The antilock braking system activates most every time the brakes are applied, especially if the brakes are applied while the wheels are turned. This causes extended braking distances.
Abs system had to be disabled because of abs pump running when vehicle was shut off. Because pump was running it caused the battery to die several times until my mechanic disconnected the pump. I was told this part would cost 1200. 00 to replace.
: the contact stated the abs activates at low speeds and there is an increased stopping distance. There is a recall, NHTSA #05v379000 concerning the antilock brakes. The vehicle is experiencing the same problems as indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due to the VIN.
We own a 2001 GMC Yukon xl which is under recall for defective anti-lock brake system. We bought the car used with 100,000 miles on it. The car originally came from michigan; however, we live in TN. The car does not stop when you are traveling at low speeds. There have been countless instances where our car hasn't stopped and we have traveled into oncoming traffic. Thankfully, we haven't had an accident involving another vehicle yet. When driving my son to school this morning, we had ice on our roads and it was even more impossible to stop. . . I worry that with winter conditions, and the need to drive slower, the possibility of an accident with this vehicle will increase. I had heard about the recall months ago on the local news and was worried why we hadn't received our notice. My husband and I have called GMC dealerships in TN repeatedly, but no one would help us until we received a notice from GMC. When I returned home this morning, on Friday, December 16, I called the GMC recall information line and spoke with a representative there. I was first informed that my car doesn't qualify for the recall because it has high mileage and is not presently in a northern state. The fact that there is no GMC maintenance record on file was also an issue. I felt that the mileage and the fact that it's not in a northern state now shouldn't affect whether the car qualifies, I was told that it wasn't those factors after all, and that the VIN number on our vehicle is traced and they felt no defective part had been placed in our particular vehicle originally. I was informed that any help from GMC for repairs would be on a goodwill basis only and that I would probably be better off taking the vehicle to a cheaper, independently owned car repair shop and have the repairs done myself. I feel GMC is responsible for these repairs. I feel if we lived in michigan, our car would already have been repaired and that GMC is using that fact to get out of funding the work.
2001 GMC Yukon abs system engaging at slow speeds. Creating dangerous normal driving stopping distances, numerous near collisions. Gm will not cover repairs in the state of WI.
The contact states there is NHTSA recall campaign id #05v379000 concerning the antilock brakes. This vehicle is experiencing the same symptoms as indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due to the VIN. There have been no corrections made to the vehicle at this time.
The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000 concerning the anti lock brakes. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due the contact's residence. He was aware of the defect before the recall was issued because of a technical service bulletin. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time due to the excessive expense. Update 1/11/2006 - the abs activated at low speeds resulting in extended stopping distance.
The consumer stated that the abs brakes engaged at low speeds, 25 mph. This has been happening for three months. The consumer has taken the vehicle to the dealer to be examined, but did not think he should have to pay for repairs. The consumer took the truck to his mechanic. But, did not have the vehicle fixed. The consumer contacted gm, and they offered no free remedy. The vehicle is a 2001 GMC Yukon.
When I brake at slow speeds in my 2001 GMC Yukon xl, the antilock brake system causes a chattering and you have to push very hard on the brake pedal to get this to stop and then the brakes start to work and you can slow down and stop. However, sometimes, I think the car just isn't going to stop.
GMC Yukon 2001 abs brake engagement at low speed (see: NHTSA action number pe05020). No accident yet but it will happen without repairs. Vehicle not used much in summer time.
2001 Yukon xl 1)abs brakes resist between 1 and 10 mph; usually at or around 3 to 5 mph; consistently and only at these low rates of speed 2)usually causes stopping to be at greater distance than driver expects; although it did cause us to roll into an intersection the other day by resisting to stop. 3)my mechanic can find no problem with brakes, roters, etc. . . Seems to be related to sensor.
Antilock brake system is not working properly. Vehicle does not stop when braking.
Abs braking system totally failed and went out. Replaced abs. Was told by two different mechanics that they had replaced a lot of these systems recently. Parking brake went out. Used, maybe 5 times. Have not replaced yet. Was also told that it was common for this system to go out without use.
I read about the investigation about the brakes on gm's SUV's. I have a 2001 GMC Yukon and when you apply the brakes, just before it stops the anti-lock brakes starts pulsing and the vehicle continues forward 3 to 10 feet. The vehicle is at the dealer right now getting the oil changed and I am getting a quote on the brakes. I called gm's warranty division and they said it is not a recall yet. My file # is1-332799234.
The antilock brakes on my 2001 GMC Yukon xl (VIN 3gkfk16t91g274049) activate at low speeds and when cornering on dry pavement. This is annoying and disconcerting. I feel that my stopping distance is increased and pedal effort is also increased. The problem is getting worse.
While traveling over railroad tracks I had to brake suddenly to not hit a car that quickly stopped in font of me. I was going about 25-30 mph. As I braked over the tracks the abs kicked in caused the vehicle to swerve to the right. I hit the guard rail with the right front quarter causing $3500 in damage. Nothing has been done to fix this problem.
I have a Yukon denali 2001. I had an accident. The antilock brakes activate at low speeds. I saw there is an investigation # peo5-020 underway since a recall was in effect in canada. The accident was minor and involved no injurty. It was due to increased stopping distance whern approaching my garage, I had the vehicle reaired and am bringing it in to GMC to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl. The contact states that he has been having problems with the abs computer pump. The vehicle would make a lot of noise. It sounds as if someone was beating on the fender of the truck ,and it was probably making this noise because of the pump continuing to run. The dealership was unable to correct the problem. The contact took the fuse out of the vehicle which shut the pump off. Currently, he does not have the problem. The dealership wanted almost $1400 to correct the problem ,they where going to replace the pump. This problem first began on January of 2005.
GMC Yukon anti lock brake problems. Activation during slow speed stops.
Antilock brakes consistently engaging at low speeds.
Abs and traction assist went out. . I have 56000 miles on my vehicle. Others with the same problem are trying to get a recall out on these types of problems. . Pretty sad that gm cannot make a longer lasting and more efficient vehicle.
I have a 2001 Yukon xl which has had three instances of known design failures in the braking system -- both emergency features, both well known to the manufacturer. The first is a known design defect in the retaining clip of the emergency/parking brake mechansim. As a result the parking brake will wear out within 20-30k miles. The second is an electrical failure in the ebcm (braking control module) where the abs motor shorts into a always on position. The only way to drive the vehicle is to remove the abs fuse and do without the abs feature. Neither known safety issue has a recall assocaited with it.
The ebcm went out on my 2001 GMC Yukon abs system causing the abs pump to run continually even without the key on. Pulling the fuse stopped the pump from running, but I don't have abs, which to me is a safety concern. Gm should recall this module for safety reasons, especially since there is a long list of vehicals with this known problem. I have not replaced this part due to the $1000 price from the dealer, nor do I intend to until gm issues a recall on this defective part. For the money that I gave gm for this vehical, I expect more customer service that this, I have given them enough money for them to just brush my safety (and others' safety as well) aside.
Brakes would lock up for no apparent reason. No warnings were given this continued several times with the dealership continually saying that there was no problem until I dropped the vehicle off at the dealership with the brakes (all four) completely locked up.
While braking on a rough surface at construction zone abs activated, causing nearly complete loss of stopping ability.
Intermittent stalling when making a right turn. Dealer was notified, and informed consumer that they could not duplicate the problem. Consumer states dealer loaned a vehicle data recorder, however problem has not occurred since August 6th, after vehicle stalls it will start back up without a problem. Abs experienced erratic operation. Front passenger seat belt needed replaced.
While braking on a rough road, abs came on without cause and created a total loss of braking ability.
2001 GMC Yukon with anti-lock brake problems. Consumer states that the abs system is activating at slow speeds while trying to stop. Consumer was informed that his vehicle was not covered under the recall. The consumer was informed the recall only covered northern states and the state where he lived was not considered northern.
