2 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2019 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

Upon startup of the vehicle, a strong burning smell was sensed. The vehicle was briefly put into a slow reverse to take it out of the garage and a very rough idle started, black smoke appeared out of the tail pipe and every possible error message appeared one after the other on the dash. The vehicle was then briefly put into drive for a couple inches forward back into the garage with very little power on acceleration and an even stronger burning smell. The dealer was contacted and advised having the car towed in to be evaluated. Upon evaluation the dealer advised that the issue was a leaking fuel injector caused by a faulty fuel rail design from the factory. The injector leak caused too much fuel to be put into the cylinder causing the spark plugs to fowl out. The dealer stated Honda was aware of the issue also in 2018 models and they assumed they would have corrected the fuel rail design for the 2019 model. The dealer then advised that they could not make any repair until the redesigned fuel rail was released a month from now. The vehicle was purchased new 2 months ago and currently has apx 5,000 miles. The fact that this was caused by an error in the fuel rail design from the factory indicates the problem likely has been causing damage and posing a safety risk of possible engine fire from the leaking fuel injector the entire 5,000 miles of ownership. Also, it is unknown how the leak may affect the engine in the future due to the leak and design flaw persisting since it was sold new from the factory.

3 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/18/2016

I never had any major problems with my van up until this point. The check engine light would come on and go off from time to time and I took it in for a diagnostic check each time and it was the same code for catalytic converter. My car ran well and then suddenly, while taking my kids to school on a city street, the muffler began smoking when I would either idle or drive. It only did this the night before I brought it into the shop and the day of. It would hesitate also. I felt like it was going to die at any minute, so I took my kids to school and brought it to the shop immediately. The mechanic then told me I did not have a drop of oil. This seemed strange because I had never seen a leak (I park in the same place at my house). He tested my car for a leak and did not detect any. Some people suggested that the oil change place forgot to put oil in my car. That is highly unlikely since I had just gone to have my oil topped off about a month before. I had also driven it for about 2500 miles since then. Because of the lack of warning, I have to replace my engine. . . It is shot.

4 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

I noticed an oil leak on the vehicle. When taken to the mechanic he found that the spool valve is leaking. The Honda dealer informed us that there are no replacement parts available. The oil is leaking on the exhaust manifold and is a very possible fire hazard. This is a family vehicle and this issue is a very serious one.

6 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

With no prior warning the vehicle began smoking out of the tail pipe. When pulled over, car was smoking under hood and all fluid poured out of the bottom. Had car towed to mechanic. "blown or cracked" head gasket was his diagnosis. Had car towed to shop to have repaired. After two weeks in the shop, the mechanic informed me that the car was still leaking antifreeze into the oil and that there is a porous leak somewhere in the engine. This car is not abused and I have regular oil changes with fully synthetic oil. This is just icing on the cake. I was excited to purchase this vehicle because Honda has such a great name. In the summer of 2009 I had to repair the air conditioning ($900) and replace wheel bearings ($300). This was just a few months after I replaced the tires for the first time ($2000). (purchased vehicle used in 2008 w/ 35000 miles) in 2010 it was time for tires again (not even 20k miles later). I depaxed them for $2000 and am still running on this same set of tires. It seems that the engine problem is a defect with Honda and from what I am reading, they will not take responsibility. I have not contacted Honda in any way but was curious if it would matter.

7 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

After having the vehicle just 6 weeks the vehicle experienced the following problems: 1. Brakes began to get softer and would not engage till almost to the floor 2. While waiting at a signal the car engine appears to be revving up and shaking 3. Rattling noise emanating from the muffler linkage 4. Low fuel warning light comes on when gage is still at â¼ tank. Of grave concern is an incident that occurred last Friday, August 8, 2003 while my wife was taking my son to celebrate his 6th birthday at summer camp. This is what happened: after making a turn on a steep hill my wife proceeded down the hill. While going down the hill the brakes completely failed to operate and the following lights illuminate on the dash , battery, oil, door open warning lights. The engine was still on and she had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. We were very fortunate that there was no accident, the vehicle was not going fast and we were able to bring the vehicle to a stop. My wife was extremely frightened and upset by the incident. She was almost in a very serious accident! we had the vehicle towed to beaverton Honda who advises us thus far they could not duplicate the problems. You can surely understand our concerns with this vehicle, especially if there appears to be nothing wrong with it. We would like Honda of America to take the following steps to protect our family and it's brand: 1. Provide us with a loaner Odyssey until& (2) 2. Exchange our Odyssey with the same exact vehicle from a different factory or fully refund our purchase.

Failure Date: 07/29/2003

Vehicle fire while engine was turned off and parked. The consumer had backed his car into the parking spot, and the tail pipe was jammed into the mulch. The blocking of the tailpipe caused the heat of the exhaust to start the mulch on fire spreading to the plastic bumper of the car and into the car. After the accident occurred it came to the consumer attention that the tail pipe was defective and the dealership should pay for all expenses and repairs made as a result.
