In April 2001, I purchased new Honda Accord ex from its dealer, planethonda in union, NJ. The car had been sore for the last three years. The car was recalled because of faulty transmission. The faulty transmission affected the engine and brakes. Not only, Honda should have replaced the faulty transmission, but also the engine should have been replaced. The faulty transmission made the car run in the low gear, damaged the engine. My car engine is burning more motor oil and I have to add one quart of oil for every 700-800 miles. I also had to replace the brakes, rotor/drum,brake shoe pads every 6-8 months because of faulty transmission. My car has the side air bag and abs lights on since 30000 miles. I was advised by NHTSA to send the complaint to NHTSA. Please forward the copy of the complaint to the appropriate department, so that they can look into the matter. Thanks. . . . . . . Ashok kumar.

I believe there is a brake design or manufacturing defect in my 2003 Honda Accord v6. The dealership has replaced the front rotors on my vehicle twice within 37,000 miles. In addition, the front brake pads were replaced once and the rear brake rotors resurfaced once within this milage period. Going through three sets of rotors and one set of brake pads within 37,000 miles means there is either a design or manufacturing defect in the brake system. I experienced no brake failures as a result of these problems.

I purchased my 2003 Accord 4dr about 2 months ago. I started hearing an awful front brake noise at speeds >40mph and the steering wheel would shake. It almost felt like the car wouldn't stop. I'm taking the car into the dealership this evening for this and other issues, however, the service manager seemed as if he had never heard of this problem before. It's annoying to think that the service manager would not be aware of it since it has been so common.
At about the 12k miles, the brakes started to pulse during normal operation. Dealer cut discs and installed new pads. At 24k miles, same situation. Dealer replaced disc and new pads. Dealer could not resolve problem. I am a mechanical engineer and an auto mechanic. The problem is the lower quality steel being used by Honda for their disc brakes. I solved the problem by purchasing ($300 incl shp and handling) american racing disc. I have had no problems since then. Conclusion: Honda is using low quality steel in their disc brakes and has done nothing to improve their product quality. TSB are a poor/cheap way to solve problems.
Engine check light has illuminated. Cause unknown. Dealer has been contacted. The front brake pads were worn, in which the dealer replaced, the engine would stall while driving, the catalytic converter was replaced, the ignition switch was replaced which was the cause of the check engine light coming on and the stalling.

I spent over $800 in eight months on new rotors and brake pads. The parts replaced were original from the day bought March 1, 1997. Honda of scottsdale, Honda of tempe, and Honda of mesa all have kept required maintenance records. At about 32k miles I asked scottsdale Honda to check a rattling sound. They said I stell had 7500 miles on the brakes. At about 34k I took it to econolube n' tune because I was getting no satisfaction. He charged me $350 and said the rotor could not be turned on his lathe and needed to be replaced. Mary cutbirth, customer relations representative for Honda in colarado (303-696-3935) said try to get the calipers back because they were under the 36k miles warranty. Econolube n' tune threw them away. Honda would not help, at 45k miles Honda of mesa did the maintenance inspection. I took the car back because I heard rattling. They did nothing. At 50565 miles I was feeling shaking when I stopped. Honda of mesa said the rotor needed replacing with brake pads. It cost $450.
While driving on wet or dry pavement the front brakes failed, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has been notified.

Warped brake rotors caused steering wheel to vibrate.
While driving a noise can be heard, such as squeaking and popping coming from the brakes. Dealer refurbished all the discs on the brake system, which temporarily remedied the problem. Manufacturer was aware of the problem by the complaints he received from several consumers, but had no remedy for the problem.
Rotors and disc wear quickly; dealer claims that soft brakes cause problems.
When accelerating vehicle hesitates and appears not to gain any power. Also, a loud unusal noise occurs. Brakes squeled, dealer replaced front brake pads and machined rotors. Dealer found b-pipe gaskets leaking which was causing noise upon acceleration.
While brake pedal was depressed to floorboard consumer noticed vehicle jerking hard. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.
Brakes don't grip, they glide and in the rain andthey lock. I've almost had alot of accidents because of this. I have had them serviced three times and still no different response.
Front brakes failed.
