GMC Yukon owners have reported 35 problems related to front driver side air bag inflator (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Yukon based on all problems reported for the Yukon.
We received a safety recall notice saying the propellant in this inflator may degrade after long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature cycling, which could cause the inflator to explode during a deployment. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, whcih may result in serious injury or death to passengers. When we called the GMC dealer to get this fixed, they said they don't have the parts. This is unacceptable. This is our family vehicle for my husband, myself and our 6 children that we ride in together each day. I'm also pregnant and expecting a baby in August - we should not be forced to drive around in an unsafe vehicle, GMC should be offering an alternative vehicle for use until they have parts available or some option to keep our family safe.

We are the original owners of the vehicle and wish to request that the air bag noted be scheduled for replacement. Takata recall has been outstanding since 2016. The risk specifically states: "the propellant in some types of takata airbag inflators can degrade over time, especially after long term exposure in hot and humid regions. If the propellant degrades to a certain level, the inflators may rupture during deployment, causing serious or fatal injuries. " I live in a hot and humid area, and I have a family. I also have a reasonable expectation of safety and reliance upon this vehicle, and considering the cost of vehicles these days, seems like companies would show a bit more love and consideration for their customers. I panic every time I get in my vehicle, just out of worry of what might happen in the event of a collision.
Takata inflators our local dealer in vacaville CA said gm still has not sent the parts for the airbag fix for my vehicle. When can they expect delivery from gm. We have not had any problems yet and want it fixed before we do.

On 06/07/2019 I purchased my 2008 GMC Yukon slt in a private sale with 43k miles on it hardly driven, a well taken care of SUV no cracks in the dash now a month and 1000 miles later I am driving and notice it has a crack in the driver's side of the dash 4" long near the seam in front of the instrument cluster, and a crack in the passenger's side of the dash 2" long at the corner of the airbag. I immediately saw this as a safety issue. The takata air bag inflators are under recall with a status of remedy not yet available according to the carfax I ran and at safercar. Gov making the dash a ticking time bomb with shrapnel as a bonus to possibly injure or kill myself or my wife in the event the air bags deploy the dealership quoted a ridiculous repair price and admitted that a cracked dashes are an issue with the Yukon. A dash cover is nothing but a band aid on a broken leg. I want gm to issue a recall.
Takata inflator recall. Crack in dashboard near passenger side airbag. Service airbag light comes on when vehicle is started. No recall on this vehicle based only on the fact of where it was purchased. Car is in florida approx. 4 months in winter. Even in new york during the rest of the year the sun shining thru the window creates severe heating of dashboard . Vehicle is not garaged. My main concern is whether this car should be driven.
Takata recall: the dashboard on our vehicle is cracked at the air bag on the passenger side and at the steering wheel on the driver side. There is also a takata recall which GMC does not have a remedy. These 2 items have potential to be disastrous when combined together. The inflator exploding and the dash board breaking into pieces and sent throughout the cabin. We are asking for GMC to replace the inflator and replace the dashboard.

Truck started sputtering while driving. I had it towed home and then towed to the dealer and they stated the lifters in the engine were broke and there was damage to the can shaft. Told me this is normal and happens to vehicles like mine regularly. I have only owned the truck three years and have maintained it well with low mileage. They told me it would be $6700 to fix. When I complained, the rep told me $5500. I asked for a supervisor who then stated that GMC would offset the cost and it was now $3311. It would seem that if this is a regular occurrence in vehicles like mine, GMC would do something to ensure it doesn't happen. In addition there is still no remedy available for the tamara inflator.
Takata inflators : I received a letter sating that my vehicle airbag is under recall and I should contact my local dealership to have them replace them free of charge. I have called them twice since I got the notice and they have told me that I need to contact GMC to find out who the solution to the problem is because as of right now they cannot offer me anything to fix the issue.
Takata inflators. Received notice of recall. Called dealer. Dealer confirmed that a recall has been issued but gm has not identified a remedy. It has been approximately 15 months since the recall. 0.
Takata inflators recall will not be satisfied by boercherding GMC. They will not be receiving parts to fix problem.
Dashboard warning "service airbag" came on several weeks ago. Got a notice from tk holdfings; ref, takata airbag inflators. Checked local dealer for recall info. And found no help. Was told a "fix" was not available. So, why the notification if I cant get my truck repaired under a recall? in the meantime, I've got a warning light on my dash, reminding me that something is wrong with the airbag system. I refuse to pay to have it investigated and repaired, when it has already been recognized as being faulty. What's going on here? does my truck get repaired or not?.
Takata airbag inflators received a card but when take to dealer they keep saying waiting on parts been waiting before I got a card when receive alert that had an issue with air bag because I'm registered with recall NHTSA for update. Still waiting. Been there on several occasion.
Takata inflators has been recalled on my vehicle and I can not find a replacement.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2011 GMC Yukon. The contact was informed by michael stead Cadillac (2390 n, main st. , walnut creek, CA) that the inflators were not faulty and no replacement inflators would be installed. The manufacturer was notified and confirmed the dealer's information. The contact received a recall notice for the air bags in may of 2017. The NHTSA campaign information was not available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
2008 Yukon 5 cracks across the entire dashboard within 30 days, 3 cracks have formed in 72 hours. One crack appeared while I was at work, in the span of 3 hours. This truck has been regularly maintained and kept in a garage for majority of its life. The cracks are forming so fast that pieces will begin shattering and falling inside. Two cracks have formed next to the passenger side airbag, that has takata inflators- exciting times! my dealership has informed me that GMC will not compensate or assist in remedying this issue- but the dealer will be happy to replace the dash for $1300. 00.
Takata recall gm sent out the recall and now my SUV is throwing a error code of service airbag with the airbag light on. They don't want to take responsibility for this code. They want us to spend our money to find out that it's their recall issue. In the recall it states "takata airbag inflators can degrade over time, especially after long term exposure in hot and humid regions. If the propellant degrades to a certain level, the inflators may rupture during deployment, causing serious or fatal injuries. " this is a huge concern to my family of 5. Gm needs to take complete responsibility for their recall and get it fixed! we asked the gm representative if we get into an accident and the airbag fails to work properly then will gm be responsible? he beat around the bush about it. He then said well try not to get into an accident right now. That is admitting to me that it's unsafe. He wouldn't answer any of our questions. He couldn't tell us when our vehicle could be fixed. He just kept telling us that we needed to spend our money and take it to our dealer to have it checked. We know what the problem is. It sounds to me like they're just trying to take our money.
Takata recall . . . . My Yukon denali dash has very bad cracks from the passenger airbag to the speedometer area. These cracks run completely through the dash material, and are "banging" whenever the vehicle goes over a bump. I am very concerned that this bumping and rattling around could set off the passenger air bag, which would send shrapnel throughout the cabin. Since the passenger air bag has the takata inflator, it is more concerning. I have called the dealer several times about this, but they continue to say they can not do anything. Since the vehicle has been in miami, florida since it was purchased, with very high humidity, I would think this would be a priority fix!!.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 GMC Yukon xl. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags) for the front passenger inflator; however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and stated that they were currently conducting tests regarding the vehicle. It was determined that the contact's vehicle was not a safety issue, and that the contact would receive a secondary letter around August of 2017. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I have received paperwork July 2016 stating that my inflators are defective according to takata. The wording states their defective operation due to degradation could result in "rupture during deployment, causing serious or fatal injuries. " on the same notice, gm states they will notify me when parts are available. They also state my vehicle is "safe to drive". First of all, this is ridiculous that gm is allowed to cover themselves by sending out such a contradictory letter. I have followed up in July 2016, October 2016, and now Aug. 2017. I am continually told there is no problem, but there are also no parts available yet for a repair. . . . . . . . . Now, in an attempt to sell the vehicle, potential customers are looking up the VIN, seeing this related information and telling me they can't buy it from me without me repairing it, or they can't pay near my asking price. So. . . . . I have a vehicle my wife doesn't like to drive, I can't fix it because the dealer says there are no parts and they aren't required to do anything yet because NHTSA is giving them more time, and I can't easily sell the vehicle because it comes up on this listing in a VIN search regardless of whether it is safe to drive or not. Absolute garbage treatment of me by both parties.
Takata recall, front passenger airbag inflators are defective. The inflator can degrade over time , especially after long term exposure in hot and humid regions. Plus my dash is cracking. The dash has cracked so much that the air bag ares is pushed up.
Takata recall, I received a notice in January of 2016 that the inflators in my 2007 Yukon needed to be replaced and that I should contact the local dealer to setup an appointment to have this done. I contacted the dealership in January of 216, December of 2017, June of 2017 and each time was told parts were not available and I would be contacted once they were available. I subsequently received notification that the airbag company was going into bankruptcy. I again contacted the dealer in January of 2018 who advised me that they had no information. This has been going on now for nearly two years with no resolution.
After receiving a takata airbag recall notice, I contacted jack wilson GMC twice requesting that all takata inflators be removed from my vehicle and they refused. GMC said they would contact me when they had replacement parts, but have not. I told them I did not care if no parts were available or if I had working airbags, but I wanted the dangerous inflators out! they said no.
Takata recall gm recall 49151 to replace the passenger side air bag inflator. This has yet to be resolved, no further notice has been made of any actions, and research of the matter indicates that incomplete remedy not yet available. After all this time, and that notice was made July 2016, the condition had been investigated by the NHTSA and found no solution. That is unacceptable! my wife, my kids, my friends travel in that seat. What happens to them if this unit ignites with or without a collision type situation, and they get severely burnt, or maimed by this device which is apparently degrading each year they delay. What alternatives do I have now, just wait for it to explode? I really think this has gone far to long already, and needs immediate action before someone gets hurt or killed. Thank you.
The NHTSA recall #16v381 was issued may 27, 2016 creating a gm recall #2049151. Gm's status is "incomplete. Remedy not yet available". Its now 4 1/2 years later. To ensure the safety of the public, a decision must be made as to whether or not there is a safety issue/risk relating to the takata airbag inflators.
Takata inflators it's in our 2018 almost 2019 and nothing has been done yet. When is this going to be fixed? do people have to die before anything is done?.
Recall since 2016 no remedy as of now just checked with dealer to verify received notice of takata airbag inflators are defective and the manufacturer is going bankrupt don't know what to do have until December 7, 2017 to file a claim don't know how to do that.
Takata recall takata airbag inflator recall since may 2016 and no remedy has been offered. It's dangerous to drive with my wife and children since this is our primary vehicle. Gm should provide us with a rental vehicle or replacement vehicle until the solution is available to fix.
Takata recall - have received notice after notice of recall around takata inflators and dealer specifies they are not authorized to fix? just received legal notice that takata has filed for chapter 11 and dealers will still not fix??.
Takata inflators. Dash has cracked at the passenger air bag and above the instrument cluster.
Iive had this recall for my 2007 GMC Yukon for the airbag. They stated there is new remedy right now. Its been at least 5 years. Its for the takata air bag inflators. Can you help me out. I have a very hard time why they dont have a fix yet. They are just screwing around thrying to save money.
1. Cracked dashboard - cracked dashboard - dashboard is deteriorating. Numerous cracks. Vehicle is parked in the shade 90% of the time and after 30,000 miles on it. It has never been in any accident. There is a dashboard crack next to the airbag on the dashboard. My concern is with the takata inflators and potential shrapnel produced from the rotting dashboard becoming airborne during an accident. There is a website that shows the majority of these gm dashboards are defective and falling apart beyond cosmetic appearance. What kind of safety testing has been done in relation to cracked dashboards causing injuries? 2. Takata recall - there should be a solution to the takata inflator issue and a recall on gm cracked plastic dashboards. It is past August of 2017 and I have heard nothing regarding the airbag issue solution. (was told by the dealer - oursiman of alexandria, va ) that no soultion is availe for the airbag. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. 3. Transmission cooler lines - lines have been leaking for years. Specifically called out in the warranty coverage as not covered???it's a known issue with all Yukon and other vechicles.
Takata inflators & dashboard defects 2007 GMC Yukon VIN: 1gkfc13097r208486 the manufacturer has still not developed a resolution for the defective airbags. I was injured in a vehicle accident in this vehicle when the airbags failed to deploy, additionally the dashboard on this year & model Yukon has completely cracked, falling apart, creating further safety hazards & sharp debris objects that will cause injury if the airbags do deploy.
Airbag failed function due to lack of inflator performance during my husbands head-on crash and he suffered collar bone and rib fractures, massive head trauma resulting in a crainiotomy, brain damage and death one month later. The vehicle was travelling at 45mph on a paved two lane street.
