Recently the back light on the radio/hvac/clock panel went out. After checking all fuses it was determined not to be a blown fuse. Service advisor/mechanic informed me that it would cost between $200-$400 to fix and that the radio unit needed to be replaced. This led me to conduct my own research and was surprised and disappointed to find that this has been and continues to be a common problem on newer models of Honda Accords ('03 and newer). I also learned from numerous other owners that they'd received the runaround from the car dealership service departments. However, several indicated that after making numerous calls to Honda of America the company agreed to pay for the repair. It appears to be a wiring problem, which could, in my opinion, lead to more serious problems. As a single parent I purchased the Honda for my daughter, who attends college some 700 miles away from home and requires a safe and reliable vehicle. Since Honda of America is aware of the problem they really should issue a recall to owners.
: the contact stated the instrument panel lights failed to work in the vehicle. The only lights that are working on the instrument panel are the turn signals. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. Upon inspecting the vehicle it was determined the dimmer control for the instrument panel was faulty. There is an NHTSA recall, # 04v256000, regarding the interior lighting. The VIN and motor size was not included in the recall According to the manufacturer.

The back lighting on my radio clock has stopped working.
The lights on the stereo and the center of the dashboard went out and would not come back on. Unable to see the control switches for the ac/heater which was dangerous during night driving. The stereo worked - but it is completely dark - no lights. I called Honda on 2 occasions about it ( case# : n032006-03-08-00025) and explained the situation to them and even reported that there was a service bulletin for a known problem with the 2003 Honda Accords ( bulletin : 04-027 ). However, the Honda representatives were not particularly helpful and would not acknowledge the validity of the service bulletin. Also, they did not want to admit that there is a known problem with the 2003 Accords and back lights on the dashboard. I took the car to a Honda dealership in woodstock and they eventually replaced the complete stereo with a re-furbished one which solved the problem (at no charge) - initially the dealership did not want to acknowledge that there was a known problem which caused the back lights on the dashboard to go out. Luckily, the car was still under warranty, I found many similar complaints on the internet where it ended up costing the owners between $400 - $800.
The illumination (back light) behind the climate control and audio system has gone out making it impossible to select the defrost controls which makes cold weather driving near impossible. Also, climate control inside the vechicle is almost impossible during the day and impossible during the night. Pulling off to the side of the freeway to adjust the controls (with the aid of a flashlight) poses it's own set of dangers.
Radio/hvac lighting has failed two times, repaired by Honda dealership. The unit is not working again. Unable to see hvac/climate control/radio/clock when unit is out. I almost rear ended another vehicle trying to adjust heat (had to swerve into emergency lane and nearly landed in a ditch. Honda of America refuses to replace the unit despite unsuccessful attempts to repair it.
At 84,366 miles my car's check engine light came on. Took Accord to mechanic and was told the egr valve error code appeared. The mechanic said to take to Honda due to recall for this part. Picked car up from mechanic and car also had srs light on. Researched online since I already have recall for dash light. Found many other Honda owners with same srs light. Found out my air bags will not function if sensor illuminated. Also, called Honda and they said I was beyond the mileage (80k) for the extended warranty on the defective egr valve replacement. Asked what Honda was doing about the front airbags and was told no decision has been made. I have also discovered my car has the extended warranty for defective/faulty transmission. So when I'm driving down the highway my tranmsmission may give out at high rate of speed and if collsion occurs, my air bags will not deploy. My seat weld joint broke at 54k too! I used a 99 Toyota 4runner as replacement vehicle and discovered the seatbelt warning light came on when my 40lb. Dog sat in passenger front seat. My Accord never has detected my dog in the front seat ever! this car is riddled with safety defects and poor manufacturing. Honda should be held responsible for protecting the owners from injury including monetary repairs/ replacement costs for all of these safety defects and engine defects.
2004 Honda Accord-ex (cloth); bought new at Honda dealership. From the purchase date to present, problems with the following: conditioner/heater: water dripping from vents and window area; musty/moldy smell. *driver's seat: only one-way power is up; extremely uncomfortable. *stereo/entertainment: display goes on and off; cd's are burning hot when removed after playing for short time; whole area around system and panels are hot; sound is muffled from speakers. *front driver door: latch not functioning properly; doesn't stay open when it should and closes on person in driver seat when getting in/out car. *brakes: grinding. *trunk: after snow or rain and after brushing off snow from vehicle or after rain has stopped-- when trunk is open, water/snow gets into trunk (not designed well. . . Needs better weather-stripping. ).
Instrument panel light will go out while I'm driving and I can't see the speedometer or the lights on the shifter (located in the middle near console). This is very distracting and stressful. It takes me 35 to 40 min. To drive to work, sometimes the lights go out after 15 min. Other times they don't. It is still dark in the morning when I leave so I have to use a flashlight to keep my eye on the speedometer. I also noticed my gas was very low one time and I suddenly realized my warning light never turned on. This feature is also affected. I have driven on bumpy roads and they don't turn off, smooth they do and they don't. I never know when it will happen as most of the time I drive in the daytime. All other lights work fine. Dealer
could not make it repeat after having it there a whole day. After I told them that it was hard to see the dash light go out during the day time. They kept it another day to check it out again. I was told the next day it had a short. That it was going to cost me over 500. 00 dollars to fix. ( I went online to check 2001 Honda Accord recalls)
I told them that other models of the 2001 Honda Accords were doing the same thing and there had been recalls for them, why can't they work with me if mine is doing the same thing? I trusted the Honda name and I feel this is a safety issue. This should not be happening. They just basically said sorry, we can't fix every car that has a problem for free. The government makes the rules, if they want to recall your model, they will have to do it. This was the service supervisor. I don't believe I should be responsible for this problem. How could I have prevented this? the service manager made me believe there was nothing they could do. I told them it was unsafe to drive like this but that I'd see what I could do to get the money to get it fixed. Unfortunately I am still financially unable. I just don't drive at night.

The instrument panel lights would intermittently go out and come back on while driving at night. Consumer is unable to see any of the instrument gauges when the lights go out. , vehicle is at the dealer and the cause of the problem is still undetermined.
I have a 1998 Honda Accord ex coupe v6. I recently had the cable reel assembly fail on this vehicle (77900-s84-a22). This is the part that attaches the electrical connections from the steering wheel to the rest of the car. This part failed causing all of my switches on my steering wheel to fail and there is a high likelyhood that the airbag was inoperable also. The Honda dealer told me that these parts almost allways fail on 1998 Honda Accords. This part is critical to the operation of the airbag, and this creates a safety issue. Honda does not list a recall for this issue on this vehicle. Someone should look into this issue to see if a recall needs to be made.

The need to dim instrument panel lighting or reset trip odometers requires reaching behind steering wheel. Doing this while driving poses an steering interference hazard. Why not locate these controls in a more safe area?.
When the driver started the vehicle the dashboard caught on fire and the doors automatically locked. Somehow the driver was able to get out of the vehicle and the fire department extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Short in the electrical system. The dashboard clock light went out, followed by the ac adapter. About 2 months after the adapter went out (working spuratically) the driver's side power locks stopped working when the car is off and/or the door is opened. I also have a "check engine" light come on when there is nothing wrong with my engine.

Srs light on dashboard came on and stayed on. Vehicle is only 4 years old. Consumer has not yet contacted dealer. Please provide any further information.
Consumer had just gotten out of vehicle and into house when vehicle caught on fire. Fire started under dashboard. Fire department insisted fire coming from wiring harness. Manufacturer sent a fire marshal for Honda who ruled it to be arson.
Wiring short near glove compartment. Car was in parking lot at work. Started internal fire. Interior completely destroyed. Car totalled. Car still under warranty.
On 3 occasions the car has died while accelerating up a hill. All the indicators light up on the dash. The car loses power steering and braking ability. It starts right up after this occurs. I explained to the technician that the car is hesitant when going up inclines. He told me this was normal.
