5 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

I have had my 2001 Honda Accord for about 7 years and only recently had problems with it. First, my alarm system has been malfunctioning. The alarm will go off every so often for no reason, especially at night disturbing the neighborhood. I have to go run to the window to try to turn off the alarm. I took it to the dealer to have a $100 diagnostic test only to tell me that my alarm system was the problem (something I already knew), and it would cost another $300 to fix. Second, the srs light came on and will not come off. I took my car to the dealer and it would cost $100 for a diagnostic test, which will probably tell me what I already know, and probably cost another couple hundred to fix. I have researched this problem and have found many complaints regarding this issue. This problem needs to be addressed, especially for the safety of the consumers. There should be a recall for this car.

I got out the driveway and made a right turn. The ignition key jump out of the ignition key hole and broke the key handle ( plastic with remote doors/trunk opening. The car stalled and stop. I put the key ( the metal part) in but the engine did not start. I tried super glue the metal and plastic back together and turn the ignition key. The engine was on normal. I took the key out, and tried to turn it with the metal part again. The car did not start. I did not realize the serious of the problem until I read the worcester telegram gazette ( Saturday 8/13/05) and found the Honda Acura rsx has the same problem to other and it locked him three times. 12 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 08/01/2002

This complaint is similar to investigation number pe 03-014. My wife's 1998 Honda Accord (4 cylinder with automatic transmission) rolled away from the spot where she had parked it. Apparently she had left the vehicle in drive, but was able to remove the key from the ignition. When she returned from her errand, the car was no longer in the parking spot where she had left it. The car had rolled about 75 feet away, somehow managing to miss several other cars in the parking lot. Thankfully, she and our baby weren't halfway out the car door when the car rolled away. I verified that the key can be removed with the shifter in drive. I took the car to the Honda dealer here in colorado springs, and they indicated that there may be a mechanical problem in the ignition switch, but that it isn't covered by a warranty or recall. They also said it would be pretty expensive to fix since the electrical part of the ignition switch would need to be replaced as well as the mechanical part and the electrical part of the switch has an anti-theft feature that reads a computer chip in the key and that the system would have to be reprogrammed (including the remote controls for the doors. . . ). The car had about 60,000 miles on it when we first noticed the problem. We don't recall the exact date of when it happened, but it was during the summer of 2002 when we first noticed the problem. Thank you for your attention to this issue. Michael brady (719) 668-4068.

13 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 1997 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/05/2002

While vehicle was being stolen, the alarm did not sound off. Manufacturer was contacted.

14 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 1997 Honda Accord

Concerning the iginition switch recall on Honda vehicles - why should consumers be made to pay almost one hundred dollars to have an alarm system rewired for the vehicle??? the recall was not the fault of the consumer, and Honda dealerships are charging exorbitant prices to have the alarm system rewired. Even if the alarm is not a Honda part, the 1997 model did not come with an alarm, so obviously one had to be bought, and if the Honda has to remove the wires because of their recall, then there should be no reason to have to pay such high fees to have those wires replaced.

15 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

Dealership is charing consumer to remove a factory installed alarm system to fix ignition switch recall.

16 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 1998 Honda Accord

On 8/30/02 I took my car to immke NW Honda to have the ignition switch replaced due to a Honda recall. I left the car at the dealer for the weekend because I went away on a trip. When I returned Sunday night I had a voice-mail message from jason white saying that the ignition switch could not be replaced and that the car would not "be touched" because of the anti-theft device that was connected to it. He said that they could not reconnect the security system and would rather leave it alone until I agreed to incur the cost of reconnecting it. The following day I went to pick-up my car with the idea that I'd call Honda about this. When I returned home, I found that the security system in my car had been disabled and the ignition swith was not replaced. I called immke about this and have called them several times since only to get people blaming others and nobody taking responsibility for the problem. The service dept. Manager (terri nader)does not return my calls. I called Honda and they say its their policy not to re-connect after market security systems. In other words, they don't fix the problems they cause after their recall.
