12 problems related to service brakes have been reported for the 1999 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My vehicle was parked overnight with the emergency brake on. Sometime the next day I started up my truck and released the emergency brake, all seemed fine. I then released my foot from the brake pedal to proceed to back up. Gave the vehicle a little gas to do so, went to apply the brakes again and had them go all the way to the floor boards. In order to stop I had to allow the vehicle to hit into a telephone pole. No damage to either other than a scuff. This is not the first time this has happened. Underside of the vehicle is completely rusted and mechanic says all lines need replacing. Going to cost upwards of a $1000. This is a very common failure with this vehicle and something needs to be done to prevent loss of life!.
: the contact stated while applying brake pressure at any speed the rear wheels locked causing the vehicle to skid on wet or icy roads. The dealer inspected the vehicle and determined the abs pump needed to be replaced. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The VIN was not included in the recall.
Consumer states: anti-lock brake system, when applying it makes weird noise, and has to push brakes to the floor. Had to do 4 times, was under 5 mph and pedal kicked back, and it grabbed. Just got abs serviced and new fuse put in. Had to take out fuse for the brakes to work properly. Could hear whinnying noise before taking out the fuse, and light came on at the same time. Dealer hooked up vehicle to diagnostic machine, replaced right front hub and bearing assembly, and still having the same problem.
While going at a slow speed the brakes pulsated and wobbled. The consumer brake pedal doesn't work after it jumps up and down. The consumer hasn't taken the vehicle to the dealership yet.
During many occasions since I purchased the truck(new) ,the abs system would activate as I am applying the brakes and the truck is almost stopped: loud shudder, the truck would keep rolling even after pressing hard on the brake pedal(at walking speed);it has been a rather scary experience all along as more than once ,I came close to hit other vehicles and my garage door and back wall.
The vehicle tends to come to a rolling stop when the brakes are applied and at the same time the driver feels some hesitation in the rear of the vehicle. This could be dangerous because the vehicle can hit an object in the front. Manufacturer will be contacted by consumer.
On occasion when brake is applied there is sudden loss of. Resulting in having to apply full pressure to the brake pedal and eventually coming to a gradual stop.
Abs motor would not stop running - had to remove fuse. Ecb module, and tamper proof bolts replaced.
Abs brake modulator locked up.
#1. Rt. Window intermittent. Satisfied with repair #2. Abs sys. Lite on. Abs sys. Inop. Cost was to be $1200, but after neogations repaired under warranty. (vehicle was over 36 mo. Warranty. ) I feel this type failure is too premature @ 26,00 mi.
