Leaving work to go home hit the brakes to avoid a person running a stop sign. Peddle to the floor. Had my wife come pick me up. Ended up replacing all the lines from the abs block forward. The truck had rocker panels replaced 3 years ago due to rust. That is cosmetic. Brake failure could be fatal. I looked under the truck and noticed an overly above average amount of rust. The frame is so bad it may not pass inspection next year. Please gm take care of us loyal (maybe not much longer) GMC owners.

- the contact's 1999 GMC Sierra was difficult to stop when applying the brakes. After taking the vehicle to a service center the contact found that the brakes were still not repaired properly. He read in a consumer magazine which stated that the 1999 GMC truck Sierra has the worse brakes. There was a recall on the 2000 GMC truck Sierra on the brakes, stating that the base brakes would remain fully functional, but the dynamic rear proportioning (drp) system, which optimizes front to rear brake balance would become inoperative. The contact believes that both model years had the same failure. While driving 40-50 mph and applying the brakes the brakes failed. Due to the brake failure the contact had problems with the tires as well. It felt as if the wheels were coming off when the contact was braking. Updated 2/22/2007 -.
When stopping on a bumpy road, or when stopping and hitting a bump, brakes pulsate, or actually push back. This makes it very hard to stop. I almost hit a pedestrian yesterday morming on the way to work. I was almost stopped, hit a small construction trench in teh road, and my braked failed. By the time I let off the brake, and reapplied them, I was inches away from hitting that person! I had this vehicle to the dealer for repairs for this, shoutly after buying it. I was told that there is nothing wrong with my brakes. When I have an accident, I will then filke suit againt jones pontica / GMC, and general motors. This is dangerous, and needs to be fixed.
The brakes have failed, I mean failed, no brakes on four different times. My truck is a death warrant waiting to be issued . Dealership states there is no problem with it. On Jan. 5, 2000 I went through a major intersection because I could not stop because of having no brakes. I pulled to the next parking lot, and caled dealer to come and get it. That this was the last time I would put myself nor my family in danger with this truck. They have picked this truck up 3 different times and have not fixed problem.
The caller said at speeds 3-10 mph the anti lock brakes would kick in, and the consumer would not be able to stop the vehicle. She said there was a recall and she had the recall work done. The caller had the hubs were replaced once less than two years ago at manufacturer's s expense. Dealer said the problem was in the hub and that was not covered by the recall. Manufacturer offered no help for free. She said her husband has had a close call with a wall. He stopped in time. She said the vehicle had to be put in park once to get vehicle to stop. The truck was returned to the dealer the day after the recall work was performed to have the hubs replaced. , which the dealer told her that was causing the problem. Gm refused to pay for the hubs even though this was the cause of the documented problem in the recall. When the mechanic was pulling the vehicle into the shop, the brakes failed and he crashed. The bumper, the chrome on the grill, the fog light, and the piece below the bumper were damaged. The dealer says he will pay to fix the problem.
While slowing on rough or bumpy roads brakes fail for 7 - 10 seconds. Dealer claims this is normal for the abs.
