While towing our RV trailer the trailer brakes become disabled. This is a known problem to gm and they have a TSB (23-na-113) "information on trailer brake disabled or dtc stored" this is a know problem and gm solution seems to cast the blame on the trailer manufacture.

When attached to a trailer with solar panels, the truck will intermittently disconnect the trailer electronics which disables the trailer brakes and trailer lights. This is because the solar energy is back flowing to the truck via 7 pin connector and overloading the circuit. Having a truck disable the trailer brakes and lights intermittently is very dangerous. Earlier model years of this truck do not suffer this issue. Gm is aware and has TSB but no solution has been found on the truck side without disabling the solar panels on the trailer.
Trailer brake system continues to pop up “service. ”.

I am receiving an on-and-off “service trailer brake system” when towing and sometimes when not towing. Checked every component and alert does not stop. When this happens while I’m towing, trailer brakes stop working momentarily.
Bought the truck brand new. Within a week the service trailer brake warning light came on. Has been to the dealership 3 times and they still cant fix it. This affects towing of the trailer with no trailer brakes.

I was in an accident on October 20th 2022 while driving home. U had just reached the top of a sharp crest on a two way road. As I started to straighten out the wheels coming out of the turn I noticed my direction was still as if I was turning the wheel. I tried to brake and pressed the brake but it went to the floor and the truck kept going. I collided with the other vehicle and it was a miracle neither of us were seriously injured or killed. We had problem with the steering box about 2 years ago and had to have it towed to the dealership. The other vehicle was a chevy 2500 with a custom steel flat bed & it slowed me down and I finally came to a stop with the front tires off the road. Neither vehicle alerted onstar & airbags did not deploy. His vehicle miraculously had minimal damage to the cab the majority of the damage was the metal gear box located under the bed in between the cab & tires. It was super scary & left both vehicles disabled.

I purchased a 2019 GMC certified 2500 diesel truck with 48000 miles I started getting alerts on my dash stating trailer brake system over and over. I would press the dismiss button but it would not stop from appearing and dinging over and over. I took vehicle to dealer ship since I have remaining bumper to bumper and extended warranty coverage. To my dismay I find out the dash trailer brake system switch is faulty. Good thing I had an extended warranty since the bumper to bumper does not cover electrical. While truck was still under warranty the same alert came on but the GMC dealership did not find and issues. I feel the trailer brake system was defective from the start. I am being force to pay over $300. 00 out of my pocket since my extended warranty did not cover the entire cost. Shame on you gm for putting cheap quality parts on expensive trucks. . .
Service trailer brake warning comes on repeatedly. Trailer brakes fail to work.

2014 Sierra 2500hd sn (1gt120c83ef176464) leaving on vacation towing camper with family bosch cp4 fuel pump issue left me stranded on a hwy 9 just outside clinton, ar which is a 2 lane hwy with no shoulder. The vehicle gave me no prior warning, dash board suddenly read power restricted followed immediately with complete power loss as I reached to top of hill. I was forced to steer and brake the truck and camper with no power, down the hill to prevent vehicles from passing at crest of hill. This left me and my family and numerous other drivers in a very dangerous situation as cars tried to pass. I had to open the hood and try to determine what was going on. I directed traffic until a van buren county, ar sherriff’s deputy arrived scolding me to get the truck and trailer out of the highway. I was forced to unhook trailer in middle of hwy and leave it. All the while, vehicles passing in danger of head on collision because there was only one officer directing both sides of traffic. Gm is aware of this issue that cost me $10336 at gm dealership where repaired. Had I been aware, I would have had this replaced this bosch cp4 part to prevent the unsafe conditions I encountered. One message came on dash, restricted power, and I was powerless. Final bill stated “found injection pump has come apart internally and has put metal through the system. ” internet search stated: according to injectorsdirect. Com, the 2011-2016 duramax suffers from a high pressure fuel pump issue unique to this year-range model. Failure of this cp4 pump is usually catastrophic, causing metal particulates to contaminate the entire fuel system. Please help this from happening to another person. These trucks are advertised showing families pulling campers traveling through mountains. That is exactly what my family was doing. I have additional documentation if needed.

Truck has had multiple issues related to the electrical system and truck modules. It is my opinion that these are all related to voltage issues or module problems. I have had multiple infotainment issues with delays loading, freezing up etc. Dealer has ran updates and checks with nothing found. In October around $35k miles the truck radio would not work if I used the push button start. If I shut the truck off opened the door and let everything reset I could push the start button in the truck and the radio would work majority of the time. The next day I went out to a completely dead truck. I talked to my service department at the local dealer and they said I would need to bring it in but suggested I disconnect the batteries and recharge the batteries. After doing so everything started working correctly. It fixed my radio problem and never went dead again. Since then I have experienced popping noises through the speakers when playing music occasionally. Over the last few weeks I noticed the engine does not attempt to increase cold idle speed until I press the brake to put it in gear. January 22nd I hit the autostart button and it did not work. I started the truck and it had cel, traction control, park brake and wrench, lights on with service emissions, and power reduced messages displayed. Truck is running odd. Codes present are (engine gmlan)p0118 - engine coolant temp circuit high voltage, (brakes gmlan_abs) u0401- invalid data from engine control module, p0562- system voltage low, (hvac controls gmlan_hvac) b1325 - . Control module power circuit. Truck is starting and charging fine. No connection issues at batteries. There are many TSB's and many complaints regarding similar issues. Common brake and emissions faults with minor differences. Module failures, communication faults, and or electrical faults are likely causing all of these similar issues. They need to be categorized as the same failure group which will show gm has a bigger issue.
Was driving truck down driveway at about 5km per hour and the parking brake automatically engage bringing the vehicle to a sudden and unexpected hard stop. Brought to dealership, then said they cannot duplicate the problem and therefore there is no action to be taken.
Ok my issues is the same recall on many other 2017 GMC 2500hd but not my VIN. Recall number n172120230 (rear wheel hub but loose). In my situation I was driving at low speed went to stop and abs light came on from oil on my rotator, I also heard a knock from the rear wheel. I pulled over and looked under the truck to find my axel seal leaking fluid all over my tire and breaks. I looked into the facebook form on this problem and found many people with the same issue. Had the truck towed to the dealer where the are refusing to repair and not coving under warranty for 1” bigger tires. My truck only has 39,000 miles and a axel seal should not be going out, and if so should be covered.
Brakes lines failed under truck do to rusted out lines.

Brake pads have excessive squealing. Squealing implies incorrect pressure to rotor to stop the vehicle, which highly concerns me as an operator. According to the dealer where I reported the issue, there is a technical bulletin that approves replacement of the brake pads for free if reported in first 7500 miles. My truck exceeded that mileage when I noticed the squealing. If this was a recall for the defective brakes, the dealer would cover the costs to repair, but not for a technical bulletin according to the service department, and confirmed by GMC. I now have to pay $1500 to replace brakes on a new truck with 15000 miles on it, or risk my safety. I believe this should be a recall and appreciate any assistance in this matter.
Brakes make a noise when I brake. I am only going about 25 miles and press on brake the brakes don't seem to stop right. There's a ticking noise coming from the engine or brakes.
When connect my trailer I get a service trailer brake system, then the stability waring start to show up and the brakes on the vehicle seem to act funny. Very unsafe while towing a trailer and kids in the truck. Very unsafe.
I keep getting a warning message "service trailer brake system". The warning may come on for a second or it may stay on for 10 to 15 minutes. It may do it once a month or 10 times in a 2 minute period. Whenever this happens I lose the electrical braking system on what I am towing. There is no set pattern or circumstance for when or how long it will happen. I was told if the alert is not on there is not a way to diagnose the problem and since I never know when it will happen I cannot schedule any type of diagnostic service. It does seem to happen more often when it is raining but has happened in perfect weather too. The warning has occurred both when I am towing and when I am not. I've done searches for possible causes and it seems to be a common problem. I regularly tow a 12,000 lb. Fifth wheel RV with my family. I cannot afford to lose my ability to stop in a reasonable amount of time. I simply cannot do it when I lose my trailer braking system. The date below is the last incident.
Break lights activate by them selves. Can be driving, parked, vehicle off. Parked and locked. The break lights activate randomly. Most recently car was parked in drivevway over the coarse of 2 days. Break lights came on and off until batteries were dead. When parked I can hear clicking noise coming from under the hood periodically, not sure if related or not. Also noticed cruise control will shut its self off some times.
While driving my 2020 GMC 2500 denali with the duramax diesel engine, the power assist for the steering and brakes failed without any warning. This made the truck nearly impossible to steer and stop. Luckily, I was able to avoid a collision and get the truck stopped in a safe location. The truck is currently being towed to rivard GMC in tampa, FL. Doing an internet search, I found this problem has happened to others as well. Please ask gm to rectify this extremely dangerous defect.
Emergency brakes don't engage.
My brakes are squeaking very loudly they have been since August. I was driving down the road on us1 and prepared to stop to make a turn and my truck would not stop. I was making a right turn and ended up in the other lane of oncoming traffic sideways because I tried to turn my truck to slow it down. I complained about my brakes several times to the dealership they ordered me new brakes without even looking at my vehicle around August 8th. We are now at the last two days of September and they still do not know when the brakes will come in. This is a serious safety issue at this point. I have no other vehicle to drive. I bought a 70,000 truck and my and my family's safety is on the line. GMC needs to find me a comparable loaner vehicle until my truck is repaired.
During cold mornings (wisconsin) I start my truck and I have no power steering and soft brakes. It is my understanding that the power steering runs the brake boost. Also, it is my understanding that there is a service bulletin that says that the power steering fluid should be replaced with low/cold temp fluid. My concern is what happens if I lose power steering and brakes while I am driving.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed a very loud squealing noise started ( so loud that other drivers tell her there was something wrong with the brakes ). The contact also stated that the noise started ever since the vehicle was purchased in 2016. Receiving a "service trailer brake system" message while in motion on both highway and city streets when applying brakes both with and without tow\haul mode engaged. There is a recall notice #14515 on this vehicle and the NHTSA site says that all recalls have been performed. What am I to do?.

Took truck in for first oil change. I had several problems including the back tires being over 50% worn out. Alignment was off and dealer repaired that and rotated the tires. Now when I stop at about 5 mph the truck jumps. I removed the abs fuse and problem goes away. Dealer states there is no warranty on tires even if they wear out in 6000 miles and the problem was the vehicle wasn't put together properly the first time. If the roads were covered with snow I would be in real trouble. Normal highway travel around town.
Dic displays, "service trailer brake system" trailer not connected at the time of message. No frayed, loose, or corroded wires found and fuses look good. Connections disconnected, blown out, and reconnected. Message still reads every day of driving. Seemed to start after driving in rain. Maybe just a coincidence.
