The steering on my vehicle gets stuck while driving. There is resistance to turning the steering wheel. This is much worse when the ac is running. Honda looked at my car last year and said they did not detect the problem. I know it is real though as I have since seen that many 2022 crvs have been recalled for this problem. My VIN however was not included so I guess safety is not a priority for Honda. Disappointing. I will not buy another car from Honda.

While driving at highway speeds, when keeping the car in the current lane or when changing lanes, the steering sticks when turning the wheel to the right.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel was sticking while attempting to make a turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the steering gearbox had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
Although this 2020 Honda Cr-v vehicle is not covered by the “sticky steering” recall we are experiencing the same symptoms reported by owners of newer model cars included in the recall. Our dealer says the only fix is to replace the entire steering box at a cost of $3,000. In addition the timeline to get and fix the problem is unknown because the part is on nationwide back order. The car has 60k miles on it. We have just had new tires and breaks installed, a front end alignment and all linkages checked. The problem unfortunately persists. Clearly there is a problem with the steering on this vehicle. We haven’t yet experienced an accident but the car pulls to the left at high speed and takes considerable force to get it corrected. The vehicle could easily veer into traffic in the other or oncoming lane on its own. The ability to recover in time to avoid an accident is questionable. I am unsure if other owners have reported similar problems with this model and year but I believe this is something the agency should be looking into and discussing with the manufacturer. Given the part is on nationwide back order is a clear indicator of a systemic problem.

Steering grabs and is tight then loose. Grabs on highway loose back and forth difficult to control steering back and forth always having to correct to maintain on roadway. The electronic steering box had been recalled on this vehicle but not my VIN number. I had to have the vehicle repaired in order to continue to drive it safely. When repaired the vehicle had 47,199 miles and the cost for the gear box part was over 3,600 dollars and total to repair was 4,373. 00 I see by your complaints I am not the only person to complain about this problem and for safety reasons had to have the vehicle repaired.
Vehicle: 2025 Honda Cr-v sport-l hybrid date of purchase: April 2025 date problem first noticed: April 2025 complaint summary: I purchased a brand new 2025 Honda Cr-v sport-l hybrid in April 2025. Since the day I brought the vehicle home, I have noticed a persistent clanking or metal-on-metal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, especially noticeable when driving over minor bumps or rough pavement at low to moderate speeds. This issue was reported to the dealer, and in June 2025, they attempted a repair by replacing the rear shock absorber and a rear rod assembly. However, the noise returned within weeks, and by mid-July 2025, it has become significantly worse. Now, the clanking sound is loud and alarming, resembling something coming loose or at risk of falling off. It has reached the point where I feel unsafe driving the vehicle, especially on highways or interstates. I am concerned that a suspension or structural component may fail, potentially leading to a loss of control or an accident. The fact that this issue has persisted despite repairs and is worsening raises serious concerns about the safety and structural integrity of the rear suspension system on this model. --- additional notes: the noise occurs whether the vehicle is loaded or empty. It is especially pronounced when driving over uneven roads, minor bumps, or potholes. I have checked the cargo area for loose items—this is clearly a mechanical issue. The service team initially acknowledged the issue and attempted a fix, but the recurrence suggests either a design flaw or improper rear component durability. Given that other owners have reported similar noises and rear-end suspension issues on owner forums, I believe this may not be an isolated case. --- ?? safety concern: due to the intensity of the noise and the sensation that rear components may detach, I no longer feel confident driving the vehicle at highway speeds. This poses a serious safety hazard to myself.
Steering wheel is making a sticking noise. This could become very dangerous. My dealer says my rack and pinion needs to be replaced at a cost of $4,000 the vehicle component has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were and are no signs or warnings of the issue.
At low speeds and at high speeds steering feels sticky not fluid. Sometimes it feels like I have to tug a bit to move the steering wheel. On a long trip this gets to be a nuisance and I feel it makes me overcorrect when steering.
Rack and pinion required repair/replacement. The car has less than 50,000 miles on it. Issues appeared several weeks ago. Repair was just completed because of issues with steering. Repair was done due to safety concerns.
The stirring wheel very stiff it's hard to drive smoothly.

2019 Honda crv. Steering feels sticky. It takes extra effort to make small corrections. Once you get the steering past the 'lump', it steers better for a little while. If you don't, it will return to where it started. It seems to get stuck wherever and whenever I make a correction. I have not talked to the dealer or repair professional but it seems to be getting worse.

The steering sticks while driving and turning.
I changed lanes without using my blinker and the car fought against me on the freeway it caused me fear and concern, I questioned dealer I was told it was okay by dealer he said there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.
Steering sticks in position and requires extra force to correct.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and turning the steering wheel to the left or the right, the steering wheel failed to return to center. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering gear box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Although the incident date is recent (since an alignment was done a few days prior) this issue has been happening for over a year, but is now getting to the point that we are unable to drive safely at highway speeds. Our steering wheel, especially at highway speeds, gets stuck either side of center, pulling the car to one side or the other. The steering wheel feels stuck and has to be turned with effort constantly to keep the car traveling in a straight line. Even the lane assist feature is also constantly having to correct the steering. After a wheel alignment the problem seems to have gotten worse. The steering also does not recover to the center position after making a turn at low speed.
There is an issue with the power steering system. When I turn the steering wheel from a stop I experience resisting or binding feel in the steering wheel. This occurs whether the wheel is making a left or right turn. I also notice this if I am changing lanes in driving. This issue is most noticed after the engine is warm from travel. The steering feels 'sticky" and the safety of the vehicle at freeway speeds is concerning. My Honda dealer has investigated this issue on o9/05/2025 and indicated the steering rack needs to be replaced. This was an issue Honda was aware of back in 2018, however my vehicle was not apart of the recall. I purchased this vehicle in August of 2018 at Honda of covington. This vehicle currently has 59,524 miles and has been regularly serviced at my linda dealer. Some financial remediation would be appreciated.
The steering sticks making the wheel difficult to accurately control. I believe this is the same eps problem that has been recalled in later models.
We had to replace steering gearbox. This was the second time we had to bring the car into the dealer for repairs. Almost a year earlier August 27,2024 brought in for the same issue, at that time the Honda had 61,505 miles. No repairs were done as they had no error codes to go by even though there were other Hondas witl steeringbox issues. As of October 9,2024 1. 7 million in recall. July 5,2025 had steering gearbox replaced at our cost of $4,557. 18. We had a hard time keeping the vehicle on the road as it would drift and violently go from left to right when driving. Other Hondas were recalled but this model year has no recalls yet on the steering box. Ihope that Honda will include this model in their recall as we are having the same problems as other Hondas with steering gearbox. Thank you.
Sticky steering, clicking on turning and needed to hold on tight while driving. Changing lanes on highway felt unsafe like the car would lose control. Car was recently at Honda for a recall on passenger seat sensor for the airbags. During the repair, a tire bulge was noticed and Honda dealer recommended we get that tire replaced ASAP. (manager at lea Honda said not necessary to replace all 4 on awd. ?. ? ) shortly after, the steering problem began whether or not related. We had our reliable private mechanic replace the other 3 tires and found the steering gear box defective and had to replace it and quite an expense. We kept the old one. There have been recalls on the steering gear box and this should be added. 2021 should be on the recall with the others.

Car has been driven only 50k miles and while making right turns the steering clicks and often kicks back . Seems like a problem with manufacturing.
- rack and pinion steering has developed 'sticky steering' problem - steering resistance has created steering difficulty and dangerous driving situation - problem has been confirmed by a dealer and estimate for repair over $5,000 - component has not been inspected by manufacturer, wish they would. - no warning lights prior to failure. Steering my Honda crv 2017 has become difficult and the 'sticky steering' symptoms have also been experienced by other crv owners as expressed on line. This vehicle has become dangerous to drive.

I own a 2021 Honda Cr-v with approximately 47,011 miles. I’ve noticed that when I hold the steering wheel perfectly straight, the vehicle pulls slightly to the right. This happens on flat, level roads and is most noticeable at speeds over 45 mph, especially on highways. At higher speeds, the drifting becomes more pronounced, and the car feels unstable. It seems like the vehicle is fighting against my steering input, which raises a serious safety concern, especially during long highway drives or in emergency situations. I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership, and they diagnosed a failing steering rack, which they say needs to be replaced. The repair estimate is $4,478. This seems unreasonable for a vehicle with under 50,000 miles and no accident history or modifications. The steering rack is a critical safety component, and its failure at this mileage suggests a potential defect. I am filing this complaint to report the issue and urge NHTSA to investigate whether this is an isolated case or part of a wider problem. If others are experiencing the same failure, I believe a safety recall may be warranted. I also request that Honda be required to assist affected customers.
The power steering rack failed making it difficult to steer the vehicle. The problem steadily grew worse over several months and was verified by a dealer service center. Clearly, faulty steering is a safety risk and one that Honda is aware of, having previously recalled 1. 7 million vehicles similar to mine. The dealer merely changed out the power steering rack rather than actually investigating to determine the specific problem (I. E. Opening the power steering gear box). The following is a synopsis of my complaint: 1) Honda produced a defective part which clearly impacted the safety and performance of my vehicle after only 53,000 miles. 2) Honda refused to acknowledge the defect in this particular vehicle despite recalling 1. 7 million others. 3) Honda advised that if the defect is acknowledged in the future, only vehicles repaired by a Honda dealership may be eligible for compensation. 4) Honda technicians, upon performing the necessary repair did not investigate whether the problem was caused specifically by the same gearbox issue that warranted recalling the other vehicles. The faulty power steering rack was not inspected by anyone. It is currently in my possession. There were no warning lamps or messages. There was difficulty steering the vehicle. There was a "sticking" sensation in the steering wheel which grew worse and eventually kept the vehicle from being able to be steered smoothly at speed.
The steering is binding up when turning and there is a clicking noise. I notice this a low speeds. Local mechanic inspected all suspension and drive train parts and said everything looked ok. He did not check the steering. I see this recall for later year models: the steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle. Will Honda extend this recall to cover 2020 crvs as it seems to be the same problem. This seems to be a known defect and should be covered. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.
Sticky steering/stiffness in steering. Steering sticks in place and then when forced the car jerks quickly to either side. This has put my family and others at risk as it is hard to control the steering and causes sudden movements from side to side. No warning lamps or messages appear on the dash. The Honda dealer inspected the vehicle and determined the vehicle has an internal failure to steering rack and will require replacement. Replacement cost is $4,204. 17. The vehicle is one year out of warranty. The large Honda steering recall is for model years 2022 and newer. Honda would not cover this repair under the current recall and will only do so if the recall is extended. I called american Honda to see if they would offer any goodwill and after their internal review they decided against any goodwill unless the recall is expanded as the vehicle is out of warranty. This is our first and last Honda. We will share our experience with our friends and neighbors - Honda seems to not understand what customer service means but they do know how to lose current and future customers.
I have been reading many similar steering defects on the Honda crv. The problem is the steering wheel sticking when trying to maintain the Honda on a straight path. The steering is not fluid! calling the dealership the first time ,I was told ,rather rudely that it was probably the rack and pinion steering gearbox. They also said it was going to cost north of $5,000. 00. After exhausted research of the problem, I discovered Honda has several model recall for this, potentially very serious problem ,including the Honda crv. I found there is a recall on the 2023 and newer. My 2109 is not in the recall. At this point I brought the crv to the dealership to trouble shoot the problem. Sure enough the rude person was right. I needed a rack and pinion gearbox. I was quoted a price of, $5756. 24. This opinion cost me $177. 75. I left and told them I need to search around for a better price, and also try to get this done on a recall. I have contacted Honda customer service. As of this writing I feel I’m getting the run around! but I keep trying to see if they have a soul!!!.
During wet conditions or after a car wash, the steering get stuck and requires force to free it up. Usually resulting in overcorrecting and erratic steering. I believe there is a recall for the same issue on crv models but not in my year range.
Steering rack and pinion of 2010 Honda Cr-v need to be replaced due to leaking of fluid.

The steering wheel sticks especially after being driven for a while. It is necessary to use slightly more force to move it sometimes causing overcorrection. I took it to the Honda dealer and they said eventually the gears will be worn so much that the steering mechanism will fail and potentially cause an accident. There are no warning lights for this issue, and currently no recall. I have not had it fixed because the repair cost I was quoted was $4,300. My vehicle has not even hit 100k miles, and should not have such a dangerous, costly issue already.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v663000 (steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 45,000.
Steering seems "sticky" causing to over correct when turning in the highway and at low speeds. Ticking/clicking noise when turning the wheel. It is consistent every drive.
"sticky steering" is what its being called. I have been dealing with this for several years (after the warranty was out) but over the last 2 months it has gotten worse. While at highway speeds (45+) there is more resistance when trying to straighten the steering wheel causing an over correction and veering into another lane. Problem is known to dealer but has yet to be duplicated by several garages.
My car quickly became unable to be driven safely when the steering started to fail. It started with a feeling of the tires sticking to the road when trying to make small adjustments to position with the steering wheel. I was not able to maintain a straight line drive without the constant small jerks associated with the sticky feeling. The steering quickly deteriorated to the point of barely being able to keep the car on the road because of the inability to steer. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and the driveshaft components replaced, at my expense. I was told that there is a known defect in the 2022 crv hybrids but my VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. There were no warning lamps or messages during the failure.
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and turning the steering wheel to the right, there was an abnormal popping sound, with an abnormal tug of the steering wheel in the same direction. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the electric power steering rack assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,753.
