6 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/26/2020

On the morning of oct 26, 2020 @ 845am. . . I was heading south on 287 in mansfield TX. It was raining hard so I was only going 60 mph. The car in front of me was going 55 or so. When the rain and wind picked up, the car in front of me abruptly hit its brakes. That's when my truck brakes locked and I began sliding or being pulled to the right. I was in the left lane on the 2 lane highway. Had it not been for god and me, not panicking. . . I would have crashed! my truck fish tailed twice while I was trying to apply the brakes but. . . I couldn't stop. I almost put the truck gear in neutral but it was raining so somehow the truck managed to slow down going up a small hill, giving me control back. There were 2 other cars that seen this. I was a nervous wreck! I immediately got off the highway and went to the first gas station I saw and thanked god nothing happened. The problem I have is, what if my family were in the vehicle? how is it that gm is allowed to sell these vehicles? also, I searched almost every website and included my VIN. . . But every reply says my truck is ok (until today). I haven't had this truck for a year yet. But I'm ready to trade it in. I don't feel safe at all. I almost want to get my truck towed home. Why put people lives in jeopardy?.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

4 months ago the display portrayed a message stating, trailer brake warning, have system checked. Since that time I have attempted on numerous to have my vehicle checked. But as of this date I have not been to have any dealership look at my vehicle. I have been told by dealership that the vehicle computer shows a history but no current error codes, and they can not work on vehicle until it has current codes. So I have a truck that is designed to tow cargo/vehicle but I am not able to use my truck for that purpose because of this warning message. I have contacted dealerships, customer service with GMC and even filed a complaint with tennessee dept of consumer affairs, but no one wants to help with my problem. I have noticed on the internet that I am not the only one with this issue. Dangerous situation should someone use vehicle towing. Biggest problem gm does not want to even acknowledge that they have a problem.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/30/2020

Apparently, the 8 speed automatic transmission has issues with wiring harness and hard shifting which the manufacturer has 18 service bulletins out on yet still will not recall and fix problems. Also the brake system is faulty and unsafe it loses pressure and even braking at various speeds. After taking it to the dealership they can not figure out why and say it is various parts and should be recalled but it is not as of yet. Gm knows of these issues and the 1000s of dollars customers have to pay for these repairs. This is wrong and needs to be rectified.

9 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/15/2020

Brakes squeak. Started about 3000 miles. I have complained to dealer several times.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/29/2020

After parking and backing up when I hit the brakes, they got hard and did not operate properly. When pulling forward the brakes were hard to operate and barely stopped the vehicle. After sitting a while and restarting the truck they operated as they should have. Not sure if this is an operable safety issue but, it was very concerning that the brakes did not operate properly.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/26/2020

I live in oregon, my truck that I purchased from a private owner from utah in June of 2019 had 37,300 miles today's date March 1 2020 my truck has 39,100 miles. A couple of days ago I changed to my oregon license plate. While under the truck I noticed a lot of rust on many parts of the brakes, suspension and frame especially when I lowered the spare tire which showed severe rust damage. This truck has an extreme amount of rust for a vehicle built in 2017. I consider this to be a safety hazard especially because drivers use this type of truck to haul or tow heavy loads.

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/13/2020

Truck was recalled for brakes. Recall completed was computer issue. That recall caused brake vacuum to malfunction. Almost cost me my life. 70 mph in dallas TX traffic. Had to slow down quickly. Once it slowed down then it wouldn't stop!!! got it to a parking garage almost hit 3 vehs. It was traumatic. Gm knows about this issue. Many others have reported. Not happy!!!!! gm extended the brake warranty to 150000 miles. That makes me feel better. They put same part back on. So I guess it will happen again. I'm very leary of my truck.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/09/2020

I was backing up at very low speed the brake pedal got very hard and the vehicle acted like it did not want to stop I had to keep pushing extremely hard on to the break to get the vehicle to stop I tried it again in drive and the vehicle did this exact same thing this time I noticed after paying particular attention that the brakes while they were hard to press were pulsating so I had to use extreme leg pressure to stop the vehicle. My truck has already had the recall for the same issue earlier this year. When this 1st happened it almost caused me to wreck into a fence.

14 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

In my driveway on dry pavement at slow speeds when pressing the brake pedal the vehicle does not stop satisfactory. The brake pedal was then pressed until it was very hard the vehicle continued to move but slowly began to stop. When pressing the brake pedal to the maximum and a firm pedal a noise could be heard from under the hood. The noise sounded like a moan, similar to the brake anti skid system being activated. I was able to simulate this braking problem multiple times while backing up and moving forward at slow speeds. Cycling the ignition on and off did not correct the problem.

15 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

After using app to start the vehicle, I sat in the driver seat depressed the brake and pushed the start button. Immediately a warning popped up saying esc needed service, service trailer brake, speed limited to 62mph. Additional lights illuminated including brake, traction control, abs, and cel. Since the dash indicated that the speed was reduced I thought it would be safe to drive, however at the first turn I realized my brakes were nearly gone and I went through the intersection. The brakes appeared to have lost the boost and were extremely hard to depress making it difficult to stop the vehicle. I limped the truck home and notified the dealer. The next day I tried starting the truck and the brakes returned with no dash messages although the cel was still illuminated. There is a recall for a similar issue but it looks like my VIN is not apart of it.

16 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/28/2020

My brakes are not working to its full potential. I believe my vacuum pump is going back on my truck. I noticed last week that I was driving out of a parking lot and coming to a stop sign and I pressed my brakes and it was not working properly. I had to release the brake and slam on the brakes again almost causing a accident with incoming traffic. I called all my local dealerships and stated that there was no recall on this just yet for my truck, but there is a recall on the vacuum pump. They stated they already did the software update to my truck back in September 2019. My truck was going maybe 10 mph to a stop sign and I applied my brakes once and was not completely stopping, so I took my foot off the brake pedal, and it got worse and I had the brakes pressed all the way down to the floor. This is not safe! this is my daily driver and I drop my kids off to school every day and its not a good feeling knowing my brakes can go out at any time!.

17 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

Noticed mushy, vibrating brakes. Took it to tire store and was advised the brake booster and vacuum pump are bad. I've had several close calls in parking lots, as the vehicle is slow to resond to the application of the brakes. The drivers seat is also loose. It moves from side to side as I go around corners. I'm afraid it will come off the rails or worse yet, not secure me in the event of an accident.

18 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/07/2020

I started my vehicle on January 7th 2020 at about 4:00pm to return home from work I received multiple warning lights and the check engine light went on. The warns read "break system failure 62 mph too speed", "service esc", "steering assist is reduced drive with care", "service trailer break system". The vehicle would not break properly I would estimate the breaking capacity at 30% from normal. I turned off the vehicle and restarted it about 5 minutes later, all warnings were gone but the check engine light was still luminated, the vehicles performance was reduced and breaking was at about 80% of the normal capacity. I have made an appointment with the dealer for imidiate service I slowly and carefully drove the vehicle home. The vehicle has approximately 1403 miles on it.

19 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

The first issue is a bluetooth issue. The phone volume goes silent when I get in my vehicle. If I connect to car play, it works. I have missed important calls due to this issue. This started in July of 2019 and its not fixed yet. Gm says it apple. Apple says its gm I do not care just fix it. Second see below images. You know the issue. This happened to me 3 times. It started 12-05-2019. Then again 12-26-19 . Serviced . 1-4-2020 again. 1-18 20 again and to shop until 1-23-2020. This took a lot of my time talking with my dealer. I understand I am one of many, but I didn't spend over $66,000 to buy, lease this vehicle to have to waste my time. This cost me time, money and honestly every time I start the truck I wonder if it will reappear. I received 2 calls fro representatives, gianna and michelle. I called back 3 times, left voicemail and have heard nothing. At this point, I am requesting for gm to end my lease and I give you this truck back .

20 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 dinali. The contact stated that while driving the power sterring gave out and when the contact tried to brake the vehicle took a long time to stop. The dealer ballas Buick GMC 5715 central Ave, toledo, OH 43615 (419) 464-7699 stated that there was a lose in communication from the vehicle computers to the power steering system. The dealer had the vehicle for three weeks. The manufacturer could not initially tell when the parts were going to be available. The manufacturer called the contact back on 01/31/20 and stated there was another recall NHTSA recall number 20v-055000. The contact said the dealer did not mention that fact. The contact wanted to make sure that recall repair was done back at the dealer. The dealer will call back when they have the part available to do this lastest repair. The failure mileage was 4,500. Tf.

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/19/2019

Vehicle frequently exhibits loss of braking power. When this occurs, something sounding like the abs systems is sometimes engaged by the vehicle and other times not. While gm claims braking performance meets federal standards, the braking power is greatly reduced when the hydraulic system is engaged and almost non-existent when neither vacuum pump nor the hydraulic system functions. Even if the braking performance meets federal standards, it creates a dangerous situation when the driver is not expecting a failure. A GMC dealership has admitted there is an issue and recommends replacing the vacuum pump but has been unable to source the parts in over two weeks and has no eta for when the part will be available. Meanwhile the braking power loss condition occurs every time the vehicle is driven. During the first instance, I was towing a travel trailer in stop and go traffic down a 7% grade. Had it not been for the trailer brakes, this could have been catastrophic. The second occurrence involved backing into my driveway and nearly causing a collision because of poor braking performance. Now that I fully aware of the issue, the vehicle is driven sparingly (only when absolutely needed) and with great care. The characterization of this issue by gm as not being a grave safety concern is inaccurate. Their inability to source parts in a timely manner is inexcusable.

22 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

First and most importantly my brakes are my main issue and safety problem. I nearly ran into the car in front of me at a busy intersection. My trucks brakes lose pressure after the first initial stop coming to any traffic lights, stop sign, slow traffic, parking lots etc. . . No matter how slow or fast the trucks movement is. First break attempt is ok but 2nd starts losing pressure and 3rd attempt is complete lost of pressure anf and the truck just rolls until it slowly comes to a stop. I worry about the safety of myself and others motorist regarding this issue. My second complaint is my driver side mirror. Every time I get into my truck and start it. My driver side mirror moves out of its setting and I constantly have to fix it.

23 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/10/2019

The past month as I push on the brakes driving on the road my steering wheel starts to shake as the brakes are being applied. Does not happen all the time has actually only happened 3 times in a month.

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/26/2019

While braking pedal feels like gurgling and at times complete loss of power assist making pedal very hard to depress all were in motion and intermittent making dealer diagnosis difficult and not yet able to replicate so dealer refuses to do work.

25 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/23/2019

October 2019 went to the dealership to have breaks worked on given recent recall about the mechanical vacuum pump output may decrease over time, decreasing the amount of vacuum/power brake assist. However, shortly after getting the recall done on my truck (1 week later) I was in the parking lot backing up out of my parking spot and the break pedal became really stiff and I couldn't push hard enough to stop the vehicle from moving. I just kept rolling until I hit the curb. So far this has happened a dozen times and all when I was moving about 5 miles an hour the exact same way, pedal becomes stiff and I couldn't stop the truck from moving. I feel like things are worse now after getting the recall done. This was never an issue before and as I look at the recall notice, it state incomplete, telling me possibly the manufacture knows there's still an issue but no fix has been done yet, even after 4 months.

26 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/19/2019

Lost brake assist. Coming to a stop the brake pedal whet to the floor and the anti lock brakes started chattering. The brake pedal was hard as a rock and took 2 feet to stop. I was on a 170 mile trip and almost hit someone 2 times.

27 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/08/2019

For NHTSA recall 19v645, why did NHTSA accept a reprogramming of the functionality to band aid the issue rather than requiring replacement of the vacuum pump, which is the identified defective item?.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

Original issue: brake pedal hard to push and truck did not stop normally at low speeds. Could reproduce issue usually pulling into a parking spot. My vehicle would have hit car in front of me if I hadn't used ebrake. Took to dealer, dealer applied software update to braking system. Upon pickup I discovered the original issue persisted and now had an additional issue. Now at almost every brake event, the abs would engage and cause the brake petal to chatter/vibrate. Dealer and gm customer service tried to tell me that was normal after the recall update. I told them that couldn't be normal. It wasn't happening before. After not excepting that as a fix, the dealership started looking for other possibility's. After telling the dealer I was going to take the truck somewhere else they decided to replace the vacuum pump. The new vacuum pump fixed both issues! I'm just saying if the recall update is causing more problems then what it was intended to fix. Now there could be a more serious problem on the highway. Please look into these issues. I feel like gm is trying to hide a big problem.

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/22/2019

A few times my brakes while going slow would get very tight and not work. Well today after church I was leaving the parking lot. As the car in front of me moved forward, so did I. When I tried to stop I couldnt. My brakes got hard and went to the floor and I ran right into the car in front of me.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

Anti-collision system is activated, I apply breaks, break peddle is soft and goes to the floor, I swerve to avoid collision and quickly pump the breaks to regain peddle and apply breaks again (this time brakes engage). 6 different times this has happened. 4 times on the interstate during rush hour and twice on a highway. Car in front of me slammed on the breaks cause the system to activate and me to react. It appears the system overrides the brakes taking control away from me. However, the system does not brake the vehicle. Another occur was when I was launching my boat into the lake. I was backing up and lost brake pressure and had to apply my emergency parking brake to stop my truck from going into the water. This vehicle has been checked by 2 different dealers, 4 different times in the past year. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. The date listed below was the last occurrence when this happened. (not the prior 5 occurrences).

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/29/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra denali 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being reversed at under 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to operate as intended. The contact crashed into a tree which caused damage to the passenger's side door, fender and side mirror. There was no injuries. The vehicle was taken to van buren Buick GMC located at 2257 jericho turnpike, garden city park, NY 11040, (516) 535-9508, to be diagnosed which was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000. Ah.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

As I was backing up I applied my brakes and for some reason nothing happened which resulted in my hitting my wife's car and damaging her drivers side quarter panel. When I asked GMC about the issue they said it was just an error on my part. Now I find out that there is a recall on the braking system that the pressure to the brakes may be affected. Who is responsible for the damage to her car?.

33 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/28/2019

When at slow speeds, brakes get hard and have to put a lot of pressure to stop the truck.

34 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

On 5/28/19 I filled my 2019 GMC Sierra denali at the local gas station. As usual I turned the vehicle off. After fueling, I started the vehicle and began pulling out of gas station. Upon exiting I lost all braking power and the pedal went to the floor. I was going approx. 5 mph. I pulled over and had to step on the brake pedal until it was on the floor with extreme force. The check engine light also appeared on the dashboard. At approx. 4:41pm I recieved an onstar email with an antilock brake problem. Email suggested I take the vehicle for service within 7 days. I had GMC roadside tow the truck from my home to the nearest dealer(staten island Buick GMC) I leased the vehicle from coleman Buick GMC and when I contacted them I was told they couldn't help and the dealer the truck was towed to is still gm. I also contacted gm customer service. Received a case # and waiting to be contacted. As per coleman the vehicle has recalls for a trailer brake module and park assist. As per si Buick GMC they could not find any computer codes. The hydraulic test showed no issues. They claim to have upgraded the computer and the truck was safe to drive as of 5/30. They want to test drive again on 5/31 and I assume I'll be asked to pick up my truck. I find this to be unacceptable and a major safety issue. Thankfully I was going 5mph when I lost full braking. I was told if the issue happens again to bring the truck back in for diagnostics and repair as needed. This safety issue can potentially cause physical injury and or prove to be fatal. Depending on technology to determine braking capacity is absurd. 2019 GMC Sierra also have electrical problems duly noted by customers. Forums also mark the same braking problems have occurred with other owners in different states. A recall should be issued for the safety of drivers, passengers and pedestrians! lives are at risk and a recall is needed!.
