Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problems of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Second incident with faulty abs module. The dealer charged over $2000 to fix in 2005 and I am having the same problem. The dealer states the part is no longer under warranty gm is putting defective parts in cars continuously and overcharging customers to have this problem fixed.

GMC abs anti-lock brake electronic module has failed twice for a 2001 vehicle. This part is critical for use of anti-lock brakes. First failure November 2004; part was replaced by dealer and I paid labor. Second failure November 2006; dealer refused to assist in replacement of same part. Vehicle requires part to be replaced for anti-lock brakes to function.

Abs and park brake light illuminated. Result was ebcm (electronic brake control module) bad which I was told by the dealer could cause total brake failure. Repairs cost $959. 00 and according to the research I have done, this is very common around 80,000 miles. Mine is at 83,000!.

2001 GMC Yukon ebcm failure. This has occurred twice in three years. The first occurrence was just over the manufacturers warranty period and GMC paid for the part and I paid for the labor only after a multitude of complaints to GMC. The module has failed again. This is a serious flaw and needs to be addressed and the dealer/manufacturer is choosing to put their customers at risk and not addressing the problem.

Failure of abs control module. Failure leads to continuous operation of actuator even when the vehicle is off. Floor pan heats up. Traction control and abs system is inoperable. Braking is affected. Multiple similar failures are noted on web searches and blogs for a range of Yukon model years, including multiple failures on the same vehicle. Replacement cost about $1080.

2001 Yukon xl 1)abs brakes resist between 1 and 10 mph; usually at or around 3 to 5 mph; consistently and only at these low rates of speed 2)usually causes stopping to be at greater distance than driver expects; although it did cause us to roll into an intersection the other day by resisting to stop. 3)my mechanic can find no problem with brakes, roters, etc. . . Seems to be related to sensor.

My 2001 Yukon xl has 50,000 miles on it. Upon startup the abs light stayed on and the pump motor continues to run. The only way to stop it is to pull the abs fuse which turns on the brake light. The vehicle is drivable but only with normal braking and no safety of the abs. I have read several other complaints on this failure and feel that GMC should be very concerned about the quality of their product. I have received estimates on the repairs but have not completed them as of yet. In states which there are vehicle inspections this problem would cause the failure of inspection which leads me to believe this is a safety issue and needs to be addressed as such.

The brake pedal had become increasingly hard to push over the course of a few weeks. Finally, the abs warning light came on and the abs pump ran continually, heating the floor pan of the vehicle. I removed the abs fuse to stop the pump. This in turn has disabled the abs and the traction control system on the vehicle. In researching the issue, it seems the repair from gm is very expensive ($1100) and uses the same version of a commonly failing part that might only last another 40-50k miles.

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl. The contact states that he has been having problems with the abs computer pump. The vehicle would make a lot of noise. It sounds as if someone was beating on the fender of the truck ,and it was probably making this noise because of the pump continuing to run. The dealership was unable to correct the problem. The contact took the fuse out of the vehicle which shut the pump off. Currently, he does not have the problem. The dealership wanted almost $1400 to correct the problem ,they where going to replace the pump. This problem first began on January of 2005.

The antilock braking system activates consistently at low speeds on my 2001 GMC Yukon xl. The manufacturer has issued a service bulletin addressing the problem but there is no recall. They place the blame on rust affecting the sensors but I have never experienced the problem on any other anti-lock braking system I have had, nor have I ever heard of the problem before. I believe the problem results from the system's design and believe it is a safety issue. I stopped driving my vehicle because the first occurences were startling and I nearly hit another vehicle. The situation did not call for a panic stop but I was startled when it activated and confused by what was happening. It could have been a pedestrian and caused injury even at low speed. The vehicle is now in for repair, which will cost a minimum of $200 plus replacement of any sensors which may not be able to be cleaned. I contacted gm and their response was that I was out of warranty. I believe the liability is the manufacturer's and the system should be modified or corrected to perform safely in all climates in which they market vehicles. Especially since many of the affected vehicles are marketed with 4-wheel and all-wheel drive performance as a selling point. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Abs brake failure on my GMC 2001 Yukon01. 1st failure occurred at 18000 miles. Dealer would only fix if I spend $600 on all new rotors & pads(all 4 wheels). Ask to check all other sensors at the time. They said the where ok. 2 nd failure 1800 miles later. Would fix for $495.

The abs control system failed on my 2001 Yukon xl at 42,000 miles. It failed again at 88,000 miles. Gm said this is an isolated problem. It is not. There is a problem with the abs in this vehicle.

2001 GMC Yukon. Abs module failed causing pump to run continuously. Rather than pay $1,000 for repair, opted to have fuse pulled (suggested by GMC service manager). Abs light on dashboard stays lit constantly now. So does the brake light. Parking/emergency brake has not worked for three years now. Two weeks ago the traction assist off light came on and now it stays lit up too. From what I read in the owners manual, this problem may possibly be related to the abs. After much internet research, I have come to learn that problems referenced above are quite common with GMC vehicles. Since the problems are related to the braking capability of the vehicle I believe there are some serious safety issues that need to be addressed. Not to mention the fact that I will lose approximately $1500-$2000 value when I try to sell this vehicle.

While driving, consumer noticed air bag indicator light flashing throughout travel at all times. Dealership serviced vehicle, and noticed brake control module needed to be replaced.

1-at low speed braking (3-5mph), the anti lock brake system causes the peddle to pulsate and groon. Several times the system just gave up and allowed the vehicle to slide into intersections, before stopping. 2-no consequences yet 3- took 2001 Yukon xl to local GMC dealer, for service. Dealer report was left front hub assembly was heavily corroded. Front rotors were rusty and needed to be cut, rear rotors were rusty and needed to be cut, also rear pads need replacement. Vehicle has only 26,000 miles. Vehicle was not repaired at this time, feeling there is a safety issue with the hub assemby and replacing other parts are not totally necessary.

Problems with 2001 Yukon xl emergency brake. Consumer heard a humming sound coming from under the vehicle and the abs light illuminated. When taken to the mechanic, the consumer was advised the throttle body and electronic brake module needed to be replaced. . Also the emergency park brake was inoperative.
