1 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/12/2026

Steering sticks/locks while driving requires excessive input. Feels like the lane departure is controlling the steering and fighting you for control. There is a recall for the same issue but our VIN is not included. Honda needs to re-evaluate to expand recall as this appears to apply to more than the original recalled VIN’s.

2 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/10/2026

Steering wheel sticks moving wheel left or right while driving allowing over correction and dangerous situations. No lamps. Mechanical. Same issue for 23-25 models with recall. Yes it's available for inspection. No professional has confirmed it yet because frankly , I shouldn't have to pay for this , but I need to take it in this week. The 'incident' occurred the last week and a half , but the website only allows me to choose one day. Note. Problem is getting worse.

3 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/09/2026

My steering wheel has been sticking and it can be very scary when it happens. The Honda dealership just quoted us 4,700 to replace the steering rack. We bought our car brand new, no issues or accidents, and only has 44,000 miles. Upon research this exact problem is a big issue with similar year / makes and models but our specific VIN has no recall for this. Very upsetting.

4 Steering problem of the 2024 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/06/2026

My 2024 Honda crv was part of the recall for potential steering gearbox issues. Recall repair took place on 4/2/2025. Steering problem has persisted ("sticky steering") and when I had the steering checked today (5/6/2026) during a regular maintenance appointment, I was notified entire steering gearbox assembly should be replaced. Upon further research I discovered this is an ongoing issue 2023-2024 Honda models due to improperly assembled gearbox components. The recall repair included a new spring and additional grease to the worm gear. This was clearly insufficient and the recall should include complete replacement of the steering gearbox assembly with a properly manufactured unit. I have included via upload copies of the recall repair and diagnosis of the problem and associated cost from today's regular maintenance.

5 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/29/2026

Sticky steering. . . Steering get's slightly stuck then it takes a little more effort to turn the wheel causing the wheel to turn too much sometimes to get it back on course. . . Same problem that has been recalled on other models but for some reason not a recall on my 2018 with only 67000 miles.

6 Steering problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/28/2026

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Cr-v- difficulty steering wheel, drives a little stiff. Lane assist malfunctioning, cruise control malfunctioning. The vehicle was previously taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an issue related to NHTSA campaign number 24v744000 (steering). The contact stated the issue persisted. The dealer was contacted again that the issue had reoccurred but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

7 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/27/2026

My 2018 Honda Cr-v lx (approx. 40,920 miles) has an electric power steering (eps) rack that sticks and catches at highway speeds, typically above 35 mph. The steering wheel requires extra force to turn, then suddenly releases, creating a snap/lurch effect. This behavior poses a significant overcorrection risk during highway lane changes and gradual curves. There were no warning lights or messages prior to or during the problem. The issue presented gradually and has been consistent above the noted speed threshold. A Honda dealership diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed the fault. Their process included a test drive to reproduce the sticking, reproduction while stationary, and further confirmation with the vehicle lifted — turning the steering wheel by hand with the wheels off the ground. In that condition, the technician heard and identified clicking and popping from inside the rack, isolating the fault to the eps rack assembly itself. The dealer's written recommendation is replacement of the eps rack at a cost of $3,917. 31 plus tax. The component is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or the manufacturer beyond the dealership visit described above. I am aware that NHTSA has previously investigated eps gearbox faults on related Honda platforms involving worm gear/worm wheel defects, and that TSB 23-037 was issued for 2022–23 civics describing an identical symptom. I believe my 2018 Cr-v is affected by the same underlying defect. No repair has been performed at this time.

8 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/27/2026

Hello. We purchased this 2018 Honda Cr-v new in 2018 from the local Honda dealer, Honda of lake jackson, TX. In the spring of 2025 the a/c stopped working. We took it to a local shop and they had to replaced the following: blower motor replaced, blower motor replaced, a/c evaporator replaced, a/c expansion/orifice valve replaced, heater core replaced. This was around a $3,000 repair. A month or so later in may of 2025 we took the car to the Honda dealer because of steering instability issues. We were advised that the entire steering column would need to replaced due to known safety issues (drive shaft can fail completely at highway speeds). The following was repaired at this time: --rack and pinion replaced, steering gear replaced, valve cover gasket replaced vehicle was at 61,984 miles at this time. This was a $5,000+ repair. It cost so much that we actually had to take out financing to pay it, which in essence essentially renewed our car payment (car was already paid off at this time). Now for the past 8 months or so we have had a "juddering" issue where you can feel the transmission ctv system jump and jerk as you accelerate to highway speeds. This issue also puts the entire transmission at risk of failure. The Honda dealer here checked the vehicle out and suggested we do a transmission fluid swap. This cost $189 for the "diagnostic fee" and $179 for the swap. So another nearly $400. They did the swap and said that it did not fix the issue and now we need to pay $2800 to have the "torque convertor" replaced. This is $10,000 plus dollars in repairs, nearly half to cost of the vehicle. This is a ridiculous amount of issues for a vehicle that had only 61,000 miles. We have always had regular maintenance performed also. From what I have read, Honda knows about these issues but has not issued a recall. In addition I've read that "juddering" ctv issue is a known issue in 2015-2018 Honda Cr-v's. Needless to say we are not happy with Honda about any of this.

9 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/24/2026

While driving, the steering can stick momentarily and cause a jerking of the steering wheel. When taking the vehicle to the Honda dealer, the recall for this issue only covers 23-25 Cr-v vehicles and since there are no warning lights or codes for it, their recommendation is to drive the vehicle until it gets worse. The jerking of the wheel can cause loss of control and makes the vehicle a hazard.

10 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/23/2026

Approx 2nd week of March, steering wheel began to have 1” play both left and right. Scheduled an appt although there were no warning/indicators illuminated. The day before appt, while traveling at approx 30 mph, applying brakes and coming to a stop, the vehicle began to make a rumbling sound near the engine. On the same day traveling up hill about 40 mph, applying gas, sounded like scraping noise from the front of the vehicle. I transport my 2 grandsons (8,9) most days and this was a major highway, remote area, no nearby homes and a very narrow shoulder. I was fortunate to make it to a family house and had the vehicle towed to the island Honda. Honda confirmed that the steering rack is shot and not safe to drive. Stating the part is on back order and in the manufacturing stage. Vehicle only has 46,396 miles.

11 Steering problem of the 2020 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/22/2026

Noticed problems with steering the vehicle. Initially the was not smooth when driving or turning and the steering would go through a very brief but light indecisive bump this problem started a week ago and has become worse. Plan to take car to dealer for diagnostics. Called Honda corporate and it looks like they may assist me with this.

12 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/22/2026

The contact owns a 2021 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving and turning, the steering wheel was sticking and failed to return to the center as intended. The contact stated that the failure progressively worsened, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be test-driven, and the dealer determined that the steering rack and pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

13 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/20/2026

Electronic power steering failure.

14 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/17/2026

Steering wheel feels sticky, heavy and not always returns to center. Increased steering effort makes it harder to steer increasing the risk of a crash. Honda dealer indicated my vehicle was not under recall and would cost approximately $3000 to fix the steering rack.

15 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/16/2026

"sticky or notchy" feeling in steering wheel. As described in Honda service bulletin 23-037 no person was at risk. Problem was able to be reproduced by the dealer. No vehicle warning lamps were illuminated. Dealer performed the actions of the recall of the newer vehicles, to this vehicle. The repairs fixed the issue.

16 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/16/2026

Steering seems to feel "sticky" while driving on highways straight. Steering wheel seems to stay in place until I tug just a little on wheel to bring the wheel to correct position.

17 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/16/2026

While driving my 2021 Honda Cr-v at highway speeds, the steering intermittently binds and becomes difficult to move, creating a dangerous “sticky steering” condition. The steering will momentarily resist normal input, and when I apply additional force to correct it, the wheel suddenly releases, causing the vehicle to jerk or swerve within the lane. This makes it difficult to maintain smooth, controlled steering and creates a serious safety concern, especially at higher speeds where precise steering is critical. The condition is unpredictable, unnerving, and significantly affects my confidence in safely operating the vehicle. This defect creates an especially concerning hazard because I frequently transport my two young grandchildren in this vehicle. When the steering binds and then abruptly releases, it compromises my ability to maintain stable lane control and increases the risk of losing control or being involved in a collision. This is not merely an inconvenience—it is a clear safety issue that makes the vehicle feel unsafe to drive. The symptoms my vehicle is experiencing are identical to those described in recall 24v-744 involving sticky steering in Honda vehicles. Although my VIN is not currently included in that recall, this same defect has been widely reported by other 2021 Honda Cr-v owners. I understand the defective steering gearboxes were identified in vehicles produced beginning in February 2021, and my vehicle was manufactured in August 2021, which falls within that timeframe. Based on the identical symptoms and known defect history, I believe my vehicle is affected by the same steering gearbox issue and should be included in the investigation and recall population.

18 Steering problem of the 2024 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/15/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while attempting to make a left or right turn, there was a dragging sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 24v744000 (steering); but the repair failed to fix the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had occurred after the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,307.

19 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/13/2026

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60-65 mph, the steering wheel was sticking. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

20 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/11/2026

When driving long distance (car is warmed up), and taking a left turn or a left curve on freeway, the steering wheel sticks, and does not return to center. When doing it manually, there is a popping sound before it returns to center. Its the same thing when taking the car out of parking lot after it is standing there overnight. This is not the first time this happened, as it has happened many times before but we assumed it is the tires going bad.

21 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/09/2026

When I am driving at highway speeds, my steering wheel sticks. I can't make small, smooth adjustments. The steering wheel pops loose and then over corrects. I have noticed this a little bit in the past, but lately it has gotten worse.

22 Steering problem of the 2024 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/05/2026

The contact's brother owned a 2024 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while her brother was driving at approximately 54 mph as he turned the steering wheel to the left to follow the road, the steering wheel locked up and stayed turned to the left. The contact stated that her brother crashed into the highway barrier. The contact stated that her brother had a passenger in the back seat. The contact stated that the air bags deployed, the contact stated that her brother was concussed and was taken to the hospital by ambulance along with the passenger. The contact stated that the police were on scene and wrote a report, however he was not given the report number and was not sure if the police were state troopers. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact had researched online that the vehicle had an open recall NHTSA campaign number: 24v744000 (steering). The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

23 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/04/2026

2022 Honda crv with 39,000 miles: when driving at high speeds (55+) when coming out of a turn/curve in the road, the steering wheel sticks/grabs for a split second, then releases, making steering seem unsafe. Issue seems more likely to happen in warmer temperatures 60 degrees and above. Also gets worse if car is driven for longer time. Since first noticing the issue in early April, now sometimes even going straight, the wheel will grab and steering has to be corrected. No warning lights have come on. The dealer said it is the steering rack.

24 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

My 2021 Honda Cr-v touring model, with around 59000 miles on the odometer, has developed a problem in which the steering wheel gets "stuck" and resists being turned. Then, when more force is applied to turn the wheel, the steering mechanism suddenly "lets go", and this is accompanied by a clunking sound from the front of the vehicle. I first noticed this a few weeks ago, and at first the resistance and noise was barely noticeable. However, since then, the degree of resistance and volume of the clunking sound have been steadily increasing. This has prompted me to get the problem diagnosed and repaired ASAP before it becomes more than just a distraction (I have an appointment with a dealier). Meanwhile, I've done some web research about the issue, and found a Honda news release dated October 9, 2024 that announces a recall for a steering problem with symptoms that exactly match the problem my Cr-v is exhibiting. The same goes for the NHTSA "part 573 safety recall report 24v-744", which describes precisely the same symptoms. Unfortunately, the safety recall only covers 2023 through 2025 Honda Cr-v's, so repairs to my 2021 Cr-v is not covered. However, it seems very likely that my vehicle does have the same issue. Accordingl, I am reporting this to the NHTSA to (1) provide a data point that may help in establishing the prevalence of this issue, and (2) encourage further research by nhsta as to whether an expansion of the recall is warranted. I am also concerned about owners of vehicles that are not covered by the recall having to bear the repair costs. I will get it repaired one way or the other, but I'm certain that many others would be discouraged by the cost and choose not to have it repaired. Thank you for your attention to and actions taken regarding this matter.

25 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

Difficulties with steering for a month, progressively getting worse and did not present dashboard warnings. A grabbing sensation and clicking noise occurs in steering wheel while turning when driving both high and slow speeds. Certified dealer service center able to replicate the problem. They provided me with a copy of a service bulletin issued in September 2024 on the problem but stated there’s no active recall for my VIN and thus would cost $4700. I had to sign off releasing them of any liability before driving away as I chose not to get the costly repair at this time. Was told to drive it as little as possible the car is fairly new and only 86k in mileage. There are various documented sources for a similar problem that qualifies as a recall for several other models including mine but a different year. This is clearly a safety concern leaving the consumer with a hefty repair cost just to feel safe.

26 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/01/2026

We are experiencing “sticky steering” issue that has been recalled in 2023-2025 Honda crv yet ours does not seem to have a recall at this time. Driving down the highway on curves car needs to be pulled back as it does not go back to neutral on it’s own this issue affects our safety as well as our passengers and other vehicles around us.

27 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/01/2026

This vehicle is a 2019 Honda Cr-v with less than 70,000 miles on it. Which is less than 10,000 miles a year. The steering wheel consistently sticks, gets jammed, or even locks while driving. The experience is mostly felt while making turns while driving. After taking into Honda of kirkland in kirkland, wa the service team confirmed that the rack and pinion need to be replaced. My safety, my family, and any other individual who is in the car while driving are and have been at risk since the steering wheel sticks and locks and is not operating correctly. Confirmed, the problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the Honda of kirkland service team. The vehicle has been inspected by the service team at Honda of kirkland. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the issue occurring. The problem started about a year or so ago and has progressively gotten worse over time. The vehicle has maintenance done on a regular basis and has never been in an accident. Honda of kirkland and american Honda motor CO. , inc. Have denied a goodwill repair for this issue. Any help will certainly be appreciated.

28 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/01/2026

Steering wheel ‘catches’ when moderately making sharp turns. It catches, then releases.

29 Steering problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/01/2026

Steering gets "sticky". Brought car to Honda dealer and just by test driving the car they want $6000 to replace bad bearings, steering motor and gearbox. No diagnostic test was done or parts looked at physically. I brought car to a local mechanic who also test drove car and did a diagnostic test and they said the steering motor and gearbox are fine and said nothing wrong with car. Honda has had recall on 2017-2018 crvs due to faulty steering mechanism. This is obviously a known Honda safety issue since Honda dealer knew what problem was just by test driving car and known recall. Why is my car not covered even though Honda said it's out of warranty? which mechanic do I believe? can local mechanic diagnostic test pick up the problem as outlined in Honda recall with magnet issue? I don't want to drive an unsafe car yet Honda wants $6k and I don't know for sure if there's a safety issue.

30 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/31/2026

For the past year my steering wheel gets stuck or feels sticky. Especially when I am driving at higher speeds of 45mph or above. It happens more so when the temperature outside is warmer or I have been driving on the highway. When I turn the wheels left to go around a curve, the wheel will stay when I go to return the wheel to center. It causes my car to bounce back and forth and be very shaky. I have had it in the dealership multiple times for the issue and they "cannot" replicate the issue. They claim the tire pressure is low (which it is not) or the clock spring needs replaced. This has happened for over a year.

31 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/31/2026

Steering wheel feels sticky or like it catches when going at higher speeds, particularly on long distances. Dealer has confirmed to replace the power steering rack (which includes the steering gear box/worm gear). The gear box/worm gear was part of a previous recall but only for 2023-2025 crvs although this issue was being reported beginning in 2021.

32 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/23/2026

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and turning the steering wheel to the left or the right, the steering wheel failed to return to center. The contact was constantly making steering corrections while driving in a straight line because the steering wheel was turning independently to the left while driving. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,500.

33 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/23/2026

2022 Honda crv with 12500 miles on the odometer has rack and pinion problems. Dealer indicates internal wear. There is a recall # 24v-744 which may apply. Dealer vehicle service was prepared on March 23, 2026.

34 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/21/2026

Sticking steering, mainly at higher speeds. Dealer said it showed no codes. They said they could not make it do it, but it continued after inspection. I had another person drive and they noticed right off on the interstate that the steering was sticking and making vehicle shift across lane on its own. It does it all the time at any speed more noticeable higher speeds.

35 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/19/2026

The steering hasn’t completely failed but it is not operating correctly. The steering wheel feels like it’s stuck in a detent or notch when going straight and takes a little bit of force to turn it left or right to make minor corrections. Then the change of direction is sudden not gradual, possibly impacting me and the traffic around me. It feels like I’m fighting against the lane departure system but there are no warning lights coming on . When it moves out of the “notch” the steering feels somewhat heavy. This, so far, has been an intermittent issue, but a very disturbing one. I’ve been to the dealership with it but everything seems normal when I go in. This all started at just over 42,000 miles. Everything points to the electronic rack and pinion beginning to fail, as hundreds of 2017- 2019 Cr-v owners have indicated. There seems to be a system failure on these cars. A very important system but no recall from Honda???.
