1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

(kh no dealer info) tl the contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon. While driving at an unknown speed on the highway, the contact depressed the brake pedal with excessive force in order to avoid another vehicle. The contact noticed that some of the brake functionality was lost. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a piston was defective and needed to be replaced. Three months later, while trying to shift gears, the contact heard an abnormal popping sound. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 250,000.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

Accelerated rigid brake line corrosion resulted in brake line failure and complete loss of vehicle stopping ability. Brake lines are inspected regularly and did not appear rusted. Vehicle was in motion traveling at approximately 20 mph when operator stepped on brake to slow and stop vehicle. Brake pedal felt soft and then pressed completely to floor without any braking action. Operator used emergency brake to slow and stop vehicle. Vehicle required immediate towing as it was not road worthy and was unsafe to drive without braking ability.

3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

Brakes completely failed. Traveling 35 mph, I had to brake suddenly and the pedal sunk to the floor. Had minor resistance, then just completely gave way. No brakes! was able to avoid an incident by veering into the oncoming lane that was luckily vacant. Turned onto a side street to safely roll to a stop. Too scared to drive it the remaining 1. 5 miles home, I have it towed to a shop. Advised that all brake lines need to be replaced, this is a common problem with GMC that he has seen a dozen times. The brake lines corrode, and eventually burst. Absurd! to think this could of happened on a family road trip at 65mph. . . I will buying a vehicle outside of GMC and their umbrella of poorly made vehicles- ASAP!.

4 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

Hard brake lines have completely corroded and brake fluid flows profusely from the corroded lines. Brake pedal goes to floor and vehicle is unable to stop. Had to put into neutral and use parking brake to avoid an accident. GMC service department is unaware of any service bulletins or kits to replace defective and corroded brake lines on these truck and suvs.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

Failed brakes due to the corroded brake lines- safety issue.

6 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

I was traveling appproximately 40 mph on a 4 lane street. As I approached a stop light, the light changed from green to red. I applied the brakes and they did not work. I drove right through the intersection and avoided a collision with 2 other vehicles. I was going downhill and picking up speed as I approached the next intersection. The light changed to red and by this time I was going approximately 50 mph. As 2 cars went across in front of me from opposite directions, I was somehow able to drive between them. I was eventually able to shift into neutral and drove approximately 1/2 mile until I was able to turn off of the main road and into a parking lot. I ended up having to drive around the parking lot until I was able to stop. My 15 year old son and I were extremely shaken and very fortunate to have avoided an accident and serious injury or death. We had the vehicle towed and we were told that all of the brakes lines were completely corroded and there was nothing left of them. After a $160 towing bill and a $1,180 repair bill, we have discovered that this is a recurring problem with the 2001 GMC Yukon. The dealership had 2 similar vehicles in their shop that day that had the same problem general motors needs to step up and admit that they made a huge mistake with these brake lines. This could have had a different outcome. My son and I could have been killed and/or another innocent person could have also been killed. My son says he will never ride in this vehicle again. Please do something about this situation before somebody dies, as a result of these cheap steel brake lines that corrode, especially in states that use salt on their roads during the winter months.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2014

Brakes were weak, almost to floor so the car was towed home. While slowly backing the car into driveway the brakes failed completely. Stepped on emergency brake and intermediate cable broke. The e-brake cable failed because of rust and the brake lines to the ebcm where they go over frame all failed. The only part on this car that has rusted beyond anything normal are the brake lines. Unbelievably rusted! when the brakes (e-brake and both lines) all failed the car rolled out of controlled into a tree. The rear hatch glass shattered and I had a sore neck for 5-days. This is apparently a common problem to this car where salt is used. The brakes started to go weak (1-line must have failed) as my wife approached a toll booth, only luck prevented a catastrophic event from happening. I can't believe we were not notified or the car was not recalled! gm and the NHTSA shame on you. You knew of a safety problem and have done nothing. Gm stating that you will still have brakes if the line fails is a weak argument, you have to press much harder after the first line goes and the other line is ready to fail. Guess what happens, no brakes. Please have a gm executive drive one of these death traps and hit the brakes hard. The last thing that should rust are the brake lines. A little common sense goes a long way.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2014

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

Applied brakes to stop in a parking lot. Brake pedal held briefly then went to the floor. Minimal stopping ability at that point. Narrowly missed a suburban which backed out of a parking space in front of me. All brake lines are severely corroded. Requiring replacement of all lines.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2014

The brake lines are severely rusted and this is the second failure with loss of brakes. The pedal goes to the floor.

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

When exiting my driveway I went down the street to the stop sign , when I applied the brake the peddle went to the floor and the truck did not stop. It was good that I wasn't going faster. When I took my truck ( youkon ) to the repair shop I explained the issue to the repair man. I got home and he called me back and asked me to return to the shop to take a look at the trucks problems. When returning to the shop the truck was lifted up and he showed me the brake lines and the gas lines that were corroded and needed to be replaced as soon as possible . He also explained the time and labor involved. I was surprised of how much labor and time was involved to repair these issues . He said the cost including parts and labor will be about 2,500. To 3,000. Dollars, that is if he didn't come across any other problems.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2014

Coming to a stop sign the brake line blew out on the left rear resulting in the truck not stopping and rolling through a stop sign. Had there been a child on a bike, a person walking or another vehicle coming there would have been an accident. Upon inspection by a mechanic informed me that all my brake lines are rusted out and need to be changed. Im still waiting for a quote but its said to be over $1500! gm should be accountable and these trucks should be recalled!.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

A rusted rear brake line burst resulting in increased stopping distances. No warning lights illuminated.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

While sitting at a traffic light the brake pedal went to the floor and my truck rolled into the intersection. I was able to stop it after I was halfway in the intersection. I found out that the rear brake line above the fuel tank rotted away. I also had to have both steel lines to the rear wheels and the two steel line to the front replaced.

15 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I was traveling at approximately 35 mph when the car in front braked suddenly. I pressed the brake pedal quickly and firmly to slow the vehicle, and the brakes worked normally. A half mile or so later, at an intersection, when I applied the brakes gradually, the pedal was soft and went all the way to the floor, only barely stopping the vehicle before it entered the intersection. I drove the vehicle home (about a mile) slowly and cautiously and inspected the brakes and found brake fluid coating the underside of the vehicle and what appeared to be rust or corrosion on the brake lines where they crossed the frame near the driver's side wheel axle.

16 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2014

While applying the brakes to stop at an intersection, the brake pedal went to the floor on my 2001 Yukon. A severely corroded brake line leading to passenger side front brake failed. Point of failure was at the center of the vehicle under the radiator. During removal of the failed line from it's mounting clip on the vehicle frame the brake line leading to the driver's side front brake was bumped causing it to break as well. On closer inspection it was determined that all brake lines were severely corroded to the point they were ready to fail and all lines required replacement.

17 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

While on a hill holding the vehicle with the brakes activated, a large amount of white smoke came billowing out of the engine compartment. I was able to determine that the fluid was clear and dripping on the hot exhaust manifold. The brake reservoir dropped with successive brake applications. After having the vehicle towed to a repair facility, it was determined that multiple fixed metal brake lines were corroding and one had enough to corrosion to cause a failure of the metal causing a leaking break line. All fixed metal brake lies were replace at a very high expense due to the labor to install the new lines. Part were only a fraction of the labor to install new brake lines along the body framing. Ironically, the repair shop owner had a 2500 series gm pickup truck which experience the same brake line failures just months before. In all my years of vehicle ownership, I have never experienced a complete failure of a fixed metal brake line. They are usually make of materials which prevent corrosion of the metal and therefore remain useful for stopping the vehicle throughout the vehicle useful life.

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2013

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the brakes failed. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by using the emergency brake. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was determined that the front driver's side and rear brake lines failed because of rust. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 200,000.

19 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

I needed to slow down on the belt parkway and when I applied my brakes, the pedal went straight to the floor. Figuring I may have some brakes, I attempted to brake again. There was no response other than a sickening feeling that I would rear-end someone. To slow down, I dropped the gear shifter to lower drive positions and put on the 4-way flashers. Upon exiting the parkway, I was barely able to stop for the traffic light. Fortunately no one was ahead of me and there was an uphill grade to slow me. Visual inspection of the brake system revealed hydraulic fluid soaking the area of the rear diferential on the driver's side. A hard steel brake line was severly rusted and fragile to the point of rupture. There was still some fluid in the master brake reservoir.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

Gm mechanic experienced brake line failure of rear line during a state inspection, after rear line was repaired, front brake lines failed on the gm mechanic during a test drive at highway speed. All brake lines were determined in immediate need of replacement as well as front calibers. .

24 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2012

I noticed wet spots on the road under the truck near the left rear wheel after stopping. After further investigation I noticed that the brake lines are corroded in most places. There is currently a leak in the feed line running to the back brakes at a point near the left rear wheel. The lines look as if they could fail in most places. Currently the truck is nots drivable until the brake lines are replaced. We have had other numerous brake issues with this vehicle as well.

25 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

Pulled out of a parking lot,and drove down a street. As I approached a stop sign and started to slow down the brake pedal went to the floor, and I went through an intersection avoiding cars and then slamming into a curb to try to stop this big SUV with no brake. I had it towed to the closest repair shop ,and then I was informed that not just the one brake line rusted out,but all were rusting out and could break any day now. Since day one this SUV was serviced at a GMC dealer, and not even 7 days just went by it was at the dealer for service and not once did anyone mention the rusted brake lines. This SUV was at the dealer at least 3 to 4 times a year and they never mention the problems.

26 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

I pulled out of my driveway, and found that the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to get back into the driveway. Upon inspection, I found that the brake line junction behind the left front wheel is leaking due to corrosion.

27 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

Brake lines failed due to rust while driving on a back road. Lucky for me I was not on the highway yet and was able to use the emergency brake to stop. After looking into the problem, it was discovered that all of the lines were at the point where they need to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the front and rear brake lines were corroded. The manufacturer advised the contact that they were no longer producing the brake lines. The contact had to have the brake lines customized for his specific vehicle. The dealer advised the contact that the failure was common for his year, make and model yet there were no recalls for the failure. The vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

30 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

While performing regular maintenance on my 2001 GMC Yukon 4wd 5. 3 ltr, I observed severe corrosion of brake lines at both front and rear of vehicle. Corrosion is so severe that perforation is likely to occur at any time, potentially resulting in complete brake loss.

31 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

Total failure of steel brake line (front to rear) while pulling out of a parking lot after a doctor visit I was shocked to feel my brake pedal go to the floor, luckily the split system allowed me to stop before entering a busy highway. Car was towed to a local dealer for repair the owner says this happens alot after paying a 250. 00 bill I was on my way considering risks envolved I feel manufacturers should be made to by law to use stainless material for all brake components. They must now be using a low grade steel (no doubt to cut manufacturing costs).
