Engine was overheating due to a defective head gasket. “the head gasket provides a seal that keeps that pressure contained within the engine’s cylinder. The head gasket also provides a seal for internal engine water and oil passages“ (Honda). I have found hundreds of others with similar defects for the Honda 2017-2018 1. 5l engines. I had no warning until the engine was too hot and the car alerted me to pull over to cool the engine. Car is regularly serviced by Honda dealership.
Sudden loss of power. Unable to accelerate. Car towed to Honda dealer who confirmed blown turbo and likely internal engine damage. This was the first year the turbo 4 was installed in the Honda Cr-v and this problem has been reported previously. We were led to believe from consumer reports that Honda had extended the warranty on cars with this engine, but dealer said no.
Fuel injectors have failed on this car 2x before it has hit 120k miles. First was at 50k ish. Honda will not acknowledge this as an issue, even though it is an extremely common issue with all of the 1. 5l engines on civics, accords and their other cars in this engine type. My mechanic has checked the service records and the most common issue with these cars, and this is a super common issue, always requiring fuel injectors to repair it. Car idles very very badly when started, and should not be having all of these issues on a well-maintained 8 year old car. It causes a check engine light to appear and an “emissions system issue” warning to appear on the car. It’s only been 3/4 years with the 2nd set of injectors (which were replaced under my optional extended warranty on the car, purchased through Honda). But I was not warned that this was a common issue until going to an independent service technician when my check engine light came on. I.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment, after which, the vehicle lost motive power and was unable to accelerate above 40 mph, prompting the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the turbo. The contact was informed that the turbo needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I have purchased a car from a private seller with an altered odometer (mileage discrepancy and now it has all type of lights showing on the dash and car stops running all of a sudden I have taken to Honda dealer for diagnosis and they told us we been fraud on miles and they messed with it electronically.
Vehicle head gasket blown and fuel injection problem $6,700 repair. Merging on to the highway the car wouldn’t accelerate and went into limp mode. Mechanic found water in one of the cylinders after pressure testing the coolant system. Only 97,000 miles on vehicle. This vehicle has been an in town driver. This should not have happened.
Engine was overheating due to head gasket failure. Engine overheat happened suddenly when driving on highway and had to slow down and stop. Problem has been confirmed by two Honda dealers and one local mechanic with full inspection. Engine overheat massage showed.
Fuel injectors are bad. $2300 at the dealership to fix it. Mine went out in my driveway so I guess I’m lucky. There are a ton of these on the road and many are having this exact problem.
2017 Honda crv had several warning lights came on and dealer indicated it was fuel injection problem. Dealer charged $ 1500 and fixed problem. Again this year same warnings light came on. Dealer is indicating it's due to timimg chain issue and dealer wants to pull parts from engibe to see what the problem is and depending on what the problem is fix it. Dealer wants to charge more money depending on what they find and is high cost item. Delaer is not specific.
I have had my car taken to Honda dealerships with an issue of all my warning lights would come on. No one has been able to fix the issue. The spark plugs, battery, air filters, have been replaced and diagnostic tests were done. The warning lights would stop for a couple of months and then start again. The last time all the warning lights came on my car began to stall and not got over 8 - 10 mph when I would start to drive. I would pull over, turn off my car, restart, then it would be ok to drive. The part that scared me was when I was on a busy highway, traveling close to 65 - 70 mph and my car stalled/lost power. Thankfully, I was able to pull to the side of the highway without getting myself or anyone hurt. I have since stopped driving on the highway. The last mechanic (Honda certified) has told me my head gasket needs replaced. Not something I would expect but it does explain a lot of the issues I have been having. My car is parked until I am able to get it repaired.
Well maintained vehicle with less than 86,000 miles and all 4 fuel injectors failed, causing check engine light, which caused all assistive device systems to turn off (collision avoidance, abs, traction control, etc. ). In researching the issue, these injectors are failing in this make/model frequently at mileages well before you would expect a fuel injector to wear out, suggesting there is a defect in the injectors used in this model year crv.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic; however, while at the shop, the vehicle failed to start. The mechanic determined that the battery had failed, and the battery was replaced. The contact stated that within a week, the warning lights returned. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic to be diagnosed and it was determined that the spark plugs were all black. The mechanic then performed a tune-up on the vehicle; however, within a week, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with a misfire. The contact was informed that there were three fuel injectors that needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not under recall or covered under warranty. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
I replaced fuel injectors in my 2017 Honda crv in September 2024 at northtown Honda in buffalo, NY. In November 2024 my girlfriend was driving the vehicle in michigan and the car slowed down to below 20 mph on the highway and flashed all dashboard warning lights, what Honda refers to as "limp mode". This almost caused her get hit by a semi truck. The car was towed to Honda of grand blanc and I was told it needs a new turbo. The turbo was replaced and then in December 2024 the car again broke down while I was visiting toronto, canada. I had to pay for a tow back to northtown Honda where I was informed that the vehicle needs a new engine and turbo. I have taken very good care of my vehicle, always done proper maintenance and oil changes. This model is known for some oil dilution problems and I was never informed of that from northtown Honda where I regularly maintenance my vehicle. The car is currently at northtown Honda as they told me the bill is around $12k and I can't afford to pay that.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a misfire in cylinder #1, causing the fuel injectors to fail. The contact was informed that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,601.
2017 Honda crv all warning lights are on- the vehicle has no driving power- it was diagnosed at hilton head Honda as needing a major repair or turbo charger and I am out of warranty.
I have repeatedly had to bring my car into the shop (6 times now, only owned it for 5 months) to have the spark plugs and/or fuel injectors replaced multiple times. The car will suddenly start shuddering when trying to accelerate over 2 rpm. It has also stalled twice (while accelerating it slowed down to a stop in the middle of the road) and the engine light will flash. Mechanics have noted misfires in the engine and that the plugs/injector are getting clogged and dirty very quickly. I don't know much about vehicles, but I know I should not have to be replacing the spark plugs and fuel injectors 2-3 times in 5 months of ownership as I've never had to replace them in previous Honda vehicles that were owned for 5+ years.
The vehicle has a consistent problem where all dashboard warning lights come on at the same time, sometimes when this happens the vehicle enters what they call limp mode and won't go above 10-20 mph. This occurred multiple times to me and recently on the highway where a tractor trailer almost hit my vehicle because of the loss of speed with no brake lights. It has been to multiple Honda dealerships where most recently I was told it was fuel injectors. I replaced the fuel injectors and it happened again this time the dealership told me to replace the turbo. Did that and on the way home from the dealership the lights come back on. There should be a class action law suit against Honda for this common issue that they don't take seriously. Wait until someone actually is hurt by this problem.
Driving and all dashboard lights come on and cruise, lane assist, hill descent, emergency brakes, steering assist, etc. Is all disabled. Come to dealer & they say it’s due to fuel injector failure which is known across these 2017 Honda crvs, but they have no recall.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact resumed driving, but the vehicle failed to exceed 20 mph. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,300.
Numerous times over the life of the car all dash warning systems and lights activate while you are driving. Sometimes they persist after restarting engine. Numerous visits to dealer to address and finally they stated that fuel injectors need replaced. Searching this issue online seems to indicate this is a common event with 2017-18 crvs like mine. I contacted Honda and they stated that there is no recall or warranty extension for an issue like this. The car is not safe to drive with all the alarms staying active. This started taking place in 2018 with only 30k miles and would happen rarely. But started to happen monthly in 2024 until I replaced the fuel injectors last September.
Unknown: all light on dash come on. Maybe an electrical or engine problem. All safety features on car disable. Honda dealer said it’s an emission problem. Battery has been changed and problem still continues. Started at about 70,000 miles. Comes on and goes away on its own. Happened about 7 times now.
Earlier this week and again today, my wife and I were using our 2017 Honda Cr-v ex when the car behaved very anomalously. In both of these instances, the car started normally and moved out onto the street, but then the engine abruptly bogged down and multiple messages of the form "xxx system has a problem" would cycle on the driver's display. At this time, the car would barely move forward or reverse, and shifting into reverse ("r") was accompanied by a noticeable jerk and a thump. The shifter display on the driver's display also appeared to be showing all of the possible shift settings at once. One or two cycles of rebooting the system on the infotainment/backup camera display appeared to clear the engine operation problem, but the error messages persisted for several miles and several restarts before they abruptly disappeared. Note that the streets here in florida are very flat, and the weather this week has been mostly hot and humid with little rain. We have about 40,000 miles on the odometer, and the car has been serviced regularly by the local Honda dealer. When this anomalous behavior is not taking place, the car seems to move and accelerate normally. Several other complaints appear to describe the same problem, and some owners report that they have been told that they need new fuel injectors. We have not yet taken our car to the dealer or other mechanic, and the problem has not yet been reproduced by the dealer or anyone other than us. This appears to be a safety issue because a sudden loss of engine power in traffic could be very dangerous. During the malfunction with reduced engine power, I recorded a video of the driver's display which I can provide upon request.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the abs was making an abnormal dinging sound, and there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle went into limp mode, lost motive power, and shut off unintendedly. The failure had gotten worse over time. The contact stated that the failure was related to technical service bulletin: 22-002. The contact called a master mechanic and was informed that the vehicle had gone into limp mode to protect the engine. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors were leaking into the spark plugs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving my Honda crv 2017 on I-65 in birmingham - montgomery area in alabama in March 2024 and suddenly in the middle of the busy highway the vehicle stalled and wouldn’t drive even after stepping on the accelerator a little harder. I then turned on my emergency lights to signal to the behind vehicles that I have and emergency situation became I was in the middle of a busy highway and the vehicle simply wouldn’t drive. I managed to pull aside of the highway and turned the engine off because I didn’t know what the issue was. After a few minutes I started the vehicle again and drove a few miles and the vehicle stalled again. After a couple of repeated cycle, I got the vehicle to a nearby Honda dealership for diagnostic testing which later revealed that the fuel injectors, the head gasket, the turbo system etc were causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle is currently not drivable and has since been with the Honda dealership as I am writing. With taxes, the dealership is charging me approximately $5000 usd to fix this problem, money that I cannot afford. Not knowing what to do, I did a brief research to see if anyone else has experienced this issue before and I found out in the consumer report that other drivers have actually experienced exactly the same issue that happened to my vehicle. I currently do not have any additional vehicle for commuting and I am forced to use rented vehicles with the rental cost accumulating on the daily basis while my vehicle remains with the dealership. I am therefore writing this notification for Honda to look into this potentially risk safety incidence and help Honda crv owners and myself get this problem fixed because such experience doesn’t boost consumer confidence for both current and future Honda crv owners. Thanks.
The oil is mixed with gasoline causing the level the oil to hight or and do not lubricate well because is not oil pure in the engine and I went to DE Honda dealer to change DE oil and report the problem and they say that is normal but the oil was smelling mixed to gasoline and do not lubricate well motive I have to change the oil more frequently .
The car has a warranty that was extended because of camshaft issues. The warranty expired 2023 I bought the car in 2023. The issue started happening in 2024. The car will just stop and not go no matter how much you press the gas. So driving anywhere at any speed the car will just all of a sudden stop. It’s extremely dangerous and obviously it’s a problem that Honda has already recognized.
While driving the car it began to spit and sputter and lost power to the point I had to pull out of traffic to the shoulder, stop, and turn hazard lights on. While there I turned the car off and restarted it. I began to enter back into traffic, got to about 10-15 mph and all of a sudden the car ran choppy and every light came on the dash displaying a problem with every function of the car. My husband works about a mile from where I was so I drove from where it happened to his workplace. From there the phone calls began to obtain a tow to the dealership. Diagnostic results said head gasket was leaking and coolant was fouling the spark plugs. Dealer quoted $5700 for repairs. (25 hours of labor). Around 86,000 miles (10 weeks ago) the same dealership replaced fuel injectors and spark plugs for $1700. Now the 2017 car is just under 90,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, she heard an abnormal rattling sound emanating from the vehicle, after which the vehicle began to shake. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where she observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment, prompting her to turn the vehicle off, after which it would not restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the connecting roads resulting in damage to the engine, requiring a replacement engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.
3 main issues: (July 2023) suddenly when trying to accelerate on the interstate, I could not. I pulled over, turned the car off, and back on, and did not have the problem again for several months. (December 2023) car started to sputter upon turning on. After a minute it ran fine. Continuous problem. (January 2024) every single service light came on. Car would still operate but without cruise control, lane detecting, electric brake and every other feature. Lights remain on and flashing while driving. Still sputtered upon turning on but would stop after a minute. Several times when putting in drive, would not accelerate past 15mph approx). After restarting, the engine would seem to operate fine while all service lights remained on with functions of each not working. One day the car operated fine and did so for several days. Then the problems started again. I took it in for service and the dealer said it was a fuel injector that needed replaced. Waited for a part for 3 weeks and got the needed repairs. When I picked up the car it seemed to operate fine. The next day all problems started it again. It is currently in the shop to look for the cause.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start-up. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 138,140.
For about six months my service lights have been lighting up. For the same amount of time I have noticed that my car begins to "stink" after running for a minute or two. I took it into the dealership and the service advisor states that I have three of four fuel injectors that have failed. I asked the service advisor about the warranty and she states those are not under warranty. I have researched this issue and have found that many many people have had problems with their fuel injectors and Honda will not replace them under warranty. I am sending this complaint because I feel that this issue should be covered under a recall warranty, since it has been noted in other models that the fuel injectors were recalled and repaired. Please help.
All warning lights in car came on. Subsequently had diagnostic testing done. Code p0172 system too rich. Dealer says fuel injector's need replacement. My understanding is this is an issue on other Honda cars manufactured during the same time period as mine and a recall notice was issued for those models.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor inside the cabin of the vehicle after refueling. Additionally, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed; however, the mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic recommended a more extensive diagnostic test be performed by dissembling the engine. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where a coolant leak inside the engine was discovered. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.
I own a 2017 Honda crv ex awd. While driving downhill on a mountain road on Dec. 9, 2023, all of my dashboard warning lights and alarms began flashing and sounding off. Some of the warnings cycled through one after another while others were simultaneous. I continued to drive looking for a safe place to pull over. Going downhill I was able to maintain some speed, but when the road leveled off I found I was unable to accelerate to more than 5-10 miles per hour despite the engine continuing to rev. After pulling over, I stopped the engine for 10 minutes. Upon restarting, the dashboard warnings repeated the same process. At first opportunity, I took the car to a Honda dealership where code dtc p0304 was diagnosed and I was advised that the problem was failure of my fuel injectors. Repairs were made at a cost of more than $2000. Fortunately, this failure did not happen to me on a crowded freeway going at higher speeds as it could have easily created a situation where property damage, injuries, or fatalities could have occurred.
