Brakes complexly failed while I was driving with brakes being pressed completely to floor. I took it to a mechanic beside my home immediately . Both break lines were leaking gushing brake fluid. Hyundai recalled this same exact problem on their 2011 Santa Fe but when I notified Hyundai of my brake failure they informed me that my VIN number was not part of the recall. Also there were no warning lights on when this occurred ! I will upload an actual image of leaking brake lines when I return to the repair shop. Vehicle parts reference numbers per Hyundai are 58722d and 58718f. Repairs estimate is approximately $665.

The brakes failed as I was backing out of my driveway. This vehicle was purchased and used by my son in the metro new york - new jersey area. It is involved in the Hyundai recall campaign #124 because of a concern with corrosion since it was operated in 'the salt belt' for many years. (I obtained the vehicle from him and it has been in florida for the past few years. ) I believe that the same corrosion from road salt attacked the brake lines on the vehicle and caused this failure. This could have resulted in serious injury or death had I been on the highway. The aaa automobile club driver who picked up the vehicle for transport to my service station noted that he has repeatedly seen this problem with the sante fe model. I believe this is an issue that NHTSA should investigate so that others in the class can be spared injury or death. Aside from the inconvenience and loss of the vehicle's use, I had a direct expense of $455. 59 to make the repair.

The left front coil spring on my 2005 Hyundai sante fe broke while taking off from a stop causing the left front tire to blow out and the brake line to be damaged. It was brought to the dealer the spring, on the right hand side of the vehicle was found to be broken as well. Both front springs, left tire and brake line were replaced. I asked the service writer at the dealer if he's seen this before and he said he had one other time. This issue should be looked into with the sante fe's as these parts should not have broke on a vehicle with 40,000 miles on it, as well as if I were at highway speed I'm quite sure there would have been a bad accident.
