1 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2000 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/05/2020

Several weeks ago, my car was recalled. Because of the car's history, the air bag inflator is more likely than average to kill me if it activates (explodes). The dealerships in my area (there are several) cannot obtain replacement parts. . . Needed to fix the problem. . . For 18 to 24 months. This delay is due to manufacturing issues and the coronavirus pandemic. My car is not designed to allow the installation of an on/off switch for the air bags. Therefore, I would like to have the exploder disabled until replacement parts are available. None of the dealerships in my area will do this, without written authorization from the NHTSA. I've been trying to fins a way to ask the NHTSA to send me a written deactivation authorization. Also. . . The dealership would need instructions on how this (disabling the bomb in my steering wheel) can be done without affecting the normal operation of the car. I would need approved directions from the NHTSA to give to the dealership's mechanics. Alternately, I can continue to drive my car on a daily basis, in the presence of an active, deadly, explosive device. . . For the next 18 to 24 months.

3 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/23/2018

Takata recall: no notice ever received! our 2009 Honda Civic was purchased by us in September of 2008, and our phone number and physical address have not changed in the 10 years since then. As of today, may 7, 2018, a call to Honda of America's customer service phone number still associates both our phone number and address with this vehicle. The washington post (4/23/18) quotes Honda of America executive vice president rick schostek as saying, we're good at repairing vehicles, but finding and convincing customers of older model vehicles to complete recalls, now that has proved a difficult challenge. is he implying that we were notified that the vehicle needed to be repaired? we never received a notification. Honda has our physical address, phone number, email, and the local dealer still sends regular notices to that same email address. The vehicle title was switched to our son's name about 5 years ago. He lives a couple of miles from us, and he has never received a notification either. So how did we find out that the car's airbags were recalled? a law firm sent a postcard to his home asking him to join in a class action lawsuit against Honda of America. Guess it wasn't so hard to find the car's owner if unsolicited attorneys can find them!.

5 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

Takata recall - I've been dealing with Honda's customer service department since the middle of June. Both my boyfriend and I live together. We both drive the same car make and model but his is an '07. We both have recalls on our passenger airbags and we have a switch that indicates when nobody is the passenger seat it shuts off the airbag. Unfortunately, both of our vehicles don't do that, the light never indicated that the airbag is shut off and that means that the airbag is still active. So in other words if we get hit, even though nobody is in the seat, our passenger airbags are going off. Ive spoken to several people regarding this and even submitted photos. Finally, they called me regarding alternate transportation on 8/15 but today, 8/16, my case manager yvonne, stated that I was denied alternate transportation. I love that Honda thinks this is a game. In other words, my boyfriend and I are not going to take separate cars to the grocery store or when we go out of town. We carpool and I tried to explain that to the case manager and several people but I guess my boyfriend's life or my life don't really matter to them. My case manager yvonne, stated that she is ordering a part to fix my airbag light and I may have to pay out of pocket for this repair. I wonder when this will even come in by then my airbag may go off without warning or what if I get into an accident. Below, I have submitted photos of my car while it's on and as you can see the light is off when it's supposed to be on.

6 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

Takata air bag failed recall! my 2007 Honda Civic sedan has an inflator malfuction located in the driver side rear that keeps the airbag light on at all times. Ive taken it to valley high Honda 2differant occasions. 2009, 2016 the dealer said they wont fix it, I should go to pick a part. Honda America also told me they wont fix it. Not covered under warranty! the bags are not in working order due to the light being on and will not deploy if involved in an accident! I thought safety was #1 priority for Honda? I have all my documentation showing my multiple visits. My wife and children travel in this car daily. I would like some help fixing this so my family will be protected if in an accident. I received a recall notice but the dealer said its not covered. I am writing this complaint after receiving an auto airbag settlement card in the mail. I purchased the vehicle used from valley high Honda in 2007. The vehicle has never been involved in an accident while I have been the owner. I was told it wasnt in one prior to my purchase. I was informed by the same dealer that the inflator wiring was damaged and came disconnected from the inflator switch and that I was at fault. ? I recently have moved and dont have all my docuents readily available, so I havent attached them yet. The airbag light had began coming on shortly after or near the time of my purchase of the car. I will send or attach my little bit of information/documents as soon as I can get settled and locate it.

8 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

Takata recall on June 20, 2016, I noticed my vehicle was recalled, and I spoke to the dealership who informed me that they did not know when the part would be in and that they would call me. On 7/26/2016, I called for an appointment to replace the air bag - in response to a letter I had received from Honda. I was switched to the parts department, where I was informed the part is on back order, and they will call me when it is in. The letter also advised that I avoid having a passenger sit in the front passenger seat until recall repair was completed. As of August 26, 2016, I have not yet been called, and I cannot transport any passengers in my vehicle. This incident has interfered substantially with my use and enjoyment of my vehicle, and it is taking an inordinate amount of time to repair. I believe I should be reimbursed for the vehicle loss of use as well as having the air bag inflator repaired.

9 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/08/2015

I received a recall notice for the drivers side airbag and scheduled an appointment to have the recall fixed. Shortly after the drivers side air bag was fixed the air bag dash light came on and remains on to this day. A few months after the driver side air bag recall was fixed I received a second recall notice for the passenger side air bag. Upon taking the vehicle in for the second recall I inquired about the air bag light staying on. They proceeded to tell me that the relay located in the seat belt buckle was the cause of this problem and that it would cost $403. Upon my research of the internet and speaking with others who also had this same problem after the recall air bags were fixed, is seems like this is a common problem. Honda disagrees that this is any cause that they have done. . . . Just coincidence that so many other people are having this same problem after the recall on the air bags are fixed. Honda claims that it is a relay switch located in the seat belt buckle. It just seems to be such a common problem after the air bags problem is fixed. I tried to tell them also that my car has a life time warranty on the seat belt. They declined to fix it, saying that the problem was an electrical problem. So I asked them what it means since the air bag light is on in the dash. Honda says that the air bags will not work if I am in an accident, since the air bags cannot tell that the seat belt is buckled. So the bottom line is the air bags will not deploy if in an accident because the dash light came on after they tried to fix the air bags. The remedy for this according to Honda is a new seat belt buckle of which they will not cover in the lifetime warranty on the seat belt because they claim it is an electrical issue. It was my understanding that auto makers had to fix safety features that malfunction.

10 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I have made repeated calls to Honda America at 1 800 999 1009 I cannot get an answer from anyone as to whether or not this car has a takatta airbag which is a potentially a small bomb mounted in front of the passenger and or driver. I've called two Honda dealers in the seattle wa area and they will not directly answer the question, all they will say is there is no recall for this vehicle at this time!!! given the state of ethic s and honesty in this country today I am somehow a bit distrustful of corporate japan, corporate America. . . . To say nothing of general motors and the problem of ignition switches purposely buried for years. . . Executives should be jailed.

13 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/24/2011

My 2001 Honda Civic was part of a recall due to a problem with the srs. I went to the dealership and I was told that my car was also under recall due to a problem with the switch for the lights. The problem was with the low-beams. I made an appointment for both to be fixed. When I brought the car in, I was told that it was not part of the recall for the lightswitch, although the recall contained the make and model year of my car. I am disappointed that this wasn't fixed as part of the recall because I have been experiencing problems with the switch, going so far as to purchase two sets of headlights in the two years I have owned the car, and I don't understand why if it occurred in other cars made the same year as mine, why wouldn't Honda fix it knowing it has been a problem. My VIN apparently was a few numbers off. I would think that if I'm having the same problem, Honda would fix my switch even though it isn't within the recalled VIN range. My second complaint is that after having replaced the recalled part, the srs indicator light is still on. This dealership allowed me to drive away in my unsafe car, which will not pass inspection due to the safety issue. The final issue is that I was promised the car at 1 o'clock, and I didn't get a call that it was finished until almost 2 o'clock, and at that time I had to scramble to find someone at the very last minute to pick up my child from school. I will own this car in another six months, and I was sincerely hoping to trade it in for a newer model Honda. I am not sure I'll do that now.

14 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

My srs light came on and continued to stay on. I did nothing out of the ordinary. I simply started my car, put the seat belt on and started driving when I noticed the srs light come on. The Honda dealership inspected the issue and found it was a seat belt buckle switch malfunction. They told me that if the problem is not fixed it could be very dangerous. I was told that in the case of an accident, the seat belt may fail and the airbags will not deploy. I had the issue repaired for $295. 00. After recently looking through old receipts, I found that there was a recall in 2007 for the opds and the srs light staying on. In that case, the airbags were in danger of not deploying as well if someone was out of position in the seat. It seems to me that there is an issue with Civic's srs system and the seat belt buckle switch is an ongoing and related issue as well. Seat belts are covered under a lifetime warranty but for some reason the buckle switch is not. In any case, I'm wondering why there hasn't been a recall on the seat belt buckle switch when it is a prevalent problem with this vehicle. Years after I had this issue, I am seeing on the internet that many people are still having the same problem. Something as important as seat belts and airbags failing in this vehicle during an accident should have been recalled immediately.

15 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2001 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/08/2009

The srs light on my dashboard of Honda Civic 2001 stays on. Upon working with an authorized dealer, the diagnosis of this error is "left front seatbelt buckle switch failure" (code 09-3). I was verbally told that this means in event of a crash the airbags would not deploy. I cursory search of internet forums suggests my case is not an isolated incident. When I requested the dealership and subsequently Honda motor CO to resolve this issue, which has to be considered safety related, I was told it is not covered under warranty. Given the potential of airbag non deployment, I would request urgent attention in this matter.

16 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/30/2009

Dashboard seatbelt restraint light came on 9 months into ownership of a used 2004 Honda Civic sedan - took in for state inspection but will not pass state inspection without repair. I was informed it is the driver seatbelt switch that needs repair, cost $260.

17 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/24/2008

Srs airbag light indicator went on suddenly on ignition and never turned off. Brought to dealership who said the srs fuse box needed to be replaced as it wasn't under warranty anymore. Other Civic's also have multiple complaints of this. Front passenger window also moves up real slow almost to a halt sometimes using both driver and passenger power window switches. Haven't taken this in as already past the warranty too. Electrical stuff seems to be going kaputz after the warranty ended.

18 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/11/2005

I was traveling 25-30 mph when a blazer pulled out in front of me, after hitting them. . . I realized that neither airbag deployed ( I don't have an airbag on/off switch) . This was odd because we hit directly in the middle on the front of our 2005 Honda Civic (4-door) and the tow man said that there was a senor on both the drivers side and the passenger side, but only the passenger side looked as if it hadn't been hit. Now while speaking with the police my wife was asked how fast we were traveling at time of impact and she was not sure, asking the officer "how fast do you need to be traveling to deploy the airbags? because it must not have been that fast neither one had triggered. " the officer stated well he would have to go check this out because the accident scene and the Honda's damage he had just assumed that the airbags were deployed. Now I have 7 stitches above my eye and bruised chest and knees, and my wife has a chipped bone in her neck. I would not be so upset but this car had about 3500 miles on it and I had made 3 cars payments, and everytime I search for Honda and safety features the thing I read the most is how it had a 5 star rating for front impact for airbags. I have also read up on the new airbags with the settings for how fast, size, and position of the passengers, which in this case my wife and I were both looking forward and both she and I are full sized adults and I am not sure of the speed in which these new airbags fall under, but 25-30 is still enough speed for a good impact and we hit right in the front of our vehicle. . . We also had my 13 month old daughter who was fine. But with all this said I don't understand with everything stated and we the car as far as we know right now considered totaled why we are hurt more because there were no airbags to save us. Thank you for your time.

21 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 1999 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/16/2002

I received a recall notice on my 1999 Honda Civic for the ignition switch in September 2002. I took the car to get a new switch installed. After that I did not see a positive change or faster start up of the car . In fact, it seemed to start slower and slower. When I would press the accelerator I felt a grinding sensation under my foot from the gas pedal, which sounded like the car was struggling to speed up. Also, when I would turn the key in the ignition the car would not start right away, it stalled for about (7) seven seconds or so. I believe this car is a lemon. When I bought it, the gears wouldn't change properly. I would press the accelerator to go up to spped on the highway and it would take a long time for the car to change gears, it sounded very loud because of this. I don't know why it did this, I am concerned and it became very annoying. I had an accident while driving this car on oct. 16, 2002. As I was driving I heard something crack under the car and the car started to spin to the other side of the road causing me to lose control of the car. I believe the car had a safety defect that caused the wheels to break, resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. The insurance adjuster told me these are some of the damages to the car: the bottom of the floor shifted, the axle broke, the tires and wheels broke, they declared the car a total loss. I believe the wheels/tires broke first, which is probably what the cracking sound was that I heard which caused the car swerve. My insurance company paid the car off so fast which leads me to believe they are hiding something. Aslo, I think the steering of the car was out of line, because sometimes the car would veer to the right when I would be driving straight it would be difficult to stay in the lane I would appreciate all the information you can give to help me find out what else is wrong with this car as I already said a recall for the ignition was issued more defects may be found. Dt.
