Seven problems related to brake antilock wheel speed sensor have been reported for the 2001 GMC Yukon. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2001 GMC Yukon based on all problems reported for the 2001 Yukon.
As vehicle is slowing to a stop, the abs engages lifts the brake pedal, essentially allowing the vehicle to roll forward, and requiring a quick reaction to strongly depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. This is caused by a faulty and corroded abs speed sensor, which has been recalled on these vehicles from 2002, but the recall does not include the 2001 year. Another known issue is faulty abs modules in these vehicles which turn on the dashboard brake and abs warning lights periodically although there is nothing wrong with the brakes or abs.
The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that he had issues with the brakes on his vehicle. The sensor would automatically apply the brakes while accelerating from a stop. In addition, the brakes would automatically lock while driving at low speeds. A mechanic stated that the wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced. There was no recall so the dealer would not replace the component for free. The contact took his vehicle to the dealer and was informed that there was a TSB for the failure. He would have to pay $300 to replace the wheel speed sensor. The contact informed the dealer that he would have his mechanic repair it for $75. The failure mileage was 102,783.
The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl denali. While driving 25 mph, the contact noticed that the abs and brake indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle had not experienced any braking failure while driving. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and the technician stated that the abs was malfunctioning, the speed sensor was failing, and the speed connectors were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was included in a recall pertaining to the speed sensor and advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for repair. Once at the dealer, they refused to make the repairs because her VIN was not included in the recall. The contact called the manufacturer back and they confirmed that the vehicle was not included and stated that no repairs would be made. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 140,000 and current mileage was 146,000.
Corrosion between front hub/bearing assembly and wheel speed sensor in GMC Yukon xl causing unwanted anti-lock brake system (abs) activation when vehicle is traveling at a speed of approx. 7 mph during braking. Can lead to crash. Recall bulletin 05068 covers this issue and my VIN is in the bulletin for recall, but gm will not cover expense for repair. Their electronic database doesn't have my VIN in the system and refuse service despite its inclusion within the recall. I live in ohio and bought the vehicle in ohio. The recall covers ohio vehicles and other high corrosion states in the u. S.
The contact stated the abs activated at low speeds, the abs speed sensor has been replaced twice. There was NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
According to gm, my vehicle is not included in recall #05068 front wheel speed sensor corrosion. However, my vehicle most certainly did have this defect, which came close to causing me 2 rear-end collisions. I had the repairs made at a gm dealer and am seeking reimbursement, but have been told I can't be because my VIN is not on the recall. Please help me notify gm that they need to include my vehicle and send me the recall notice.
After experiencing abs problems and immediately repairing our 2001 GMC Yukon xl regarding the corrosion between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor last year (the hubs and sensors were cleaned and lubed, not replaced), our abs warning light appeared two weeks after the repair. We also began hearing a rubbing sound coming from the front wheels when driving. We notified bob sellers about this, and they reset the abs light. On the way home, the abs warning light came on again. When we took the Yukon in to bob sellers to investigate further, they did a computer scan check with the codes indicating "pump motor ck open" and pump motor k shorted. " they also typed "clear codes road test over 15 miles, abs did not reset codes. " bob sellers now quotes us over $1,000. 00 to repair the motor, something we cannot afford. We are very suspicious how this occurred in tandem with the repair and are asking for NHTSA to please look into this. When we needed our abs to engage during the winter season, they failed. Our Yukon was recently taken in again when the recall regarding the aforementioned problem was issued, and once again, all bob sellers did was clean and lube the sensors, not replace them. Please advise, so my family and I are not at risk with this horrible brake situation as the winter season approaches. Thank you.
