When returning from a trip, the truck was shut off and the ignition key was removed. The truck continued to run, flashed code p0758, check 4wd, check brakes, abs failure. The truck did this for two days while driving home and would stay running without the key from 2 to 16 minutes and could be put into gear and driven, all without the key.

When is there going to be a recall on the rusted brake lines, I already crashed in 2006 with the abs system which failed and was a failure to start with and when they fixed, the fix only lasted for 14 months and since then I have be driving with conventional brakes,so are they waiting for me and others to crash again with these rusty brake lines. P. S. Going on 3rd. Set of rotors in the rear, only 65,000 mi.
2002 GMC Sierra 1500 low speed abs failure. Currently under recall # 05v37900 and gm recall 05-068. After recall was performed the abs is still failing and this vehicle will not stop when under 5 mph. The true failure mode is not the abs sensor corroding, it is the wheel bearing having extreme wear and it renders the hall effect signal that the sensor reads bad. Details: at 50k miles I had the same low speed abs failure. The truck was out of warranty at this time and I had to purchase genuine gm replacement parts and replace both front wheel bearing and sensors on my own dime. This fixed the first abs failure. Then the recall came out for just the wheel sensor, not the bearing. Now 12k miles later (truck has 66k miles) the driver side wheel bearing is now so sloppy that the abs sensor will not read the hall effect. This causes the low speed abs failure mode again. I have pulled the abs fuse under the hood so that the low speed failures stop, but now the truck has non functioning abs. Lastly, after 12k miles on the replacement gm bearings there is so much slop in the bearing that the dealer has suggested that I should not drive this vehicle due to safety reasons. The driver side wheel is close to falling off the vehicle. I contacted gm customer service at 1-800 GMC truck by the recommendation of my dealer and gm customer service is has yet to contact the dealer for resolution in this matter. My only choice it to replace the wheel bearing at my own cost and I have already done that once 12k miles ago only to have the failure occur again. I will have to continue replacing the wheel bearings for the remainder of this vehicles service life to maintain a vehicle that can safely transport my family. I have no confidence is this vehicle remaining safe for any extended period of time. What can nhsta do about this problem?.
The contact stated the abs did not activate . There was NHTSA recall, campaign 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however , it was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The abs control module malfunctioned, causing tne abs system to fail. The contact wants GMC to expand their recall or pay for a new module.

The contact received a recall 05v379000 concerning abs brake failure. Repair work was performed and the vehicle still had the braking problem. He took the vehicle back to the dealership, and they stated there was nothing further that could be done. He called gm, and they told him to take the vehicle back to the dealership. If the problem was not related to the recall, he would have to pay for it himself. He was going to take the vehicle to another dealership this evening.
The contact received NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000 concerning the anti-lock brakes. Both wheel sensors were cleaned by the dealer under this recall. Although the recall work was completed the contact abs failures. Recurred. The abs engaged at low speeds. He took the vehicle back to his certified dealer once since the recall work was completed, and the right front sensor was replaced. But, problem still occurred. He had another appointment to take the vehicle back to the dealership this week to determine what kind of solution was needed to remedy the problem.

The contact stated the abs module on 1999 GMC Sierra failed. He noticed this when the warning light came on the dashboard. When he turned the vehicle off the pump in the abs module kept running. The dealer said this was not related to the current recall 05v379000 on the abs brakes. He found information on the NHTSA website that there were numerous complaints filed regarding t abs module failure and that it related to the current abs recall.
2002 GMC Sierra. The consumer states the abs brakes started pulsating, and consumer's vehicle hit another vehicle. This caused the brakes to go out. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, they told him the abs sensors failed. They were cleaned and now they seem to be okay. This problem has not happened since. There was no warning light on when this happened.
Nhtsa action # pe05020 - I submitted a complaint (odi id# 10120245) for my 99 GMC Sierra truck last spring for the abs control module failure. You "closed" the investigation on 9/13, and gm issued a recall. The problem is that gm still charged me over $1000 for the replacement abs control module that failed, causing the loss of abs totally on my truck, per my complaint. I would not have been able to get my truck inspected in vt without the abs working so I had to pay up to GMC to replace the module. Was this to be covered or not? if not, why? it seems that this abs module failure is a recurring theme for gm(c) trucks. Please respond by e-mail.
Abs brakes failed at low speed when trying to stop. I hit a small tree and almost hit a fire hydrant.
While parking on an icy pavement, the abs failed and caused the vehicle to hit and roll over the concrete parking divider. Vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer cleaned the corrosion off both front wheel sensors. The consumer stated that his brakes failed 3 times under 5mph. The consumer stated that the vehicle also has engine trouble and has had trouble since purchase.

Whenever the vehicle was coming to a stop or turning into a parking space the abs failed to operate. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop on two separate occasions. First time, the mechanic cleaned the brake system and resurfaced both rear rotors. The second time the mechanic removed and cleans the abs sensors. On both occasions the problem recurred. The manufacturer was notified.
Abs system failed, sensor faulty causing abs to engage at 3-4 mph, preventing vehicle from coming to a stop easily. The consumer noticed that all four rotors were rusted to the point of necessary replacement.
On 2 separate occasions vehicle experienced abs failure. When this occurred there was a 2 second delay reaction before the abs engaged. Vehicle had no brakes for 2 seconds. Without warning between 4 to 7 mph, abs system blocks the braking action which caused an extended stopping distance.
We parked at a convenience store and upon stopping to park the abs pump started whining and would not shut off even after turning off the engine. Service manager at jim fuoco motors in grand junction, colorado disconnected the wires to the abs relay system under the frame of the truck. He said the abs relay module under the frame is faulty and that it would cost over $1000. 00 for parts and labor to replace due to faulty diodes on the system. He advised that the truck can be operated without abs system connected and the brakes will operate as the older pre-abs brakes systems did but on icy roads or hard stops the truck may skid and lose traction. The truck had 47,000 mile on it when this occurred. This occurred several months prior and gm still refuses to repair the problem or recall the abs system. I noted on this site that there are multiple complaints about abs failures including many similar to mine. Why has this problem not been recalled as a safety issue? the abs systems on these trucks are faulty from manufacture, not from use. Are they waiting until someone is seriously injured or dies?.
Abs control module failed. While engine was not running the abs motor still was. Not knowing about the $1,100 failure(quoted from a dealership) I left it alone for a short time while the 60 amp system sucked my battery dry in less than a half hour. After readings hundreds of forums and complaints, I believe something needs to be done. I found the TSB (#220101 dated 04/06/01, anti lock brake motor running while engine off). So this "problem" has been identified but not corrected(ignored) in almost three years. A $1,100 problem!.
The consumer experienced an intermittent problem with extended stopping distances when braking at any speed. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop. The mechanic cleaned the abs sensors and both front hubs. The abs system failed completly when the consumer backed the vehicle up.
Consumer stated that while driving and without warning abs failed. Dealer notified.
Abs failure.
Abs control module failed. Module continued to run after vehicle was turned off. $1000 to repair. No recall inspite of numerous complaints to NHTSA. Dt.
The consumer stated the abs failed under 15 mph. When pulling away from a stop sign or backing out of driveway the consumer felt a bit of shutter and also experienced an increased braking distance. The consumer stated it happened frequently as the sensor became worse. Consumer stated that abs sensor had already been replaced previously. Consumer traded vehicle in for a new car and stated it's somebody else's worry now.
Anti-lock brake motor continues to run after the ignition is shut off. Dash lights confirm abs failure. Removed abs fuse to stop motor. Ebcm confirmed bad. @$800. Just for part. Belive that this failure is premature and considering the number of complaints that I see posted at just your web site I think gm should fix this part under an extended warranty.
I think the abs system should be recalled I've talked to several truck owners and the 1999 all are having abs failure. The pumps keep running even after the trucks are shut off. I took it to the dealer in hanover and they said it would be over $1000. 00. That I would be better off leaving the fuse out so much for abs. Dt.
Abs system failure light on, pump motor runs with key in off position.
Abs module failure. Chevrolet replaced at a cost of $912. 49 + tax. Shouldn't fail at such low mileage. Possible problem for many pick-ups. Submitted due to safety related component and to aid, or assist in determining possible recall. Thank you.
Module in abs failed at 37000 miles - pump continues running while truck is running or off.
Abs motor failed. Contacted dealer and he said he thought there was a recall for that and he would look it up. Caleed and said no, recall was NHTSA 00v055/gm recall # 00013, and this was for the 2000 Sierras. He further explained that this was for a spring clip that might render the abs motor useless. I went ahead and had the abs motor replaced for $1087. 34. I wrote to gm and asked for some type of compensation do to the low milage and the fact that the lease wasn't even up on the vehicle. They responded with a resounding "get lost". I contacted the dealer and through a mechanic, I found out that numerous of these motors have failed. I contacted a competitor dealer and was told that the failure of the abs motor was "not uncommon" but they would not give a figure. My question is to you, do you have the means to inquire how many of these motors have failed? also if the recall was for 2000 Sierra's, with enough complaints, could that also include some other year models? the dealer has been unresponsive as to making any type of compensation. I feel the obsolescence of this part is much too soon, in my case 57,000 miles and 3 years of driving this vehicle. Thank you. Recall_id = 10178.
My abs brake system failed completely. I called gm who still have not returned my calls. I contacted the gm dealer here in cheyenne. I was told this is a common problem with the 99 z71; however, there is no recall on this item. I was told theabs motor has gone out and the cost of the part is $700 with approximately $1500 in labor. I continued to question on since this gm dealer in cheyenne is replacing these abs brake motors so often, isn't this consistent with a defect? this is a hazard having your abs system go out in the ice. The gm dealer told me to contact gm to find out about replacing the part at no cost. Again, I still have not received a call from them. My question is, if this is such a common problem in the 1999 Sierra z71 why has this not been recalled? do we have to wait for a fatality to occur first?.
Consumer states that when pressing brake pedal, pedal will go to the floor and vehicle coasts to a stop. There was no indication that brakes were failing on the dash. Took to dealer and there were no codes that indicated brake module was bad. Consumer is concerned that someone may get run over. Dealer found abs cab module was failing.
Repeated abs brake failure. This has not been corrected despite numerous attempts to repair problem(s). Heater motor malfunction, repeated wiper arm replacement, tailgate handle malfunction.
Abs failed, causing extended stopping distance. Contacted dealer and they replaced the abs front hubs.
On 10/23/01 I started my truck and reversed in my driveway, and my brakes locked up. I put the truck into park and shut off the ignition. At that point I heard a humming from under the transmission. I disconnected the battery at that point and contacted s&k poniac in springfield, IL, the local GMC dealer. I explained what had happened and the service manager knew exactly what it was, without even seeing the truck. I was advised my abs had failed and that repair would not be covered under warrenty. On 10/24/01 I contacted several service centers concerning repairing this problem and learned that this is becoming a common failure in this model/make of truck (chevy's also) at the approximate same mileage as I am at. The repair is extremely costly and because of the way the abs is intregrated into the vehicle it cannot be disconnected. I have discounted auto insurance because the abs is on this vehicle, standard practice in the insurance industry. I searched for a recall, or any information,. On gm's website but was unable to find anything related to the abs failure. I am concerned that this very imporant safety feature is failing in many of this make/model/year truck and that a recall should be done. The manufacturer must be held accountable for safety related features. I own a Nissan and all safety features are covered for the life of the vehicle.
Abs module failed, causing a humming noise from beneath the vehicle, the noise did not stop when the engine was stopped and the key was removed.
