The contact owns a 2006 Honda Cr-v. The vehicle was parked and unoccupied when half of the front driver's side interior door panel completely melted. In addition, the front driver's seat as well as the sun visor melted. When the contact entered the vehicle there was no smoke present however black soot appeared on the front driver's side door window glass and gray soot. The front driver's side wiring harness was stuck to the lower plastic door trim. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 11v456000 (electrical system) but the VIN was ineligible for the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. The contact owns a 2002 Honda Cr-v. While driving approximately 60 mph with the low beam headlights activated, the low beam headlights suddenly failed. The dealer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the failure could have been caused by the headlight switch. There was an investigation under NHTSA action number: ea11012 (exterior lighting:headlights:high/low beam dimmer switch electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash exterior lighting:headlights:switch) that could possibly have been related to the failure. 1) after a cold start, the dash gauges swing up and down very rapidly and the dash lights blink on and off very rapidly also. After 5-10 minutes it stops. 2) took the vehicle to a independent Honda repair shop and they diagnosed the problem as a bad muitplex control unit. The repair shop called Honda tech line, they asked if there was a fire? I guess there have been fires related to this problem. 3) parts have been ordered and the repair cost was $644.
While driving at 45mph suddenly fire broke out in the rear over head passenger seat. Dealer inspected vehicle, and could not duplicate or correct the problem.
