1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

This is the 3rd Yukon I have owned all 2001-2003. Every one of them have had serious brake issues, abs illuminated, parking brake does not work, and light is illuminated, brake fluid everywhere, which when hot starts eating away at electrical components, or in my case at cooling system hoses. Which all lead too one issue after another. I really think that this shoudl be address becasue eveyone I speak with has the same issue. It's exhausting anf expensive too fix, but I have no choice becausei need 3 rows too fit all my children and cannot afford a brand new car.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2018

On 01/23/2018 I got into an accident. The brakes when applied hesitated for a few then finally took hold but by that time it was to late and I ended up on someones lawn after crashing through their white picket fence, then rolling completely over on its top, totally the Yukon. My concern is the no airbags deployed at all. Thankfully, I only received minor scrapes and bruises. Plus, I am very sore still. I am concerned that this could of been a worse case, where I got seriously injured or even death because the airbags did not deploy upon impact. I have notified my insurance company to make sure there is a written paper trail pertaining to these issues with the Yukon. Specifically, the brakes not catching in time and the airbags not deploying. I would appreciate a response back to this matter as soon as you can. I also believe that the accident might not of resulted in totaling my vehicle if the brakes were working properly. When I applied brakes it felt like they were catching but seemed to take forever to stop soon enough, almost a hesitation on the brakes part. Plus, the airbags did not work either. So I need to know where I can file a claim pertaining to totaling my vehicle because of faulty brakes and airbags not deploying. This could of been a worse case! thank you.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

The motor on the antilock brakes would not shut off when denali when the engine was not running. I had to disconnect battery for it to stop running.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2016

Having low speed (under 8mph) abs activation regardless of weather/road conditions. Basically the same issue as NHTSA campaign id number : 05v379000 but apparently my VIN is not covered, I live in illinois.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the anti-lock brake system engaged without being prompted causing the vehicle not to stop in a timely manner. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 246,000. Ad.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2013

Abs system activates during braking, making the vehicle almost unable to completely stop. When calling GMC, I was told that it was not covered under any recalls.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon 2500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle after it had been sitting 4 days it became apparent that the brakes and power steering had failed. The vehicle was towed to dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileage was 62,000. The VIN was not available.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

The antilock braking system activates most every time the brakes are applied, especially if the brakes are applied while the wheels are turned. This causes extended braking distances.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

I recently noticed that my spare tire was missing. I took it back to the sear auto center that has been servicing it. When they looked under the car they said that it was common for the Yukon spare tire cable to rust and snap off. So I lost the spare tire, spare wheel, and cable system to hold the spare under the vehicle. Not sure where or when it happened, but it was in the last 2 years. Just found out about this complaint service. Have also had to replace the brakes and rotors a number of times (an excessive amount), and have had to have the a/c unit repaired twice. The first time I was told that it had the wrong control head. Also, whenever I hit a bump I momentarily lose power steering.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2011

There was a recall on GMC Yukon xl 2500 series abs system campaign id # 05v379000 where the abs system will engage while braking causing increased braking distance and potential crashes. The problem occurs in the 1500 series as well why was there not a recall for this series which I have and have the same problem with? I called the GMC hotline and my local dealer and they tell me there are no recalls for my model and I don't drive my vehicle because I fear rear ending someone or rolling into an intersection when attempting to stop.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2011

While traveling on the expressway, brakes were applied to exit the expressway and the pedal went to the floor. Found ruptured line on rear axle. Date of first incident 2/5 20011 most recent 4/26/2015. . . Ruptured line under under vehicle ( drivers seat location) all lines require replacement.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

I began to notice that while executing low speed stops (city driving, stop and go traffic) my abs system would activate and the pump could be heard and felt in the braking system. This occured in all types of driving conditions, particularly on dry pavement and at low speeds, where abs is not needed. The result of this abs activation was decreased stopping power at unpredictable times. This created a safety hazard and almost caused several accidents. I ended up deactivating my abs system completely to create a reliable braking system. When I took the car in for repair the mechanic stated that this was a known issue with this particular model, however my vehicle was not a part of any recall.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). When the vehicle is at a low speed near stopping the brake kicks back as if the abs becomes activated and the stopping distance is increased. This occurs on all surfaces wet or dry. The issue has not been corrected and the parts are available. The same vehicle (year/make/model) has a recall for the same issue but I have been told my vehicle is not included in the recall per the VIN number. The gm recall number is 05068 and your report number is 05v521000. [xxx]. The system will not allow me to enter this as my VIN.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

The anti-lock brakes engages at low speeds every time I stop. This could cause front end collision because the vehicle does not completely stop when braking and I do not have control. Gm would not fix the issue on my vehicle due to high mileage even though mileage was not a factor. Other Yukon vehicles were included in the recall but my VIN for some reason was not included.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2009

2001gmc Yukon denali - abs brakes engage at parking lot speeds increasing stopping distances at slow speeds. There appears to be a recall for this (66163) and NHTSA recall campaign (o5v-379000) for 2002+ cars but not 2001. I believe that 2001 was the model year changeover where some 2001s were old body style and some new. Mine is the newer style.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2009

Recalled' anti lock brakes 2001 GMC Yukon.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2009

2001 Yukon xl abs control module total failure at 49k miles. This is a common problem that is well known and documented. Total failure of the abs system is a serious safety issue. Gm continues to charge approximately $2000 to temporarily "fix" this problem by replacing the abs control module, only to have it fail again after another 20-40k miles. The problem has fostered a cottage industry providing abs control modules with superior components for 1/10th gm price. It is obvious gm is fully aware there is a serious defect in the kelsey/hayes abs control module due to inferior design and component selection, but so far refuses to acknowledge responsibilities or provide reliable repair.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2008

After turning off car notice the abs pumps continues to run. Dealer states abs control module needs to be replaced. The happened twice so far: 1st time at 45,000 miles with an estimated repair cost of $1200 and 2nd time at 113,000 miles with an estimated repair cost of $1325. This type of fail rate seems unacceptable especially to a safety component. The failed part is still in my possession.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2008

I have a 2001 GMC Yukon SUV. The abs controller module went out at 22,k miles and cost $1900 to replace. At a GMC dealer and was not covered under warranty although the car was still in warranty. This week at ~45k miles it went out again and cost $1750 at a local garage. Some thing is definitely wrong when two such modules fail in such a short time. There is a very definite safety issue here. I am a very conservative safe driver but have learned on the internet that such failures are common. A recall should be required of general motors!.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2008

I have a 2001 GMC / Yukon xl denali which has the same issue as the NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000/ NHTSA action number: pe05020 the brakes are exhibiting this issue. When brought to the dealer, my VIN does not "fall" into recall. My concerns is that my vehicle cannot bake safely and should be part of this recall.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2007

- the contact called regarding the 2001 GMC Yukon. On February 13, 2007, the contact was traveling at 45-50 mph and rear ended a garbage truck. The contact had adequate time to stop, but when she applied the brakes, the vehicle slid into the truck. The road conditions were dry. There was one injury. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed away. The failure mileage was 126,000. The contact took the vehicle in several times to the dealer, and the dealer could not find anything wrong with the brakes.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2005

Vehicle was taken to dealer for (2) recalls during which time an inspection of the brakes required complete replacement of four (4) rotors and linings. Brake lining has less than 25% wear except for the emergency brake lining was destroyed, making the emergency brake non-functional. Dealer stated that excessive corrosion cause damage to emergency brake and unsafe condition of all four rotors. Dealer replaced rotors and brake linings at cost of $900. 00. Contacted GMC customer service to report safety issue and file claim. Reimbursement denied.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2004

The consumer was approaching an intersection and without warning, another driver cut in front of the consumer vehilce. The driver applied the brakes, but the pedal went to the floor. This caused the other vehicle to collide into on the passenger 's side and pushed the vehicle into a tree. Both frontal air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. Please fill in additional information.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

The brakes were replaced at the dealer about a year ago. There is an ongoing investigation, the number is pe05020.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

Problems with 2001 denali xl/ SUV died and there was loss of brakes, steering and acceleration. Vehicle was at idle when it died the first time. Dealership couldn't diagnose the problem but knew it had to do with the fuse. Consumer was given fuses but they all failed within 50 miles. Vehicle returned to the dealership. It was diagnosed and the electronic throttle control module was replaced. Third failure occurred while traveling 65 mph on a highway when the brakes, steering and acceleration failed. The consumers escaped unharmed. They requested an investigation and recall on the vehicle.
