Honda Accord owners have reported 20 problems related to brake drum wheel cylinder (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Accord based on all problems reported for the Accord.
Car failed to start because brake pedal refused to depress slightly and close its part of the starter circuit. That failure-to-depress rendered the dashboard push-button inoperable. Honda dealer claimed that brake pedal use during parking had over-pressurized the brake pedal cylinder, which would gradually bleed off. That bleed off took anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours, in 3 separate instances. This problem renders this $30,030 car useless for taking a pregnant wife to the hospital or for a myriad of other have-to-start-the-car-now reasons.

I bought my 2010 Honda Accord 2dr lx-s (5a) brand new in August 2010 and have had several issues with it since - most of which has gotten worse that I am scared for my safety and those on the road. - while driving on both highway and non highway speeds ranging from 15mph - 60mph severe rubber smell and grinding of brakes-sounded as if the entire car was going to fall apart. When I got home the rear brakes and pads were completely rusted, black and were extremely hot to touch. Schaumburg dealership said the rear pads weren't installed correctly. -everyday since mile 25,000 my car when started at any time has made a large and extremely loud cranking noise that lasts about 2 seconds. Schaumburg dealership days this is related to the I-vtec 4-cylinder engine but it was no longer under warranty. (this was at 71,000 miles). No fuss had been made had they said it is completely fine with the cranking noise. -when turning and driving in general the car makes a weird whining noise from 0mph - 45mph I've noticed this many times as when turning left or right my vehicle ias extremely uneven. This also could relate to the starting wheel being 5 inches to the right when the wheels are straight; I've paid for multiple alignments and it continues to happen. -lastly the breaking system is terrible and does not stop correctly. I now have to slow down almost to a complete stop 500 feet prior so they work; I have to drive extremely slow and be very cautious.

We just got in the car after valet parking returned it to us. After the first brake application at about 20 mph the brakes went to the floor. We found a parking space and called for a tow to our Honda dealer. The dealer called later to say that the brake lines had rusted through and could not be driven. This car has been serviced at this dealer since new and had just had the required 150,000 mile inspection with no mention of a problem. In 61 years of automobile ownership, I have never experienced such a problem. I think that this is a safety issue and not a normal wear and tear issue such as a leaky brake cylinder.

Floorboard/vibration shake at 22mph and 72mph. Brake pulsation - dealer turned rotors, replaced rotors, and still have brake pulsation. We have had numerous problems with our Honda crosstour - normal acceleration at 22mph gas pedal, brake, floorboards shake. When cruising at 72mph or going down slight decline entire car shakes. Brakes were pulsating at 4896 miles, 10k miles, 18k miles, and still are not correct at 20k miles. What dealer has done so far - Jul 2011 - turned rotors, road force balanced tires/wheels - no improvements with vibration at 22 and 72 mph - dealer wanted to wait for donor parts to replace drive shaft assembly (we waited 4 months) - Honda TSB drive shaft assembly 29 oct 2011 - complained about vibration at 22 and 72mph again, and brake pulsation, dealer replace front axles - no improvements - and replaced front rotors. 18 Jul 2012 - complained about vibration at 22 and 72 mph, and brake pulsation again - dealer replaced rotors - dealer balanced tires and wheels again. August/September 2012 - Honda regional rep came in - road force balance tires again -swapped out front tires and rims, shutdown vcm, swapped out computer no improvements - vibration/shudder still present at 22mph and 72mph- brakes still pulsating 24 sept 2012 - national Honda rep came in checked valve tolerances - cylinder 5 valves tight causing misfires - didn't improve vibration/shudder replaced axles again, replaced torque converter engine vibration is better at 22mph but worse at 72 mph - cruising and much worse going down declines. Brakes are still not correct. Our car / engine has been shaking severely for a long time and we are worried about our safety - that something may come loose and cause us to lose control of the vehicle getting hurt or hurting someone else. Honda has not been posting these TSB's publicly.
Vehicle has been consuming oil since purchased with 9,500 miles. Oil consumption has contributed to fouled spark plugs. Fouled spark plugs triggered "cylinder #3 misfire" code and extremely poor performance at highway speeds. Two different occasions the car experienced different cylinder misfire issues. Honda dealer performed engine computer software updates on two different occasions that did not remedy the oil consumption issue. No warning lights to indicate that the engine was 3 quarts low on oil. If the consumer is not aware that the vehicle is using oil, there is potential for the engine to seize causing costly repairs or to lose power in a dangerous situation. Dealer is now performing Honda oil consumption test. According to Honda, consuming 1 quart of oil in 1,000 miles is normal and acceptable. This burned oil is being released into the environment as evidenced by the black carbon on the tail pipes. It is hard to believe that a leading car manufacturer would deem oil consumption in a brand new vehicle as normal or acceptable. This is the first vehicle out of 12 that I have ever owned that consumed oil. Even vehicles with over 200,000 miles did not consume oil. I purchased a Honda so that I did not have to worry about reliability or break downs for many years. Now I have to worry with checking the oil every week as to not get low or run out. Same vehicle has also had premature rear brake pad wear and had to be replaced at 60,000 miles. Complaint has been filed with american Honda. Class action lawsuits have been filed against Honda over the premature rear brake pad wear and the oil consumption issues.

2009 Honda Accord 4 cylinder, 30k miles, first owner passing a large truck on highway 80, California, east bound, near green valley road exit, approaching fairfield on September 28 at 2:30pm. Accelerator got stuck and car continued to accelerate to dangers speeds in excess of 70mph. I had to press on the brake pedal as hard as I could to maintain control. Then I shifted the car into neutral. The engine revved very high. I made sure my foot was only on the brake pedal. With in about 10 seconds the car stopped revving, but now my brake rotor are warped. I made sure my floor mat was out of the way. I have contacted the dealer. They have never heard of this problem. I had this same problem happen with my Honda odyssey.
Premature worn rear brakes at 21,000 miles for Accord lxi 4 cylinder! mostly all highway miles to commute to work.
2008 Honda Accord ex/4-door sedan/4-cylinder: bought new car 03/09; at considerably less than 10,000 miles rear brakes wore out prematurely, thereafter front brakes also wore out. Had to pay for replacements due to american Honda motor corp refusing to cover under warranty. They refuse any assistance or resolution.

Rear brakes are having to replaced at 16,000-20,000 miles, called Honda dealer they said it is a problem in the 2008 and 2009 models ,the engineers put rear brakes that are too small on the car. Honda corporate office knows it is a problem and are logging complaints at this time. My concern is that I have a 6 cylinder and that it is a heavier car then the 4 cylinder version.
I have encountered premature rear brake pad wear after 21500 miles on a 2008 Honda Accord v6 ex-l sedan. I purchased replacement pads for the front brakes, but was totally shocked when I found the front brake pads showing little to no wear. A quick check of the rear pads revealed the brakes completely worn down! we have never left the parking brake on the car, when in motion. I am 44 years old and have never witnessed a car wearing its rear pads before the front ones and especially when the fronts look new. Also, I am wondering how this excessive brake wear has been affecting our gas mileage, as we have yet to achieve Honda's mpg ratings even when running with cruise control on only 4 cylinders (eco mode one v6 ex-l). There are hundreds of complaints against Honda for the 08-09 Accord rear braking system and Honda and their dealerships are blaming the owners for improper driving habits. Girard gibbs llp and CO-counsel filed a class action lawsuit in September 2009 against Honda, related to the rear braking systems in the 2008-2009 Honda Accord vehicles. The class action lawsuit against Honda seeks certification of a nationwide class on behalf of owners and leasees of 2008-2009 Honda Accord vehicles. The case is pending in the united states district court for the central district of California before judge morrow. Also, apparently Honda of America has been aware of this issue as the new safety design that comes standard with the car (vehicle stability assist, traction control, anti-lock, etc) has had an unanticipated affect on the life of the rear brake pads. At this point Honda should be issuing a recall on all 2008-2009 Accords to correct this issue.
Brake pads on 2008 Honda Accord sedan (4-cylinder engine) needed to be replaced at 25,000 miles, which I feel is premature. The brake pads should last at least 50,000 miles.
This involves continuous brake rotor problems with my 2008 Honda Accord ex 6 cylinder car. At 42600 miles I complained to Honda about a grinding noise when making turns. They replaced the rear pads/shoes and machined the rotors. At 61200 miles I complained to Honda about scraping and clunking noises when backing up. They replaced the front pads and had to machine the front rotors because of warping. At 64200 miles I complained to Honda about the same clunking noise when going in reverse and a thumping sound when braking. The tech found a right rear caliper bolt was loose. He retorqued the bolts. I'm seeing so many complaints online about the '08 Accord brakes and I'm concerned this problem is going to keep occurring. I've never needed to have my rotors worked on in any car I've owned.
I own a 2009 Honda Accord with 30,000 miles. It is a 4 cylinder front wheel drive vehicle. The rear brakes on the vehicle have worn down and now need to be replaced. I've contacted Honda USA and they acknowledge their engineers have identified this is a common problem on 2008 and 2009 Accords. The company claims this is not covered under the warranty, and will not cover the cost of replacing the brakes. This is a safety issue that has been identified, and yet Accord owners have not been notified nor has a recall been issued.
Honda premature rear brake wear. 2008 Honda Accord 2-door 4 cylinder auto trans. Has 16,696 miles and rear brakes wore out. Inner pads were metal on metal According to repair shop (pep boys) they did not want to work on the vehicle as they felt the rear brake calipers were defective. The said the dealer should replace the calipers under warranty. Took to dealer next morning on Aug 19 2009. Got a story about how it is normal for rear brakes to wear out at 16,000 miles. They would not cover a safety issue under warranty. Told rear brakes do not last as long as front brakes. Told inner pads on the rear axle wear out faster than the outer pads due to this reason or that reason. Dealer explained that this is not covered under warranty and then charged me for replacing rear brakes. I expect the current set of brakes to only last another 16,000 miles. Researching other owners online and personal friends this is a pervasive problem. Also car magazine motor trend had the same problem. . Read more...
Brand new Honda Accord sedan v6 cylinder automatic transmission. Less than two weeks old, rear brakes howl madly, vibration when braking on firm stops. Dealer turned the rotor-out of round . 12mm. Results better for now, but. . . . I wonder how long it will last. Honda has reputation of poor brake system apparently.
I have a 2009 Honda Accord exl w/navi 4 cylinder. It currently has 6000 miles and I bought it in September 2008. I have taken it to the dealer 3-4 times about the brakes squealing. It occurs every time I apply the brakes, no matter the speed or use. They first told me it was too new and they had to break in. Then that it was because they were cold due to the winter weather and I needed to drive 55-60 mpg and slam on the breaks to warm up. Then it was due to new brake pads not being made like they used to be when they used asbestos in pads. Then it was because all the rain had caused a build up and they needed to be cleaned. Everytime they told me it was normal and something I would have to deal with. It is not normal for a brand new car's brakes to squeal everytime they are applied. This seems to be a common complaint on this website and Honda needs to do something about it.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Accord. The contact stated when driving at approximately 60 mph, there were unusual vibrations and the vehicle would abnormally veer toward the right. The dealer rotated the tires but the vehicle then began to veer toward the left. The dealer realigned the front suspension but to no avail. In addition, the brakes would sporadically squeal when depressed. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer replaced the rotors twice but the failure persisted. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure persisted. The failure mileage was 50 and the current mileage was 24,800. On July 26, 2010, the check engine light, vsa and an exclamation warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle began idling erratically and the vehicle kept wanting to cut as the consumer approached traffic lights. Upon inspection of the vehicle, it was determined there was a problem with the cylinder. The spark plugs and cylinder were replaced. Updated 08/10/10.

The front and rear brakes are starting to wear prematurely and make noise due to a new design, both rear wheel cylinders are leaking. Nlm.
When on the road vehicle wanders. It has no neutral point. When trying to correct it, vehicle wanders to the other side. Dealer has been contacted. Also, when brakes are applied, brake pedal continues down its full travel to a mechanical "clunk". Master cylinder has been replaced, but still occurs.
