1 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/24/2026

I am having trouble with a sticky steering. The dealer told me that the part I need was recalled on other 2018 Honda crv‘s, but mine was not under the recall. He said I need the steering rack replaced. He also said that there are a lot of others having the same problem and yet there has been no for the recalls. My gearbox is the same as the ones that were recalled but mine wasn’t recalled. Therefore, I am having to pay a lot of money to have this replaced.

2 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/24/2026

2019 Honda crv steering problem -- steering binding at highway speeds; ratcheting feeling. Possibly worm gear spring defect. I must constantly tug at my steering wheel to keep the SUV in my lane at speeds over 50 mph. I've mentioned this to my dealer two times now and they don't seem to know about the problem. There is a recall for this on other Honda models -- why hasn't a recall been announced for the 2019 crv???.

4 Steering problem of the 2023 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/19/2026

2023 Honda Cr-v, purchased new in Mar 2023 from friendly Honda, poughkeepsie, NY. All regular service completed at lia Honda, brewster, NY. On [xxx], car was driven without incident and parked inside a garage. On [xxx] upon ignition, car immediately displayed a “christmas tree” of warnings for every major system, including but not limited electric power steering, awd, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, hill descent, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance. Behavior has continued every time the car is started. Car remains drivable, but all safety and driver assistance systems are disabled. In addition, on [xxx] and [xxx], after stopping at a stop sign, car had very limited power and could only accelerate to 30 mph on a flat road and 20 mph on an incline. Problem was resolved only by coming to a complete stop then accelerating again. This is a significant safety concern, as if this were to happen in stop-and-go traffic on a highway, the car would be unable to accelerate to highway speeds. On 6/20/26, I took the car to lia Honda in brewster, NY for diagnosis. They reported a failed electric power steering control unit/steering rack (trouble code u0420-68). They explained that this single electrical component failure also caused all other components to report failures because they are connected in a ring. Estimated repair cost $4,595. 98. I have filed a complaint with Honda to request out-of-warranty coverage. Car is ?3 years old, 3 months out of warranty, and only lightly used at 17,484 miles. Note that this car falls under NHTSA recall 24v-744, which pertains to a manufacturing defect in the worm gear of the electric power steering. We had the recall service completed on 12/26/24, but it seems possible that continued friction in the worm gear may result in overloading of the eps control unit. Other Honda Cr-v owners have reported similar issues online, so this does not appear to be an isolated incident. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.

5 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/19/2026

The highly documented sticky steering issue has caused multiple dangerous issues of steering overcorrection on 2 lane highways in rural arkansas and missouri where I live. Seems worse on returning to straight ahead from a slight left curve. It makes my very nervous to drive and the dealer ignored it for years saying it was probably a knocked loose sensor. Estimated cost of out of warranty repair for the some issue the latest models have a recall on is about $5000. I cannot afford this and makes me tend to drive this vehicle in a dangerous condition.

6 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/18/2026

The steering wheel sticks and requires force to move it back to center. When driving on the highway, a small curve is enough to let the steering wheel stick, requiring pressure to move it back to center. In the process, over-correcting occurs due to force being applied by my hands, which requires steering back and forth to settle in the center. Very unsafe.

7 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/16/2026

The steering sticks, I. E. Binds, when centered and requires excessive force to move it off center. The force/movement required to "unstick" the steering could inadvertently cause a lane or possibly a roadway departure as well as a crash into another vehicle. This issue, and its cause, have been diagnosed by Honda of san marcos (texas): "verified concern, found internal failure in the power steering rack, technician found power steering gear binding when turning" by technician keith arche.

8 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/12/2026

At highway speeds the steering intermittently sticks at center and then releases suddenly. It feels unsafe and causes me to oversteer to correct causing chance to run off the road. This matches the known eps rack binding issue on 2017–2019 cr?vs. I have had diagnostic performed at Honda of marysville on 6/12/26 and they responded with confirmation of the problem and agreed to escalate to Honda for goodwill repair, for safety concern. Honda of marysville responded on 6/15/26 that Honda corporate declined goodwill coverage. Called Honda corporate on 6/15/26 at 415p. Talked with alec. Explained situation. Calling to file an appeal for goodwill coverage. 1. Dealer confirmed problem 2. Dealer applied for goodwill coverage. Declined 3. Known safety problem and is under an sb 18-103 which applies to 2017-2019 crv vehicles 4. Had problem for 2+ years. Getting worse per last trip on highway to michigan [xxx]. He looked up and confirmed case information. Reaching out internally. Received call from haley at Honda corp @6p on 6/16/26. (800) 999-1009 x88210 as assigned case worker. Explained situation and confirmed information she was seeing. Haley said response in 24-48 hours and would call Friday 6/19 with update worse case. On 6/19/26 I left two vm’s and one email but did not get a promised update. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/12/2026

The steering wheel is sticking. It seems to be the gearbox power steering system.

10 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/10/2026

The steering when turning especially to the left and more so at highway speeds(although I have noticed it just driving and at city speeds making micro adjustments while going straight) stops having a responsive feel and as I come out of turns and start to straighten the steering wheel back up it does not move and then all of sudden feels like it lets loose and moves a few degrees in the direction I am turning it aback to and then feels like it catches again. I do notice it even just moderately adjusting my line (but it does not fall or move as many degrees as when actually tuning) and once again more noticeable at highway speeds. This seems to line up with the service bulletins and recalls the later year models. I believe it is the same problem but due to the model year they would rather distance themselves from the responsibility. I have been noticing something with it for about a week before the date listed but I wanted to make sure and it has actually started showing up more and worse. I am afraid this is going to cause a major issue.

11 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/10/2026

When going a higher speed on freeway, steering “sticks” when on curves. This problem was recalled for 2023-2025 Honda crv’s, but the same problem is happening with 2022’s.

12 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/09/2026

Since the first day of owing this 2019 cr v, the steering wheel did not smoothly turn. It would turn in small increments, somewhat jerking. As the years have gone by, the situation is worsened. I am afraid we will be in an accident along the highway. Today, I decided to check on what might be the cause, thinking something simple such as hydraulic fluid. Oh my gosh! I found 122 NHTSA complaints of exactly the same problem. And not only that! this exact situation was the subject of a recall of earlier versions of the same model. This is not my first rodeo with this specific car. Honda and NHTSA should both be concerned about the safefy of its customers. Brake systems and steering systems ought to top the list for recall considerations. What is the correct number of complaints to cause a recall? how many of those affected actually file a complaint? I suspect a very small number. Do people have to first be in an accident or be killed as a result of the problems identified by both the customers and their mechanics and dealerships?.

13 Steering problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/08/2026

Xxx. Purchased used Honda vehicle from skyway Honda dealership in [xxx] with known steering issue - although unknown to me until reching highway speeds after driving off lot. 2017 Honda Cr-v with electronic power steering gear issue. Vehicle steering causes random movement and potential for over-corretion at highway speeds. No prior indication of issue at time of purchase as vehicle had been "prepped for sale" at same-brand dealship with other maintenance services performed by service department. There are numerous complaints of same issue on the internet and there is no way dealer was unaware of the issue at time of sale nor was issue disclosed. Issue confirmed by independent service shop, repair cost estimate $5000. Issue related to NHTSA recall 18v-663. Not finding vehicle subject to recall, although same issue occurs on other vehicles of this make, model amd year. Have submitted request with Honda; pending: american Honda motor CO. , inc. Case #: xxx information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

14 Steering problem of the 2024 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/08/2026

Driving a Honda 2024 crv hybrid ,I was pulling into a front row parking spot and braking and as the car just about was going to stop it surged forward turning in the direction I had just pulled in from and accelerated instead of continuing to brake . I kept my foot on the brake hoping it was stopping , but continued to accelerate running over a sign, then a light post and then through the plate glass frame of the building . Finally coming to rest as it fully entered the building . The vehicle then emitted some smoke from underneath and the building was evacuated. Fortunately no one was in the room at the time the car came through. No injuries thank goodness . No warning signals or any assistive braking was in play . Just my foot on the brake from the time I entered the parking spot . The vehicle was towed to a Honda collision shop where it will have a damage estimate done and then inspected by the car manufacturer. No analysis has been performed at this time .

15 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/07/2026

Vehicle (31,000 miles) exhibits sticky steering or notchy steering near the straight-ahead position. At highway speeds, the steering wheel resists small steering corrections and then breaks free, causing overcorrection. The condition requires constant micro-corrections to maintain lane position. I first noticed the problem around 10,000 miles. I turned off the lkas system off. It appears to be getting worse. I called the Honda of ft myers dealer service dept (adrian) and he informed there was a recall on this issue in later models that did not include my year. His only advice was to bring it in. Tires are new, properly inflated, and vehicle has recently been aligned. The symptom appears to originate within the electric power steering system. Vehicle is available for inspection. Safety will be at risk if issue continues to worsen. No warning lamps. Thank you.

16 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/06/2026

Steering during cruising speed (39+ mph) exhibits "sticky" or jerking steering while driving straight or minor curves. It worsened since starting to experience this in the past few weeks.

17 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/05/2026

The steering system made clicking noises and while turning would lock up. I took this to Honda, and they replaced the steering rack. This was extremely unsafe, especially at higher speeds. I did not feel safe driving this vehicle with the steering system failing. This VIN was not included in a Honda recall for the steering system and the steering system failed. The cost of repair was $3400. 00. Honda agreed to pay approximately $1100. 00.

18 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/03/2026

The steering wheel is getting stuck in position on straight road driving and you have to force the steering wheel back and forth. It started as a gentle problem, most notably at highway speeds. Now it is getting progressively worse and is starting to make a clicking sound. I see Honda recalled models from 2022-2025 but I am having the same problem with the steering box/gears or clock spring or magnet. Whatever is causing the problem, on my 2018 year model. I feel Honda should be held responsible for this repair and corrective action. I don't know how long I can keep driving my car under this condition, and I do not have the money for an expensive repair caused by Honda.

19 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

We are experiencing the dangerous 'sticky/notchy' electric power steering (eps) conditions in our 2022 Honda Cr-v, identical to the symptoms described in NHTSA recall 24v-744. The steering wheel momentarily binds or sticks, particularly at highway speeds and when attempting to complete or recover from a turn. It requires noticeable extra physical effort to 'break' the wheel free from this sticky center point, which frequently causes the vehicle to momentarily jerk or overcorrect. The issue has become progressively worse with the onset of warmer summer weather. Our independent mechanic verified the issue but confirmed our specific 2022 VIN falls just outside the current recall parameters. Because the 2022 Cr-v shares similar eps components and exhibits the exact manufacturing defect, safety risk, and component degradation as the 2023–2025 models, the NHTSA should expand the recall population to include these earlier production dates before a serious incident occurs.

20 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

Steering "sticky". Intermittently steering feels stuck, resistant to during turns requiring extra force on steering wheel to break free both in low speed maneuvering and at highway speeds. Sticky steering associated by a soft clicking noise. Jim coleman Honda of clarksville MD checked the vehicle and confirmed the sticky steering and associated clicking noise. Their remedy to the sticky steering diagnosis was replacement of the eps steering rack and gearbox at a cost of $6,000. 00 they noted that this issue was the subject of a limited 2017-2018 recall 18v663 and more recently under 2022-2025 24v744. As result of stickiness the lka system no longer works properly.

21 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

I have noticed a hesitation in the steering of my 2022 Honda Cr-v. I can only describe it as a knock but it's a feeling rather than a sound. It's like a "hitch" or "catch" in what should be a smooth motion. I initially though it was something temporary, maybe weather related but it's continued and I now see others reporting the same issue online. It seems this was covered in a recall of 2023 - 2025 Cr-vs but did not include 2022s. I'm concerned that it would be a safety issue if it gets worse.

22 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

I'm concern with the possible safety issue while driving my 2019 crv on the expressway at 60 mph. The steering has a sticking moment when trying to adjust the wheel back to straight alignment. I'm not sure if this is going to continue or can this get more serious. In my research, I noticed that there is a recall for this issue on other year models but not 2019. I find that interesting. Shouldn't Honda be responsible for this safety issue on all crvs. Are other 2019 crv owners having this issue. I'm taking my crv into the dealer on Thursday 6/18 to address this issue.

23 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

Steering wheel was sticking. Adjustments to stay in a straight line were difficult and imprecise. An existing recall on this exact issue did not include my vehicle. Although, Honda covered 80% of the steering repair, I had to pay $888 to have the steering repair and 4 wheel alignment done. I assert that the recall should include my vehicle and be reimbursed for the money I paid.

24 Steering problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

When driving my 2019 Honda crv it is very difficult to drive at speeds 55 or higher. The steering frequently becomes stiff, jerky and notching feeling requiring both hands be on the steering wheel at all times. It is exhausing and feels unsafe. It will not stay straight. You have to constantly attempt to pull it back in your lane. I have turned off lane assist and it still does it. Other Honda crvs are included in a recall for this issue but mine is not. It causes severe driver anxiety and fatigue. Passengers even question my driving but when we trade places they see how frustrating it is. Something is definitely not right. The mechanical failure I am experiencing is the same as the 2023-2025 recall. I called the Honda dealership where I bought my vehicle and other Honda dealerships and they confirmed my vehicle is not currently included in the recall.

25 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/29/2026

May 15, 2026 - after driving highway speeds for 2 hours on a road trip, the steering wheel started to stick when trying to make small adjustments driving straight. It seemed like it could only move in notches, not glide smoothly. May 17, 2026 - after driving highway speeds for 1 hour, the same thing started happening again and continued for the remaining 2 hours of the trip. May 29, 2026 - after driving highway speeds for 2. 5 hours, the steering wheel started to stick again but this time I could also hear a little clicking noise every time I made a small adjustment to the wheel that moved it into a "notched" position created by the stickiness. The clunky movements of the steering wheel made me nervous driving on narrow curvy roads. I drove 5 hours one way where it started doing this halfway into the trip and 5 hours back home the same day with it sticking & clicking the entire time as I made minor movements of the wheel. It was not isolated to fast speeds; it continued at slow speeds. June 2, 2026 - the rear tires had been replaced 6 months earlier, so we decided to replace the front tires now to see if that would help resolve the issue. June 4, 2026 - after driving highway speeds at 2 hours, the steering wheel started sticking and clicking again. New tires did not fix the problem. Our destination was 2. 5 hours from home. We returned home later the same day with the sticking & clicking starting after about an hour and continuing the rest of the way home. There have been no warning lights or messages related to this problem. June 9, 2026 - we've seen online that there have been recalls on newer model Cr-vs for the eps gear box. We called our mechanic and described what we're experiencing. He agreed that it sounded like an eps issue and recommended we report it to NHTSA. Because the issue doesn't surface until at least an hour of driving highway speeds, it's hard to reproduce on demand.

26 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/29/2026

My wife and I spent the past 10 days putting approximately 2,300 miles on our 2018 crv while vacationing. On the first day of our vacation I noticed that the steering wheel would get stuck in a certain position which needed a slight push to unstick the wheel, this occurred after about 600 miles. This stick and unstick process happened every time I needed to make a small adjustment to my steering. It happened about 20 - 30 times a minute. As you can imagine driving for over 28 hours in 10 days I was quite frustrated with this tug of war. Many times this added nudge to turn the wheel would cause an over steer requiring a corrective steer in the opposite direction. This oversteering caused me to swerve within the lane that I was trying to stay within. I called my local dealer to make an appointment, I was told that I could drop the car off in a couple of days and it would take them 2 to 3 to get to it. Once they get to it, it would cost over $100 to diagnose the problem then they can estimate the cost of the repair. I need my car I can't drop it off for 2 or 3 days. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer, the vehicle components have not been inspected by anyone. And there were no warning lamps or messages displayed during this failure.

27 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/27/2026

The steering has a catch in it which makes for jerky driving. When driving to avoid drift and correct travel path the steering has a hard spot which makes it easy to over correct causing safety issues with nearby vehicles and driving on slick roads. I had heard that some crv’s had a recall for this issue but none shows up for this vehicle. This happens frequently when driving and has happened on many trips.

28 Steering problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/27/2026

Car was leased on 2/2025, at the end of may 2026 I drove the car for a couple of days when I began to notice there was an issue when turning left. Anytime I made a left turn, the car would get stuck and would pull back to the right. When the left turn was being made, there would be a clicking sound from the front left side of the car. When driving straight, the car felt like it needed to pull to the right and I would need to hold on to the steering wheel tight. At the beginning of June, I took the car into Honda where they checked it and recommended the steering column to be replaced and advised my husband that the car was no longer safe to drive. The car is 1 year and 4 months and has had no issues until now. Honda is no longer giving me warranty on the car due to the high mileage and they are quoting me $5048. 67 to replace the car. I submitted a request to Honda for a "goodwill" repair but have not heard back from anyone. Because my VIN was not part of the Honda crv steering gearbox assembly, the service manager stated there was nothing they could do to help me.

29 Steering problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/26/2026

Steering problem. Steering wheel sticks while driving making it a safety hazard. Automobile dealership repair service said the gear box needed to be replaced. When I checked on the NHTSA website I saw that the 2017-2018 Honda crvs had a safety recall for this problem but I don't find that we received a recall notice for our vehicle.

30 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/25/2026

The steering wheel is slightly sticking while driving/steering on interstates and highways where mostly noticed, but also noticing on curved backroads. When navigating a curve the steering wheel has slightly stuck and the automatic brake light flashes on very briefly. This has happened several times now and both main drivers of the car have noticed the issue. We are reporting now out of fear that it may become a bigger issue if not addressed, that affects both steering and braking that puts occupants at risk. We are reporting this as of today, which is the most recent incident on may 25, 2026, but this has happens about 4 or 5 times in the last month. We checked to see if this was a known recall issue, but the recall only applies to 2023 - 2025 crvs for some reason. This sounds like the exact issue/recall that our 2021 crv is having. Thank you!.

31 Steering problem of the 2024 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/24/2026

Honda has made it extremely easy for thieves to steal the front radar sensor on all 2024 Cr-v models. Mine was recently stolen, and there is currently no approved protection or deterrent offered by Honda to prevent this. Even after replacing it, the risk of it being stolen again remains very high. As a result, losing this sensor completely disables key Honda sensing safety features, making the vehicle less safe to drive. On top of that, the replacement cost ranges from $1,500 to $3,000, despite the owner having no fault in the incident. The theft itself can be done in under two minutes. Overall, this design leaves the vehicle highly vulnerable, and it feels like Honda has not taken adequate steps to protect customers, while still leaving them responsible for costly repairs.

32 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/24/2026

My 2022 Honda crv is experiencing a "sticky or catching" steering wheel under normal driving conditions. The vehicle will not self-correct to the center unless some manual effort is attempted. (especially when re-centering from a left-hand curve). The issue has become increasingly more pronounced over time. It became apparent that this was a design flaw once I began to investigate the problem online. Apparently, Honda has issued a recall for the problem in the 2023-2024 model years. (over 1. 7 million vehicles) however, I am experiencing the exact symptoms in my 2022 crv. I greatly fear in driving the vehicle, we may attempt to over-correct the steering and cause a potential accident or worse. I am reaching out to my local Honda dealership this week to seek advice. I wanted to register my concern with the NHTSA first. Thank you for your consideration of my serious concern.

33 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/22/2026

The contact owns a 2021 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became inoperable and became difficult to turn and felt very sticky when attempting to steer with no warning lights illuminated. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.

34 Steering problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/20/2026

While driving my 2022 Honda crv at highway speeds and at operating temperature, the steering sticks and/or pauses then releases causing the steering to jerk back in the opposite direction. This creates a major safety issue while driving on the highway and can potentially cause an accident. Additionally, when turning the vehicle left at slow speeds, we would periodically hear a clicking noise. These problems began at the beginning of 2024 and have progressively gotten worse. Initial attempts to have Honda identify the problems failed as they could not replicate the problems at the time of diagnostics. During this time, our warranty expired. On may 20, 2026, we once again had the vehicle inspected by pohanka Honda of salisbury, MD for the same issues. This time the lead mechanic technician was able to replicate and pinpoint the problem. He noted the problem was the "electrical power steering system assembly and gearbox assembly", which contained the worm gear and worm wheel assembly. The dealership quoted us a price of $2,153. 00 for parts, labor, and a full alignment, which is required during this type of repair. The service technician advised there are no current recalls to cover the cost of this repair. The Honda corporation has suggested we apply for their “goodwill assistance program”, to help cover cost for out-of-warranty repairs, but there was no guarantee that we would qualify for any monetary relief. We believe Honda corporation is ignoring a major defect and safety issue regarding the electrical power steering assembly and gearbox, on older crv models. This same part has been deemed as defective and a major safety issue on newer crv models between 2023-2025 and has recalled those vehicles for repair. I believe the company should be required to recall all vehicles with the defective electrical power steering assembly and gearbox. Fortunately for us, Honda made the repair and covered the full cost through the goodwill assistance program.

35 Steering problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/20/2026

Steering of the vehicle was impacted, especially at highway speeds. The steering was “sticky” and required extra attention and great care to avoid driving off the road at highway speeds. No warning lamps identified the issue. Took vehicle to the dealer where issue was identified as steering rack replacement was required. With this being a common issue with Honda crv vehicles, with previous recalls, I felt it was important to file this notification.
