Steering Failed Problems of Honda CR-V

Steering rack replaced about 3-1/2 years ago probably around 50,000 miles (est) . Was told today needs second replacement at around 86,000 miles. This means steering rack will have failed twice.

Recently on the visit to Honda dealer for air bag recall replacement the service advisor told me that my rack and pinon steering on the vehicle was leaking. I was surprised as the vehicle has been well maintained and not abused. It also has less than 98k on it. A search online shows that numerous other Honda 2008 Cr-v owners have noted a similar problem and this seems to be a common occurrence on this model which I believe warrants a recall for Honda to repair at their expense. Failure of this part would lead to sudden loss of steering and I feel this is a safety issue. The contact owns a 2016 Honda Cr-v. While driving 10 mph and making a right turn, the steering failed and the power steering indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to Honda of ithaca (315 elmira rd, ithaca NY, 14850) where it was diagnosed that rodents had eaten the soy based wiring. The contact stated that the wiring and rack needed to be replaced and the codes needed to be cleared. Additionally, the contact was advised to purchase mouse magic, peppermint candy, and moth balls to repel the rodents. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 10,911.

The steering wheel failed to return to its position after a turn was made. The consumer had to apply force to get the steering wheel to drive straight. When going around curves and corners, the wheels occasionally hang in the direction of the turn and would not return. This occurred when the vehicle was cold.
