On may 12, 2012, I was driving about 50 mph when the van started to sputter. I came to a red light and the car acted as if it were about to cut off. The check engine light started blinking along with the vsa light. It rode very rough all the way to the closest Honda dealership as I was not in my hometown. They informed me that one of the spark plugs needed to be replaced. I went ahead and replaced all of them to the tune of $308. 23. On November 23, 2012, I was driving about 60 mph when the same thing happened. The mileage was 105,001. Again, I was out of town and drove the car to the nearest Honda dealership. They said the #3 spark plug had fouled out. I told them to replace only the #3 plug. On my receipt it says, "retreived code p0303. . . Misfire #3 cylinder. . . Found spark plug fouled out. Possible faulty valve seals. . . Replaced spark plug and performed pcm software update. " that cost me $138. 76. On the drive home the air conditioning started to act up. It would run but sometimes it was cold and sometimes the air was not. On November 24, 2012, I took the car to the Honda dealership that I normally use. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with the air conditioning except for a dirty cabin filter. They replaced it and charged me $131. 97. However, they said my brakes were worn out. That cost $359. 68. Then there was the brake fluid exchange, transmission fluid exchange, and power steering flush. All in all the visit cost me $1049. 61. Funny, on November 19, 2012, I had taken the van in for an oil change and they did a courtesy inspection. No mention of brake problem. November 26, 2012, car dead, wouldn't start. They replaced the battery under warranty. December 3, 2012, car dead again. Invoice reads, "a/c clutch relay stuck killing battery making a/c compressor run even when a/c off. " fixed for free due to all the problems.

I was driving my van. It showed no problems at all but the engine light appeared while driving home Friday evening. I had the shop pick it up and check it out on Monday. They found two codes but no support for the problem in the test drive. Approximately 20 minutes after I left the shop, the first sign appeared with my rpm revving up to 5k before shifting into 2nd gear. I stopped at a stop light briefly. When I started to go forward, the van bumped and hesitated before getting in to gear and being able to accelerate forward. This continued at the next two stop lights back to the shop. Since it is my only vehicle and I am a single mom, he had me keep the van until Monday. The car drove fine home and then would not accelerate above 20 mph on the way home from church. Reading a Honda forum informed me this is not a unique situation.

As original owner of 2003 Honda Odyssey engine buying car from weir canyon Honda in anaheim hills California. My engine block light, tcs, lit up at 153,000 miles. I have been experiencing a major transmission problem between 2nd and 3rd gear as car seem stuck and I am unable to accelerate. This is not safe at all since my van can be rear ended when it's stuck in this mode. My mechanic advises everyone from not to buy any Honda as his shop rebuilds Honda transmission all the time and makes a fortune from the poor victims of Honda owners like me. . Read more...
I purchased our 2001 Odyssey van in November of 2000. I used the van only in the city with low mileage about 83,300 miles. Recently, I had my check engine light go on, and sometimes the tcs light to go on and d4 light flashing. I felt the van was slipping in/out of gear and not under control. I had my local mechanic checked the van and told me that is the problem with the transmissions and probably need a whole new transmission. After researching Honda complaints for 2001 Odysseys there is definitely a design problem with transmissions.
My wife was driving home late at night when all of a sudden the check engine light and tcs light come on in her 2004 Honda Odyssey. The van begins to slow down until it will go no faster than 5 mph. Pulling to the side of the road, she turned off the van then restarted it. She was able to get the last few miles back to our house luckily, and we brought the vehicle to a shop just up the street since it could not make it much further. It turns out the transmission needs to be replaced. The shop called Honda, knowing there had been a recall on the 2004 Odyssey transmissions, but Honda claimed that it did the work for the recall and had no further responsibility. I am extremely dissatisfied with this. To know there is a problem with a transmission, "fix" it with a recall, and still have problems with it on a vehicle with under 100,000 miles is unacceptable. I've owned Hondas in the past and never had a problem like this. Matter of fact, I've never had a problem like this with any car I've owned, no matter the manufacturer. My wife and I purchased a Honda minivan because it is supposed to be safe. But to have the vehicle stop working with no warning due to a transmission that Honda is aware is faulty is as far from safe as you can get. I'm just thankful she wasn't on the highway when it went out.

Known transmission failure for 2003 Honda Odyssey. Noted and cascaded by american Honda. Repairs could be done under ?goodwill? at Honda?s discretion. Coverage was extended to 7 years or 100,000 miles. It appears that internal damage could happen beyond the said years/mileage range for warranty repair or replacement. From a consumer?s perspective, it is a clause or language used to leverage Honda?s goodwill discretion. This issue has been made public by the NHTSA, while Honda settled out of court, yet did not take full accountability for the known and validated transmission deficiency. Gear slips between first and second gear in the range of 20-30mph. Engine light and tcs light turns on, as well as the drive light flashing (instead of being solid light). Accelerating after a complete stop is very difficult when crossing the intersections. Repairing the pressure switch on 11/2/11 did not rectify the situation.
We are orig owner of vehicle. In 4/11 had van serviced at Honda dealership. In 5/11 while driving on freeway got a check engine light. Took to repair shop. . . Needed a new transmission. Called Honda (while it was being serviced a tranny shop) and they said if I towed it to a dealership they'd take a look and doubted anything could be done, but they'd look. At that point I would have had to pay repair shop for work already done (near 1000). I see a recall in the news for 2005+ Odysseys but have never been notified by Honda personally. We would like reimbursement for faulty transmission that is a recurrent theme according to the internet with these vehicles.

Check engine light on. Dealer reveals code p0420. They (russ darrow milwaukee, WI) are saying that the catalytic converter as well as an O2 sensor need to be replaced cost $1,200. The current mileage is 110,000 and failure mileage was 91,000 and I am the original owner of the vehicle. Sticking sliding door's in winter (russ darrow & david hobbs milwaukee, WI) have all the serivice records on the sticking door issuse and they where unable to resolve it. Dealer's fix for sticking sliding door was to lube the sliding door every winter instead of finding a solution. This has been on going since 2002 and now I just lube the door's my self instead of wasting my time at dealer's service center.
We are the original owners of 2000 Honda Odyssey (80k miles) and few days back the check engine light came on and the dealer is saying that the transmission needs to be rebuilt and neither Honda nor the dealer would pay any of it. Searching in the web, now I see that there were many such cases- so this seem like a known issue and so I'd like Honda to take responsibility and fix the issue for free or give some financial assist at the least. Is there something I can do to get help? thanks.
I got check engine light on recently for my 2000 Honda Odyssey, with the code p0740. It's really unlucky for so bad transmission problem.

The engine of the vehicle would suddenly shut-off while on the road (local or freeway) with all engine lights lit on dashboard. Most of the time the engine would come back on by itself after 1 to 2 seconds. But occasionally I need to pull over the car to restart the engine. This symptom has been happening almost everytime I drove the vehicle in the past 2 months.
2008 Honda Odyssey van - bought brand new October 2008
3 weeks ago, while driving on the freeway, the engine suddenly lost power, cruising to a max speed of only 25 mph no matter how hard you step on the gas pedal. Have to put on the hazard lights and cruise on the shoulder of the freeway to exit on the nearest ramp and have to drive back home using side streets on a speed of only 25 mph, no more, no less. Brought the said van to the Honda service center since it is brand new and still covered with the warranty. Released after 1 week, and was working on the way home without glitch. Then the day after, upon starting the engine, the check engine light went on, and the motor gives off a weird humming sound and won't accelerate to no greater than 25 mph again. Brought the van back for service and after 1 week was released and was working fine when the same thing happens again as forementioned. Have to let the dealer service center tow it back for service again for the 3rd time and have to demand a loaner car at this time while they ponder (or guess) what's wrong with this van.

Ref: 2005 Honda Odyssey engineer computer malfunction dangerous safety issue 2005 Odyssey touring model 1) lets start with what has happened to this Odyssey engine computer, or engine warning light last three years, two problems so far: a little over one year after I got this Odyssey, the yellow engine light started to come on. Took it to diamond bar Honda, they just reset the light without doing any checking; they told me this is Honda imposed standard procedure. Another few months went by, the engine light came on again. This time Honda care finally authorized the part replacement. 2) I thought things were ok not until the engine light came on again, this time with big amber message stating inspect vsa also. I stopped and restarted the engine, the light went off. On the second day, while I was driving at I-60, suddenly with no warning, both engine and inspect vsa came on again. And the car started to slow down considerably on the freeway. The vehicle slowed down to less than 20 mph with did not response to the gas pedal. I had to immediately pull my car to right side shoulder, almost rear ended by a semi-truck. This is absolutely down right dangerous and un-safe. I could have been seriously injured by this from driving at 65 mph and slowed to <20 mph in few seconds!! however, this is no longer Honda dragging your feet and save cost issue. This is a serious product safety issue now! with this letter, I am officially putting Honda on notice on this seriously safety problem / defect. I told my wife and will inform my attorney that in case I get rear ended on the road, this engine stalling will be the cause of the accident.
Check engine light or check oil light warning lights go on. When dealer immediately checks oil upon arriving at dealership, dipstick shows no oil. This has occurred 3 times since 10/09.
New 2008 Honda Odyssey ex-l minivan / may 28, 2008 took delivery a few days later, in June. Two weeks ago the engine light mysteriously came on for 1/2 a day and then turned off by itself. A week later the tire sensor light came on. On wed ( Nov 12, 2008) while driving my 3 year old & 8 year old sons to school, the throttle started to stick. It did it once lightly - did not respond when I took my foot off the gas. I applied the brake & the car stopped. The engine settled down and we set out again & it did the same thing. We stopped but were one block away from school & the engine sounded normal again, so we set off again. This time, while going up a fairly steep hill, the engine took over and the throttle went on full blast - the regular brake would not stop the car ! I applied the brake- mashing it to the floor & we kept going forward ! I put it in neutral & put on the emergency brake which stopped the car right before hitting the parking lot fence but the engine was screamingly high & I thought it might blow. I shut off the engine with the key & it stopped. We had aaa tow it back to the dealership 30 min later. The service dept. Did investigate & was able to see the engine light error message from two weeks ago - but we were told that it was "an odd unrelated sensor code" that had nothing to do with the throttle. That code was a sensor malfunction & it was reset. The dealership kept the car over the weekend & on Monday we were told that they were giving the car back to us with nothing fixed because they could not track any other error messages & could not reproduce the problem. The dealership called Honda who declined to replace the computer. The dealership asked if they could replace the computer as good will & Honda told them the dealership would assume all risk for liability - so the owner of the dealership declined to replace the computer. We are now faced with this new/lemon car that has a life threatening computer glitch/virus and no recourse.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While traveling 65 mph, the check engine light illuminated and within seconds, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the failure would occur intermittently and the vehicle was taken to the dealer eleven times in regards to the failure. The wiring harness, engine computer and solenoids a-b were replaced twice. The vehicle continued to exhibit the failure and was not further repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage was 65,000.
My wife was driving the 1999 Honda Odyssey ex home on the freeway. We were going home after having dinner. And the check engine light went on,we heard a noise and soon after all the dash lights went on followed by stiff steering wheel, and then the Honda completely shut off. We were able to coast to the side off ramp off the freeway. We tried to restart but the Honda would not restart. I had the Honda Odyssey towed to my regular mechanic. He looked at the Odyssey and informed me that my engine was shot. The Honda has not been driven ever since,it is parked and non operational. I do have a Honda invoice that states that they performed safety recall (ignition switch) repair on my Honda Odyssey invoice date of 8/30/2002.

2003 Honda Odyssey recall 04v176000. The consumer was informed of a vehicle recall through a radio broadcast. The consumer contacted the manufacturer in early April about the recall. The representative indicated that the notices had not been mail yet but would be sent in may. As of the middle of June the consumer had not received the notice. The consumer was told to take the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer if the vehicle experienced engine problems or if the engine light illuminated. The consumer anticipates using the vehicle for a trip during the summer and doesn't want to risk having to deal with this issue and an expired warranty while on the road. The vehicle currently had 33,000 miles.
Rear bucket seat buckle unbolted from its structure without any impact or force being applied. There were problems with the temperature control knob. (the entire heat a/c control panel was replaced), the front brake pads had to be replaced and the rotors had to be cut, the check engine light had come on, and gasoline was smelled each time the engine was shut off.
The fuel filler neck has developed a leak. As a result, the check engine light stayed on, and the vehicle was unable to pass inspection. A leak was coming from somewhere in the fuel filler pipe. The fuel filler pipe was replaced again along with the fuel pump seal and nut.
We were in the first day of a 10 day trip in our 1999 Honda Odyssey. The check engine light and the tcs light came on and then the transmission began slipping. (the van had been in to the dealership for a similar issue with the tcs light and check engine light in may, 2003 and had also been checked out prior to the trip to make sure everything was in good shape). Three hours into our trip, the lights come on and we're dealing with an out of town Honda dealer. We were unable to get a new transmission done in a timely mannerat the out of town dealership and we needed a van due to a disabled child and no vans were available for rent. Therefore, we were left with the only choice we felt we had which was to purchase a new Honda Odyssey (03) at the dealership. After we get home and research this issue, we feel that Honda has been less than fair and honest. We called the 800 number for Honda customer care. What a joke! they felt that they owed us nothing, since we no longer owned the 99 Honda. They are not even acknowledging that they have a problem with the 99 Odyssey in terms of transmission. Their very words were "we can't talk about this. . . There is no problem with the 99 Odyssey transmission. . . It is only your opinion. " in addition, now we have this expensive car payment and are wondering what if this transmission fails us on the road? no longer confident that this is a great automobile company! although we were not involved in an accident, we were tremendously inconvenienced, both emotionally and financially.
While driving, the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard, the vehicle shut down and did not restart.
2001 Honda Odyssey. Consumer request NHTSA review his case concerning warranty and needed repairs the consumer stated the check engine light illuminated and the rear sliding door would not open due to it being stuck. The consumer stated these problems have been ongoing.
Check engine light on, rough sound on accleration at 50 mph.
