Vehicle has 57,000 miles, I was driving down the highway and the engine lost power and would not accelerate over 40. I stopped at gas station and filled up. When I started the car again it seemed ok, got back on the expressway and heard a loud noise and engine stopped. Had vehicle towed to dealership and they said the engine is blown and it needs a new engine. Only has 57,000 miles so should be under warranty. Dealer gave me a loaner and I drove home. . Car died in michigan, they towed the car to greenbay wisconsin to the nearest dealer, and I live in chicago. The dealer called a few days later and asked for all oil change documentation. . Most of it was in glove box which they found, had oil changed at Hyundai dealer in illinois in March of 2020 right as pandemic started , car had 45,383 miles at that time. Dealer did not use synthetic oil according to receipt which is strange because manufacturer requires synthetic. Could not a more recent receipt but did have oil change one more time about 6 months later, again during pandemic. Dealer said that oil looked sludgey and they denied the warranty claim for the car. They billed Hyundai 18,000 to put a new engine in my vehicle and Hyundai denied the claim. Dealer said he would put a used engine in the vehicle for $7,920. 00 with a 1 yr warranty. We declined and the dealership said they would now charge us for the tow and 30. 00 a day for use of the loaner. We live 200 miles from the dealership. They asked us to return the vehicle or they could come pick it up, the car is close to the mileage that they cannot sell it as a new car and want to keep mileage down. They told us on Feb 5 that the could not come and get it until Feb 10 and that they would bill us 150. 00 for 5 days it would take them to pick up the car. We see that there have been many engine recalls on Hyundai and we think ours probably have same issues.

Was driving around 20mph on a service road, when I heard a loud noise from under the hood. All the dash lights turned on and the truck shut off. No power steering and no power brakes. I put transmission in neutral and coasted towards side of the road. Tried to start, but nothing happened when I turned the key. Had towed to dealership. They said total engine failure. 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe 3. 5 liter 2wd. 69,900 miles. 10year/100k mile warranty. Original owner. All maint. Has been performed. They are declining warranty due to "exceptional maintenance neglect". We have provided them with all the documation. They declined it twice. Now I'm being shoved off to Hyundai lawyers.

While driving down the highway Wednesday afternoon I heard a loud bang and I assumed that a rock had hit the side of my car. When I got home I checked but did not see any dents or scratches on that side. That evening I drove my car again on the highway and it stalled out while I was driving. I pulled over to the break down lane and turned it off. After about a minute I turned it back on and it started up fine and drove just fine the rest of the night and the next day. On Friday when I started driving down the road it made a very loud noise, which was a constant loud noise. I turned around and brought it home and called my mechanic. He checked the car and said that the engine needed to be replaced, which would cost more than what the car is currently worth. The car has less than 130,000 miles on it. I bring it in every 3 months for oil changes and make sure to do all of the recommended repairs.
Ok from the start first let me state ive never had any problems what so ever with my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe limited ultimate 3. 3l awd none nothing so this was very strange because ive always maintained the vehicle oil changes every 3000 miles everything. So here we go one afternoon about a month ago I just happened to start my Hyundai with the door open and when I started it I heard a sound for like 2 seconds. The sound of an engine that was low of oil that tap tap tap I really could not believe that I just heard that I mean really could not believe it, it doesn't leak anything its never did that before. When I get the oil changed they don't say it was low on oil so I'm very dumbfounded at this point theirs no oil on the ground were it gets parked so I don't know why it did that. So I check the oil and sure enough it's low so I find out what kind of oil it takes and put 1 and then 2 and finally 3 kinda woundering and kinda in shock so to speak. Well the next day I checked the oil and it was still were itvshould be and had to drive to san diego from long beach were I live and it's not the first time I've made this drive mind you. So im off no lights on dash no smells no noises o smoke thinking cool so after passing throu oceanside I thought I'd get something to eat so I decided to take the first exit after oceanside camp pendleton so I get off and before I stop for the light the vehicle stalls what the this has never happened before not thinking anything bad because again no lights on dash no noses no smells no smoke no nothing. So I tried to start it and nothing try again and nothing lights on but does not want turn over. I have no idea what's going on because no lights on the dash came on theirs no smoke no loud noises or anything before it stalls just nice and quiet no smells nothing just the car getting real quiet. Well I tried a couple more times best regards eric.

My 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe was being driven on the city streets at a speed of approx. 30mph when the engine starting making a loud noise in the engine. Found the engine has a bent rod. The car has 110,000 miles and has had a regular oil change ever since we bought the car. Has anyone else had this problem. All other vehicles I have owned or own now last well over 200,000 miles. Had to tow the vehicle home 80 miles. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. Never had a warning this was about to happen. Thank goodness he was on a city street. .

We bought our 2012 Santa Fe with 68k on 8/29/16 from the Hyundai dealer. On Saturday (8/19/17) the vehicle completly shut off while driving onto the highway (92k). This experience was terrifying. Once the vehicle came to a complete stop, I put it in park and managed to start the vehicle again (the dash board didn't display any light) and drive it home without any further issues. On Sunday 8/20, the vehicle shut off when accelerating from a complete stop, again the vehicle started and we were able to take it home. First thing Monday 8/21, I drove the vehicle to the Hyundai dealer for troubleshooting. They spent 2 hours and weren't able to to find anything wrong with the vehicle. As I was drive off from the dealer, the vehicle shut off once again. I went back to the service area and stated that this vehicle was not safe to drive. They proposed that the crankshaft would be a good starting point for the shutting off issues. They kept the vehicle from 8/21 thru 8/24. They wanted to test the vehicle after doing the repairs. I picked up the vehicle on 8/24 at 4:30pm. I was told the vehicle was all set and safe to drive. I was charged $357 for parts and labor. On Friday August 25th about 6am, I was driving this vehicle to work, while the car was on the freeway (about 50mph) I heard a loud noise coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle lost power and I pulled over to the side of the freeway. The vehicle was making a lot of noise and did not wanted to move at all. I turned it off and had the vehicle towed back to the dealer once again that morning. I just recieved a phone call today (8/29) that the engine was blown on a perfectly well maintained vehicle. There is no warranty coverage from neither the manufacturer or dealer and we are being ask to pay 5. 5k plus taxes for a replacement engine in need. This bad engine should be cover by the dealer or manufacturing.
I was driving down the highway when the car cut off. After coasting to a stop, the engine wouldn't restart. Towed it to the Hyundai dealership in spartanburg, SC. They charged me $110 for diagnostics after which they told me it was my battery. I was driving home (nc) when it started making a horrible noise. I drove it to the closest Hyundai dealership where they told me the motor was blown.

There's always a 2-3 seconds hesitation in situations where acceleration is necessary. After 2-3 seconds of hesitation after stepping on the pedal for acceleration, the car revs and produces high pitched and loud sound with no acceleration or accelerates abruptly. Quickly merging into highway, making turns, changing lanes from a full stop and slow movement feel like playing russian roulette. Hyundai service center always claims they cannot replicate my complaint and my concern is ignored.

All events occurred while vehicle was stationary. Began to have a intermittent no start condition around the third week of January 2016. Theta 2. 4 engine #165130 would not turn over. A jump start with 2nd vehicle battery supply and jumper cables were needed for engine to run. Tested the battery voltage output on Santa Fe with engine cold 12. 65 and engine running 13. 96 to 14. 02 range all starting and charging components were operating in normal conditions and no check engine or battery indicators illuminating. No signs of engine malfunction was evident. On 01/29/2016 after having two more no starts went ahead and replaced the battery with brand new one. Engine would crank but not start. Tested voltage on battery, alternator, starter, ignition and fuel pump relays. Had spark on all coils and fuel. Air filter was new. Felt confident there was no need to check compression as there were no mechanical signs present. At certain times some engine components due wear out so I had a mechanic inspect the engine and asked him to replace the crankshaft sensor. Engine would not turnover after several attempts and he could not determine the cause. On 01/30/2016 connected my obd2 and got a total of 11 codes, p0445,261,267,270,264,448. Five out of first eleven were displayed twice except p0448. I had the car towed to a Hyundai authorized service dept on 02/02/2016 the service adviser at frank Hyundai advised me his mechanic performed a compression and leak down test and informed me engine had low compression in 3 out of 4 cylinders with active codes p0223 p0445 and p2106. One cylinders was said to be blowing air up towards valve cover. I was told they suspected piston rings or cylinder head was cause of engine failure. Had car towed home. After finding blown fuse I was able to start car but shut it down immediately from loud noise coming from valve train rotating assembly. Unknown symptoms.

On 3 separate occasions my vehicle would rev up the rpm's and then slow way down and vehicle paused for about 5-10 seconds then reengaged. Also, the engine seems accelerates and slows down on its own, doesn't feel like taking fuel at times. My complaint sounds similar to NHTSA id# 10744564, however, my vehicle did not make a loud sound from underneath. I have had my 60000 mi service completed and issue presented afterwards. Luckily, these 3 incidents happened on low volume traffic streets. I have had service after at different Hyundai dealers without explanation.

Below is the report sent to Hyundai on July 15, 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV being probed for sudden power loss -- reported by associated press July 10, 2013. We purchased a Santa Fe sport at the end of November 2012. On January 2, 2013 with only 1018 miles on vehicle, our Santa Fe experienced essentially the same problem as described in the referenced article. A loud noise occurred (as if running over an obstacle), the engine lost all power and died. Upon restart, the vehicle would not move either forward or backward in reverse. After setting awhile, we were able to very slowly drive the car about 500 to 1000 feet to the dealership. Ruddell dealership was unable to repeat the experience. I now do not trust the vehicle and want it thoroughly inspected to determine if it too has a cracked axle as noted in the newspaper article. We have a road trip planned in early August and do not want to drive this car until it is thoroughly inspected. I took the car to ruddell auto on July 10 and showed them the associated press article but they did not offer to do anything about it. Ruddell said they would have to wait until Hyundai issued a campaign or recall but that is not satisfactory or acceptable. The car now has about 7400 miles on it. The dealership from which we bought the car is ruddell auto in port angeles, washington 98362, USA. Please contact me and inform me what Hyundai intends to do regarding this serious issue. If I do not receive an acceptable reply from Hyundai, then I, too, will report it to NHTSA.

I've owned 2 Santa Fe's in a row (2001 & 2004). Both had engine failures around 60,000 miles (both on freeway). The 2004 failed at night in the middle of the arizona desert- these both presented me with a very serious safety hazard. I was driving at 70 mph when the engine lost power and made a terrible noise. I end up getting towed over 150 miles to Hyundai dealer. Small block failed and was replaced in both- Hyundai covered the 2001 but only covered 35% of the 2004 (86 miles out of warranty). Never buy Hyundai's again!!!.
On June 12th the vehicle started to rattle and proceeded to shake. The vehicle would not accelerate but instead decelerated on 695 towards towson. The vehicle was drifting at 25 mph. I then proceeded to the nearest exit which was bel air road. I proceeded onto this exit when my vehicle shut off losing all power. At this time my dashboard lights were on. I had no power but my vehicle was still in gear and I safely stopped my vehicle in a shopping plaza. Engine failure
new engine placed into my vehicle
July 5th the vehicle was taken back to thompson Hyundai by my father. The mileage out was 25,593. Thompson Hyundai forgot to screw down the engine properly resulting in loud noises from the engine. I placed another call to thompson asking for documentation of the service rendered. I then noticed another screw which was not secure on the engine. In addition, I would be bringing the vehicle back to get the documentation and to get the steering checked. Thompson never wrote up a service slip for the screws. July 8th the vehicle broke down. The vehicle was towed into thompson again. I placed a call to thompson and spoke with gary welch. Gary states there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. we cant find anything wrong with you vehicle. Hyundai representative paid my vehicle payment for the month my car was in service. April 1, 2004 the vehicle was towed in after stopping on 695 toward essex 2 miles before the 95 north exit to new york in the left hand lane. The vehicle jerked and proceeded to slow at a rapid speed. Warranty claim submitted.
