Steering rack & pinion was found to have a leak. Affected steering performance of vehicle along with leak being a fire hazard. Purchased new in 2007.
Very early failure of power steering rack and pinion. The dealer/Honda did not provide a better mechanism to identify the issue. I think Honda power steering is a very defective part that they are selling to customers and charging hefty dollars $1750 to repair at the customer's expense.

This vehicle only has 80k miles and the rack and pinion needs to be replaced for the high cost of $1,300. Appears to be a common issue, recall or product update needs to be offered from Honda. Where's the reliability?.
I have not had any issues other than the typical recalls on my Honda Cr-v. The steering suddenly became difficult and took it to the dealer. I was lucky that there was minimal traffic and the dealership was close. They told me the rack and pinion steering needed to be replaced. It appears this is a common problem with the 2008 Cr-v's. Several mechanics now have indicated this should not have happened. Very frustrating.
Power steering rack leak. This is my 2nd crv that has been diagnosed with a rack and pinion leak. Upon researching it is apparent that this is a common issue and a very expensive repair. Honda should issue a recall due to safety issues involving the steering.

2008 Honda crv with less than 67000 miles. Taken for inspection in March and was told the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. Starting to leak. Needs to be replaced within a couple of months. I never saw where it was leaking. Took it in to dealership and had rack and pinion replaced. They said it was bad, charged about $1000. 00.
Steering rack and pinion is leaking when I took it to a mechanic he told me that this problem is common with the 2008 Honda crv ,and very expensive to fix. Idid some research online I was shocked by how many people complaining about same problem, and Honda refuse to take the responsibility. This is a serious safety issue ,losing control of the vehicle while driving my cause death or injury. I still didn't fix my car cause I feel that Honda should be held responsible for the repair of the vehicle after so many people complained and it's only effect this particular make and model.
The steering rack and pinion is leaking and the auto is hard to steer. This is a known problem with the 2008 Honda Cr-v and its very likely to cause a accident. I have read many reviews about the steering problems with this Honda.
2008 Honda Cr-v with ~50k miles only. First owner. The rack and pinion is leaking! it cost me ~1500$ to fix it at a Honda dealer in houston, TX area.
My car is stationary, took it in to have air bags replaced, dealership calls and says that my rack and pinion needs to be replaced at a cost of $1,300. How long before this goes out completely or what do I do in this case? I can't afford it.

Leaking rack & pinion boots detected during oil change on 2/06/2017 at dealership.
The rack & pinion assembly has failed three times since owning the vehicle -- 8/17/2013 (53,031mi), 1/19/16 (87,263mi) and 10/12/16 (99,460mi).
I took my Honda Cr-v 2008 to local Honda dealer for air bag recalls. I asked them to check the sound coming from engine, sort of engine racing at a high speed while the vehicle was stationary. Also, I was hearing noises when turning left or right. It felt like I had to apply force to turn the steering. After running diagnostics, the dealer came back with $1800 quote for replacement of rack and pinion, and the power steering pump. Doing a simple google search, I came across postings from multiple Honda Cr-v 2008 owners, who were having the exact same problem. I called Honda customer support number, who talked nicely, but said that they could not do anything as that was not part of the recall, and that I will have to get that fixed on my own. Since so many people seem to have the exact same problem, Honda should assist with repair, which otherwise is so very expensive. We did not buy Honda to get surprises like these. Hope they are listening!!!.
Rack and pinion had to be replaced and I have had to get several new tires due to the issue. Strange noise and of coarse dealership responded like they would really have to take a look at it even though it seems to be an ongoing problem with this car. They knew immediately what the problem was . . . . .
Brought my Cr-v in for routine service and tires was told by mechanic stated that power steering rack n pinion was leaking and had to be replaced. I purchased a Honda for durability but apparently this particular year model has had problems with steering from several consumers and should be recalled.
Power steering rack and pinion reportedly need replacement, and realignment, due to fluid link. This appears to be very common for this vehicle, year and make. There should be a recall notice for this.
I heard whinning sound in my 2007 Honda crv ( 2wd, 5 door) and I visited Honda dealership. They advised me to change steering pressure hose due to leakage and it will cost me approx $400. I visited another bodyshop for second opinion, he advised me that not only steering hose we need to replace steering rack & pinion assembly as well due to leakage. It will cost more than $2000 to fix this. I noticed similar issues online for lot of other owners for same model/year. I am not sure if this is quality issue of this model/year. Paying this amount is too much.

Me and my wife bought a 2008 Honda crvlx and the dealership on 4-15-2015 and said they did a inspection on the Honda then I took it to my machnic and they told me the rack and pinion and boot was bad and can cause the stearing to go bad to me and alot of other reviews I have read had the same problem also my wife drove on the interstae for the firdt time in new call and the stearing wheel was shakeing there should be a recall no matter what about the rack and pinion going bad and if it breaks while driveing it would probley cause a reck thanks.
The 2008 Honda Cr-v has issues with the power steering system. I purchased my car new car and recently brought my car into the dealer for a door-lock actuator recall at david mcdavid Honda in texas and I was told by the dealership that I have a leak in my rack and pinion that cannot be fixed. I have to replace the entire power steering/ rack and pinion system with an alignment for about a cost of $1500. This is a significant problem/defect with the 2008 Cr-v and Honda should recall the model. This is a safety issue due to a fire hazard. My car milage is only 11, 637. It does not make sense for it to have a power steering problem at this time.
Brought my vehicle in for an oil change and was advised that my rack and pinion needed replacement. Safety issue.
The 2008 Honda crv has issues with the power steering system. ~ I purchased my car new car, and recently brought my car into the dealer for state inspection. I was told by hendricks Honda, woodbridge, va that I have a leak in my rack & pinion which cannot be fixed. I have to replace the entire power steering/ rack&pinion systems with an alignment for a cost of over $1600. I asked whether this was a common problem for this year's model and didn't get a straight answer. Based on numerous reports here and on the web, it appears that this is a significant problem/defect with 2008 crvs and Honda should recall the model. I also understand by reports folks have filed that this is potentially a safety hazard, possible fire hazard. Honda should be required to recall and correct the defect. .

Steering rack & pinion was found to have a leak. Affected steering performance of vehicle along with leak being a fire hazard. Purchased new in 2008. Went to dealer to have it replaced and total cost came out to usd 2. 2k+.
Rack and pinion steering system replaced, leaking,.
2007 Honda Cr-v making whining noise during turns. Topped off power steering fluid which fixed the problem for a few months. Eventually took car in to local dealership. Local Honda dealership indicates that I need new power steering hose and rack and pinion system. Without replacing both, the problem will only get worse. I see a number of other similar issues reported regarding steering issues with the 2007 Honda Cr-v.
About a year ago, I heard whining noises when driving the car. I sent it to a garage and found a steering hose leak, costing $350 to replace the hose, but didn't resolve the whining noise issue. Recently, I sent it to Honda dealer and was told that steering rack and pinion as well as steering pump need to be replaced due to the leak. The estimate to repair is $1900, too expensive for me. It seems it is a quality issue since I saw a lot of similar steering complains for this model and year.
I have been the only owner and bought my 2008 Honda Cr-v brand new. I take my oil change to Honda dealership thinking they would advise me if there was something wrong with my car. Also, to help ensure I do preventative maintenance with my vehicle. I live in texas and it gets very hot here. I never had any problems until now, when the weather starts getting cooler. I started hearing a "clicking noise" whenever I turn my wheel to the right, especially in a cold morning. It didn't use to make that noise whenever it gets hot in the afternoon. But then, the past couple of days the noise is now pretty much permanent. I tried taking my car to the dealership, I have 44k on it. But they want to charge me $75 to do a diagnostic test. I asked them if they can waive it since I've been a customer for the past 3 years. They wouldn't budge. Needless to say, I went to another dealership to take a look. They said I needed to replace my rack and pinion. My car is pretty brand new, I had high hopes when it comes to Honda vehicles. I've had a Honda accord and an Acura tl in the past. For some reason, my Honda Cr-v is having a lot of mechanical problems. The steering wheel is a safety issue.
This is my second 2008 crv - my first I owned for 1-2 days before returning to dealership to tell them the front end was not balanced correctly. They kept the car for a week trying to correct the problem and could not. I refused to keep it and I received a new car a week later. However, since then I am now on my third set of tires - even though I rotate, align and balance regularly and I just reached 40,000 miles on my car. To make matters worse I just failed my state inspection due to a failed seal and leak in the steering rack and pinion area. Of course this is not under warranty now. However, it's not a wear and tear item - it's a safety issue - but nonetheless not covered under warranty. The dealership is going to pay for the part $1,200, but I must pay for the labor of just under $800. 00 . Unfortunately I'm not all that positive the new part they will be putting in is any better than the faulty one that is already in my car! I have already put three sets of tires on this second new car and now I must pay for yet another faulty issue. Perhaps the wheel balance issue is related to the faulty steering as they are connected. Does someone have to die before Honda will recognize they have a real problem with the Cr-v?? my next car will not be a Honda!.
Power steering rack leaking and required total replacement of rack and pinion steering rack. Told this was a safety issue by dealership that repaired the car.
