The eps, brake, and abs lights came on when I started the car and would not go off. We took the car to our mechanic who after doing diagnostics told us we need to take our car to a Honda dealer and not drive any more than we had to for safety reasons. The dealer determined it was the vsa modulator and cost $1788. 78 to repair. Really disgusted with Honda as I read online where there have been several other Honda owners with the same problem yet there is still no recall on this problem!.

Check engine light went on and off a few times, took it to autocheck and found a code. Took it to dealer, they could not locate the code and claimed there is no issue they can find, come back when it happens again. Few weeks later, the check engine light came again in the evening, and now with other problems, the whole electric system including lights, radio etc started dancing on and off, abs light came on and off. Happened for a few minutes and then everything went smooth. I took the car back to dealership and they claim the code p0685 was found and there was a software update for the pcm and they applied that update. I asked why was there no intimation about it and the response was that it was not considered as one of the critical updates. With the experience I had, the way things were happening in that 2-3 minutes of electric system dance, anything could have gone wrong with the car. There should be a recall notice sent for this update.

Abs lights on purchase after 5 months. I purchase my car on 12/30/11. On 30/5/12 I saw the lights on, I dropped my car for 1 day at boardwalk Honda service. Next day, when I went to take my car the manager told me that rodents had eaten the wiring. The place where I park my car, there were three other cars also parked everyday. They never have such kind of problem. I think because of their car is old and my car is new so rodents like to eat new wires not a old wires. The manger told me that you have to pay for this and it will be more than $1000. I am completely disagree, why should I pay. Still its passed 5 months. I am looking forward to fix this problem by Honda with free of charge.

Abs light came on while attempting to stop vehicle at a stop sign. The vehicle failed to stop, sponginess occurred when applying brakes, then failure. Car went thru intersection before driver was able to apply emergency brake to stop vehicle. Dealer mechanic noticed slow leak abs modulator/accumulator system, and recommended replacement. Abs unit replaced at 71,035 miles. 8/2010. Cost for repairs $1600, must replace both as 1 unit, despite no failure with accumulator. At 104,000 miles, 6/2014, the abs light came on, and brakes were examined at brake, tire, front end, and alignment shop, where they have been continually maintained. An examination was done and no signs of unusual wear or damage to front or rear brakes, test drive done by technician. Recommended abs unit be diagnosed. Diagnostic performed at shop, determined that abs modulator needed replacement again. It had been 32,965 miles since the original abs modulator was replaced. Checked in with dealer and the abs modulator was only covered for 12,000 miles. Abs unit not replaced. At 117,141, 3/2016, the brakes failed again. While backing up and applying brakes they became spongy, went to floor, despite pumping, and failed again, causing vehicle to back into wooden benches, damaging car paint. Dealer estimation for abs unit repairs is $2300. Presently, abs unit not replaced. These overwhelming complaints, from vehicle owners, regarding the abs modulator unit, along with technical service bulletins, regarding the 1995 Honda Accord, support a recall being issued for the 1995 Honda Accord abs unit. This defective abs modulator is a safety issue and it is extremely dangerous to be without the ability to count on the braking system working, when it is vital to the stopping of the vehicle, and safety of others on the road!.
The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly stopped. The contact waited a few seconds and restarted; the vehicle performed normally after the restart. The failure occurred five times. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the timing chain and valve cover were replaced; however the abs light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000 and the current mileage was approximately 62,000.

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. While attempting to pull out of a driveway, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to move. Suddenly, the vehicle shot backwards into the street at 45 mph. She then attempted to place the vehicle into drive once again, but it would not move. Suddenly, the vehicle sped forward. She heard a loud noise, but did not know the origin. The contact attempted to drive home, but the vehicle failed again on a main road with moderate to heavy traffic. She aimed the vehicle toward the nearest curb and restarted the vehicle. Pointed in the direction of a curb, she was able to move the vehicle towards the curb with one jerk. The previous week, the contact noticed the transmission banging into gear when shifting. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission), although the failures were similar. Other failures include the abs sensor light, cd player, air compressor leakage, trunk release not functioning, and the catalytic converter. The vehicle was towed to the dealer as instructed by the manufacturer and a local mechanic also inspected the vehicle. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 60,446. Updated 07/29/08. Updated 08/05/08.
I have several complaints:
1) the srs light came on. The dealer claimed that I needed a new computer at a cost of $900. I researched possible problems on this and other websites and had listed the technical service bulletins that were relevant. The dealer was not so thorough. My research showed that Honda had been having problem with these computers already for several years and done nothing about it. The problem was with a sensor on the passenger side air bag which was malfunctioning in such a way as to leave in doubt whether or not the air bag would deploy. It is ridiculous that consumers have to pay nearly 1,000. 00 to fix systemic problems in a safety system that have repeatedly not been addressed. 2) my abs light started coming on. When starting the engine the pump motor for the abs system would activate and attempt to pump fluid in the system. It could be heard from inside the car as a grinding noise. It would cycle on and off for about 6 or so times then the relay would trip, turn off motor and illuminate the abs light. The dealer claimed that the ams module was malfunctioning and needed replacement at a cost of 1,700. 00. Ridiculous. After doing some research online it seems that this is also a common failure for this make and model of car. 3) wireless entry system failed. 4) a/c evaporator sprung a leak
5) driver side passenger door auto lock does not work. This car is far from reliable, as advertised to be, and very questionable in the safety department. I am finished with Honda!.

In April 2001, I purchased new Honda Accord ex from its dealer, planethonda in union, NJ. The car had been sore for the last three years. The car was recalled because of faulty transmission. The faulty transmission affected the engine and brakes. Not only, Honda should have replaced the faulty transmission, but also the engine should have been replaced. The faulty transmission made the car run in the low gear, damaged the engine. My car engine is burning more motor oil and I have to add one quart of oil for every 700-800 miles. I also had to replace the brakes, rotor/drum,brake shoe pads every 6-8 months because of faulty transmission. My car has the side air bag and abs lights on since 30000 miles. I was advised by NHTSA to send the complaint to NHTSA. Please forward the copy of the complaint to the appropriate department, so that they can look into the matter. Thanks. . . . . . . Ashok kumar.

On numerous occasions, the abs warning light has illuminated for no apparent reason. To Honda's credit, they have looked over the vehicle a number of times and pulled codes, but no obvious defects were found. The codes were reset. The problem presents more in colder weather. Recently, however, the issue has come with the red brake warning light. No obvious issues (leaks, fluid level, spongy feel, etc. ) have been detected. The light can be coaxed into going off by restarting the vehicle (sometimes) and other times it will go off by itself - usually leaving the abs warning light on. The problem, again, presents itself more in cold weather, and appears to be electrical. While the brakes appear to work and look excellent mechanically, it is unnerving that the issue has thus far been undiagnosed and resolved by Honda.
1996 Honda Accord with 48000 miles: abs system light comes on; expensive part to replace; seems to be a common problem with other Accords.

While driving the abs warning light illuminated on the dashboard intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the problem was fixed. The dealer replaced the abs accumulator and modulator.
I bought the 2001 Honda Accord v6 in June, after a year I had intermittent abs light on and off, I had this abs light on/off since Aug 2002 (which is still under warranty period), had the dealer checked and they found no problem until recently in June of 2003, the same problem occurred again and this time I took it to a different dealer to diagnostic (which I have to pay $100 since the warranty expired), they consulted with american Honda, and had the abs module replaced under customer assist warranty, the symptom was gone for a day but with sponge brake and have to bring back to dealer to re-bleed the brake again, with sponge brake pedal the brakes completely bled, and abs light was on. Techician diagnostic with no dtc on the scanner but the abs light was on, guess what. . . They reset it and let me drive home and told me drive safely. In Aug 10th 2003 (which is less than a month) the abs light is on/off again, I called up the dealer that perform the repaired and they request I let them had the car a day to find out what's going on, Aug 19th and they returned the car to me un repair and saying I have an electrical issue on the abs brake, they want me to pay 2-3 hours of labor to tear apart my car to find out the problem, I called up american Honda again. . . No help because of the warranty is expired and they will see if the problem is their then they will cover the repair under warranty. I was totally upset about this situation. This is my 1st and will be my last Honda, I will get rid it soon. So far. . . I visited the dealer 5 times for the same problem.
Abs light on 1996 Honda comes on after 1-2 miles after starting vehicle. Pump makes noise after starting vehicle. Slight leak. A Honda specialty shop has already replaced the resevoir and torqued the o-rings, but the light continues to come on. The Honda dealer says that the modulator needs to be replacee at a cost of $1100. After researching the internet this is obviously a big problem for 94-96 Honda Accords, expecially those manufactured in ohio with the VIN# beginning with 1hg, which my car is one of those vechicles from ohio. There is obviously a defect with this unit and this should be investigated by your office for a possible recall. Honda should take care of this problem for their comsumers. Please advise on any actions.
Without warning the air bag and the abs light illuminated and stayed on the entire time the vehicle was in motion.
On 2/10/03 our abs light on 1996 Honda Accord came on solid. Honda of oxnard stated the problem was a leaky modulator and both modulator and accumulator needed to be replaced. We authorized service at a cost of $1425. 00. I wrote american Honda motor CO and asked them to pay for the replacement or share in the cost since I researched many TSB's on NHTSA website indicating a problem with the abs on the 1996 Honda Accord. My contention is that they had prior knowledge of defects in the abs modulator and accumulator and are responsible for the failure of this system. On 2/20/03 I received a call from angie of american Honda customer relations denying my request.
While driving the vehicle intermittently abs light become inoperable, and some noise when the vehicle start. Dealer notified replace the abs which cost $1,000. Consumer states with 57,ooo miles was to premature to replace the abs. Please provide further information. Ts.
When engine is started I hear a noise coming from the abs modulator. The noise repeatedly occurs approx every 2-3 minutes. After approx 5 miles of driving the abs light comes on. I went to the dealership and they said that 2 parts needed to be changed, the modulator and ?. The cost of repair was 1200 with a dealer discount.
Second time the abs light has come on while driving. I had it checked out by the dealer twice. They reset it twice. Now recently my check engine light has been on. Reset it myself four times. . . And it comes on again after I let of the gas getting off the freeway. Don't like spending $70 to have them check it out and find nothing. No safety defect listed.

The abs light goes on and off, and I took it to a Honda repair place and they told me that the abs modulator/pump is leaking. They informed me that the part alone was $1,200. 00, and with labor it would be $1,400. 00 to replace. That too me sounds absurd. I contacted the Honda dealer, and they informed me that this was a rebuilt part, and Honda did not supply new parts to replace this faulty abs modulator. At this point I'm very disappointed with Honda of America, and I have found numerous individuals on the web that have this same problem with their abs modulators leaking. . . . To me this is just another opportunity for Honda to make an extra buck on its loyal customers.
Abs system light came on. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they stated that accumulator module and modulator was leaking. Please provide any further information. Honda issued a bulletin on this issue in 1996. Nlm.
Abs light stays on. Dealer says consumer needs a new control switch that will cost consumer $700. 00 . Cosumer has been trying to contact manufacturer, but has gotten no response.
While traveling noticed abs light activated, vehicle still had braking capacity. Took vehicle to nearest Honda dealer in goldsboro, n. C and was informed abs modulator needed to be replace quoted a cost of $ 996. 00.
While traveling intermittently abs indicator light would flash on throughout travel. Dealer has been notified. Consumer states that the abs was repaired once while still under warranty, the whole system was later replaced. Consumer states vehicle had repairs to the o-ring and dealer stated something about air in the system.
Took car to dealership after abs warning light came on. Diagnosed problem is that abs modulator needs to be replaced. Part cost $963. 50 and labor at dealership is $189. 60. That is in addition to $59. 00 I had to pay to have problem diagnosed.
The abs light comes on and stays on. In the owner's manual it states that if the light comes on and stays on, it means the abs system is not working.
I bought my 1996 Honda Accord ex about a year ago and the dealer told me that the abs light came on, but that it was nothing to worry about that it had been checked out and nothing was wrong. I did some searching on the internet and found out that I wasn't the only one who had an abs light problem. I talked to my Honda dealer and they told me that the worst case scenario was an abs modulator that would cost 1,200+. When I start my car it makes a funny noise for about 30 seconds and then my abs light comes on and the noise stops. If my abs system does not work and I slam on my brakes and they lock up and I hit someone then I am at fault , but I could not help hitting them if my brakes are locked up and I am still going. This could cause serious injury or maybe even death. I do not have 1,200+ dollars to fix this. The Honda CO. Shouldn't have used faulty parts. Could you please look into this and let me know something. Thank you for listening to my complaint.

A good place to go to find out information on abs modualtors is yahoo. Com. I have been told that this is done case-by-case. Here is a case number that I attained off of the internet. : (301). 990. 2000. I hope this helps. Thank you for listening to my complaint.
When starting engine vehicle makes a loud "roaring" noise that ceases when anti-lock brake warning light illuminates. Warning light then remains lit. Dealer has serviced several times, but repair lasts temporarily.
Abs lights came on while driving. This indicated brake failure on 3 separate occasions. Consumer ran a red light, hit a curb ,and crashed into a building. Upon impact, frontal air bags failed to deploy. Consumer sustained arm and back injuries. Dealership did not locate the cause of the brake failure.
Brake pedal goes 3/4 to floor on and off at all speeds/ conditions, very unpredictable. Many near misses, definatly a safety concern. Abs light just came on the other day and is now off. Schedualing appointment for dealer inspection next week. Also at stop, brake pedal will drop 2 - 3 inches everytime. . . Related?.
