1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2016 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving down a small mountain at 50 mph, the contact heard a loud bang as her air bag deployed without incident. Due to the air bag hitting the top of the contact's head, she veered off right shoulder of the road and scraped the bottom oil pan of vehicle. Despite the failure, the contact was able regain control of the vehicle and drive home. Her daughter was contacted and she was taken to the hospital where she was treated for the cut to the top of her head. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and an investigator was sent to yreka motors(1545 s main st, yreka, CA 96097) to inspect the vehicle. The inspector determined that the yard sensor was hit at a thirty degree angle with caused the air bags to deploy. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was 36,000.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

Takata recall car was started in parking lot at mechanic for a misfiring spark plugs. Mechanic placed new spark plugs and a missing coil and car started right up. Car was stationary in lie to be pulled into the bay by mechanic went into his office which was about 75 feet away then heard an explosion. Upon going out to my vechile he noticed the airbags deployed and had exploded for no reason. The side curtain and seat airbags deployed on the drivers side. Car still running was not overheated nor did anyone wasvin the car. Incident occurred on 11/05/2918 was reported to owner auto insurance as an unexplained loss and reported to the Honda manufacture as on issue and a claim number was assigned from both insurance company and Honda manufacturer a claim examiner audited the vechile for loss and Honda manufacturer said they would pay for a diagnosis if it would be brought to a Honda dealer. Car was driven to a local Honda dealer and a specialized no reading could be concluded as the srs was fried Honda the estimate includes srs unit, seat sensors, curtain airbag, drivers side seat back assembly, labor is $1,082. 00 and parts are $3,172. 87 total $4,254. 87 for total repairs. I am waiting on my Honda dpsm rep to give me feedback. Insurance company asked for a forensic mechanic to evaluated or get to root cause of airbags spontaneously exploding through black box as Honda did not include black box till the 2012 models this vechile is a 2005 model hence did not have a black box and no determination was determined for root cause. The vechile being a 2005 13 years old and only had a total of 143,850 miles, body and interior learher sears were in ideal condition. Car should have lasted at least another 100,000 miles car was deemed a total loss and car was scraped. Fact was if I or anyone else would have been in the car it could have caused an fatal accident.

4 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

I purchased this Cr-v new from the Honda dealership in sarassota, FL in Feb 2017. O/s srs light keeps coming on. It is an intermittent problem. When it comes on, it stays on until the car is turned off. This has been going on for at least 3 months. I had started taking pictures of the actual meter panel speedometer with the o/s srs light on every day to show the frequency and magnitude of this issue. On 11/11/17, stored codes were deleted a few times at bradenton, FL dealership with no success. "system operating as designed" is what I was told by Honda dealership. On 11/13 - 11/21/17, o/s srs light came on after codes cleared. Returned to Honda dealership in bradenton, FL. They checked pin fit at air bag connector and srs unit. Continuity was confirmed. No mouse or water damage. Driver's seat air bag was replaced per Honda tech line. The dealership was in possession of our Cr-v during these dates. On 12/13/17, o/s srs light keeps coming on. The bradenton, FL dealership. Scanned for srs codes (same as before, 'b0020-13"), open or increased resistance on the left side. Reviewed data withe tech line and they had dealership replace the srs control unit. Initialized seat weight sensor to verify repair was completed. Tech drove vehicle 85 miles to confirm repair was completed. Tech line ref#4044223 on 12/14/17 the o/s srs light came on still. Due to our vacation from sarasota, FL to ohio for christmas, the bradenton Honda dealership could not provide a loaner for any out of state driving. So, we drove this crv to ohio with the o/s srs light on for 95% of our 2600 mile trip. Negotiated with am Honda and bradenton, FL dealership to bring Cr-v back on 1/8/18. A Honda 'technician specialist' is being flown in from torrence, CA to fix it. My wife and I retired from Honda of America mfg inc with 50 combined years of manufacturing service building Hondas.

5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/25/2016

Takata recall hi my 2007 car-v has the passenger airbag defective and I received a notice from Honda about that. After attempting to contact several dealers in the area only one responded and put my name on the waiting list for the airbag as the part is not available. The dealer denied my request for a replacement loaner car, on the basis the the car can still be driven, and suggested me to call Honda for such request. I contacted Honda on the following days: - 7/25/2016 at 9:30 am - 8/13/2016 at 11:00 am - 8/19/2016 at 9:50 am on all of the above occasion I have been told that a manager would call me but no one did only at the third attempt I have been given a case number=04940077 on all such phone call I have requested : - to replace the passenger airbag or - provide a car loaner while my car is parked and not allowed to be driven because of medical reason as my wife is getting severely sick , when seated in the back , and also because the passenger seat sensor that deactivate the passenger airbag is malfunctioning, not disabling the airbag deployment when no one is seated on it. Honda never called me back, ever. The dealer states that no parts are available to allow the airbag replacement.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

On 11/30/15 our 2013 Honda crv was taken to fox Honda in grand rapids, mi to have the driver air bag and power lock recall repairs performed. On 12/15/15 my daughter was traveling at approximately 50 mph when the truck in front of her slammed on it's breaks but the trailer lights were not working so the crv squarely impacted the rear of the trailer with significant force. The passenger airbag deployed but the driver airbag did not. The radiator, engine and frame were damaged so the car was totaled. We filed complaint #04347205 with Honda explaining that the insurance adjuster and the body shop workers both believed that the air bag should have deployed. After my 3rd call, the Honda representatives were still trying to tell me that there are separate sensors and there are many reasons why one air bag could go off and not the other. I explained that while my daughter was not badly injured, I am concerned that there could be a bigger problem with their air bags and I wished they would take it seriously enough to inspect the car to make sure someone else isn't injured or even killed if there is a general defect.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/21/2013

I was traveling at approx 55 to 60 mph on the fwy. I started to slow down when I saw 2 cars that were at a dead stop in my lane way ahead of me, they just sat there so I hit my brakes harder & my brakes locked up. My car then went out of control and I tried my best to control it. I did manage to keep my car from rolling. My car was going back and forth on 2 wheels on the drivers side and the passengers side. I was also spinning and fishtailing and the back end of my Cr-v (passenger side) hit the back end of the driver side of a sedan in the #3 or #4 lane. That impact sent my Cr-v straight into the cement center divider of the freeway. I hit the center divider head on and went up and it felt like I was going to go over it onto the other side of the freeway but my Cr-v came back down right in front of the center divider with the smashed up bumper facing the center divider. My Cr-v hit the center divider hard enough for my body to bend the steering wheel back. Not one of my 4 air bags went off. I had this Cr-v in the Honda dealer 14 days earlier to repair the airbag recall (I have all of the paperwork detailing this) I have pictures of the injuries from hitting and bending the steering wheel. I also chipped 3 teeth. I have pictures of the airbag sensor and the bent metal around it. The chp officers, tow truck driver, the person that I hit and the body shop personnel all have the same question that do; the airbag should have gone off, why didn't it and why was I injured? I could have been killed. Honda has had several problems with this year and model of Cr-v, yet they do nothing about them. The seat belts, & the airbags definitely malfunctioned. I have had 2 other similar problems with the breaks locking up on me and I think that there may be a problem with the brakes or wheels. This car needs to be looked at. I have never had any problems w/any of my 4 Hondas past.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The srs light (airbag sensor) continued to stay lit on my dashboard while driving. I took it to my Honda dealer (west hills Honda in bremerton, wa) where they informed me they "found" a "code 7-2 in the system", indicating there was an "srs control unit failure". Essentially, the electrical unit that would deploy the airbags had failed, which meant I no longer had the potential use of my vehicles airbags in case of an accident. The cost for a new part was $659. 95, labor an additional $100. 00, which meant a bill close to $800. 00 with tax. Far beyond my retirement income to handle. It would seem to me this is a safety related issue, similar to a seat belt problem (which Honda would take care of for free). This srs control unit rarely fails, they told me. It certainly was not due to my negligence or lack of attention to proper maintenance. It would seem to me that since this is a potential safety issue, and was not caused by negligence by the owner of the vehicle, this should be covered by Honda. Otherwise, myself and my family are at risk driving this vehicle. I could certainly use your help in convincing Honda to replace this faulty unit. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

16 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/17/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Cr-v. The contact was exiting a residential driveway at approximately 1 mph when he slightly hit a low curb which was lower than three inches, when the drivers airbag suddenly deployed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that the airbag sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000. Updated 02/28/12 updated 03/26/12.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/16/2011

In sept 2009 at approximately 58,500 miles, srs light came on and stayed on while driving. Light turned off after powering car on and off again. Per owners manual, took car to family Honda dealer in rancho santa margarita, California to investigate (presumably under Hondacare no deductible extended warranty). Service tech found trouble code 81-43, and reinitialized/ recalibrated the passenger seat weight sensor (opds) and charged me $95 due to the diagnosis not being covered by Hondacare without a diagnosed hardware failure. September 2011, approximately 95,000 miles: srs light came on again, and remained on after subsequent power on, power off cycles. Approximately one day later (and several power cycles later), the light turned off. Two weeks later, the light came on again, but went out the following power on/off cycle. Light has not come on again. There is no cover on the passenger seat and I do not use it for storage when driving.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/31/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Honda crv. When the contact started the ignition, the front passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated. The warning indicator would illuminate until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the failure was contributed to the air bag sensor. The part was unavailable and on back order. The contact had concern of the uncertainty of the arrival date for the part and the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 120. The VIN was unavailable.

19 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/19/2009

I am the owner of a 2008 Honda crv. After a minor accident, I was told by the Honda service in December 2009 that I needed to replace airbag sensors and my driver's side seat belt buckle. Subsequently, the driver's side seat belt became stuck 3/4 out and I was told that it needed to be replaced. The dealer then told me that it could not obtain the part from american Honda. This fact was confirmed by another dealer. The dealer then stated that the part might be available on January 13, then postponed until January 23 and now postponed until February 3. The driver's side seat belt is a basic part required for the safe operation of the vehicle. The Honda crv is one of that company's most popular models. I and I am sure others are left with cars that cannot be safely driven. This is an outrageous situation.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/04/2008

Repeated mechanical failures of the 2002 Honda crv that I bought brand new have been occurring since August of 2002. The car was bought in July of 2002. The odor from the inside cabin filter first occurred in August. The fuse to the warning devise that would alert the driver to lights being left on, etc. Went out within 3-4 months. Then major items which had to be replaced: differential, 2004(though still under warranty, Honda refused to replace it for 2 years), neck of fuel tank broke, 2006, air conditioning system, 2007, driver-side window fell off track because the plastic clamp cracked, 2008, catalytic converter, 2009, O2 sensor, 2009, driver's seat unstable since 2003, srs slowly went out beginning with intermittent warnings about side door air bag being turned off beginning in 2003 which dealerships ignored as just an occurence from something or someone bumping against the closed door from the inside. Finally in 2008, when the light came on to stay, I was told that it was a failure of the sensor motor__now my problem to again pay for a major repair.

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/16/2008

The srs light came on in my 2004 Honda crv. I visited the local Honda dealer. Dealer advised srs light came on due to faulty opds(occupant position detection system) sensor. This sensor will turn off/on passenger airbag. This item is not covered outside the 3yr/36000 mi warranty. However, many 2002-2004 Honda crv's were given a warranty extension for this problem. The extension covered up to 150,000 miles or 10 years. Honda checked my VIN against their database and advised my vehicle was not affected. My vehicle has approx. 51,500 miles and will be 4 yrs old in October. The dealer advised if I desired the repair, it would be at my expense. I chose not to have the vehicle repaired at this time. I have searched the internet and have found other owners with the same complaints with this opds sensor. This opds system is not limited to the crv line; it is also found on many other Honda vehicles. There are other years and makes which were given the warranty extension. I believe there is a problem with the opds system, and all equipped vehicles should be given the warranty extension. This system is installed as a safety feature and should not be subjected to the same warranty as the rest of the vehicle.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/13/2007

With 62,000 miles on my 2002 Cr-v, the srs light came on and stays on. Having had the same problem with a 2000 accord and a 2000 Acura tl I know that the problem I a failed sensor system and the cost will approach $700. Honda has a problem with their srs and I consider it an extreme safety issue. Honda continues to stonewall the problem and simply denies the problem is theirs. You people have no clout to make them do anything so the only answer is to stop buying Honda products. I hereby promise to never by another Honda product. I've already replaced the Acura with a Toyota avalon, and the accord with a Toyota camry. I will replace the Cr-v with something other than a Honda.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/11/2007

The srs light came on , indicating that the restraint system failed. A safety concern for us. Honda replaced a connector in the steering wheel.

24 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/06/2006

Air bag sensor under right front seat not working properly. This was found when the dealership insisted I call in my insurance company to look at dampness in the car. I haven't had any resolution to the dampness/mold/mildew issue and no one has addressed the air bag sensor, other than a verbal notification from my insurance company. I've followed what the dealership has suggested in regards to the dampness/mold/mildew - removed the mats (right front was wet underneath with mold), keep the a/c on exterior circulation when the car is closed up & had the car detailed. . . None of which has solved the problem. They want me to guarantee payment of over $4000 to have the carpet removed, car 'dried' out & carpet replaced.

31 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1997 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/29/2004

On June 29, 2004, my wife was involved in a minor fender bender in burbank. This was a low-speed, rear-end collision that should have resulted in both drivers exchanging insurance information and going their separate ways. Instead, I received an hysterical phone call from my wife, who was being treated by paramedics for severe shock and burns to her face and arms. We spent the next 6 hours in the emergency room at st. Josephs hospital. The sole cause of these injuries was the improper deployment of both airbags in her 1997 Honda Cr-v. Immediately following the accident, paramedics thought her nose might have been broken by the deploying airbag, which had also caused abrasions on her face and lacerations inside her mouth. This morning, she is being treated at the grossman burn center, in van nuys, and we have just learned that she may have to undergo surgery for a skin graft on her right hand. After speaking with several attorneys on the subject, I have learned that automakers, such as american Honda, make it all but impossible to obtain legal representation for any potential lawsuit by simply making it too expensive to sue. Law firms are not willing to invest the $50k to $100k required for this kind of litigation unless there is the potential for a six-figure award. Since my wifes wounds will eventually heal, with some scarring to her arms, any award in a jury trial would probably not meet that standard. For that reason, lawyers wont consider taking on her case. It appears to be common practice for automakers to install airbags that routinely deploy in low-speed collisions. It also seems to be common practice for those same automakers to ignore people who have been injured in these otherwise minor mishaps, and provide zero compensation for the pain and suffering victims have endured.

32 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 1997 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/01/2004

The srs (air bag) light in my 1997 Honda crv has been on for last 4 years. I have taken it to different dealers during this time. They initially just reset the light. Later they suspected one of the sensors. Even later one of dealer changed the battery. Finally they have declared that the srs controller unit must be bad and should be changed at the cost of $825. I have contacted America Honda corp but to no help. From the independent maintenance shop where I took my car I have learned that it is a common problem in crv. Air bag are essential safety equipment and should carry longer warranty. Honda diagnostic doesn't seem to give definite code also and hence the dealers can't fix it in one shot and have given me so many runs and now will cost me so much. I believe Honda should live up to their responsibility and investigate the srs problem.

33 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/16/2004

The front air bag sensor has failed in this car and the srs light remains on.

34 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/20/2002

The srs light came on so I contacted the dealer. They replaced the sensor. I haven't had anymore problems with it, but it was only 4 days ago. I have been reading other problems with the srs light and I am concerned that this is gonna be an ongoing problem. I am worried that the air bags won't deploy if I am in an accident. As for the brakes. I keep hearing a popping noise every time I back out of a parking space or the driveway. I have not contacted the dealer, but after reading other complaints, I am going to do this. I have always been a dedicated Honda lover and I am disappointed to hear about all that is wrong with the vehicle I have purchased with my hard earned money. Dt.
