When stopped at a red light, the vehicle’s auto off system turned the engine off. When the light turned green and I removed my foot from the brake, the engine stalled and would not restart. I pushed the start button several times, put the vehicle in park, pushed the start button a few more times, and finally got it to restart. Luckily, this happened leaving my neighborhood and not in a more precarious situation. This has happened approximately 20 times now. I’ve had the vehicle inspected by the dealer. They could not replicate the issue, but acknowledged that Honda knows it is an issue. They aren’t willing to fix it until there is a recall on the vehicles. In the meantime, I have a one year old vehicle that sputters and struggles to restart more often than not. I have had the vehicle stall like this after the auto off system turned the engine off when trying to merge into traffic on the interstate. I had a near miss to an accident at that time because the vehicle stalled and would not restart.

The contact stated while the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, however the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact noticed an abnormal knocking sound. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's husband attempted to start the vehicle, the vehicle did restart. The failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the abnormal knocking sound became louder and persistent. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed engine. In addition, the contact was informed that metal shavings were noticed in the oil pan. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced a recall, NHTSA campaign number: 23v751000 (engine and engine cooling) however the contact's VIN was not associated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Approximately 7 months ago, my 2015 Honda Odyssey experienced an engine misfire with code p0302 (cylinder 2). All spark plugs were replaced at that time and the issue appeared resolved. However, the misfire has now returned with the check engine light on, again indicating cylinder misfire. The vehicle only has 71,000 miles on it, which makes this recurring issue particularly concerning. Based on my research, this appears to be a known defect related to Honda’s variable cylinder management (vcm) system causing excessive oil consumption and spark plug fouling — an issue documented across 2013–2017 Odyssey vehicles and addressed under Honda service bulletin 25-061. I am requesting this complaint be on record and urge NHTSA to investigate this as a safety-related defect. ”.

This vehicle comes with idle stop. Many times especially at red light, the idle stop switches off the engine but then it does not restart automatically. We have to switch off the car and then restart it again. This takes some time. In the meantime, it is the panic with cars honking behind us.
Vehicle failed to restart after auto idle stop engaged while stopped in traffic. The engine shut off as expected but did not restart when releasing the brake pedal. A warning message appeared briefly on the dashboard but could not be fully read due to traffic conditions. The vehicle remained unresponsive until I shifted into park and manually restarted the engine. This has occurred intermittently. The vehicle was previously evaluated by a dealer for the same issue, and the battery was replaced at approximately 15,000 miles. The problem has continued to occur after battery replacement. This creates a safety concern due to inability to move the vehicle in active traffic.
At a stoplight vehicle turned off and gave a battery light and vehicle lost all power and placed vehicle in park. A warning message came up very quickly about something wrong with the auto start/stop system on display. Vehicle remained off until after opening door and pressing engine start stop button multiple times along with depressing and releasing brake pedal multiple times. This occurred the first time in late February 2026 then again on 3/21/26. Vehicle has 46,880 miles currently.
There is a delay in acceleration. When at stop light, stop sign, or moving forward after backing out of driveway, we are experiencing a 2-4 second delay in acceleration after putting pressure on the gas pedal. This has caused scary incidents when trying to turn left at stop lights or stop signs. When talking to Honda dealers, they have not been helpful in determining the cause of this.
Multiple safety systems on my 2019 Honda Odyssey elite have simultaneously failed, including lkas, acc, collision mitigation braking system, auto high-beam headlights, and other driver-assist features. The dashboard displays warnings for nearly every safety-related system, and the vehicle disables these features without warning. **detailed description of the problem:** whenever I start my vehicle, multiple error messages are displayed related to the lane keeping assist system (lkas), adaptive cruise control (acc), collision mitigation braking system (cmbs), road departure mitigation, auto headlights, and other safety features. These warnings appear together and persist even after restarting the vehicle. Apparently, this issue is widespread among 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey owners, with many reporting the same cluster of system failures. The problem appears to be related to a malfunction in the vehicle’s electrical system, sensors/ cameras, or control modules. In my case, the failures occur without any external damage, weather event, or driver action that would explain the sudden loss of safety functionality. When these systems fail, the vehicle disables critical safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and automatic headlights. This creates a significant safety risk, especially at highway speeds or in low?visibility conditions. **frequency:** the issue occurs whenever the vehicle is started, affecting my driving everyday.
Engine shutoff/idle stop failure: the vehicle fails to restart after the automatic idle stop engages in traffic, requiring a manual restart. Electrical system malfunctions: car dying at stoplights, loss of power, and, in some cases had to restart in "limp mode" where the vehicle is restricted to 1st gear, not very safe on major highways. Reported this to Honda during service on 3-16-26, they didn’t find anything? has happened 7 times since it was serviced.
Five days after getting back our car from the Honda dealership where they “fixed” the two recalls all warning lights came on and not turn off. Steering, breaking, accelerating all are difficult. There were no issues prior to the dealership “fixing” the recalls. The car was just at our mechanic for brakes and they check our engine, fluids etc every time. There were no prior issues.
Following replacement of the small block in Dec. 2025 for bad pushrod bearings. The vehicle ran for 3000 miles, before the engine seized up again while driving at 50 mph. The vehicle came to a stop in the travel lanes and could not be moved due to engine failure. Upon having the vehicle towed back to the dealership for inspection and repair, they found that the #3 cylinder had both valves broken and metal pieces shavings found in the engine. The dealer claimed that this was not related to the previous replacement of the small block as they did not work on the headers. However I believe the original issue of the bad pushrod bearings caused poor oil flow to the headers and the valves were already worn before the Dec. 2025 engine seizure. The dealer has now replaced the small block (for a 2nd time) headers, intake manifold, injectors and timing chain.

While driving on the highway, the engine light came on and off. Pulling over, I inspected the engine compartment and heard what I believe was cylinder knocking, but could not obtain an engine code with an obd code reader. Oil was of sufficient level as it had just been replaced within 1,000. After this I attempted to drive it to the dealership, where on going 45 mph, I pulled to the right lane for emergency police vehicles and when the vehicle was stopped, the engine stopped and seized up. After not being able to start the vehicle, I could not find the neutral safety switch to put the transmission in neutral to move the vehicle from the flow of traffic (turns out the switch is not readily accessible and is on the side of the transmission underneath the air intake and battery compartment. Police officers pulled behind the vehicle and assisted me in getting a tow truck to take the vehicle to the dealership for inspection. At coggin Honda in jacksonville, the vehicle was inspected and the engine would not turn over manually by the crankshaft. The engine was deemed to have catastrophic failure and would need to be replaced at 126,000 miles. This vehicle is a 2018 which is on TSB 24-003, however is not listed on the applicable vins. This TSB is for connecting bearing rod failure which would lock this vehicle’s engine the way the dealership found it. I believe this to be the issue as several Honda engines have had this failure. The vehicle was maintained per Honda’s maintenance programs and even had an extended warranty of up to 100,000 miles which when the TSB the vehicle was underneath that mileage and would have been covered by Honda if they had released the full list of vins for that year to be inspected instead of a sub list of vins of the production. Honda needs to be investigated to see if that TSB needs to be expanded since 2023-2024 timeframe other users have had a similar failure and seized engines.

Noise coming from engine. No engine light nor warnings otherwise. Van was taken to dealership where it was confirmed that a rod bearing inside the engine assembly is faulty, which could cause sudden stalling of the vehicle, even while traveling at high speeds on the highway. This is a known issue (Honda service bulletin 24-003) with this model van manufactured at the same time, for which a national recall notice was issued. However, my vehicle’s VIN was not included in the recall.
After stop at traffic light with air conditioning on, the auto idle stop system engaged. When the brake was released, the engine stalled, able to be restarted after 5-10s. Problem exactly matches nhsta investigation ea25004.
The car will shut off at stop lights and randomly not start back up when the light turns green, then it will take a few minutes to start back up using the push button, this only occurs with the automatic start stop feature of the car my wife drives the car with our two young children and being stuck in intersections randomly is not safe for anyone ,. We have told the dealer about the issue and they have failed to duplicate the issue and said nothing is wrong,.
This vehicle is a 1 year old (2025) Honda Odyssey with roughly 11,000 miles. On two separate occasions now, the auto start-stop feature has caused the engine to die altogether. On both occasions, the vehicle stopped at a red light in a busy intersection, the auto start-stop feature turned off the engine (intentionally), but when the light turned green and my foot came off the brake and onto the gas pedal, the vehicle died entirely. A number of lights and an error message illuminated on the dash board. From my online searches, it seems as though this is a very common issue. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? auto start-stop / engine. No not available. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? having your vehicle die at a busy intersection or stop sign is a huge risk. It can cause others to try and swerve around you, or it can cause someone not paying attention to rear end you. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the vehicle will be brought to the dealer in the coming days. Unfortunately this is my only vehicle and I cannot afford to lose it for an extended amount of time, therefore I have to prolong inspection and servicing. The issue has happened to me twice, and has happened to countless others online. According to others on the internet, the dealers are typically slow to address this issue, and even when "addressed" the issues seem to continue. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no, see #3. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warnings prior to the engine cutting out altogether. Only a message after the failures. In both cases I do not remember what the messages said because I was scrambling to restart my car in a busy intersection.
I’m experiencing issues with the auto idle stop system. The engine fails to restart on its own after a complete stop. I get an error message and I have to manually restart. This has happed at stoplights and in the middle of an intersection during heavy traffic which is a big safety issue.
Several times, I have been driving, and the auto stop shuts the engine down, then it will not restart. This has happened on a very busy state route in the middle of an intersection, while I have my young children in the vehicle. This is very concerning and a mojor safety issue for us.
The contact's girlfriend owns a 2022 Honda Odyssey. While the owner was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle, and the engine seized. The message to pull over to the nearest fuel station was displayed. The contact stated that the tow truck driver attempted to start the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to start. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was scheduled to be towed to the dealer the following day. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.

One week ago, I was driving on a highway, accelerating to the 65 mph speed limit on that road, my van's accelerator completely stopped responding. Despite pumping the pedal repeatedly, I was unable to control my speed at all, and the car continued to lose speed. I had my three children in the car at the time, and given that people regularly go in excess of 70 mph on that road, I was in danger of not being able to exit the road and/or being hit. I was able to coast off of onto an exit, and the car started responding at speeds of 30 mph, but it was lurching and jerking while driving. We immediately had the vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic and have been advised that the transmission needs to be replaced. There were no warning lights for this failure. The car also had an incident about a year ago where all lights came on and it stopped responding. At that time, we had Honda dealership examine it, and they said they could not find any issues. Additionally, the car has been jerking slightly while shifting, but the issue improved when we had the transmission fluid flushed at the Honda dealership again about a month ago, and no issues were noted by them at that time. We have performed regular maintenance and safety inspections on this vehicle.
My car’s power system is totally off twice suddenly ( around 4:00pm & 8:30pm) when I completely stop at the traffic light. Cannot re-start the car, cannot open the rear doors, cannot turn on the emergency light to warn other cars. After waiting for a a few minutes, the power is back, I can start my car again when my car totally loss power at 8:30pm and cannot turn on the emergency light at night, and cannot open the rear doors for kids getting out the car. It is very dangerous to the passengers.
The vehicle was stopped at a red light. This vehicle is equipped with an auto-start/stop system to save fuel. Once the red light turned green the engine refused to restart. This was the second instance. The vehicle took over 30 seconds before it would restart. None of the push-to-start buttons worked, the car would not recognize that the brake was pressed, and it had also shifted itself into park. Very dangerous while traffic was moving all around us.
My 2019 Honda Odyssey is currently diagnosed with a connecting rod bearing failure, which matches the safety defect in NHTSA recall 23v-751. While my VIN is excluded, I am reporting this as part of the NHTSA investigation pe25-008. For several months leading up to the failure, I noticed a faint, repetitive knocking sound coming from under the hood. During my regular service visits to authorized Honda dealerships (including a visit in December 2025 at approximately 80,000 miles), I mentioned these unusual noises and asked the technicians to verify the vehicle's safety. On at least one occasion, repairs were made to the steering system to address noises, but the engine knocking persisted and eventually worsened until the rod bearing failure was confirmed in January 2026. This defect presents a serious risk of sudden engine seizure and loss of motive power at highway speeds.
While driving, the check engine light appeared and the vehicle began running rough and hesitating during acceleration. The engine experienced a noticeable loss of power, which created a dangerous situation in traffic and nearly caused an accident when attempting to accelerate with surrounding vehicles. The vehicle was taken to a Honda dealership for diagnosis. The dealership confirmed a failed fuel injector on cylinder number four and a catalyst efficiency fault code (p0420). The dealership explained that the failed injector may have caused improper fuel delivery and contributed to damage to the catalytic converter. The dealer also indicated that similar fuel injector failures are addressed in Honda service bulletin 21-010 for this model year. However, my vehicle was not included in the VIN range covered by the bulletin even though it is a 2019 model and uses the same fuel injector part number referenced in the bulletin. The issue was confirmed by an authorized Honda dealership and the recommended repair was replacement of the fuel injector kit and catalytic converter. Honda corporate declined to fully cover the repair costs despite the similarity to the known issue described in the service bulletin. This engine malfunction created a loss of power while driving, which could present a safety hazard in traffic.
I bought this van brand new for over $53000 and it has been hesitating to start for months. I had the battery tested and came back good. The van hesitates to start and sometimes I have to redo the push button because it fails to start the first time. Yesterday, 02/23/2026 the van left myself and the kids stranded at walmart. It would not start for anything yet the lights and radio work and acted like it was not the battery. I had to call my husband to come get us. We went back hours later to jump it and it started. Something is faulty with the started or electrical system to start it. I have another appointment to test the battery and I know its going to test good because I just had this done a month ago and it still hesitates to start. I am not impressed at all and readying online that I am not the only one having this problem. It needs looked into.
Honda has a known defect with the engine of these vehicles. Specifically the 2013 that I own. I contacted them years ago when their first warranty extension expired because I was never contacted and my vehicle exhibited symptoms right after expiration( bulletin 13-061). Now they have done it again with bulletin 25-061. It expired Jan 2026 and they never notified me, if they didn’t tell me they didn’t tell others. This is ridiculous and they should be ashamed and forced to fix my vehicle. This is a $6000 dollar repair due to their oversight. I contacted them in the past and my vehicle is actively registered so I should have gotten a notice for this available extension. Honda should be held liable to fix this. I have had this vehicle serviced by Honda for other things so they have my information and know this vehicle exists.

Engine failed while driving, will no longer start. Mechanic believe it is either connecting rod or main bearing failure. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer and will be sold to another person as is. No warning lamps or messages were present prior to the failure and didn't appear until after the failure.
My 2025 Honda Odyssey has had trouble turning on since it has been about 9 months old. It doesn't always turn on from being off. It doesn't always turn on when the vehicle is already on and the auto-start-stop system turns the engine off. More often than not it struggles to start but eventually does. I took it in for service and the dealership replaced the battery. It continued to not start. The new battery did not improve the symptoms. I scheduled another appointment for service and the dealership kept lying and gaslighting me into believing that they did something to improve the symptoms. They claimed to have updated the computer system software/firmware versions. I asked which ones were updated and they said that none were, it was all up to date. They claimed to have "reset" the auto-start-stop system. I asked how that would improve performance when the vehicle doesn't start from being off as well. The vehicle is unsafe to drive. It turns off at stop lights, stop signs, in medians when I am trying to make turns. The engine not restarting in parking lots from a complete stop is also very concerning. I hate and fear my Honda and I am scared to drive it. I have taken it to multiple dealerships to get it fixed and none will do anything. I have a video recorded after this occurred at a red light. The video shows the status of the vehicle and attempts to restart it. This was recorded February 19th 2026.
After a drive, shut it off, walk back to car within 2 minutes, car wont start. It cranked but failed. Never happen in cold start, but always after a drive. Happen about 8times in 9,000 miles and is more and more frequent now.
See attached document for complaint.

Vehicle intermittently loses propulsion during acceleration when merging. Engine rpm remains low despite throttle input. After a delay, transmission re-engages abruptly with a metallic scraping noise. This creates unsafe merging conditions. This happened today, 2/14/2026 in 4 instances in the same trip. It has also occurred approximately 50 other times over the past six months when the mileage was as low as 66,100 miles.
Over a period of the last several months when the auto idle stop engages at intersections (red lights, stop signs, etc) the vehicle will intermittently fail to restart. The vehicle stalls entirely and goes into a state where you are unable to restart the vehicle for anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes. This is a very dangerous situation and each time have had other motorists honking and frustrated that the vehicle is not going when the light turns green. The vehicle is currently at the Honda dealership for the third time to attempt to repair this issue. The first time it was returned to me and I was told no issues found, the second time (after multiple more failures on road) was told the battery was faulty. The battery was replaced but the failures to restart continue. I can see that there are many claims of this same issue with Honda, however in our experience with this vehicle, very little has been done by Honda to solve this major safety issue.
This is in relation to investigation pe25008. The engine in my 2018 Honda Odyssey elite failed at 91,307 miles due to a connecting rod bearing issue, despite perfect dealership maintenance.
While brake pedal depressed and car coming to a stop at a traffic light, car surged forward as engine revved and hit another car in front of it. Brake pedal was depressed the entire time.
