Passenger seat airbag sensor malfunction. Started on 21 June 2019, I started my car and noticed the red airbag dash light on and the passenger "airbag off" light out. A few days later, I started my car and the red dash light stayed off and the "airbag off" light was working. It works off and on till this day; weight some times influences it. Most of the time it is unresponsive and the dash light is on. Dealership diagnosed it for $100 and confirmed it was the $1200 passenger seat airbag sensor.

Same problem as others. "air bag" warning stays lighted no matter what. Research shows that people are discovering that it's the passenger seat sensor and that the repair is $1000. They have recalled this same part on sonatas (same year) but not he Accents. We're told that none of the air bags work if this light is on. Please help!.

Airbag error light came up suddenly at about 125k miles and stays. The code read is b1448 - the malfunction of passenger occupancy sensor. The remedy suggested was to replace the passenger seat, which will cause expensive $1000+. This make/year/model should be on recall list and Hyundai should fix the issue for the customers since this important safety issue popped up without any fault on customers part.
My younger sister and her passenger turned left leaving the hospital headed south bound on nst traveling through the green light a car coming east bound came through the red light and hit my car. Both cars went spinning out and then shut off. I was a car behind them so I jumped out of my other car to check on her to make sure they were ok. After asking that I called 911 myself and someone else. When the fire department and ambulance arrived they checked them out and determined that my sister needed to go to the hospital but before they left they ask because of the damage they ask about the airbags and looked to see if they didn't deploy and they hadn't. They left and then the police came they took statements from witnesses and checked for the airbags also at that time they informed me that I need to speak with my insurance and call Hyundai. I did dobboth of them when I spoke to Hyundai they then gave us a representative name larry bane he then informed me that they needed to do an inspection on the car. The inspectors name is tom. Tom then spoke with me about the way things work and that he needed to tow the car to a Hyundai lot to use their machines and computers. He did that and a week later he call to tell me that the report he submitted 4 days prior had been corrupted at the Hyundai office and he needed to do another inspection but this one he didn't need to tow it for this one. Long story short they called the city and told them the car was abandoned and had it towed the same day they informed that the airbags sensor acted accordingly it wasn't hit head on and that the car needed to be hit right by the license plate which was knocked off in the crash and everything was smashed in. They are trying to cover up this airbag problem so they don't have to recall this car like they did with the sonatas and their airbags. I need help.

The passenger seatbelt airbag sensor wire was caught and cut in normal use of the car, while it was under warranty. When I brought it in, they said that it was not covered under warranty, and so we have taken it to a 3rd party mechanic to fix it. When he ordered the replacement part through Hyundai, the replacement part has alterations which fix the problem that caused the issue. So they know about the problem but won't fix it. When it is broken the car doesn't know that there is a passenger in the car and so the airbag would never go off.

Received error code b1448. Which is defective passenger seat sensor. Other Hyundai cars in this year with this same code have been recalled. Why not the Accent. Because of this the passenger airbag will not work. Repair for this sensor is almost $1000.
I have a 2006 Accent. I recently found out it needs a passenger seat sensor panel replaced in order to fix the airbags. (that is, make any of the airbags work) I just now learned I haven¿t haven¿t had airbags for 2 years. !!!! (actually our kids haven¿t --our sons had the car at college, driving home on the interstate for 2. 5 hours - with no airbags) the light was on. First 2 years ago. I asked my mechanic. That mechanic never alerted me that I had to go to a dealer. My current mechanic did - so we went to the Hyundai dealer, paying their $80 service fee just for them to tell me it will cost me around $960 to fix it!!! I know from forums that other people have had this problem and we have all been told its a $1000 to fix. Just the part is $700+!!!! I also read that Hyundai had airbag problems with 2006 sonatas and fixed them. Why not the Accent???? why don¿t you have to stand behind a faulty part on multiple cars? I have read of many people having this issue. This is my dilemma: if I sell the car I hate to sell a car with out airbags and I will not lie to the buyer. If I keep it I have to fix it ---for our safety. But put $1000 in a car that is only worth $2500???.

I purchased a car in colorado spring in 2008(my state of record) and currently I live in germany working for the us army. My airbag drivers¿ seat sensor doesn¿t function properly, because the sensor shows red and the car wasn¿t even five years old when the system malfunctions. I contacted the Hyundai dealership in amberg, bayern, germany and scheduled an appointment. They tested the airbag system which I already knew it, but they were not able to pin point the location of airbag sensor that was showing error on driver¿s side. The problem is they cannot even locate the part of the system on Hyundai factory catalog with the computer data base. The Hyundai specification for the us or european car airbag system shouldn¿t be different under consumer protection law. The company is concerns about the transmission & pollution and provides warranty; but seat belts or airbag system it¿s not even included in the manual.

Around 75,000 miles, vehicle is 4 years old, airbag sensor went off (no accident or anything). I brought the car to the dealership to have it looked at. Came back estimating roughly $1,200 repair to replace the passenger side seat. I told them it is probably just a blown fuse and to check for that, they refused and said they've seen the problem before and that the repair is not covered under any warranty and that it was likely my fault due to a spilled drink. I've never spilled a drink in this car or even left the windows open. Therefore, the problem is most likely due to faulty wiring. I refused to pay the $1,200 repair. Now I am writing this because I am likely to fail inspection and will be forced to repair it. I want to increase visibility of this issue.

Seat belt light came on again. This was the third time. About 2 years earlier this happened for the second time. The first time was about a year earlier and Hyundai covered that. Code b1706 appears when read for $150 and Hyundai will not fix it even under their extended warranty. They did not want to fix the first two times either. I do not know if my airbags work. Hyundai has sensor problems and knows it. This is the driver seatbelt sensor. They want $702. 00 to fix this defect. I will not pay for their bad engineering. This problem needs a recall. Their oxygen sensors also seem to fail on the engine. They will not cover that either. All of these failures are federal mandated items.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated the passenger air bag lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the air bag sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not covered by the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 74,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that the passenger air bag would not engage when the passenger seat was occupied while driving 5 mph and up. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the passenger seat cushing was replaced but to no avail. In addition, the failure was also occurring with the driver side air bag. The dealer replaced the driver side seat belt buckle but was unable to locate a failure within the passenger air bag. The dealer test drove the vehicle with the passenger seat occupied. The passenger air bag on light was illuminated therefore, the dealer advised the contact that they were unable to make repairs to the passenger air bag. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 22,730.
I was traveling on a south outer road where the speed limit was 35 miles per hr. I drive a Hyundai Accent 2005 and this 1995 Dodge ram pickup failed to make a turn on the roadway and came in direct path of my car. But the impact was in the middle of my car toward the passenger side in which the impact dented my license plate in half and my air bag did not deploy at the impact . I had my seat belt on and I hit my head on the steering wheel , in which later on I had a bad headache and went to the emergency room and they said I had a mild whip lash. The police report said he was going too fast for conditions. Can not understand the impact of the front so severe that my airbag didn't deploy. The auto body has my car at this time and they are waiting on the insurance company to total it or not.

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that the air bag light was illuminated on the driver side. She took the vehicle to the dealer, but they did not recognize the error codes and just turned off the air bag light. The contact was informed that the vehicle was safe to drive. In December of 2007, the light illuminated again. The service department cleaned the connection and cleared the codes. On January 14, 2008, the failure recurred a third time. The dealer cleared the error codes and ordered parts for the seat belts, which regulated the air bag sensor. The light illuminated again a couple of days later and the dealer installed the part for the sensor. Next, the passenger side air bag light began illuminating intermittently. When the contact who is 5'7 and 118 lbs would sit in the passenger seat, the light would illuminate. The dealer stated that they could not provide weight regulations (the weight someone should be for the light not to illuminate). They further stated that they could perform a diagnostic on the vehicle. Consumer affairs stated that the air bag sensor should engage at 130-140 lbs, while another representative stated the air bag sensor should engage somewhere between 90 and 120 lbs. Another department agreed with consumer affairs regarding the weight. As of January of 2008, there was moisture in the tail lights, which could cause poor illumination. The dealer replaced them, but informed the contact that the failure may recur. In addition, the battery failed and the dealer stated that there was something possibly draining the battery when the vehicle was off. The battery was tested and appeared to be fine. The current mileage was 11,070 and failure mileage was 3,452. Updated 05/12/08 the thermostat and gasket were replaced. The check engine light illuminated. There was condensation in both tail lights, a noise was heard when shifting into reverse, there was a rattle/clunk when turning corners. Updated.
I purchased a new Hyundai Accent on 07/17/07 and discovered on 07/18/07 that the airbag sensor for the front seat passenger will not activate for a passenger that is 5'7" tall and 115 lbs. The airbags (front & side) will not deploy in the event of a crash because the sensors installed in the seat do not recognize a person of this stature. The vehicle was brought in for service 3 times for the same problem and in an independent study done by dealership management, 3 out of 10 times the sensor did not detect a person of this stature. This was tested on a floor model in the showroom with the same results. Hyundai engineering department has refused to proceed with a claim for defect and stated to me that a person of this size needed to ride as a backseat passenger. They advised no further action would be taken and determined the sensor was working within manufacturer's guidelines. There is no written guideline for weigh standards and this is clearly a safety issue that I refuse to accept. Updated 01/11/08. Updated.
I purchased a 2007 Hyundai Accent on may 12, 2007. On the day I purchased the vehicle I realized that the passenger air bag would not activate when my fiance sat in the seat. We pointed this issue out to the salesman , and he suggested I bring the car in on Monday to get the sensor checked out. I brought the car in to the dealership service department on may 14, 2007. The service department could not find any problem with the sensor. Later that day I had my fiance sit in the passenger seat again the sensor still did not recognized her as large enough to activate the air bag system. I went back to the dealership service department on may 17, 2007 to have them look at the sensor again. They indicated that there was nothing they could do because their system showed the sensor as operating properly. I then called Hyundai manufacturing consumer affairs office to discuss the problem. Hyundai manufacturer's current position was that the sensor was functioning properly. However, I have done some research on the compliance requirements for the advanced passenger air bag systems. The results of my research showed that my car was not in compliance with either of the testing methods available for the manufacturer to use. I was awaiting for a final response on the problem from Hyundai.
: the contact stated while the passenger was seated in the upright position, the airbag activation light illuminated intermittently. The passenger weighed 114 pounds. The dealership could not duplicate the problem, and the manufacturer was contacted.
My 21 yr. Old son was driving home at aprox 2:53a. M. Lost control of his 2006 hyundi brio and crashes the front left side and later followed though to another wall impacting it sideways . The fontal airbags did not deploy and he later died at hospital of severe abdomial trauma , ribs puncturig both lungs. As a father how can I know if the first impact was strong enough to make the airbags deploy and if there have been recalls for problems concerning airbag deployment failure. The model of the car was Hyundai brio.
While driving the air bag warning light illuminated. Dealership informed the consumer that there was no module installed. The cause of the problem was not determined.

On January 17, 2003 the air bag light illuminated on the vehicle when it traveled over a minor bump in a paved road. The vehicle is under warranty. I started and drove the vehicle to the dealer 1-22-03. The dealer stated the battery was defective and I declined to buy their battery but bought a new battery for the car which exceeded the specifications of the oem battery. The battery was installed. Upon traveling back to oreilly's auto parts to return the old battery for a core exchange, I hit a minor bump in the pavement and the air bag light has illuminated again. The problem occurred with the new battery and recurred for a second time when the car hit a minor bump. I note that other 1999 Hyundai's have been recalled for a defect in the wiring harness that causes this light to illuminate. I do not know if all Accents have this problem but this one definetly does and it can be recreated. Don cavenaugh motors is discouraging repairs by alleging an old battery can cause the light to illuminate which is false, and by not fixing the problem. Now I must take the car back for a second repair meanwhile I am having to drive it with the air bag light on. I believe that Hyundai and their dealing are falsifying service records so that they do not reflect a problem with the air bag light as this is a safety defect. My repair ticket says "air bag light" and states customer declined recommended repairs and stated he would get a battery from wal-mart. This repair ticket miss states the fact that there is a definite problem with the air bag. Also, when Hyundai customer service was contacted they made a blanket denial that there were other customers with this problem. Even with good quality, it would be normal for a few cars to malfunction. I believe other Hyundai Accents have defective air bag wiring harnesses just as the other 1999 Hyundai models already recalled and this defect poses a significant risk of increased bodily injury should an accident occur.
