I was driving my Honda crv 2017 on I-65 in birmingham - montgomery area in alabama in March 2024 and suddenly in the middle of the busy highway the vehicle stalled and wouldn’t drive even after stepping on the accelerator a little harder. I then turned on my emergency lights to signal to the behind vehicles that I have and emergency situation became I was in the middle of a busy highway and the vehicle simply wouldn’t drive. I managed to pull aside of the highway and turned the engine off because I didn’t know what the issue was. After a few minutes I started the vehicle again and drove a few miles and the vehicle stalled again. After a couple of repeated cycle, I got the vehicle to a nearby Honda dealership for diagnostic testing which later revealed that the fuel injectors, the head gasket, the turbo system etc were causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle is currently not drivable and has since been with the Honda dealership as I am writing. With taxes, the dealership is charging me approximately $5000 usd to fix this problem, money that I cannot afford. Not knowing what to do, I did a brief research to see if anyone else has experienced this issue before and I found out in the consumer report that other drivers have actually experienced exactly the same issue that happened to my vehicle. I currently do not have any additional vehicle for commuting and I am forced to use rented vehicles with the rental cost accumulating on the daily basis while my vehicle remains with the dealership. I am therefore writing this notification for Honda to look into this potentially risk safety incidence and help Honda crv owners and myself get this problem fixed because such experience doesn’t boost consumer confidence for both current and future Honda crv owners. Thanks.
The oil is mixed with gasoline causing the level the oil to hight or and do not lubricate well because is not oil pure in the engine and I went to DE Honda dealer to change DE oil and report the problem and they say that is normal but the oil was smelling mixed to gasoline and do not lubricate well motive I have to change the oil more frequently .
The car has a warranty that was extended because of camshaft issues. The warranty expired 2023 I bought the car in 2023. The issue started happening in 2024. The car will just stop and not go no matter how much you press the gas. So driving anywhere at any speed the car will just all of a sudden stop. It’s extremely dangerous and obviously it’s a problem that Honda has already recognized.
While driving the car it began to spit and sputter and lost power to the point I had to pull out of traffic to the shoulder, stop, and turn hazard lights on. While there I turned the car off and restarted it. I began to enter back into traffic, got to about 10-15 mph and all of a sudden the car ran choppy and every light came on the dash displaying a problem with every function of the car. My husband works about a mile from where I was so I drove from where it happened to his workplace. From there the phone calls began to obtain a tow to the dealership. Diagnostic results said head gasket was leaking and coolant was fouling the spark plugs. Dealer quoted $5700 for repairs. (25 hours of labor). Around 86,000 miles (10 weeks ago) the same dealership replaced fuel injectors and spark plugs for $1700. Now the 2017 car is just under 90,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, she heard an abnormal rattling sound emanating from the vehicle, after which the vehicle began to shake. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where she observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment, prompting her to turn the vehicle off, after which it would not restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the connecting roads resulting in damage to the engine, requiring a replacement engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.
3 main issues: (July 2023) suddenly when trying to accelerate on the interstate, I could not. I pulled over, turned the car off, and back on, and did not have the problem again for several months. (December 2023) car started to sputter upon turning on. After a minute it ran fine. Continuous problem. (January 2024) every single service light came on. Car would still operate but without cruise control, lane detecting, electric brake and every other feature. Lights remain on and flashing while driving. Still sputtered upon turning on but would stop after a minute. Several times when putting in drive, would not accelerate past 15mph approx). After restarting, the engine would seem to operate fine while all service lights remained on with functions of each not working. One day the car operated fine and did so for several days. Then the problems started again. I took it in for service and the dealer said it was a fuel injector that needed replaced. Waited for a part for 3 weeks and got the needed repairs. When I picked up the car it seemed to operate fine. The next day all problems started it again. It is currently in the shop to look for the cause.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start-up. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 138,140.
For about six months my service lights have been lighting up. For the same amount of time I have noticed that my car begins to "stink" after running for a minute or two. I took it into the dealership and the service advisor states that I have three of four fuel injectors that have failed. I asked the service advisor about the warranty and she states those are not under warranty. I have researched this issue and have found that many many people have had problems with their fuel injectors and Honda will not replace them under warranty. I am sending this complaint because I feel that this issue should be covered under a recall warranty, since it has been noted in other models that the fuel injectors were recalled and repaired. Please help.
All warning lights in car came on. Subsequently had diagnostic testing done. Code p0172 system too rich. Dealer says fuel injector's need replacement. My understanding is this is an issue on other Honda cars manufactured during the same time period as mine and a recall notice was issued for those models.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor inside the cabin of the vehicle after refueling. Additionally, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed; however, the mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic recommended a more extensive diagnostic test be performed by dissembling the engine. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where a coolant leak inside the engine was discovered. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.
I own a 2017 Honda crv ex awd. While driving downhill on a mountain road on Dec. 9, 2023, all of my dashboard warning lights and alarms began flashing and sounding off. Some of the warnings cycled through one after another while others were simultaneous. I continued to drive looking for a safe place to pull over. Going downhill I was able to maintain some speed, but when the road leveled off I found I was unable to accelerate to more than 5-10 miles per hour despite the engine continuing to rev. After pulling over, I stopped the engine for 10 minutes. Upon restarting, the dashboard warnings repeated the same process. At first opportunity, I took the car to a Honda dealership where code dtc p0304 was diagnosed and I was advised that the problem was failure of my fuel injectors. Repairs were made at a cost of more than $2000. Fortunately, this failure did not happen to me on a crowded freeway going at higher speeds as it could have easily created a situation where property damage, injuries, or fatalities could have occurred.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the abs, forward collision avoidance, and emissions warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who changed the engine oil and updated the engine software. After retrieving the vehicle, the warning lights returned. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that there was fuel inside the engine oil and the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 84,292.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle and the steering wheel was vibrating abnormally. The contact stated that his daughter depressed the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel injection system had failed, and the engine was misfiring. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 113,859.
2017 Honda crv ex 1. 5 turbo with 97483 miles while driving multiple alerts on dash showed up. Obd 2 scanner diagnosed it as p0172. Dealership was informed of the code as dealer code came back the same and diagnose it as failed fuel injectors x4. Showed recall letter dated 7/2019 regarding extended warranty Honda corp. Denied claim.
Gear shift knob button broken. Cheap plastic and fell off.
All warning lights on the dashboard come on and disable numerous safety features. The car will have a rough idle at ignition and will sometimes go into a limp mode and will not accelerate. I have researched the issue and believe it is the fuel injectors. According to my research that is the solution that Honda has for these problems. Honda has also changed the part number of these fuel injectors and the manufacturer. I believe Honda is at fault for putting manufacturer defective fuel injectors in.
In August my 2017 Honda crv started losing acceleration and felt like it was stalling. Every light on the dashboard came on. I brought it to herb chambers in westborough and they fixed the turbo charger, the vehicle was still under warranty so I expected to get the issue fixed. In early December the newly 'fixed' Honda Cr-v started losing acceleration, similar to the previous time. I got the car to the dealership and they fixed the same issue again but charging around 3000$ because now the car wasn’t under warranty. On Saturday January 6th I started up the 2017 Honda crv with the intentions of going to herb chambers in westborough. (10-15 miles). The crv again loses acceleration and check engine light comes on along with every other light in the book. Realizing I was not going to make it to herb chambers, I pulled into a lot to call for aaa (thankfully our 3 year daughter wasn't with me). Aaa tows the car to herb chambers. This time they said it was the spark plugs and herb chambers Honda charged close to another $1,000 for the same issue that should have been fixed in August of 2023. Please see attached Honda documents for your reference. Three times in the span of 4-5 months where the car suddenly goes ‘limp’, on busy highways no mind you, I had to put my hazards on and pray no one hit me, it’s gotten to a point of where there is a known issue and these Honda service departments know this, but still ‘work on your car’, for outrageous sums.
The engine failed and I was stranded 60 miles from home. All the dash lights were blinking and I couldn’t get the parking brake to unlock . It is available for inspection . I was stranded at a service station with another senior citizen for three hours in 100 degree plus weather. We were stranded and our safety was compromised as we waited for help . I had it towed to a dealer 20 miles away . Rented a hotel and got an uber to the car the next morning . The auto repair person examined the car and determined that the turbo fan had disintegrated and was sucked into the engine . After further rested he reported the engine had failed and it would cost $8 000. Many of the lights and sensors suddenly began to blink . The car lost some power but we were able to limp to the gas station . Hello rhonda, here are my technicians findings, due to the metal moving through the oil passages he recommends replacing the engine and turbo "verified engine running rough. Major driveability/safety issue. The vehicle started skipping and jerking on highway I-93 on the new hampshire/ massachusetts line. I was accelerating to 65 mph and merged with traffic, when the car engine began stalling intermittently. The check engine and maintenance indicator lights turned on. As I coasted to the side of the road, the vehicle continued to jerk and slow/speed up.
All alerts on dashboard are active - emission, brakes, hill-assist, auto high-beam, collision mitigation system, etc. Can no longer drive my car safely. Dealer confirmed. The car just had its oil changed and air filter replaced.
All the warning lights activated when I was driving on the highway and the car made a bell noise to alert me. None of the safety features worked on the Honda crv 2017, but I was able to maintain driving the vehicle without it. I took it into tempe Honda service and they said that the code read dtc p0172 and that I needed to replace all the fuel injectors.
My 2017 crv started beginning of this year 2023 one day with all the dash codes lighting up effecting the safety drivability of the vehicle. It would randomly stop accelerating and all driver assist system not functioning properly. Accelerating was dangerous vehicle would stall or hesitate to go and almost caused us to get into an accident. This has been brought to a main Honda dealership in henrietta new york and confirmed that replacing the fuel injectors would solve the problem and that this was an ongoing issue with the Honda crvs. My vehicle was one of many that had been waiting for fuel injectors to be delivered at that shop. Based on other forums and Honda sites how this isn’t a recall is baffling. We waited over a month without our vehicle being fixed and unusable because the part was out of stock. Vehicle is still not fixed and we called all out Honda dealerships in rochester new york today and they all are waiting for fuel injectors for the crvs they have being repaired. I purchased this vehicle known for Hondas reliability but this is extremely disappointing you have customers with Honda brand vehicles that are unusable and unsafe due to a common known issue with the all the dash lights being effected by fuel injectors. This coming from a family of 6 with 4 children. Currently vehicle has been inspected by two auto shops for same issue and replicated codes, and unsafe driving issues with our crv.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the engine idled roughly. The contact stated that all of the warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
The bearing wore out at only 62,839 miles causing sudden and complete engine failure on the highway in the desert near barstow California. We lost power and the car was shaking and spewing blue smoke from the tailpipes. We easily could have been rear ended at 70 mph but somehow managed to get off to the side of the road and at 2 mph make it up an exit ramp. We had to have the car towed 2 hours to a Honda dealership in irvine and it needs a whole new engine. It has been there 17 days (ruining our road trip vacation) and just now is finally getting the new engine. The top of the line $2400 -10 year-120,000 mile extended warranty we bought at purchase is refusing to cover it. The mechanic has found a great deal of metal bits in the oil pan and the number 2 bearing is worn down to the brass like it is a much older car with more miles on it. There were no warning lights on the dash before this happened and the car was not overheating and had plenty of oil and oil life left. This whole experience has been a nightmare. Our north carolina mechanic sent us consumer reports articles about the 2017 and 2018 crv turbo engines having a defect causing gasoline to leak into the oil system, thus reducing the effect of the oil on the bearings and cylinders. This is a serious and dangerous defect. The repairs alone will cost $8000 plus the added food and accommodation expenses, towing costs, and the complete ruining of our vacation.
Three years ago all the dashboard warning lights went on in my car saying everything was wrong with my car 'brake system problem,' power steering problem, hill assist problem, etc. Etc. Etc. I took it to Honda immediately and they had no idea why it was happening. If I spend $4,000 they'll figure it out. Once in a blue moon the lights will magically turn off on its own for two or three days with no problems and then the lights come back on every single time you start the car. 355 days out of the year the lights are on every single time you start the car with no safety features able to work. It's beyond irritating, but it's mostly annoying because when you pay for extra safety features (like lane keep assist) none of them work when the lights are on. None. No brake warning, no lane keep assist, nothing. The car runs fine - people who do the tire rotations can't recalibrate it. So I took it to Honda again last week only to be told it is a problem with the fuel injectors and it's mostly 2017 models because of the new engine look. The fuel injectors weren't made properly to fit the vehicle, and the fact thousands of people have had this exact issue and Honda won't address it or do a recall, is absolutely wrong and disgusting. It's not a cheap fix. I will never buy a Honda ever again.
I bought my crv touring used with 90,000 miles in July of 2022. I’ve had nothing but issues with fuel economy and the car feeling sluggish and held back because it’s not running properly along with getting every warning light on the dash that’s possible when it’s having the issue. P0172 is the code I get and my dealership said it’s the fuel injectors. It is a known and problematic issue that should be resolved by Honda for free because it is faulty. I was quoted $1,388 just to replace the injectors but they’re on back order.
We have experienced 3 episodes where all of the system failure alarm lights have been activated. The battery was replaced and the fuel injectors were cleaned after the first 2 episodes. On may 19, 2023, we were driving on I-5 north 100 miles from home when the warning lights came on. We turned around to return home. The car went into limp mode and could only go 10 mph over the passes. This was dangerous considering the number of trucks traveling on the highway. The following week it was determine that the turbocharger had failed due to a clogged oil filter screen. All of the scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, had been performed by the Honda dealership. There have been reported issues with the engine in the 2017 Honda Cr-v, including oil dilution problems.
I was driving and put on the air conditioner when a decrease in the engine power occurred. Then all the safety features installed on the car rotated on the dashboard, in addition the check engine light and all the other yellow lights were on and there was a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust. I then took it to my mechanic who diagnosed it as a turbo booster failure. It is a safety issue due to my engine could have seize or caused a fire since I was driving on a highway at the time. I found out my extended warranty expired in April, one month before. Also, the mechanic showed me the turbocharger and the turbine wheel was moving around when it was supposed to be in a stationary position.
On major highways with traffic, the car would idle rough before conking out completely, especially upon acceleration. In cases where I needed to accelerate to merge into traffic, it was very scary, unpredictable, and unsafe. All warning display messages came on as well. Two mechanics have looked and the second mechanic stated that there's a common issue with fuel injectors for 2017 Honda crv's. Since it's such a common problem with these cars, the fuel injectors are on a very extended backorder. So, he replaced them with after market injectors and deemed it safe to drive. I drove it to work the next day (again, on a major highway) and the car died again upon acceleration.
Week of April 11th, while driving the car, the vehicle would start to shake and the following warning messages came on as the vehicle would start to decelerate making us drift to the emergency lane avoid getting hit by an oncoming vehicles. The following messages came up on multiple occasions on the panel. (note, we could only select 3 options above so were not able select all of these) 1. Collision mitigation system problem 2. Adaptive cruise control problem 3. Road departure mitigation system problem 4. Electrical parking break problem 5. Tire pressure monitor problem 6. Power steering system (eps) problem the car was inspected by danbury Honda service department, who informed us that it was a blown head gasket. The car is a 2017 purchased in 2020 by danbury Honda dearlership. As we worked primarily from home for the last 3 years, the car was not driven that often and oil changes have been up to date. There have been no signs of leaking or overheating including the temperature gauge not showing any signs of overheating and remained in neutral or below temperature. The danbury Honda service department could not explain how a blow head gasket was possible. We then proceeded to have it inspected by danbury brewster service department week of April 18th, who informed us that it was a spark plug issue. And there was no indication of a head gasket. After spark plug was repaired, the car was being driven with no issues and on may 4th, the incident above happened again (again no overheating or leaking). We went back to Honda brewster who said it was a blown head gasket with no explanation as to how this as possible. We are attaching the service technician inspection report and photos. This has caused anxiety and stress where we are not safe driving the vehicle. Our daughter just recently obtained a license and, thankfully, this did not happen to her. We have been fans of Hondas for many years and between us have owned 4 Honda vehicles.
My wife was driving the car with her 2 friends on highway left lane , all the sudden the engine light flash and the engine was stalling (cannot accelerate). She was driving 55mph before , all the sudden she only can driving 20mph even she gas up. Luckily she was able to pull over to the right lane and parked on the right side zebra lane. Then I went to help my wife I was only 5-10 minutes from where she was. I drove off the highway with 22mph even I gas up (unable to accelerate past 25th). I got out the highway then turn off and on the engine then the light disappeared. Next day we drove then emission system problem light turn on, same turn off and on the engine then the light disappeared. Next day Monday I went to my mechanic and he told me there no light on , come back when the light on. Same day Monday we drove the emissions light turn on again after we drove about 10-15 miles, I went to my mechanic and he told me there problem with the fuel system, the car unable to burn off all the fuel and the fuel get into the engine. There is a problem with the designs on the fuel and injector system and there was a recall in china and service bulletin 19-037. Of course the light turn off after my mechanic change the engine oil which in china Honda performed oil change for life for all the crv which sold in china. My mechanic did the oil change and tell me go to the dealership as soon as possible. So I went to the Honda dealership next day and they told me to pay for the diagnostic but the light not on , it does not make any sense for me to pay $179 and no code since there no light turn on on the dashboard. I told them I just want to fix the problems which stated on the bulletin, but they refused, I spoke to the manager and Honda customer service, they told me same thing, need to diagnose before anything can be done. I suggested the Honda recall all model crv from 2017 to fix the defective design problems before anyone get serious injury. Stalling is a safety iss.
Gasoline leaked past fuel injectors and diluted the oil. Fuel injectors and spark plugs have had to be replaced with oem parts. The problem has been confirmed by an official Honda dealership and by an independent service center. This issue has been repaired twice by a mechanic and has happened a third time. When the issue appeared, check engine light, parking brake, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, forward collision warning lights have turned on. Car disables adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and forward collision detection when issue occurs. The attached file shows the first incident and first inspection at 82,200 miles. The second incident occurred at 103,000. This second incident was the exact same issue.
The lights on the dashboard turn on and off and electrical systems do not work. This has been a continuous issue for over a year.
I demand answers for the issues I have been facing with my vehicle. I have been to multiple dealerships, but none of them have been able to provide a satisfactory solution. The dashboard lights have abruptly turned on, rendering various features such as radio, hvac, power steering, brakes, cruise control, and others useless. Every time we have read the codes, different issues have been identified without any explanation as to why they are happening. It's high time that someone takes accountability for the problem and comes up with a solution.
