The contact owns a 2018 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and turning the steering wheel to the left or the right, the steering wheel failed to return to center. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering gear box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Although the incident date is recent (since an alignment was done a few days prior) this issue has been happening for over a year, but is now getting to the point that we are unable to drive safely at highway speeds. Our steering wheel, especially at highway speeds, gets stuck either side of center, pulling the car to one side or the other. The steering wheel feels stuck and has to be turned with effort constantly to keep the car traveling in a straight line. Even the lane assist feature is also constantly having to correct the steering. After a wheel alignment the problem seems to have gotten worse. The steering also does not recover to the center position after making a turn at low speed.
There is an issue with the power steering system. When I turn the steering wheel from a stop I experience resisting or binding feel in the steering wheel. This occurs whether the wheel is making a left or right turn. I also notice this if I am changing lanes in driving. This issue is most noticed after the engine is warm from travel. The steering feels 'sticky" and the safety of the vehicle at freeway speeds is concerning. My Honda dealer has investigated this issue on o9/05/2025 and indicated the steering rack needs to be replaced. This was an issue Honda was aware of back in 2018, however my vehicle was not apart of the recall. I purchased this vehicle in August of 2018 at Honda of covington. This vehicle currently has 59,524 miles and has been regularly serviced at my linda dealer. Some financial remediation would be appreciated.
The steering sticks making the wheel difficult to accurately control. I believe this is the same eps problem that has been recalled in later models.
We had to replace steering gearbox. This was the second time we had to bring the car into the dealer for repairs. Almost a year earlier August 27,2024 brought in for the same issue, at that time the Honda had 61,505 miles. No repairs were done as they had no error codes to go by even though there were other Hondas witl steeringbox issues. As of October 9,2024 1. 7 million in recall. July 5,2025 had steering gearbox replaced at our cost of $4,557. 18. We had a hard time keeping the vehicle on the road as it would drift and violently go from left to right when driving. Other Hondas were recalled but this model year has no recalls yet on the steering box. Ihope that Honda will include this model in their recall as we are having the same problems as other Hondas with steering gearbox. Thank you.

Sticky steering, clicking on turning and needed to hold on tight while driving. Changing lanes on highway felt unsafe like the car would lose control. Car was recently at Honda for a recall on passenger seat sensor for the airbags. During the repair, a tire bulge was noticed and Honda dealer recommended we get that tire replaced ASAP. (manager at lea Honda said not necessary to replace all 4 on awd. ?. ? ) shortly after, the steering problem began whether or not related. We had our reliable private mechanic replace the other 3 tires and found the steering gear box defective and had to replace it and quite an expense. We kept the old one. There have been recalls on the steering gear box and this should be added. 2021 should be on the recall with the others.

Car has been driven only 50k miles and while making right turns the steering clicks and often kicks back . Seems like a problem with manufacturing.
- rack and pinion steering has developed 'sticky steering' problem - steering resistance has created steering difficulty and dangerous driving situation - problem has been confirmed by a dealer and estimate for repair over $5,000 - component has not been inspected by manufacturer, wish they would. - no warning lights prior to failure. Steering my Honda crv 2017 has become difficult and the 'sticky steering' symptoms have also been experienced by other crv owners as expressed on line. This vehicle has become dangerous to drive.

I own a 2021 Honda Cr-v with approximately 47,011 miles. I’ve noticed that when I hold the steering wheel perfectly straight, the vehicle pulls slightly to the right. This happens on flat, level roads and is most noticeable at speeds over 45 mph, especially on highways. At higher speeds, the drifting becomes more pronounced, and the car feels unstable. It seems like the vehicle is fighting against my steering input, which raises a serious safety concern, especially during long highway drives or in emergency situations. I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership, and they diagnosed a failing steering rack, which they say needs to be replaced. The repair estimate is $4,478. This seems unreasonable for a vehicle with under 50,000 miles and no accident history or modifications. The steering rack is a critical safety component, and its failure at this mileage suggests a potential defect. I am filing this complaint to report the issue and urge NHTSA to investigate whether this is an isolated case or part of a wider problem. If others are experiencing the same failure, I believe a safety recall may be warranted. I also request that Honda be required to assist affected customers.
The power steering rack failed making it difficult to steer the vehicle. The problem steadily grew worse over several months and was verified by a dealer service center. Clearly, faulty steering is a safety risk and one that Honda is aware of, having previously recalled 1. 7 million vehicles similar to mine. The dealer merely changed out the power steering rack rather than actually investigating to determine the specific problem (I. E. Opening the power steering gear box). The following is a synopsis of my complaint: 1) Honda produced a defective part which clearly impacted the safety and performance of my vehicle after only 53,000 miles. 2) Honda refused to acknowledge the defect in this particular vehicle despite recalling 1. 7 million others. 3) Honda advised that if the defect is acknowledged in the future, only vehicles repaired by a Honda dealership may be eligible for compensation. 4) Honda technicians, upon performing the necessary repair did not investigate whether the problem was caused specifically by the same gearbox issue that warranted recalling the other vehicles. The faulty power steering rack was not inspected by anyone. It is currently in my possession. There were no warning lamps or messages. There was difficulty steering the vehicle. There was a "sticking" sensation in the steering wheel which grew worse and eventually kept the vehicle from being able to be steered smoothly at speed.
The steering is binding up when turning and there is a clicking noise. I notice this a low speeds. Local mechanic inspected all suspension and drive train parts and said everything looked ok. He did not check the steering. I see this recall for later year models: the steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle. Will Honda extend this recall to cover 2020 crvs as it seems to be the same problem. This seems to be a known defect and should be covered. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Sticky steering/stiffness in steering. Steering sticks in place and then when forced the car jerks quickly to either side. This has put my family and others at risk as it is hard to control the steering and causes sudden movements from side to side. No warning lamps or messages appear on the dash. The Honda dealer inspected the vehicle and determined the vehicle has an internal failure to steering rack and will require replacement. Replacement cost is $4,204. 17. The vehicle is one year out of warranty. The large Honda steering recall is for model years 2022 and newer. Honda would not cover this repair under the current recall and will only do so if the recall is extended. I called american Honda to see if they would offer any goodwill and after their internal review they decided against any goodwill unless the recall is expanded as the vehicle is out of warranty. This is our first and last Honda. We will share our experience with our friends and neighbors - Honda seems to not understand what customer service means but they do know how to lose current and future customers.
I have been reading many similar steering defects on the Honda crv. The problem is the steering wheel sticking when trying to maintain the Honda on a straight path. The steering is not fluid! calling the dealership the first time ,I was told ,rather rudely that it was probably the rack and pinion steering gearbox. They also said it was going to cost north of $5,000. 00. After exhausted research of the problem, I discovered Honda has several model recall for this, potentially very serious problem ,including the Honda crv. I found there is a recall on the 2023 and newer. My 2109 is not in the recall. At this point I brought the crv to the dealership to trouble shoot the problem. Sure enough the rude person was right. I needed a rack and pinion gearbox. I was quoted a price of, $5756. 24. This opinion cost me $177. 75. I left and told them I need to search around for a better price, and also try to get this done on a recall. I have contacted Honda customer service. As of this writing I feel I’m getting the run around! but I keep trying to see if they have a soul!!!.
During wet conditions or after a car wash, the steering get stuck and requires force to free it up. Usually resulting in overcorrecting and erratic steering. I believe there is a recall for the same issue on crv models but not in my year range.
Steering rack and pinion of 2010 Honda Cr-v need to be replaced due to leaking of fluid.

The steering wheel sticks especially after being driven for a while. It is necessary to use slightly more force to move it sometimes causing overcorrection. I took it to the Honda dealer and they said eventually the gears will be worn so much that the steering mechanism will fail and potentially cause an accident. There are no warning lights for this issue, and currently no recall. I have not had it fixed because the repair cost I was quoted was $4,300. My vehicle has not even hit 100k miles, and should not have such a dangerous, costly issue already.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v663000 (steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 45,000.
Steering seems "sticky" causing to over correct when turning in the highway and at low speeds. Ticking/clicking noise when turning the wheel. It is consistent every drive.
"sticky steering" is what its being called. I have been dealing with this for several years (after the warranty was out) but over the last 2 months it has gotten worse. While at highway speeds (45+) there is more resistance when trying to straighten the steering wheel causing an over correction and veering into another lane. Problem is known to dealer but has yet to be duplicated by several garages.
My car quickly became unable to be driven safely when the steering started to fail. It started with a feeling of the tires sticking to the road when trying to make small adjustments to position with the steering wheel. I was not able to maintain a straight line drive without the constant small jerks associated with the sticky feeling. The steering quickly deteriorated to the point of barely being able to keep the car on the road because of the inability to steer. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and the driveshaft components replaced, at my expense. I was told that there is a known defect in the 2022 crv hybrids but my VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. There were no warning lamps or messages during the failure.

The contact owns a 2021 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and turning the steering wheel to the right, there was an abnormal popping sound, with an abnormal tug of the steering wheel in the same direction. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the electric power steering rack assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,753.
When parallel parking, steering became extremely heavy making it difficult to turn the steering wheel. This was followed by heavier-than-normal steering when driving at speeds ranging from 25-45 mph.
The power steering rack/gearbox has been determined to be faulty and needs to be replaced. It will keep getting harder to steer. The dealership said that another had recently been replaced. There has not been any inspection by Honda, only the dealership who diagnosed the issue. There has been a recall of later models by Honda. October 9, 2024 — torrance, calif. Approximately 1. 7 million Honda and Acura vehicles in the u. S. Affected by a defective part in steering gearbox issue can cause increased steering effort and difficulty that can increase risk of a crash or injury free repair of steering gearboxes will be completed at authorized Honda and Acura dealerships american Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 1. 7 million 2022-2025 Acura and Honda vehicles in the u. S. For a free repair of a defective part in the steering gearbox that could result in an increased risk of a crash or injury. 2023-2025 Honda Cr-v. It seems unreasonable that a model 4 years old and less than 63,000 miles will need $3,450 repair for a safety issue related to steering the vehicle. It occurs at all speeds. The steering problem appears to be very similar to the issue related to the 2023 models.
On 6/19/2025 while driving on both residential and highway I noticed extremely sloppy/sticky steering wheel and did not feel safe while driving. The temperature was in the high 80's. I had not noticed anything like this before. Today is 6/29/2025 and I have been to the dealership I bought my crv vehicle from 3 times relating to the steering for substantial visits on 6/20, 6/24 and 6/26. They were not able to replicate at the dealership what I experienced and we have had substantially cooler temperatures, such as 25 degrees. I believe no being able to replicate what I experienced could be caused by the much lower temperatures. I am frustrated since after the first visit to the dealership for service on 6/20/2025 by searching online I have learned there have been numerous years before and after my crv was manufactured with steering related issues. This includes 2018 (18v66300 recall for electric power assist system) and 2019 (19v383000). The 2019 steering wheel recall was for vehicles that began manufacture 10-03-2018 and had manufacturing ending 4/02/2019. My vehicle was manufactured January 2019 and from what I understand it was not included in the recall. There was also recently a recall announced Nov. 2024 related to gearbox worm wheel and this included crv model years 2023-2025. Additional information is that my crv has low mileage. As of 6/20/2025 the mileage was 46,636. My concerns is that there has been a pattern over many years with similar issues as I expressed June 2025 regarding my crv. This has involved many Honda auto makes including crv.
While driving down the road the steering will simply get a sticky spot in the steering. So you will be driving and suddenly there is a stuck spot in the steering wheel and to get it past it you must push the steering past that point which makes you nearly veer into other lanes. It is a very dangerous situation that is well known all over the internet. There are recalls on some of the crv vehicles for this exact same problem, however not for my vehicle. I was quoted $6000 to fix it and after I inquired deeper with Honda about this being an ongoing issue with others I was suddenly only responsible for $2000 of the cost. I feel strongly that Honda knows of this problem and is still making consumers pay for the bad parts they have put on theese steering systems. This problem is extremely dangerous and someone will likely be killed over Honda not starting a recall on this.
After driving about 4 hours on the highway, I noticed my steering wheel started to stick if I turned it to the left at all, and there was a groaning sound coming from the wheel well. Steering issues could directly affect my safety and those around me on the road. I took it into Honda, and they said it was my steering gear box, and that it needed to be replaced. It seems there was a recall associated with Honda steering gear boxes in 2024, but they said my issue wasn’t related to that and they wouldn’t cover the cost. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. The contact stated that it felt as if the steering wheel was stuck. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with power steering rack failure. The contact was informed that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. In addition, the contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was provided with a monetary discount to assist with the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 81,418.
When the car is hot, (warmed up and the temp the ambient temp is over 80 degrees f) the electrical power steering "sticks" while highway driving and makes it difficult to steer the vehicle. We took it to a local Honda dealer who has indicated that they find nothing wrong with the steering but there is definitely something not right. We have noticed that other 2018 Honda Cr-vs have had power steering recalls, but ours is not indicated on the list. We are wondering if this is simply not something that has been discovered for our vehicle VIN yet. Hoping for some kind of resolution that assists in getting problem properly addressed issue has been occurring for about 2 months now. Issue is ongoing.
Steering becomes "sticky," and it becomes difficult to turn the steering wheel. This happens after about 45 minutes of driving and at speeds of 50 miles per hour and higher. The steering wheel sticks in one position and it takes greater effort to unstick it. This is a safety issue, because turning and lane changes take longer and could lead to a crash. This issue hasn't been confirmed by a dealer because of the time it takes for the problem to manifest itself. The vehicle has not been inspected outside of normal dealer servicing.
No crash, but ongoing issue that could cause a crash easily as it is increasing in difficulty in steering the vehicle. Abnormal sound when turning. Sticky wheel that has difficulty releasing at the end of a turn. Increased effort to turn. Safety issue due to uneven force needed to turn or straighten at end of turn which can result in under or over correcting. Honda dealer can reproduce and says the steering gearbox needs to be replaced but the cost is over $5000 and will have to be budgeted for. Other models of Hondas have been recalled for same issue but not this year of vehicle.
I parking my car in a parking spot at my work infront of a tree post the car jumped and hit the tree post by it self as crazy it sound I’ve never seen this before I was devastated. Scared I had called the insurance to tow the car to the Honda dealer and it’s been sitting there for a month now to get the manufacturing Honda come look at it and no one had contacted me yet.
When the steering wheel is turned to its maximum angle you can hear popping noises at slower speeds in parking lot or when backing out of driveway. When traveling at higher speeds 35mph or more the steering wheel sticks and is hard to move. When it unsticks it jerks the vehicle in the opposite direction. Worried this can cause a crash. Why is this not covered under a recall? there are other 2018 Cr-vs that are covered under 18v-663 recall why is my VIN excluded considering I am having the same issue?.
The steering of the car sticks during continuous turns when the car has been driving for a significant amount of time (over 15 minutes). This problem started out as slight sticking when making large turns on the highway but has become increasingly more noticeable especially on lower speed roads and turns. My VIN number is not connected to a recall however this issue seems to be the same as a recall for Honda Cr-vs from 2022-2024. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealership or service center and no warning lamps are on in the car.
2022 Honda Cr-v: when driving, either local speed or highway speed, the steering sticks on slight turns. At first, this was very subtle, but now is more prominent and just recently, I can hear a clicking sound or noise whenever I move my steering wheel. I am afraid that steering will fail or "stick" and not come out of it causing an accident. I am also concerned that I could overcorrect. I feel this is definitely a safety issue. I brought it to my dealer but they said it would be a $195 diagnostic charge. I see many complaints for this issue and wonder why Honda has not issued a recall. The dealership is aware of my concern and issue but I just fell out of warranty based on time as I have now owned the vehicle 3 years.
