feature.
After driving vehicle consumer kept hearing a humming sound coming from the front end. Upon closer inspection, consumer found that abs control module was still running, even with the engine off. Consumer had to disconnect the module to keep from draining the battery.
Like so many others, the abs control unit failed. Truck was operating normally then the brakes were applied and the abs pump came on and stayed on, even after the engine was turned off. The fuse was removed to disable the system and shut the pump off. The abs system remains disabled after we found out what the repair costs. . Read more...
1999 GMC Sierra abs motor stays on continuously. Had to pull the fuse to stop it. The ebcm had to be replaced. The repair cost $1,105. 00. The technician said he had seen it before and I see that many people have complained of the same issue on this site. The failure occurred at 46,775 miles which is also consistent with other data presented. GMC needs to do a recall and compensate us for the expensive repairs.
Abs light is on, took the truck to the garage, said it needed a new ecbm, 700. 00very car and truck on the road has a problem, now, why shouldn`t the manufactures, be responsible for there mistakes, we pay enough for there mistakes.
Anti-lock brake system defective; still not repaired.
Abs control module failed. After turning off vehicle, abs module continued to run. Had to disconnect abs module to stop it.
Abs module failure. My truck had problems with the abs activating since it was new. Just recently I have joined the ranks of owners with continuously running modules. When I found out it would cost at least a grand to fix, I pulled the fuse.
I experienced a humming sound coming from my vehicle when the engine was not running. I went to a gm dealer to see what the problem was. The service tech said immediately that it was bad wiring in the abs motor causing it to run at all times. This was a repair that needed to be completed immediately because the motor was running off of my battery. The dealer said that he has seen a few of these vehicles with the same problem. I proceeded with the repair and spent about 900. 00. This is not a recall, at least I am not aware of it, and should be investigated.
While driving the driver heard a loud noise coming from underneath the drivers side door. The noise continued after the vehicle was turned off. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership to have it serviced. The technician indicated that the automatic braking module failed.
Abs module went bad and caused the pump to run continously. I had to unplug the electrical connection to the pump to make it stop. I now do not have abs and the indicator light stays on. When I inquired about this obvious safety defect at the dealer, the repairs would be greater than $1000. At the time this occured, the truck had less than 50k miles on it.
I have a 1999 4 wheel drive GMC Sierra and I have had a lot of close calls with accidents, because the anti lock won't stop at low speeds. They replaced both front hub sensors and the problem still continues. They did it right after the warranty expired. I only have about 35k on my truck. All the rotors peeled and they just turned the rotors down. I later paid to have all new rotors and brakes on all 4 wheels replaced, but the anti lock brakes still activate and make it hard to stop at low speeds, almost causing a few accidents at times.
1999 GMC Sierra abs module had to be replaced. While driving the abs module locked up which in turn ran the truck's battery down.
Abs light illuminated and a humming noise continued after the vehicle was shut off. Dealer determined the abs control module must be replaced.
Consumer states that stopping distance has increased, and that braking capability intermittently does not function. Dealer diagnosed that the anti-lock brake module had failed.
When the engine was turned off, the abs module contined to run. Ak.
While driving vehicle abs and parking brake light illuminated. When this happened it caused brakes to lock up. Could be very dangerous in a sudden stop. Please provide any further information. Ts.
