1 Brakes Failed problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/26/2020

I nearly died when my brakes failed on my 2018 GMC denali this morning. I was only going 60 mph when another driver cut in front of me, and hit their brakes but when I tried to stop, I could not! I then began swerving from lane to lane because it was raining. Thank god I didn't die and that the person on the right slowed down and moved out the way. The truck seemed to be pulling me to the right. Why I have no idea. But why is gm putting people lives at risk like this? why are we having to suffer or put our families in jeopardy. This makes no sense. My chest started hurting really bad afterwards, because I was so scared. I was on a 2 lane highway going straight but even that doesn't cause a vehicle not to respond like it did.

2 Brakes Failed problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

My 2017 GMC Sierra denali had already been the subject of the recall relating to the brake issue. Shortly after they performed this recall work the brakes began failing at low speed. When driving below 5 mph, the pedal which suddenly fall and the abs would trigger. During this time, the car would continue moving with the abs fully vibrating. Thankfully, my trailer hitch absorb the rear impact against a wall. The problem continued. I then took the truck in for service and they reported that there has been a significant failure rate of the vacuum assist. The dealer replace the vacuum pump and vacuum lines. I'm extremely concerned that this would happen to someone else near an intersection, not just slowly backing into parking spaces. I have contacted GMC by email but still have received no response or acknowledgment of my communications.

3 Brakes Failed problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/05/2020

After starting my vehicle remotely using on-star, my brakes stopped functioning properly. . . After remote starting the vehicle using my on-star app, we entered it, depressed the brake and pressed the start button. At that time I received multiple error messages, stating "brake system failure, 62 mph top speed" "service esc" " steering assist is reduced drive with care. " I restarted the vehicle a number of times and the error messages went away. I then began to drive home and after about 2 miles the error messages all came back and my brakes stopped functioning. I was able to use the full force of my body on the brakes to get the vehicle to come to a stop from around 30 mph in my neighborhood. Had I been on the highway or on the main street I had just been on I likely would not have been able to stop without hitting another vehicle or object.

4 Brakes Failed problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

5 Brakes Failed problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

Reference the complaint number 11306627. The vehicle had the brake recall notice n192268490 complied with at the dealer in November 2019. The vehicle then experienced a brake failure in February 2020. Please add this information to my original complaint.

6 Brakes Failed problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/24/2020

After starting vehicle using the mygmc app, I received the following warnings: 1. Service trailer brake system 2. Steering assist is reduced drive with care 3. Service esc 4. Brake system failure 62 mph top speed 5. Check engine light. Vehicle was stationary and I did not drive afterwards. Truck was in for service last week to complete recent recalls and replace a leaky rear window. When I pick the truck up, I noticed the lane keep assist, lane departure warning, intellibeam headlight, forward collision alert, and other functions associated with the window mounted camera system were inoperable. I have an appointment already scheduled for that and will add this for the dealer to investigate. Truck was taken to dealer for recall on 1/7/2020 and I got it back on 1/18/2020 because of the window replacement.

7 Brakes Failed problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/18/2019

The vehicle was in for replacement back up camera module and the dealer stated that the fix for the active brake system failure recall was completed. After starting the vehicle in a parking lot, several messages displayed in the driver information center: brake system failure 62 mph top speed, service esc, service trailer brake system, service brake assist. Additionally, several warning lights for the abs, parking brake, tcs, check engine light, etc were illuminated. After acknowledging the messages, I placed the vehicle in reverse and noticed that the brakes needed to be pressed with full weight on them to get the vehicle to stop. I placed the vehicle in drive to park back in space and the same issue with the brakes persisted. I turned the vehicle on and off 4 times and the messages finally stopped displaying and the brakes appeared to work as they normally should, although the check engine light remained lit. The vehicle was driven to the dealership and no resolution has been given for the issue to date.

8 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

Yesterday afternoon while backing out of parking spot, my brakes became unresponsive. The pedal was extremely hard to press and would not stop the vehicle. The result was the vehicle rolling down an inclined parking lot and hitting another vehicle. Normal braking had resumed when leaving the accident. This is the second time for the brakes to become unresponsive at low speeds. Approximately 1 month ago the same situation happened driving through a parking lot. Brakes became extremely firm and unable to stop the vehicle. No damage resulted from that incident. After reading several message boards, it appears to be a widespread issue with this vehicle that results in replacement of multiple power braking components. I currently feel extremely fortunate that my brakes did not fail 5 minutes earlier while picking up my child from school.

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/23/2019

At 38,200 miles, the truck experienced a loss of break pressure while in a parking garage traveling at low speed causing the vehicle to narrowly miss hitting a concrete upright. After realizing there was a break issue, vehicle was able to be carefully moved from the parking garage by coasting on the break. After restarting the vehicle, the first depress of the break seemed to give full pressure, but each subsequent depress gave less and less pressure. Vehicle had to be towed to nearest dealership and is currently awaiting diagnostic. Problem appears to be part of ongoing investigation into brake vacuum pump failure (NHTSA action number: pe18012).

10 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/31/2019

Brake failure issue at low speed. This happened in two separate occurrences in parking lots. The brake pedal became very still and required grabbing the steering wheel and using it to pull myself down harder on the brake pedal to get the vehicle to stop. This resulted in greatly increased stopping distance. Fortunately no vehicles or people were in my path during these occurrences. Gm has since repaired my vehicle. I have since received a notice that they are repairing this issue only after the owner has a brake failure problem. This is extremely unsafe and is unacceptable. Owners need a solution and do not need to worry that this issue will arise again. If I hit a person or a vehicle, will gm pay for medical bills, vehicle repairs, legal fees? this truck as well as my last 2009 Chevrolet silverado had issues with the drive train that gm classified as normal. These trucks should not have drive shaft clunk when stopping at a traffic light. These vehicles have major mechanical concerns and their quality is trash!.

11 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/18/2018

No warning of brake failure especially when backing down a hill at low r. P. M with a boat trailer. This is a very dangerous problem that needs to be addressed a. S. A. P. No warning lights were displayed and no issues before this happened. I'm just glad it was me and not someone else ( wife ) backing us in the water. Please address this as a very serious issue. Someone could have lost their life.

15 Brakes Failed problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/05/2014

I did not know about this site and this accident happened in oct 2014. I was going around a curve with 40 mph speed limit and I was going 40 mph. I started to brake as this was downhill and a very large truck and I did not wish to increase speed as I followed the curve. My brakes did not respond and sank to the floor with no resistance. I had no steering ability either. I ended up in a head-on collision with a very large tree and the airbags failed. I split my head open on the steering wheel despite blocking my face with my forearms crossed; a DE-gloving 10-12 inch laceration down to the skull that wraps from my nose bridge around to my right ear in the circular shape of the steering wheel. My right leg was pinned into the center dash area as the engine block and steering column were shoved into the cab. I had to be removed from my vehicle with the jaws of life by emergency response teams. I am lucky to be alive. My quadrasteer was declared totaled by usaa insurance and destroyed without my knowledge. I called usaa 3 days after the crash after finding so many brake failures on this vehicle/year model and was told it was already destroyed, so doing an investigation was not possible. I have lived in pain and also paralyzing fear of driving since then; 3 years. I am a disabled military veteran with ptsd and prior brain surgery and this accident caused to me isolate so severely I could not even attend medical appointments due to my new fears of driving & riding in vehicles. My life is now ruined by this accident. Decreasing va disability due to inability to attend appointments caused a $1000. 00 per month loss of benefits. I can't afford my bills and have been struggling with the va to gain access to medical evaluations since they are now striving to cut benefits from anyone they can. Please recall now!!!!! who else has to be hurt or killed?????.

23 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/28/2011

Brakes failed, vehicle brought to a stop using 1st gear and parking brake, narrowly avoiding accident. Parked in parking lot and brake fluid drained to pavement. Dealer advises replacement of all brake lins as all are severely corroded (estimated cost - $2,400). Vehicle is exactly 5 years old with not many miles. Used in canada in the summer and florida in winter months. Only exposure to salt and snow is when encountered on trips to and from florida. Vehicle was undercoated at purchase. Very dangerous failure, most certainly must have been fatalities given the number of reports and could have been us yesterday or when towing 5th wheel RV.

24 Brakes Failed problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/07/2011

Leaving work to go home hit the brakes to avoid a person running a stop sign. Peddle to the floor. Had my wife come pick me up. Ended up replacing all the lines from the abs block forward. The truck had rocker panels replaced 3 years ago due to rust. That is cosmetic. Brake failure could be fatal. I looked under the truck and noticed an overly above average amount of rust. The frame is so bad it may not pass inspection next year. Please gm take care of us loyal (maybe not much longer) GMC owners.

25 Brakes Failed problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/22/2011

I experienced sudden brake failure in my driveway. There was no warning light, just the brake pedal going to the floor. My mechanic looked at the failed line and said all my lines and abs unit were corroded and needed to be replaced. He also found my right rear spring hanger was rusted off and the spring was just resting on the body. The rear wheel brake backers plates are rusted off also, and the entire frame is very corroded. This is a huge repair bill that may exceed the value of the truck. This is not normal corrosion. I have lived in nh 55 yrs and have never had a vehicle rot like this. I have a 2000 Volvo v70 with 147,000 miles on it with no issues. Obviously gm cheapened this truck up or bought defective parts. I have found hundreds of accounts on the internet identical to mine. This vehicle needs to be recalled before people are killed. I am thankful I was in my driveway and not highway or city driving at the time of the failure. Do the right thing and hold gm responsible. There would be no gm without our tax dollars and they need to make this right. Thank you.

28 Brakes Failed problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/11/2006

My 2001 GMC Sierra pick up truck 43k miles , brakes failed while attempting to come to a stop in the parking lot of the long beach 24hr family fitness center resulting in the vehicle hitting a wall on Jan 11th 2006. I pushed the brake pedal to the floor and no brakes available. While foot on the brake trying to stop the vehicle, there came an indeterminate pulsing sound and vibration on the pedal. The vehicle hit the parking structure wall at a very slow speed (about 3-5 miles per hour). The truck is under an extended warranty and the dealer found the front left wheel bearing and hub to have excessive play and was replaced with my $100. 00 deductible. The damage to the truck was totaled at $2828. 20. This is still an issue and gm has told me that their is nothing wrong with the brake system, however there are recalls in the north east states for the same problem, and over 250+ cases reported in crashes. Living by the ocean and where there is salt air present and with the 850k trucks recalled makes sense. Gm can recall all of the trucks for tailgate support cables nation wide that are caused by corrosion but not a brake problem that effects trucks nation wide?.
