Upon taking this vehicle in for its 90,000 mile maintenance service, the Honda certified mechanics informed us that the power steering rack was leaking fluid and would not pass new york state safety inspection. The exact mileage of the car was at 91653. We had to replace the rack system at a cost to us of over $1,000. 00. This system failure should not have occurred at this stage of the car's life. I would like an investigation initiated to see if a recall is warranted. Some online research has shown me that other 2011 crv owners have experienced this exact same problem.

A few months later during a routine oil change, the mechanic noticed a power steeeing fluid leak and said the rack and pinion was leaking and replacing it was the recommended repair. The vehicle currently has 62,000 miles on it and the repair including alignment is around $1,250. My online research has revealed this issue is not isolated.

8 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/10/2017

The high-pressure power steering hose is leaking fluid, dropping to the hot engine and the belts. I think it is more pronounced when the car is in motion. I have had the car checked out in a Honda dealership near me because of a new noise arising from the engine compartment probably from the belts contaminated with the steering fluid. When I went online under Honda recall, the very specific item the high-pressure power steering hose was under recall for many models of Honda because of potential fire hazard. The Honda of America told me that although the other models had recall for this item, the crv is not one among them. I'm assuming that the same defective product is used in many models including crv and therefore, Honda should replace this defective item with potential for fire hazard from crv and possibly other models.

9 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

I bougho my crv in December 2013 and service the car regularly every 3-4 months. The power steering fluid is leaking and the steering wheel tightens each turn and makes the car unsafe to drive. The dealership where I service the car told me the earliest they can look at it is in 5 days and to just keep putting power steering fluid. The inside front light does not work when opening the door, you need to push it. The key does not unlock the doors properly and the theft alarm triggers on for no reason at all. Since this is my only vehicle, I'm frustrated with the problems and it is becoming expensive to repair especially when I service it regularly. You would think the dealership would tell me of these problems.

Took my 2008 Honda crv in for "takata recall" and was told that my car with 73027 odometer reading, steering rack has oil fluid leaks / seepage and will cost $1916. 12 to fix. A/c compressor is also out $1200 to fix which would have been covered if it had gone out before June 2015. Read on line that it was not if this compressor would go out but when, because Honda knew their was a problem with the compressor. The compressor and this steering oil leak should have been a recalled. These are dangerous problems and I can't afford to get this fix, I called Honda's head office and they refused to help me.

12 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/10/2016

Power steering fluid leaking badly in many 08 Honda crvs. It is clearly a fire hazard. Needs to replace the power steering rack as a whole. The vehicle veers to certain direction despite if the new tire and alignment. Potential accident down the line.

13 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

After noticing a whining noise coming from the engine compartment I began to experience difficulty controlling the steering wheel during turns at any speed. After a day or two it became worse and much louder. A straining noise could be heard every time the wheel was turned whether in motion or at rest. I topped off the power steering fluid until I could get to the dealership, but the leak is so bad it only stays full for 24 hours. There were several times that week where turning was difficult and erratic as if the wheel was not wanting to steer in the direction I was pointing it. Brought to rick hendrick Honda of charleston south carolina and was told the same as the other 50 complaints reported to the NHTSA. The power steering fluid is leaking onto engine belts that now need to be replaced. That the power steering hose, pump, switch, and various steering parts need replacement. Total cost? 1200 dollars parts and labor. This is a safety concern. Hazards are loss of control of steering while driving. Leaking flammable power steering fluid on to high temp surfaces (catalytic converter). This is not normal wear and tear this is a manufacturer defect that should be addressed and resolved by Honda or their dealerships at no cost to the owner.

Power steering rack leaks Honda Cr-v 2008. I bought Honda with 92,000 miles in Jan 2015 from a ed morse Honda in florida in may 2015 this same dealer told me that power steering rack leaks and need to be replaced at the cost of $ 1,426. 37. No any evidence of leaking fluid on the ground. Now I live in maine and my Honda did not pass inspection test - one of the reason is power steering rack leaks. Thank you. .

22 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/06/2015

Noticed a whining sound while driving commonly associated with power steering control pump problems. Also noticed fluid leak spots on my garage floor when problem first started. We took the car in to the local Honda dealer to have it checked out & was told that the power steering hose was corroded as well as the "transmission" hose had rusted. We found it very unusual that a power steering hose would corrode given the fact that we bought the Honda new and it had been recently serviced and inspected at the cost of over $500. 00 last year. The Honda dealer found leaking power steering pressure hose and also replaced the cooler line which was too rusted. The cost for this repair was $762. 46!! we don't know if Honda used inferior quality hoses but it sure seems like it because I never had to replace my power steering hose for my 1994 Toyota pickup truck & have never had a problem remotely related to "corrosion" or "rusting" according to the Honda technician's service report. We were one of those customers that have a problem with the rear door actuator which will be repaired under a recent recall notice we received last week. This would have cost us $250. 00 to have the actuator problem fixed if we hadn't been notified!!.

23 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

24 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

During a routine state inspection, the shop mechanic said power steering fluid was leaking and he believed it to be the rack and pinion. Over the next week, the steering wheel became abnormally difficult to maneuver . The vehicle was taken to the mechanic where they stated that there was a leak from the rack and pinion, which needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 25,580.

25 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

2002 Honda crv: I was making a turn from a stop light, into the freeway on ramp, and I heard a loud gear dragging sound from the engine compartment. I lost power steering and the car and it was pulling to the right. I immediately attempted to pull over just as I was ascending on to the on ramp, however the engine stalled and smoke was visible coming from the engine bay before I could safely pull over to the shoulder. I had to put the gear on neutral and push the car to the shoulder. It was nerve racking with my wife and two kids in the car. I noticed that fluid was leaking underneath the car. I inspected all the fluid levels and realized that it was from an air conditioner compressor failure, which caused the accessory belt to drag and stall the engine. The vehicle restarted but ac was not functional.

26 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

27 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

The 2008 Honda crv has issues with the power steering system. ~3 years after I purchased the new car, I was told by Honda express service that the power steering fluid level was low when I was doing oil change. But the dealership couldn't identify a leak. When the vehicle was 6 years old, the leak finally showed up, and the whole rack&pinion needs to be replaced. Of course, the fluid is flammable. The slow leak doesn't show up till a certain amount has been gathered, which makes it a fire hazard not easy to identify. Dealer says it's a common issue, but Honda never admitted it, not to say a recall on the problematic seal.
