While I was driving, I was hearing strange cracking. Noises from the dashboard for 2 days. Then I looked at the top of the dashboard, and it was cracked by the upper left corner of the passenger side airbag and behind the steering wheel. Should the airbag be deployed, the cracked dashboard will explode, possibly causing more injury than the airbag was designed to avoid. Hopefully, GMC will address this in a recall.

My dashboard is cracking for no reason. There is a crack where the passenger side airbag is installed. I'm concerned that in the event of an accident, items like the speaker in the dash board will become projectiles. I am also concerned that if the airbag deploys then potentially shards of broken plastic will also be flying through the cabin.
I have brought my vehicle into the shop a few times, no fix available, I have contacted gm customer service they stated they have no idea when this can be fixed, my dashboard has cracked around the driver side airbag section - they say not to worry.
The dash panels are cracking around the passenger side airbag and directly in front of the driver. The vehicle is 5 years old and has 86,000 miles and the cracks developed in the last month. Nothing has hit the dash to break it, it just cracked and the cracks are spreading. I am concerned about flying plastic shrapnel of the airbag were to deploy.

There is a crack in the dash next to the right side air bag. I am concerned it could continue growing and cause the air bag to deploy.
Dash has started cracking around passenger side air bag. If in an accident and the air bag is deployed I fear that myself and my passengers may be affected or harmed by the debris due to the compromised structure or the dash board. Currently in contact with GMC via twitter to seek resolution. Vehicle is stored in a covered parking garage not effected by sunlight.

Cracked dash by the passage side airbag and it's a safety hazard. It poses a threat of flying debris in the event that the airbag is deployed. My vehicle has always been kept in a garage and haven't been in the direct sunlight anymore the 5-6 hours a day no more than 4 days a week. I noticed the crack around November 2015 and I spoke with a GMC service rep and they told me that I have to replace the dash because it's a common issue in the SUV's. He informed me that I will have to pay $1200 to get it replaced and that he could not investigate my complaint about an electric spark sound in my dash under the speaker because if he did that I might as well replace the dash because the labor charge would be the same. I paid too much money for this vehicle in an attempt to provide safety for my family as we travel up and down the highway for it to be a safety hazard if the airbag is deployed or my speaker spark into a fire. Too much money!.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon denali. The contact noticed that the dashboard was cracking through the passenger side air bag. Due to the failure, the contact was concerned that the air bags might deploy. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 165,000.

Dash is cracked above the passenger side air bag as well as driver side above dash cluster, potentially causing high velocity projectiles in the event of airbag deployment. Vehicle was stationary when cracks occurred.
Our 2010 GMC Yukon recently developed a crack in the dashboard near the passenger side airbag. We are concerned for the safety of those passengers riding in the front passenger seat. If the airbags were to deploy, hard plastic dash material could injury passengers. This is a safety hazard that gm does not seem to want to address. We purchased this vehicle new, which has been garaged its entire service life.
I have a crack in my dash connecting to the passeger side airbag. This is a huge safety concern. Gm is not willing to fix this problem or issue a recall when it is clearly a manufactures defect. They apparently dont care about the safety of their customers. They have had many complaints and still ignore this problem. Hopefully no one will have to be hurt for gm to fix this problem. But if its my car that someone gets hurt in, they will have a lawsuit on their hands!!.
Vehicle dashboard cracking around passenger side airbag. Concerned over the possibility of the fracture splintering if the airbag were to deploy and puncturing the airbag and/or sending pieces of hard plastic into the face of passenger and/or other occupants.
The plastic dash board has cracked. It started out small coming from the passenger side airbag and stretching to the edge of that dash panel. Now a second part of the dash has cracked by the driver side over the instrument gauge cluster. The portion of the dash that's cracked by the passenger airbag is my biggest concern as it could break off and cause sharp pieces to hit the passenger in the face of the airbag was deployed. My GMC dealer stated my extended warranty doesn't cover this "cosmetic" issue and therefore I will have to come out of pocket for a portion of the cost. This is unacceptable. I'm the original owner and he vehicle is garaged. There could be no long term damage to the dash other than what it's intended to do which is to be under the windshield. GMC - own this issue and correct the problem please. I'm not likely to be a repeat customer of you can't produce a superior and reliable product -or- be responsible and correct an issue that is clearly a manufacturers defect.
Our 2011 GMC Yukon denali xl has developed large cracks in the dashboard. One is located behind the instrument panel and at the corner of the airbag. We have concerns if the passenger side airbag ever deploys, sharp pieces of the broken dash may break loose and injure passengers in our vehicle.
Our Yukon has a crack on the corner of the passenger side airbag, and also a very large crack on the instrument panel hump of the dash. This crack continues to lengthen daily. We have real fears of the plastic breaking apart into sharp shards in the case of an accident. I worry about my teenagers riding in the front seat as I don't want them injured. Additionally we have concerns about the crack near the airbag breaking the dash into pieces if the airbag inflates. We received the takata airbag recall over a year ago, and are still waiting for replacement. We are members of a facebook group with 6,200+ members, all with cracks in gm vehicles in the exact location. Gm denies that this is a defective part and tries to blame the issue on car being in the hot sun, use of armor all, etc. . . But it seems to me if everyone has the exact same issue, it's a manufacturing defect. We also own a 2008 GMC Yukon denali xl with an identical crack at the airbag corner.
At some point near 65000 miles, a very large crack appeared over the instrument panel, as well as a small crack extending into the passenger side airbag area. I worry about my children's safety if we were in an accident and plastic pieces go flying.

The top of the dashboard is cracked around the passenger side airbag. I am concerned about the possibility of loose dashboard pieces becoming projectiles upon airbag deployment.
A large crack appeared on the dash hump behind the steering wheel and grew larger leaving a hole exposing the steering column electrical wires. Another crack developed on the dash beside the upper left corner of the passenger side airbag. I am concerned with both electronics being exposed and jagged edges beside the airbag deployment area, the airbags may fail in a crash. I am also concerned that steering could eventually become impacted. I contacted gm customer service and they refused to provide assistance even though they know it is a common, well documented problem in their vehicles. Someone needs to hold them accountable for defects that can lead to safety issues. No impacts or collisions have led to this issue. It just simply appeared. It was stationary when discovered one morning. Although I am not certain the exact date, the problem was first noticed in January 2015.
My family's 2008 GMC Yukon has a cracking dashboard cover. This problem started earlier around 100,000 miles but now there is one large crack and one smaller crack above the portion of the dashboard where the instrument cluster is located. I am concerned that eventually this whole portion of the dashboard cover may crack and fall into the dashboard which could possibly affect electrical components located within the dashboard. Also I have noticed some signs of a crack forming next to the passenger side airbag cover. At any point while driving the vehicle I can hear the dashboard cracking and popping loudly.
Dashboard is cracked in upper left corner of the passenger side airbag. The cracked part is very sharp and will likely year the airbag if it deploys durning a crash, which is a huge safety concern. Also, it seems very brittle and the force of the airbag deployment could send flying shrapnel into passengers faces.
My dashboard is severely cracked around the passenger side airbag and cluster, which a may cause malfunctioning of the air-bag. I have done numerous searches on the internet and I am seeing this same complaint over and over. I am very curious with it happening so much why this has not been recalled and GMC taken care of this problem. I am extremely worried about safety and the high cost of repairing this myself, but I know it needs to be taken care of. I've owned GMC vehicles forever and have been very happy, up until this point. I think the company needs to address this problem, and quickly.
Cracked dashboard in 2 places. Including a crack into the passenger side airbag. I'm very concerned due to having two 2 year olds in my car. The cracks began approximately 2 years ago. Our Yukon has regular maintenence and garage kept. I am very concerned this will cause my airbags to potentially engage!.
Our 2008 GMC Yukon denali xl has developed a crack in the dashboard right at the corner of the airbag. We have concerns if the passenger side airbag ever deploys, sharp pieces of the broken dash may break loose and injure passengers in our vehicle.
Significant cracks in hard plastic dashboard have appeared including around the passenger side airbag. Some cracks have created shards of hard plastic that fall into the dash area & can not be recovered. I am concerned that the shards have the potential to harm the airbag and prevent the normal operation of the airbag in the event of a crash. Seems gm should be well aware of this issue & should replace these dashes that are breaking down due to faulty manufacturing materials.
The dash is cracked in numerous places. Including the area directly around the passenger side airbag. If the airbag was to deploy, the pieces of the dash would become shrapnel, and inpale anybody in its path! the cracking is caused by inadequate bracing under the dash! this is a known defect by GMC for at least 8 model years.
The dash board has cracked in two places, one near the stearing column and one on the perimeter of the passenger side airbag. I'm concerned it will effect the integrity of the airbag. The vehicle was mostly stored in a garage and was not exposed to sunlight for a large amount of time.
Dash cracked on the top right corner of the passenger side air bag. Possible safety issue of airbag not being held in properly now, or sharp corner of cracked dash cutting passenger in the event of a possible airbag deployment.
The upper dashboard keeps developing cracks in the plastic around the passenger side airbag. I see this as a safety issue. If the airbags were to deploy, I don't know how much additional damage to the passenger due to broken pieces of plastic dashboard flying at the passenger.
Crack in dash beside passenger side air bag. Crack seemed to appear overnight with no trauma to the dash at all. Vehicle has been garage kept. I am very concerned that in the event that the airbag deploys, shrapnel from the cracked dash will be thrown into my passengers' faces causing serious injury.
The front dash has cracked around the passenger side airbag, as well as around the speaker and over the steering column. The cracks initially started as small cracks a few years ago, but have drastically worsened over this past year and I now believe it is a safety hazard, especially if the passenger side airbag were to deploy. It's so bad that if it gets any worse the whole section between the speaker and passenger side airbag may break off.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, both side air bags deployed. The dealer was notified and stated that they would dispatch someone to investigat the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 97,000. Sm.
While following another vehicle on an on ramp from one hwy to another, the vehicle in front of me drove directly over something laying in the road (stradeling the debris with it's tires). This caught me off guard and I made a quick swerve/evasive action to miss running over whatever it was laying in the road. All of my side airbags deployed. Needless to say, it scared the heck out of me and I didn't even realise what happened for another 1/4 mile or so. I called gm to complain and they had a so-called independent inspector come out and look at my vehicle (at the time it was at a dealership). I received a report back saying the computer sensed a potential rollover. Never was there a potential rollover. I just swerved to miss something in the road. There was no damage otherwise. Gm left it at that. No other investigation was done. After two years, I have yet to have repairs made, because it still irks me to pay for something that should have never happened.
My husband was driving our 2000 Yukon a week and a half ago, and while completely stopped at a stop sign not two miles from our home, the passenger side curtain airbag deployed. No one was in the passenger seat at the time, and thankfully no one was injured, however I am incredibly worried about the integrity of the vehicles safety. I have two children in car seats, and my infant son sits directly behind the passenger seat in a rear facing car seat. Not only would the incredibly loud “gunshot sound have possibly damaged his ears, but the smoky aftermath the car was filled with would have been terrible for both children’s lungs. Airbags are an incredibly important safety feature that is unparalleled when they operate correctly. Obviously there is faulty wiring or sensors in this model SUV for the side seat airbag to go off not only when there was no one sitting in the passenger seat, but when the car was at a complete stop. My concern is with the rest of the vehicles airbag sensors, because I am not confident that they are not going to spontaneously go off while I am driving. We contacted our local dealership with the problem immediately after the airbag deployed, however it was a Sunday and we were told no one was available to help us. A vehicle inspection was scheduled for Tuesday, the 21st, and my husband received a call from the inspector later that night to answer questions about the incident. We were told by the inspector that we would be receiving a call from GMC with the details and outcome of the inspection. It is now Thursday the 23rd, and even after two phone calls I still have not heard back from anyone. I have now been without a vehicle for twelve days, and still cannot drive it because I am not comfortable transporting my children. I feel very strongly that GMC is responsible for remedying the problem and assuring me that this will not happen again under any premature circumstances.
