The car is currently registering individual cylinder and multiple random cylinder misfires. When starting- the engine will vibrate excessively for a short period of time then will even out and run normally. At idle, the engine will experience mildly excessive vibration. I have taken the car to several repair shops and have replaced coils and spark plugs. One repair shop mentioned a valve timing control code on their diagnostic equipment. I took the car to an official dealer for the manufacturer and they did not identify this code. The dealer indicated that a valve adjustment was needed. I then retrieved the car and had an alternate dealer for the manufacturer diagnose the issue. This second dealer service department also indicated that a valve adjustment was needed. The valve adjustment repair was performed. The car drove normally for a few days then began reand an gular moderate to heavy vibration, the 'check engine' light flashed on and off then eventually stayed on continuously. The car was returned to the dealer who had done the valve adjustment and the dealer indicated that the car engine needs to be replaced or that both head gaskets need to be replaced. I found that there was a class action lawsuit filed against this manufacturer related to valve timing control problems leading to cylinder misfires and engine failure with an extended warranty offered as a result. I called the national corporate offices and inquired if this warranty applied to my vehicle. They advised that there was an extended warranty related to the issues I had described but that the VIN for my vehicle was not listed among the warranted vehicles. I was told my only option would be to file a complaint to see if the nhsta could require the manufacturer to include my vehicle under warranty for repair as the warranty resulted from a lawsuit related to a known design issue with the car.

The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and then driven to waldorf Honda (2450 crain hwy, waldorf, 20301). The dealer stated that the engine failed and needed replacement. Initially, the dealer stated that the repair would be covered, but later stated that it was not covered under the class action lawsuit. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

1. Brakes and rotors are undersized and warped causing a massive vibration when you break. Honda dealers worked 3 times on it but the problem continued until I purchased after market parts and replaced them. 2. I received no warranty letter or warning about an engine failure (piston recall warning) letting me know that the engine needed repairs. I was on a trip when the car almost stalled on the freeway and I had to take evasive actions to prevent a devastating accident.

Letter from senator burr on behalf of constituent john acquaviva re 2010 Honda Odyssey third engine failure prior to November 2017 for Honda to correct the issue. The consumer stated the engine must fail a total of 3 times for the same defect before November, 2017. The engine failed a total of 2 times. The first failure did not meet the manufacturer's guidelines due to the repair not being serviced by a Honda mechanic. The consumer requested that the failure be repaired regardless of the deadline and another engine failure. Updated 08/23/2017.

12/23/13-while driving on i95 at 65mph the vehicle engine shut off without warning but the radio/lights remained on, vehicle became difficult to steer and brakes had to be pushed to the floor, vehicle came to a stop on the side of the road approx 300 feet later. Vehicle restarted and was driven to dealership, dealer stated could not be replicated and that fuel system needed to be cleaned, service performed as suggested. 12/25/13- while coming to a traffic light, engine shut down without warning but radio/lights remained on, restarted and drove home. 12/26/13- while approaching stop sign vehicle engine failed but radio/lights remained on as in accessory mode, steering and braking became difficult to control vehicle, this time the engine light came on and remained lit. Van was towed to dealership to be repaired. Dealer stated no error code although the engine light was visibly on, no obvious reason for the vehicle to do this. Dealer suggested replacing engine control module at their expense. Repairs have not been completed yet as they are waiting on the part to arrive. During these failures there was no warning and little time to react, the van became near impossible to steer as if the steering wheel was locked when in the anti-theft mode after parking. The vans brakes although pushed to the floor did not respond immediately even while traveling at low speed.

My 2002 Honda Odyssey's engine has shut off while I am driving 2x in the last 3 weeks. The first time was during a right hand turn at a light. The second time was as I was about to turn at a light. There was no warning to the engine failure. The engine just shut off and all of the dashboard lights came on. I am afraid that this could happen in traffic or on the freeway with terrible consequences. I immediately took the car to the dealer after the 2nd incident and they couldn't replicate it. I don't know how they thought that it would just happen on cue now after occurring for me 3 weeks apart. They returned the car to me with no help. Also 3 weeks ago, I smelled a burning rubber smell in the cabin. They said this was something rattling in the ac and replaced the cabin filter. I personally feel that this problem may have led to the stalling issue-a short or something. I have read several other people complaining of the same engine failure issue on and edmunds. Com website.
