Abs Brake Fail Problems of Honda Accord

05 Honda/accord sdn/accord 4dr ex-l while my wife was driving on highway she lost complete control of car due to abs brake failure. I brought car to Honda dealer to have car inspected. Dealer solution defective abs module needed to be replaced at my cost due to warranty expiration. My reply was due to safety hazard and part being defective. Parts and labor should covered 100%.

This incident involved failure of the braking system on my 2008 Honda Accord with no annunciation or warning that there was any problem with the braking system. Fortunately, I was traveling at slow speeds with very little traffic. I had driven about a mile and a half and had multiple stops for traffic lights and/or stop signs with no indication that there was any problem with the braking system. I had just accelerated after leaving a traffic light and was traveling 25 ? 30 mph. I attempted to slow to make a right turn into a gas station parking lot. At the point of braking, I observed absolutely no slowing in response to applying brake pressure. There was little resistance on the brake pedal and I continued to depress the pedal. Still with no slowing in response to braking, I used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. After safely stopping, I attempted to better characterize the braking problem. I was able to repeatedly reproduce the failure, however did confirm that if the brake had been fully depressed and then a very quick pump to the brake, excessive and dramatic pressure was temporarily available. I phoned my husband for assistance and he was able to carefully drive the vehicle, using the emergency brake only to lynwood Honda for investigation and servicing. We have been advised by lynwood Honda that the abs modulator had failed, however, there were not faults recorded in the vehicle?s computer which is why no dashboard indication occurred. They also indicated that this was the second such case reported on the 2008 Accord. I personally attempted to call Honda of America customer service and was not satisfied with the explanation and / or action they were able to advice me they were taking as a result of this incident. Note that the vehicle has been maintained According to Honda's recommended schedule and has been done exclusively by the lynwood Honda service department.

While driving, the vehicle ran great until 57000 miles, when the abs system failed. When driving 55 mph, came to a railroad crossing and applied when the brakes failed. Brakes pressure was felt but brakes did not grab and extended stopping distance was needed, and driver to engage the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. This occured on dry pavement on flat surface. Brakes were applied under normal braking conditions. The abs system is 4 wheel antilcock. There was no warning prior to failure. No problems with brakes before. When brakes were applied, the brake pedal did not feel any different than normal. Has had an estimate from a dealership, dealership reports that entire system must be replaced and all lines flushed at a cost of 2,300. Vehicle is regularly serviced with records available.

While braking abs pump failed. This caused extended stopping distance. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I own a 1996 Accord exl. One morning recently my car started humming when I turned it on and when the humming stopped my abs light came on. The dealer diagnosed it as abs pump running excessively and leaking modulator. The cost of the repair totalled $1,920. 00. The dealer told me to contact Honda as they thought that the abs should not fail this early. When I contacted american Honda I was told that it was outside their assistance as I had over 36,000 miles on my car. In addition, this was a normal wear and tear part like brake pads. I was also told by the dealer that the faulty abs part which primarily affects 94, 95 and 96 models has been modified. I also own a 1994 Honda Accord ex and a 1995 civic ex. Now I'm worried about those abs parts failing too.

The abs system failed prematurely at 47000 miles, prior service of the abs system was completed at the dealership.

Abs unit failure as stated in the service bulletin, owner would like abs to be repaired without costs due to defect in design.
