2010 Odyssey w/ about 70k miles. Engine started misfiring. There was a recall on this, but Honda is saying it expired, and I am not eligible for cost coverage, and the repairs only have a 50% chance of fixing the issue. I bought the car used in 2019, and they say the recall expired 8 years after make year. I was driving my family to the beach and it began struggling to accelerate. White smoke was coming out exhaust.

The vehicle has been diagnosed as missing on 5 of 6 cylinders. Driving performance is greatly impaired. The vehicle misses while stationary idling and while operating in motion. The exhaust blows soot on the passenger rear end and side of the van. Fuel economy has dropped to about 18 on the hwy. Honda declines to make the repair until it displays dtc code. Dealerships advise that it is compensating for the misses currently. This van is included in the class action lawsuit for 3. 5 engines made by Honda. Even with it being a known issue and their own mechanics diagnosing the missing they have set requirements that prolong repairs.

2011 Honda Odyssey. Consumer states problem with vehicle engine concerning oil leak and burning smell
the consumer stated at approximately 6,000 he began to smell an odor of burnt oil when parked with the engine running. The smell was coming through the air vents. The consumer reported it to the dealer, where they found a loose oil filter. Within a day, the consumer smelled the burnt oil odor again. The consumer went to another dealer, where they placed uv dye in the engine to help determine the location of the leak. They determined it was caused by an oil drain bolt not being tightened to the manufacturers specifications. Soon after the appointment, the smell returned, and the next morning there was a small amount of oil on the garage floor under the engine. The dealer replaced the oil pan, gasket, crankshaft and main bearing bolt. All to no avail. The dealer stated whatever the cause, the smell was from oil leaking onto the hot exhaust pipe. In fact, burnt oil residue was found on multiple places along the exhaust pipe. The consumer stated the vehicle has been to the dealer five times in an attempt to fix the problem.

2006 Honda Odyssey exl (69,659 miles) - broken rear motor mount, special design motor mount ($556. 43 for part and $685. 21 installed). Unusual and very expensive repair for a car with relatively low mileage. Have not had to replace motor mount on any car since the 1970s. Car has always been serviced by Honda dealer and no prior indication of any problems when under warranty. Deep rumbling noise, similar to a hole in an exhaust pipe, from front engine area was only symptom. Based on reports on internet, broken motor mounts are a very common and expensive problem with Honda Odysseys (and accords). This is the fifth Honda and the third Honda Odyssey that we have owned and have never had any major problems until now. Had I been aware of this motor mount problem I probably would have bought a Toyota van. Despite the unwarranted bad rap that Toyota suffered recently for acceleration problems that are just as common in general motors cars, I have not had any problems with the four toyotas we have owned, and Toyota did far more than they probably had to to address the alleged problem. My next car will not be a Honda.

Honda is not taking responsibility for transmission failure while driving in I-25 highway with my family the car was stopped and due to less traffic I was saved. I called up the Honda America on the next day and their support person told me that they dont have procedure in place to figure out transmission failure and they cannot help in terms of even goodwill repair. I have also told the nightmare of transmission failure and we all have been killed on highway. The people in Honda said--sorry to hear that but we won't help you neither we are supposed to give you any explanation. This is a great surprise to me that they have 100% failure in customer service and they lack really a transparent information system. I want really make Honda accountable for their manufacturing defect or they should give a reason of transmission failure. They cannot simply say they are not suppose to do this. This is my very frustrating experience with Honda America people--you can't even talk to somebody to help. This is not acceptable.

The 2002 Honda Odyssey with 67k miles showed "check engine" light & was immediately taken to nearby mechanic, who identified the code as p1491 & asked me to take it to the dealer for coverage under 8yr/80k extended warranty. The dealership & american Honda company refused to cover it saying it was 45 days over the 8 yr warranty period, even though the 67k miles is under the 80k. There was no notification to me in the last 8 years about this possible problem, nor was there any check done on numerous services with the Honda dealer. Now the traction control system light shows up randomly, which is considered a possible safety hazard. We had multiple phone calls with american Honda & appointment with Honda dealer & they are refusing to consider it Honda's issue, inspite of mileage being significantly low.

I drove my car to Honda dealer in hillside , NJ for check-engine-light on. Its service rep gave me codes po 700 & po 740 for transmission problems. He first gave estimation of around $4000. I immediately told him no, not to fix it. He then said to check Honda for cost. I drove away and he called me for a quote of about $2100. I said no when he gave me cost of $4000 because I decided to sell the car and buy a new one. I told him to order the part when he called me later on because he could fix the problems at $2100. Dealer had transmission changed on 3/8/10 , and the next day (3/9/10) the same check-engine-light came on within 24 hours. I drove back to the dealer. I was so disappointed that the rep guy told me that anything could cause the light on, and the technician gave a different code. I was then told it was not cheap to fix it. I questioned why they did not give me all the problem codes and costs in the beginning. I would have made decision to trade in instead of spending $2200, and then being told more spending to come. I went in for the check-engine-light on and I came back for the exact same problem within 24 hours. Why wouldn't I sell it before I put in $2200? the service rep guy had such a bad attitude by kicking out problems and pushing away responsibilities. He said dealer did not manufacture the car and insisted saying my car was 10 years old. The service manager, requested the technician to reset the light, and said hopefully it would not come back on again. Im aware if a problem exists, light will come back on sooner or later. And inspection wont go through when such a light is on. As predicted, same check-engine-light came back on the 3/10/10 within 48 hours. And I called the manager, he said it was going to cost another $875 plus tax. I didn't expect a transmissions problem before 100k miles for a japanese car. I am very disappointed.

2001 Honda Odyssey transmission failure at about 100,000 miles of routine driving on a vehicle that was held to a better than average maintenance schedule. Honda issued a recall, but did not inform me of its existence, despite the fact that I regularly visited a certified Honda dealer for service, and now the vehicle is out of the recall's time/mileage parameters.
The "check engine" light came on (a $1,500 repair) for the catalytic converter replacement and the transmission had to be replaced (at 93k). Apparently these are both increasingly common problems in this model. It's hard to believe that my van carries the Honda name. Then I started googling and found many sites reporting the same horror stories here I realized that many of these vehicles were manufactured with faulty parts and may be a lemons as well? the prospect to paying $100 every time the check engine light turns on is not a pleasant one. Vehicles built today should not require transmissions & emission converter at a mere 93,000 miles. I have been very disappointed with the reliability of my Honda Odyssey. The brand is considered highly reputable and has a price premium (and supposedly a resale value) to match - but my experience with the Odyssey has been one of repeated mechanical break downs and poor performance as many owner have written and blogged. I feel helpless and know Honda is powerful corporation who will do nothing . . . We need your help to protect consumers of these practices. Thank you for your time.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. The dealer advised the contact that by refueling the vehicle, it could have triggered the light to illuminate. Later, the vehicle began to show signs of abnormal violent jerking. The vehicle was later taken in for diagnostic testing where she was informed that the transmission, catalytic converter, stabilizer and links, front motor mount, right side motor mount, and alignment all needed repairs. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The current mileage was 116,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

I am a member of the 05' Honda Odyssey growling club. I started having a vibration - growling noise in the driveline @ 60 to 70 mph and @ 2000 rpm. This started 7 months after ownership and 9900 miles later. I have also noticed on the forums that may other complaints on this same item - I have taken into shop three times and both dealerships state that all the noises are normal. Sound appears to get louder - is that normal??.

While on a roadtrip, the check engine light went on. Dealer replaced egr valve because there was a piece of metal stuck on it. On the return trip, the check engine light went on again. Mechanics at the dealer have found large quantities of metal in the engine. Mechanics have not seen this problem previously and is currently communicating with Honda engineers regarding this matter.
A Honda 2003, gets very bad gas fumes in the car when starting the car. Has been going on for 2 years. He has 4 small children.
6. Coolant system continued from odi #760344. This left splash shield loose, vibrating & at risk of coming off, causing risk of accident/injury. Is it possible to require that Honda service personnel attend additional in service training on automobile coolant systems? so that consumers are not exposed to preventable hazards, examples being: breathing coolant fumes, injuries from engine overheating, slippery surfaces & environmental dangers to underground water supplies from coolant run off. 7. Right/left sliding doors-right/left sliding doors fail to open upon pulling of handles as designed. Three times our vehicle was returned to dealership for above complaint, after service bulletin 00-0091 was issued before repair was completed as per bulletin. I have spoken with a number of other Honda lx owners who stted they have same problem with being unable to open the sliding doors. When they took vehicles to dealership door seals were lubricated, but problem continues to exist. This is a safety issue as these vehicles are used to transport children to & from school and because the sliding door won't open, children must enter area of traffic flow to enter vehicle, increasing risk of injury. Sliding doors can & will oen while vehicle is in motiion, due to inability to fully open/close sliding doors via handles as designed. 8. Transmission-I complained of grinding noise when vehicle accelerates from 40to50mph. Rpm's go up to 2000 upon acceleration, after reaching 50mph, rpm's drop to between1500 to 1700 and grinding is heard. Explained to dealership numerous times & test drove with service advisor, was told he heard nothing & vehicle was operating as designed. After final repair/vehicle defect notification inspection/repair was performed, vehicle continues to have grinding noise at 50mph & was returned to us with tranmission shifter inoperable in d3, 2nd & 1st drive gears. We are notifying you of what we feel are the dangerous conditions in which our vehicle is in.
The check engine light comes on every time the gas tank gets below 1/2 tank. The dealer staes that they or Honda can not determine why this is happening. They are changing parts, but can't figure out why the light keeps coming on.

Problems with vehicle dome lights dimming briefly. The purge control solenoid cycled off and on repeatedly, the a/c blower motor speed decreased and various dash/dome lights dimmed for approximately 10 seconds then revert back to its high speed setting and original brightness. There was a grinding noise that had come from the transmission which was repaired.
