Side/window Air Bag Problems of GMC Yukon - part 1

Was driving down the road approached a corner hit a icy spot then dry spot spun me around and went into the ditch. Side air bags deployed. Did not hit any object or roll the vehicle. Also did not know anything about current recall on air bags for my vehicle.

I recently purchased a 2011 GMC Yukon from my parents. They are the original owners. This vehicle was kept under thier carport and not in direct sunlight. The dashboard has mulitple cracks. Most concerning is the cracks near the passenger side airbag. What if I were in an accident, the dashboard could become shrapnel impaling myself or my passenger. Also the defective dashboard could splinter and puncture the airbag making them ineffective. After researching this issue, there are numerous complaints and even lawsuits. I am appalled to know you and GMC are aware of the risks of the cracked dashboard causing great bodily harm or death. You and GMC have done nothing to remedy the problem. I have a 2002 Honda accord that sits in the sun and the dashboard is in perfect condition.

The dash board is cracked from the driver side all the way to the passenger side airbag. Upon doing research, this is a common occurrence with these models. I've contacted gm customer care and advised them of the issue as well as my concern that the cracked dash board may puncture the airbag and become inoperable during an accident.

The dashboard has spontaneously cracked in two locations after sitting in our garage. A 6" crack has no formed over the curved instrument cluster display on driver side and a 1" crack has occurred near the air bag cover corner on passenger side. These cracks are similar in location and size to others that have been reported on GMC Yukons. Started noticing the crack in August of 2020. I have received a recall on passenger side airbag.

As I was walking to my truck, I hit the button (as I have always done) to unlock the door, the passenger side airbag exploded and crashed the windshield.

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while stopped to make a turn the vehicle was rear ended. There no injuries that required transport by an ambulance. A police report was filed. The vehicle's bumper needed to get fixed but now the side airbags on both the driver's and passenger's sides deployed without warning. . The insurance company will call the contact back and directed her to contact the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 170,000. Tf.

A crack appeared on the front dash next to the passenger side airbag. The vehicle was stationary and cracked overnight. I'm concerned about the airbag working properly.

Dash is cracked and compromised in 2 places:. Middle clip is broken behind center speaker, and dash is cracked at the front left side of the passenger side airbag. Concerned about flying shards of broken dash plastic in the event the airbags deployed.

Takata recall dash board has cracked despite being well cared for. GMC wants $1500 to replace! a cracked dashboard, particularly one that is damaged around the passenger-side airbag, can yield flying projectiles in the event that an accident triggers the airbag to deploy.

04/27/18 fri morning driving home I hit a median with driver front tire, inwhich all my airbags deployed imediatly including side airbags and caused such a sudden panic distraction that I swerved and flipped my vehicle. I was pulled from the wreck luckily and taken by ambulance to the hospitol. My truck was completely totalled. My vehicle was in motion the entire time until it stopped rolling leaving the final position upside down. There was no reason these air bags should have deployed and they caused me to nearly lose my life. Normally jus a tire would blow in such a hit from tire. The first ones to deploy were all four window airbags then soon as I flipped the others went off and I was knocked unconscious. I was not aware there was a recall inplace and just recently bought this truck in Jan. 2018.

The dashboard is cracking right into the passenger side airbag. It this deployed it would send shards of plastic flying into the cabin of the vehicle. I have small children that ride in this vehicle daily.

Received a notice in the mail about a takata recall on driver side airbags.

The dash on my 2007 Yukon slt has a crack that has progressively gotten worse right above my driver side airbag.

A crack formed from the passenger side airbag compartment extending to the center dash vent without cause or incident. The vehicle was stationary parked in my garage at the time the crack occurred. The dash now rattles and squeaks and sags in the middle of the dash.

All the sudden the dashboard started cracking in two places. One is above the steering wheel and the other is by the passenger side airbag on the dash also. It was just in my garage. Not cracked one day and started cracking the next. There was no damage done to the car it just occurred by itself.

This is not about what happened it's what could happen. I have a 2014 Yukon with less than 60,000 miles that has a crack near the passenger side airbag. I'm very concerned with the airbags potentially being torn if deployed, or plastic being projected if the airbag ever has to be deployed. I feel this is a safety issue. I have reached out to GMC only to be told it's cosmetic and won't be covered, regardless of what I think or the concerns I have the case is closed. There is a facebook group with over 6,500 followers that have similar concerns with all concerns falling upon deaf ears. I'm hoping a recall can be put into place to potentially save lives. I'm praying people don't have to die for this to be considered a valid issue. I don't know what caused the issue, poor manufacturing, air bag not properly installed, or what. I would love for some research to be done as well.

We have only personally owned our 2013 GMC Yukon denali since October 2016 and looked at it as a luxury vehicle which is far from the truth. This vehicle always has a uv protection visor up when not garaged and there is a huge crack above the passenger side airbag which is very concerning. This is not safe and with flimsy interior like this, GMC has no business charging the prices that they do for their cars. This problem is all over the internet and we even bought into an extended bumper to bumper warranty that the dealership is saying will not cover it. This is a huge safety concern for me and its unfortunate that gm's interior is cheaply made and they're not willing to honor their vehicles when they fall apart. I traded in a Dodge ram that had immaculate interior that never cracked and now I'm stuck with a vehicle that is falling apart.

Recall for passenger side airbag issued may 27, 2016. Safety risk is higher after long term exposure to hot and humid regions. I live in st petersburg, FL. How much longer to I have to risk the lives of my passengers? when will gm fix this?.

The part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The contact was unable to determine when the vehicle would be repaired. The manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the contact's vehicle would receive the recall repair. The contact heard an abnormal noise progressing near the dashboard associated with the front passenger side air bag. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

I feel that the airbag has been compromised because of this and worry about pieces of the broken dashboard flying into mine or my children's faces if the airbag ever has to inflate.

Dash has cracked in two spots. One of the cracks is along the passenger side airbag. SUV is parked in a garage most of the time. 42,000 miles.

The dashboard is cracked on the passenger side possibly damaging the passenger side airbag. The vehicle was stationary. Came out one morning and it was cracked. Had a friend who had a brand new denali and it happened to his in less than 1 year from purchase.

When I received the notice I inquired with my dealer as to the possible completion date, but he laughed and informed me he had no idea of what I was even talking about. I have a 2007 GMC Yukon, on the recall list. I¿m afraid to drive the truck since being notified, and will most certainly not ride anyone in the passenger seat. So, I have a vehicle in my garage that has, for the most part, not been used since I received the notice on August 08, 2016. The crack in my dash is now from the airbag to the vent. It has cracked completely through. I am concerned it will cause my passenger side airbag to deploy.

I was issued a recall notice for a safety defect on takata passenger side airbag on 5/27/16. I've contacted gm on multiple occasions and keep getting the answer of parts/resolution not available yet. I'm driving a vehicle with a safety defect for a year and a half now gm unwilling to properly repair.

While driving, I started hearing strange rattling noises from the dashboard. We I inspected the dash board, I noticed it was cracked by the upper left corner of the passenger side airbag on both sides. I'm concerned for my family's safety. Should the airbag deploy, the cracked dashboard will most likely explode, possibly causing more injury than the airbag was designed to avoid. This appears to be a common complaint from gm customers. While I recently paid to have my dash replaced, I'm hoping gm will issue a recall to address this issue and I will be reimbursed for repairing this defect.

Our 2013 denali which we purchased new in 2014 has had a cracked dashboard above the passenger side airbag for more than a year (~2 years old). The integrity of the dash and airbag are problematic. There is no tangible support under the dash -- dealership says it's plastic!!! the vehicle was not in motion, just happened one day when it was parked in the driveway. Yesterday the outside passenger door handle broke off --- again, plastic parts instead of metal. If there was an accident, that passenger might not have an airbag properly deployed and nobody could open that door from the outside to rescue them!.
