Power Steering Light On Problems of Honda CR-V

While driving on the highway, my power steering light came on and the steering wheel locked up. I was struggled to turn the steering wheel to get the car to the shoulder of highway. It almost caused me to have an accident . It was towed to the dealer and they stated it was the power steering or ecp and it will cost almost $1500 dollars to fix. My car was never in any major accidents for anything of this nature to occur and is always serviced at the dealer. I ask the dealer why would this happen and all he said was �the only thing I can think of is if it was in an accident �.

Complete vehicle system problem messages. Vehicle stability, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, electrical parking brake, emissions system, brake system, brake hold, power steering, hill start assist, tire pressure monitor problem, power steering system problem. Every one of these systems is displaying a �problem� message as well as brake light is flashing on the dashboard engine light is on brake system light is on steering wheel light is on vehicle stability light is on battery light is on and oil lamp is on. This is about the fifth time this has happened. I have also experienced this while driving. The vehicle will suddenly display all these error messages for no apparent reason. Sometimes the error messages will pop up as soon as you turn the car on other times it happens suddenly while driving. It happens on city streets and on the highway straight away or turning.

The vehicle intermittently became very difficult to steer at low speeds and the steering indicator light would come on for short periods of time. This nearly resulted in accidents on several occasions. The owner took the vehicle to a dealer, but the technician stated that he could not replicate the problem. The technician then advised the owner to continue driving the vehicle to see if the problem would recur. The owner found this advice to be unacceptable and questioned what might happen if the problem recurred. The technician then elevated the issue to the manager, who was able to isolate a trouble code. The owner was informed that no one at the dealership knew what the trouble code meant, and that the dealer would have to consult with Honda corporate for guidance. The owner was then informed that Honda corporate recommended the replacement of the power steering rack. This repair was performed at significant cost to the owner. Neither the troubleshooting process nor the associated trouble code were recorded on the work documentation presented to the owner. The vehicle steering felt stiff afterwards, then twice exhibited a failure mode in which the steering indicator light illuminated and the steering system appeared to hit a premature hard stop part way into a low-speed turn, forcing the vehicle wide. Both of these incidents nearly resulted in accidents, but the owner quickly spun the steering wheel towards center, then back into the direction of the turn. The process of re-centering the steering wheel appeared to temporarily clear the premature hard stop, and the owner was able to complete the turn. These incidents occurred during low-speed turns (roughly 10mph) on local streets and parking lots in the austin area. Repair invoice for the power steering rack available upon request. This complaint was filed by a family representative on behalf of the owner.

March 2017 car parked in driveway. When started power steering light on. Called dealership and car was towed to dealership. When repair was complete, cost was $250. 00 and charged to us. Not covered under warranty due to "rodent" damage. October 31, 2017 exact same issue; however, car pulled up on ramps at home and repair to wiring was done with electrical tape. Photos take and dealership was notified. Dealership suggested car be driven 6+ miles to them for repair, again. It was agreed that electrical tape was insufficient for repair. Tow truck was called and repair was done. Happened upon information that Honda used a "soy based" coating on wiring on this year of vehicle. Also, rodent proof tape is available. Was not notified of this by dealership nor, was it offered.

Electrical power steering---the steering wheel became very hard to turn and the electrical power steering light came on when I pulled out of my subdivision onto the main street. This happened while turning a corner and while turning around in a parking lot. ---it totally turned off and would not restart for several minutes. Took it to the Honda service they could not find anything wrong with it! then it happened again while I was on highway 158-turning onto the main road--I could have been in a wreck or killed---when I finally made it to a safe place the car turned off again for 10-15 minutes. The Honda service department sent a tow truck--hopefully they can repair it. ---this is a very unsafe situation to have happen--thank god I was able to correct the turn! it happens while turning--and the power steering light comes on! this happened on 7/10/17 and 7/13/17.

I went out Saturday morning started the car and the steering malfunction light was on and I had no power steering (eps). I called the dealer they said they couldn't help until Tuesday (Monday holiday) so it isn't fixed yet.

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the steering wheel seized. The steering wheel warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle stability actuator (vsa) failed. It was unknown if the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the dealer and manufacturer informed that there were not a related to the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Cr-v. While driving 15 mph, the power steering malfunctioned and made the steering wheel extremely difficult to maneuver. The steering warning light illuminated and then dimmed once the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 41,630.

While driving less than 30 mph, the power steering failed on two occasions with my 2012 Honda crv. It became very difficult to turn the wheel and the power steering indicator light was on, and the only thing I could really do is stop in the middle of the street. When I turned off the vehicle and restarted it, the steering worked fine again. The same thing happened again about one week later. I took it to my Honda dealer in inver grove heights, mn, to have it checked. They could see from the two codes that something happened but could not find anything wrong. They contacted Honda, who indicated it could have something to do with the battery connection so they checked/replaced the grounding wire to the battery and also checked all of the connections. I previously had problems with the battery about 6 months after getting the new vehicle. I had trouble with the vehicle starting even in the garage. I had it into the dealership at least three different times when they determined I had a bad battery. After they replace the battery, I did not have any problems with it starting again. It makes me wonder if the previous battery issue and the steering issue could be related I have only been driving it a few days, but it has not happened again as yet. If it happens again, I will take the vehicle to my Honda dealer and update this complaint. Having steering failure is obviously a very serious safety issue, which I am very concerned about.

With no previous symptoms or problems, yesterday backing our of parking stall I could not turn steering wheel; dash power steering warning light was on. Turned off and restarted car but light stayed on. Called service mgr at dealership I bought it from who said to bring it in. At dealership took picture of dash light and had svc mgr confirm the light was, in fact, on. Left overnight for service. Today, service mgr and tech said light did not come on and steering was normal when started this am. Tech noted a slight drop in voltage but still waiting for diagnosis. Luckily I was parked when the problem occurred, but his is a very serious health and safety issue that could have disastrous result should it recur in fast moving traffic. Honda needs to find a permanent fix for this immediately.

My wife was pulling out of the parking lot and she felt the steering to be very stiff and impossible to steer, she stopped right there and the little yellow steering light on the dash came on. This could be a serious safety issue had it failed while she was driving on a busy road not to mention she had our kid in the car while this happened. We got the car towed to the dealership immediately and waiting for their response.

2012 Honda crv - power steering intermittently goes out while driving and power steering failure light on dash illuminates. Once vehicle is turned off after an occurrence the power steering again works fine for days or weeks until the next occurrence. While the dealership acknowledges that when this occurs the vehicle is unsafe to drive, the vehicle is currently at the dealership for the third time to attempt repair for this dangerous problem. Note this is the first model year to use Honda's new motion-adaptive electric power steering (eps).
