1 Air Bag problem of the 2020 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

Airbag light turned on my dashboard and when I took it to the dealership -regional Hyundai in broken arrow in oklahoma I was told by the rep that helped me that there is a defect in the passenger airbag and that it would cost me about 1700. 00 usd to fix it. If I chose not to fix it then if I get into a car wreck the passenger airbag would deploy, this is a risk hazard for lives and there is no reason why a fairly new car, 2020 should have issues with the airbags. This is a potential risk that passengers should not experience in the case of an unfortunate wreck.

2 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 06/11/2025

The passenger seat airbag seat sensor does not work properly. The sensor wiring gets loose making the airbag system not work. It’s a common problem in this make and model. So I don’t understand why it hasn’t been recalled yet.

5 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 12/30/2023

The airbag srs light started to blink on and off and now stays on full time. I took the car to the dealership and they ran diagnostics and got code b1440 and b1774. They stated the entire passenger seat cushion must be replaced with the mat sensor. This is a common problem per this website and there is no recall issued for some reason. Please investigate this issue as it was a common problem with earlier models 2006 through 2011 and later models are still having the same issue. This is a costly fix and it is suspicious that this sensor failed right after the warranty expired.

6 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 12/20/2023

October 2017 I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Accent. During my very first month driving this car right bumper clip broke. As I was under warranty took car in complained to the dealership. A tech came out and basically wacked it back in place. So now I notice both left and right sides of bumper are off track. My son is a licensed mechanic. Before I took it back to dealership he had checked and said mom your clip is broke. So he looks back under it again and now both clips are broke. On 9/13/17 go back in. Hyundai notes in my paperwork clips are broke but failed to repair again at a little over 30,000 miles they note it again and failed to repair. This is a safety issue and I feel it should be a recall. The clips are cheap plastic and if it comes off I fear I will be in an accident. I have also been throwing pods module defect codes and they just keep resetting it. This air light and OCS mat defect has shown up since I first purchased the car. So for 6 years code just keeps getting reset. After calling Hyundai they are finally going to repair it. So my family has been endangered for 6 years. I'm also throwing a catalytic code and that's been going on since a little over 50,000. I called a local Hyundai dealership and was told warrenty only covers a certain part of the converter. I'm at 79,000 and fed mandates say manufacturer must cover it up to 80,000. I don't know what to do and all codes just keep being reset. Car is currently undergoing a fuel consumption test as it's been eating oil like crazy since a little over 50,000.

7 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 11/16/2023

Once my 2015 Hyundai Accent reached 80k the airbag light came on. I took into the dealership for them to look into and found that the passenger side air bag sensor failed and needed replaced. Cost of new sensor was $1000. 00. Did some research on the issue and found that air bag sensors are failing on the passenger side for many Hyundai Accent owners. I believe some reported to this very agency. I plan on having the sensor replaced, however wanted to report the issue and the amount of reports on forums and reports to the NHTSA in hopes that it will be recalled so that future Hyundai Accent owners can be aware of the issue and protect their passengers.

8 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 10/10/2023

My airbag check engine light kept going on and off for a couple weeks. A diagnostic was done on it at the auto repair shop and they told me the pods module came back with an error. They said with this malfunction none of the airbags will deploy if there's an accident, which is a huge safety risk. They said it will cost $2500 to fix but Hyundai had an airbag recall out where the airbags will not deploy in an accident, it just didn't include 2017 Hyundai Accent. I believe this may be part of a recall, that 2017 may need to be included in the formal recall. I have an appointment scheduled with a Hyundai dealership to get another diagnostic at the end of November but I'm sure they will say the same thing is wrong. I just want to see if 2017's are actually part of the recall and save other people the trouble of driving a faulty car and having to pay over $2000 for an issue that's actually a recall. This is my family's only car and I won't be able to afford to fix this issue right now, so I'm worried about using the car with faulty airbags and risking everyone's life.

9 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

The car facing air bag light on few days ago. 10 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

This reports a recurring safety restraint system (srs) airbag warning light issue for no apparent reason other than potentially defective components. Please investigate this! any issues with the srs system of a vehicle by default puts the safety of the vehicle's passengers at risk. The srs airbag warning light first turned on randomly in June 2023 and remained on for a few weeks every time the car was on or being driven. (I am the second owner of the car, and this happened a year after purchase; I do not know if the original owners also had issues with this srs warning light. ) this srs warning light turned itself off randomly a few weeks later. I had scheduled with a Hyundai service dept. To diagnose the issue for the price of $184. 50 but ended up cancelling since the srs light turned itself off 2 weeks before my appointment. The rough phone estimate by this Hyundai service dept. Said that depending on if it is a sensor, control module, or something else, it could cost between $500 to $3000 to resolve. I was told that an issue with the srs would not be investigated/covered by the manufacturer original warranty. (but srs is a non-maintainable system so should work properly for the lifetime of the vehicle. ) the srs airbag warning light remained off until on Dec. 22, 2023, when it turned on again randomly. It stayed on again (anytime the car was on or being driven) for a few days then turned off randomly again. The srs airbag warning light turned on again 1/26/24, then turned off on again on 1/29/24. It turned on again on 1/30/24 and is still on (2/1/24). This recurring srs light issue indicates an urgent, underlying issue with the srs system that has occurred randomly, without warning or reason, to my vehicle and to others with this vehicle according to this NHTSA web site. This srs warning light issue suggests that the srs system may not be working properly and could case the airbags to deploy incorrectly, or not deploy when needed, which is unacceptable.

Failure Date: 05/20/2023

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated while driving 32–33 mph, the rear of the vehicle was shaking, and the vehicle stalled. There was smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the system needed to be reset. There was an unknown fault with the air bag. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to shake, and the driver was able to pull over. There was an abnormal odor of smoke detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the same local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred nine days later. While exiting the garage, the vehicle stalled. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 20,000.

17 Air Bag problem of the 2022 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 09/24/2022

My car, a 2022 Hyundai Accent sel, left the right lane I was traveling in on a highway and continued into the left lane, then onto the left shoulder, and finally stopped in a ditch. The airbags did not deploy. I am having the steering column checked and airbags checked as I have read on several websites online that this is one of the recalls on my car (the steering column may loosen and may cause a crash). The insurance changed the at-fault clause to not at fault after they verified the information online about the steering column being defective. My car is still in the auto repair shop, 38 days, still awaiting parts because the car was not made in the USA. The damage is $13,197. I do not see this recall reported on this website. There is a recall for parts missing on the seatbelts, I had that fixed on my last oil change. I do not see this listed here as well. I received a recall notice about the seatbelts, but I did not receive a notice about the steering column. The auto body shop will tow my car to Hyundai to check the steering column after my car is fixed as they told me Hyundai would have to fix this. The airbags did not deploy. I have read other people have reported this happening to them. This is not a recall issue reported, but rather a complaint. No warning signals or sounds went off when my car pulled left and brought me to a ditch. I was extremely lucky not to get hurt.

18 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 09/05/2022

Airbag light turns on/off. Had dealership investigate and found that it is related to the occupancy sensor mat in the passenger seat. Code was reset (no work performed) and remained off 7 months and now is back on. Could be related to weather (comes on more frequently during fall & winter). Dealer states it is a b1767 code and will need OCS mat replaced.

19 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 08/24/2022

The airbag light in my vehicle has been randomly turning on and off sporadically, several times a month. When I had my local dealership check the codes, they reported that there were several passenger-side airbag related codes that were stored and that they didn't know why they were going off at all. They were able to observe the light turning off and on at random. There have been no other known issues with the car. This airbag issue occurs when I am driving, parked, with someone/something on the passenger seat, and without. The codes stored were the following: b1764, b1767, b1493, b1603, b1490. Dealer notes were: "cleared codes and tried to get them to reset and would not reset put 100lbs in pass seat and buckled it and went on test drive no codes pending no light on moved seat front and back no codes. Unable to further diag".

20 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 07/06/2022

The air bag warning light comes on frequently while I am driving and the passenger side air bag does not always turn off when there is not a passenger sitting in the passenger seat like it should. 22 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Hyundai Accent

25 Air Bag problem of the 2022 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 12/13/2021

Instead of a simple seat belt warning light staying on when the driver's side belt is not connected, the car uses a complicated system: "the seat belt warning light will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds each time you place the ignition switch to the on position regardless of belt fastening. However, if the seat belt is unfasted, a warning chime will sound for approximately 6 seconds. If you continue not to fasten the seat belt and you drive over 6 mph the warning light will stay illuminated. If you continue to drive over 12 mph the seat belt warning chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the corresponding warning light will blink, etc. " worse yet, as far as I can tell, the front passenger seat belt when unfastened will not show at all! the passenger side airbag light is on showing the airbag is not engaged about 50% to 75% of the time when that seat is occupied when a lumbar support "seat" is used. Instead of a simple sensor based on weight, Hyundai got "cutesy" and uses some sort of "electro-magnetic" sensor which is awful when my wife is occupying the passenger seat. I would hope you would require Hyundai to do a "fix" and install a simple sensor based on weight which is how, I believe, every car I've owned previously works. The wife has a back problem, hence the use of a lumbar support "seat" is required.

26 Air Bag problem of the 2010 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 10/09/2021

The air bags randomly stopped working. I was not in a collision or near anything that would have made my air bags deploy or stop working. I have two air bag lights that are staying on to let me know that the airbags are not working. I had a mechanic do a free consultation and he could not find anything wrong with the airbags besides the airbag being faulty.

27 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 09/15/2021

Car was hit in the front right broadside hard enough to break the axle, but the airbag did not deploy.

28 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 08/16/2021

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the electronic stability control and air bag warning lights remained illuminated. Additionally, while driving 53 mph, the cruise control would not deactivate while depressing the brake pedal. The cruise control feature eventually became inoperable. In addition, while operating the vehicle the braking system was slightly activated causing the vehicle to drive rough. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.

29 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 08/08/2021

The airbag warning light comes on and won’t go off. According to the Hyundai dealership it’s just a faulty mat on the passenger side but they are claiming it’s a $1400 fix.

30 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 07/02/2021

Randomly have the passenger side airbag light go off on dashboard then an warning light in gage cluster for air bag issues will come on.

31 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 06/07/2021

Since I’ve had this car, there has been an issue with the airbag light appearing on the dash and the light that illuminates the passenger airbag isn’t lit during this time. It seems to be caused by the use of the passenger door. Sometimes it works as it should and other times it doesn’t. Dealership won’t do anything about it because there is no code. So if someone sits in the seat, I won’t know if they are safe or not in an accident. This is a safety issue and should be fixed.

32 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

Airbags didn't go off in a serious crash. Hit a ditch going 40mph and rolled several times.

33 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 09/21/2020

Airbag light on. Dealer pulled codes b7614 and b1490. Ocs fault in mat. Recommended replacing OCS mat in passenger seat. Airbag light turns on when weight in passenger seat vacant, or does not reach weight threshold. Light usually turns off when passenger is in seat. However, vehicle could not pass state inspection with this occupant detection system malfunction.

34 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Not exactly sure when but my passenger airbag off light started to randomly appear and never turns off despite there being a passenger. Also my back seats would not latch closed, creating an unsafe riding time for a child in a booster seat. Which is a huge concern because I frequently provide rides for two young children my air conditioning unit becomes so hot that my feet are literally burning me. I end up taking my socks and shoes off due to how hot it gets. The motor for the engine is incredibly loud despite the small amount of miles. I have issues with accelerating from stop.
