My GMC Yukon 2500 with the 8. 1l stalls while driving. This is unexplainable and unrepeatable. This has occurred probably 6 or 7 times and is a real danger as you loose power steering and brakes. I believe it is the cam positioning sensor. What is my recourse to have fixed by manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon xl 1500. The vehicle has had multiple failures. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and shortly afterwards, the power steering and brakes failed. After the first failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the software in the computer system needed to be updated. After the vehicle was repaired, the failure recurred six months later at the same speed. The vehicle was not towed on this occasion because the contact allowed the vehicle to sit for a couple of minutes. The engine restarted and the contact was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer. They attempted to update the software again; however, the failure recurred less than one week later. The dealer updated the software for the third time, but the failure continues to recur. The dealer has been unable to permanently repair the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 28,000.

Vehicle stalling without reason. Often in heavy traffic. Manufacturer used plastic intake that failed due to heat. $1050. 00 to replace part with same type. Warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles. Part could fail again at my expense.

: the contact stated while traveling 75 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted and the manufacturer was alerted. Updated 11/9/2006 - the vehicle stalled three times in one day and another time about 16 months ago. The consumer was told by a service manager that the problem was with a computer ring in the key switch assembly.
Car stalls while traveling down highway, occurs at least once on each trip. Time of occurrence is between 3 and 30 miles. Several times it has stalled and would not restart while in motion, those time took several minutes to five minutes to get it restarted. Problem started six months ago and has proceeded getting worse. Has been serviced by dealership 5 times since first time. They have replaced several items that have not corrected the problem. We have had several near rear end crashes and scary moments when on the inside lane of an interstate pulling a 16 ft trailer.
Had truck for one week, having a good time, and then the car stalled eleven times on me. Wheel locks up and I am traveling at 60 miles per hour. Even stalled on top of the greater new orleans bridge with a truck full of kids. Very scary
I am terrified to go anywhere far and am not pleased with the fact I had to pay a hundred deductible to have it repaired. I haven't paid the first note and shelling out money for repairs. I hate this. Then the dealerships treat you as if you are crazy. They claim it was the fuel pump! now the service crew at (?) thinks I'm crazy, I'm just scared. I could have stayed in my unreliable intrepid for what I am going through. And remember it's only been a week. Now I just drop the kids to school and park it until it's time to pick them up. Nothing extra! we need to try to form a class action before someone gets killed. One day the car behind us won't stop! thank god nothing tragic so far that we know of. Why does someone have to die before drastic measures are made by these manufactures! I wish every head GMC as well as a few others would take these vehicles for the weekend and drive in fear like we do everyday with their defective product.

GMC Yukon xl 2500, 8. 1l engine. . . Purchased truck (2nd owner) 8/2005 from GMC dealer. Noticed first occasion of stalling app. 10/05 or 11/05. Dealer said "couldn't reproduce complaint" and released the vehicle. Truck drove ok for awhile and began stalling again, this time gm dealer said "fuel pump" ($900+). Truck continued to stall on and off for years, each time no one could find problem. . Recently, summer of 09, it has become worse (more frequent and longer time to re-start) and after two independent diagnostic tests by two separate certified mechanics, it was determined to be the crank positioning sensor. I had already heard about this problem but since my VIN wasn't included in the recall (even though its the same year, model and engine) I am being told that the dealership will not cover!!! I don't know what else to do. . I cant drive this vehicle any longer because it stalls much more often and without any warning meaning loss of power steering, etc and risk of crash. I have called gm as recent as today (12/09) and they are still singing the same tune. . "your vehicle VIN# isn't included in the recall". Next stop media outlets!!.
My 2001 xl 2500 has had periodic problems starting and stalling at different times. The starting problem happens about 2 times as often as the stalling problem. They do not happen at the same time. Usually, if it doesn't fire right up you have to wait about twenty seconds and try again. It usually starts the second or third time. The stalling problem is less detectable. It has happened about 4 times total. Each time I was fortunate to be going under 30 miles per hour and able to compensate for the loss of power. I did not purchase this vehicle as new and do not know if prior owner experienced any problems. It had 30,000 miles on it when I purchased it in Jan. 2002.
The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl 2500. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and lost power steering. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but it took a few minutes. He drove the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the crankshaft position sensor and there had been no further occurrences. After the repair, he discovered the recall for the same defect for the Yukon, but not for the Yukon xl, even though it had the same motor. He called the manufacturer and they stated that the VIN was not included in the recall, although the contact feels that it should be included. The recall number was unknown. The failure mileage was 82,000.
The contact owns a 2002 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. In addition, the vehicle would stall intermittently while driving at various speeds. The engine would completely shut off. Occasionally, the vehicle would immediately restart, but other times, it would take a while. There were no warning indicators prior to the failure. The vehicle stalled the most during deceleration. The vehicle was towed once and the dealer made several attempts to correct the failure, but has been unsuccessful. The current mileage was 54,409 and failure mileage was 14,523. Updated 04/29/08. The consumer stated the crankshaft position sensor was replaced. The consumer stated there have been no further problems. Updated.

Wife was driving vehicle when started to smell something burning. Parked & left the vehicle & it caught fire near the fuel tank area. Prior to it catching on fire, it was stalling out several times a day. Towed to mechanic & cause of fire or stalling was not located. Gm didn't accept responsibility for the problem.
