Our dashboard abs indicator light came on. When we shut the vehicle off, a buzzing motor sound still kept running. We unplugged the battery so it would not run down. We looked on the internet and found a ton of other people have had the same incidents. We noticed that many of the people who experienced the exact problems we were having, also had brake issues while driving. We reconnected our battery, disconnected the abs module and the motor sound stopped, but now we don't have the abs system activated. Is there a recall for this? it seems as though it is a recurring problem for many people and because it involves the brake system it seems very dangerous. According to other people it is very expensive to repair as well (approx. $1500. 00). Has GMC addressed this? we have a suburban Yukon xl, 2001.
Abs light came on when backing out of driveway. Drove 3 miles to a meeting. When ignition turned off the light went out but I could hear a hum. Unable to locate source of hum. Spent 5 hours in meeting and hum was still present. Car started ok but abs light came back on. Late in day so I took to local firestone service. They determined it was the abs pump. It was so hot it blistered my finger when I touched it. Tapped on pump housing to get it to go off but no success. Only way to stop pump was to remove fuse from fuseblock under hood. I am glad I discovered this. If it had been my wife the car most likely would have been put back in our garage without notice of the hum. May have caught fire. Are there any examples of this model, or other models having same or similar abs pump and abs computer, catching fire? there is something wrong with the circuit logic. It should "fail safe", I. E. Detect this malfunction and disconnect power. The part has not been removed; it has just been disabled by removing fuse.
(recall 05v-379) abs light has been coming on intermittently for about 4 years now. We have taken to numerous mechanics to no avail. Now after looking into recalls, I find that there actually was a solution, but we were never notified because we don't live in the correct area of the country. But we do live close to the affected area. I purchased the car used only 3 years after it was made. This vehicle could have been in the affected area prior to our purchase. We would like to be included in the recall. My teenage daughter drove this vehicle to school and dropped off our 8 year old to school for two years. This recall should have been expanded so that I was aware of it to keep my family safe.
I have a 2001 GMC Yukon slt, and I have had an abs issue. I heard a constant running sound, even when the vehicle is not running. Narrowed it down to the abs, and had to pull the fuse to stop it. Now my brake & abs lights are constantly illuminated. The dealers will not fix it, just replace them. Which is around a grand to do. Since there is no recall outside the "salt belt" states they won't help us. I've found someone in the area with the same problem. I research it online, and see it appears to be an common safety problem. There is a recall out, but does not apply here in fort walton beach, florida. In which were are on the coast an subject to salt waters of the gulf coast. I've noticed it on NHTSA campaign id # 05v379000. It affects "salt belt" states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhoda island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia only. . . . Please extend recall area for other locations that have the same problem. Maybe coastal areas, etc.
I have a 2001 GMC Yukon slt, and I have had an abs problem, although there was not one specific instance, which caused it. I heard a constant running sound, even when the vehicle was not running. Narrowed it down to the abs, and had to pull the fuse to stop it. Now, my brake & abs lights constantly illuminated. It had me at a disadvantage. I am a father of 2, and we often transport our parents. Generally do most traveling in the Yukon, but now apprehensive about the idea of it. Do not want to subject the family to such. I deploy a lot, and don't want my wife to drive it in this condition. I tried to take it to the GMC dealers awhile back. The dealers will not fix it, just replaced them. Which was around a grand to do. Since there was no recall outside the salt belt states they won't help us. I found someone in the area with the same problem. There was recall for the brakes, but the consumers state was not included. The abs system light illuminated. The consumer had someone look at it and was told it was not working properly. It still stops and doesn't make any type of funny noise. The abs light and emergency light stays on all the time. This started around August 15, 2005. The consumer has not taken the vehicle to the dealer.
The contact was slowing down to come to a stop and the abs light and parking light came on. He increased his stopping distance in order to get the vehicle to come to a stop. Took the vehicle to the dealer; they hooked it up to a diagnostic machine. The dealer stated it needed a new electronic box. There was no free remedy to fix the box. The seat belt on the passenger's side in the second row of the vehicle locked in the buckle, other times it will come loose while in the seat belt. Also when turning the vehicle to the right or left one could hear a clicking sound. The dealer was not willing to fix it free of charge.
While driving on the interstate the owner saw the abs light come on and didn't know what it was. This occurred in July 2005. The owner returned home from a trip. The owner heard a noise and thought it was a refrigerator in the garage. The noise continued all night. Then the owner took the vehicle to mechanic, and upon inspection, he noted abs motor kept running and had to be replaced. The mechanic unhooked the abs motor. The noise quit, but the abs light was still on. The owner knew about the abs unit module recall , and wondered if this it related to the motor having to be replaced. She did not have problems with the abs activating. This recall 05v379000. This vehicle was not included in the recall, according to her dealership.
Contact states the abs comes on while driving approximately 5 mph, causing the manual brakes to pump at low speed, leading to extended stopping distances. The service dealer replaced the right front hub and the sensor. The abs light did not illuminate, indicating there were some problems with the abs. This occurred during normal weather conditions.
