While driving on the hyway at 65 the engine seized and broke the engine block spraying oil onto the hot exhaust almost catching fire. This engine has been very well maintained and gave no warning signs of haveing a problem. A connecting rod bearing starved for oil and broke the rod. Hyundai was contacted and declined to inspect or investigate this engine failure and almost catching fire. They also declined to help with the repairs or costs I spoke to maria at Hyundai corporate and my case number with Hyundai was 17260696 also the avaliabillity of the replacement engine is limited to a short block because Hyundai does not have enough engines to replace them all that are going bad sadly my car is one year off from falling under the engine recall so im stuck footing the bill.
Driving on interstate 80 applied break as traffic in front of my was slowing down. Car continued to slow down failed to accelerate. Pulled off interstate called road side assistance. Car was towed 160 to the nearest dealership. Had to rent a car to follow my car to dealership advises by rsa that I could not ride with tow driver. Advised by by service manger the next day that car is not driveable, engine needs to be replaced. Advised that additional diagnostic is needed to submit for approval to determine if engine will be covered under warranty. Stuck in cheyenne, wy over 1k miles away from. Dealer can't offer me a loaner too far home and can't offer a rental that can be driven out of state. Forced to find other means to get home. Receive email and have a letter in the mail today vehicle identified as being included in class action settlement for engine failure. So now here I sit and wait not sure if repair will be covered and without a vehicle.

I was not notified of my car's entire engine recall, by mail, email, phone. . Nothing. I was on the busiest freeway (driving the speed limit. . . 75mph) in the state, and my car's engine failed!! I was scared to death. I could have been killed. It was the most horrible auto experience in my life. I am now scared to drive and can't drive on freeways. The whole ordeal, towing, eventual motor replacement , having to drive back up to exchange rental cars, loaner vehicles, etc. , has caused me some ptsd. I was told by the dealer in the town close to where the car motor failed, Hyundai did not send out any recall notices. They did not want to be inundated with owners. Yes, the Hyundai dealership many miles from my home eventually replaced the motor. However, Hyundai did not make it easy for me . Ie. , at first, no loaner car available (I had to get a rental car. ) I have yet to be reimbursed for my towing and rental car expenses. When I flashback to this, I get upset. I can't afford to sell my car, but do not want to keep it either. Look into this. As I said, I could have been killed or seriously injured. Save others from dying or injury please.
Good morning, I'm reaching here because Hyundai had been neglecting helping me with a recall the vehicle has. The vehicle is in the dominican republic. The vehicle is at the magna Hyundai, official dealer from Hyundai in the dominican republic. I'm attaching the last email corporate Hyundai USA sent me. All I'm asking is to fix the engine failure because of the recall. The dealer in the dominican us willing to cooperate if Hyundai USA gives them the green light. The vehicle was built here in the USA. The vehicle was just used for about 1k miles. We bought it in March 2020.

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the alternator and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. Engine 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe limited. 3. 3l 6 cyl fwd. I own this vehicle. I recently read about the class action suits against kia and Hyundai regarding engine failures and fires. . Read more...
Vehicle was in the dealership for safety recall campaign 162 on 11/6/19. Dealership instructed me to get an oil change, drive my vehicle, and return every 700-1000 miles to have oil levels checked. I complied and drove my vehicle on a short trip on 11/8/19. At approximately 8:30 pm, as I was driving down the highway, my vehicle's engine seized and I lost all power to my vehicle. My wife and 2 children (4 and 6) were in the vehicle. We were able to coast off of the road and into a gas station parking lot. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that it would be my responsibility to tow the vehicle, find immediate transportation, and pay for a rental vehicle until it had been determined that the engine failure was due to Hyundai safety recall 162. I feel that my family's safety was unnecessarily put at risk as I had my vehicle at the dealership two days prior for this exact recall. The original dealership examining the vehicle is checkered flag Hyundai. Because I was out of town, my vehicle was towed to tysinger Hyundai where it is currently located awaiting an engine replacement.

80 miles into a weeks vacation my engine light came on, car was still drivable, backtracked 20 miles to dealer, left my nice car (11,000 miles)there for the week while using a rental car with 177,000 miles on it. Problem was pertaining to campaign 953 engine problems. A wiring harness was put in, and the dealer updated the software that had been updated that March, and they said that was all fixed. I have watched the video on this campaign problem, and it scares me where I cannot take my car out of town/on vacations out west! if this engine fails, I wouldn't always be able to get to a dealer. I'm living in the fear of this, and am supposed to have "peace of mind" enjoying my nice car? I had to leave vacation a day early( resort paid for that final night we didn't get to enjoy), spent that night in hotel, just to get to that dealer to pick up my car before their closing time. I had to fight to get the full reimbursement for the car rental and one night hotel bill. Through the attorney generals office, Hyundai finally paid that which was only fair when a recall was involved! now I find that I have cancelled going to out of town funerals, and short weekend vacations, because my engine could go out. I have asked for a new engine, and the last message from Hyundai was all about my car doesn't fit the description for the lemon law. . . . Which I have never mentioned. I have asked for statistics on how many engines have had to be replaced because of this campaign 953 issue, but no one has any! is this true?? how can I get my engine replaced, so I can enjoy my car? that video should never have been out there if I and others have to keep driving with an engine that can be dangerous in many ways!.

Driving CA i580 westbound, bright sunny day (2:45pm 9/24/19) in 2012 Santa Fe with 111k miles on it. Going highway speed, without warning (no knocking, no acceleration issues) the engine shut down: oil, battery and engine lights illuminated. Having no power steering, I muscled the car down the nearest off-ramp (coasting 3/4 mile, I was lucky to be in the far right lane). I had also owned a 2011 sonata that went thru 3 engine failures with symptoms (each time, acceleration issues, gearing hesitation and knocking occurred). With the Santa Fe, no such symptoms, it just shut down after running perfectly. I called roadside assistance and they tried to jump start the car -- no luck. A tow truck took the car to a local Hyundai dealership in dublin, CA. They determined that the crankshaft was frozen causing an engine seizure. I asked if this car was covered under the various engine recalls that have plagued numerous other Hyundai models and they said "no". So it seems I am another victim (4 times over; the sonata was lemon lawed) of Hyundai's engine shoddy manufacturing issues. I am awaiting the Hyundai service department's official report and cost analysis. I will be contacting Hyundai America's customer service tomorrow.
Had oil changed 1,100 miles ago. Threw a rod, ruined engine. Mechanic said my dipstick was bone dry. It wasn't even touching the oil. My oil was changed at the dealership. I've been told by engine parts supplier that this is a known issue with my year, make, and model. He didn't know the details of my issue at all. Yet described it perfectly . I was driving on a busy highway when engine failed. I was traveling 65 mph which was the speed limit. I was able to make it to side of road.
Engine failed on highway, had to pull over and car never started back up.
Purchasing the Hyundai Santa Fe 2013 was the biggest mistake I made. Since purchasing the vehicle I have spent over 5k in repairs, towing, and car rentals. First I was made to believe if I change all the oil and did all updates to the filters my car would stop stalling and shutting down on me that didn't work. Then my car shut down on the highway with my kids in the car almost killing us on the highway. I was told it was the wastegate needed changing. Then it shut down on minutes I exit my home in delaware and I was told it was the alternator and the battery. I was terrified to get in that vehicle and so was my family I filed several corporate complaints over the 2 years I have been ignored and not offered help. I have ask Hyundai to repurchase the vehicle but refused so I had no choice but to take the vehicle back that was in June with the promise and guarantee the car was finally fixed and I was safe. In the end of July I was driving on the I 495 about 40 miles per hour on the highway in the middle lane all of the car just stops in busy traffic a large freight truck was behind me honking to move he almost crushed me he swerve to side barely missing I was beyond frightened cars was flying by shaking the car it was on the hottest day I had no ac and my asthma was flaring up. I beg Hyundai to pick there vehicle up I was denied I called my triple a and they got the car. Now I'm being told it's the engine it's due to a recall that they supposedly already had repaired. I am told it will take 2 months for the repairs and I'm paying for my own rental. Hyundai consumer affairs denied taking there car back. I cannot get in this vehicle again. They refuse to give me paperwork on the recent incident when the engine fail. I fear for my life and my safety I am in desperate need of help please.
Stopped at red light. Everything shut off, engine would not start or engage. No warning lights took it to the dealer, where they said it was major engine failure and they had to contact Hyundai engineering. They could not tell what went wrong. Hyundai want to split the cost of repair because the car was not under warrenty. It now February, Hyundai has not admitted that they have an engine problem. They have try to replace the engine twice ,only to have them fail. They now going to try a differnt engine type. It now time to replace car. I have an case # 16797233 with Hyundai customer service, which has not been very helpful.
Complete engine failure at 105k miles, oil was present in failed engine and was not the cause of engine failure. 5 months and I am still waiting for a new engine from Hyundai.
The vehicle developed a low end engine rattle during idle. The noise would go away on acceleration. Today the engine failed. It won't turn over at all. It's seized up. I checked the oil and the oil is full. I bought this vehicle when it was 2 years old. I've used synthetic oil and changed the oil every 3 - 4,000 miles. The symptoms are identical to the ones on the sonata and other various models. My vehicle was manufactured here in the states. An engine is a huge expense. Especially if it's due to manufacturer negligence. I will never buy another Hyundai or kia again at this point.
While driving straight at highway speed, the engine warning light came on and within 30 seconds the engine completely shut down. The vehicle lost all power and control so abruptly that I was not able to get it out of the traffic lane. After having it towed, two separate mechanics advised that the engine has seized due to lower engine failure, likely a defect in the oil sending unit. The vehicle has 116,000 miles, just being the factory warranty limit, and had had regular documented maintenance and shows no sign of abnormal wear or neglect. I an having a complete and costly engine replacement. I have contacted Hyundai and they refuse to take any responsibility for the defective engine.
Took car in 1 month ago for service campaign (software update) 2016 Santa Fe sport 83,000 miles. While driving on freeway yesterday engine light started flashing and car went in to safe mode was able to go about 1/2 mile before it completely stopped. . Had it towed to dealership was informed today the engine failed. Waiting for approval from Hyundai for new engine. I'm completely stuck in this vehicle now. No one will pay what is owed and I will lose trading it in.
This car was included in the recall of over 1. 5 million hyujdai and kia vehicles due to a factory defect that can lead to premature engine failure. This car broke down on April 28th, 2019. I am having it towed to the Hyundai dealership for diagnosis. The "what to look for" section on Hyundai's websites lists a number of symptoms of this recall issue and what I experienced when my car left me stranded along the highway is exactly what is described on the Hyundai website. The engine also shutdown going 65mph on the highway. I wanted to bring this to your attention since the NHTSA was instrumental in ordering this recall. Thank you very much.
Major engine failure. Dealer is replacing the engine per powertrain warranty.
Engine failed at 63,000 miles while driving on interstate. Hyundai blames it on sludge in oil pan. With out service receipts will not warranty engine. Serviced engine myself and didn't save cash receipts.
While driving engine failed, unable to accelerate and lights on dash board lighting up. Car stopped and put in park, turned off. Tried to restart and car would not start.
My wife and I bought a used 2013 Santa Fe sport last summer with around 79,000 miles on it. Before we bought the car, we searched for recalls and found that certain 2013-2014 Hyundai and kia models were affected by engine seizure due to improper machining. This being said, the vehicle we bought was supposedly out of the VIN range of affected vehicles. Well guess what?!! less than a year after buying this vehicle, the engine seized with my wife driving up a hill on a busy highway. There is absolutely no excuse for a car that has been meticulously maintained to have catastrophic engine failure with less than 100k miles on it. This needs to be looked into! engine failure obviously extends to wider range of vehicles than the recall covers. We are some very unhappy customers. Please look into this.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact called mac haik Hyundai at 361-576-1221 (located at 4404 n navarro st, victoria, TX 77904) and was informed that the vehicle could not be inspected right away. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
I was driving northbound on a freeway to pick up my 3 year old daughter. My car engine completely died/stalled while driving 65mph. As soon as I tried to get into the emergency lane, I noticed smoke coming from the engine. I grabbed my purse which was on the passenger seat next to me, and I exited the vehicle immediately . As soon as I exited the vehicle, the entire engine and front of my car was in flames. The fireman arrived on the scene within 5-10 minutes, but by the time they had gotten the fire out, my entire car was totaled. I had a recall on my car for possible engine failure while driving a year ago, I took my car into sacramento Hyundai where they told me they had fixed it, along with multiple other recalls on my vehicle that I was unaware of. Now, a year later after Hyundai said they fixed my recalls, my car stalled while driving, but this time the entire engine caught fire with it, and the entire car is totaled. It was the scariest, most traumatic experience I've ever been through. If I did not exit the vehicle immediately, I might not have made it out safely.
Catastrophic engine failure on the highway at 112k miles. Connecting rod through the block. This same engine has been recalled in sonatas and kia sorentos of the same year, but for some reason not the Santa Fe. The sonata and sorentos were recalled due to manufacturing processes leaving metal debris in oil passages, which eventually blocks oil from reaching the rod bearings leading to the same failure our Santa Fe experienced. Hyundai needs to expand the recall to all effected models.
I was driving on the highway when the engine seized and turned off. Luckily I was able to pull off to the side of the road. The car had to be towed to the Hyundai dealership. They told us that the motor is locked and will not turn over because of internal engine failure and there was sludge and metal in the oil pan. The assistant manager then told us that this was also a problem found within the 2013-2014 models that had gotten recalled, but there was nothing they could do for us and we have to pay out of pocket for a new engine.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle and had it towed to allen Hyundai (28432 camino capistrano, laguna niguel, CA 92677, (949) 485-3700) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to the valves. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,690.
Hyundai is having problems with the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport 2. 0 turbo spark plugs gernading inside the head and cylinder combustion chamber. This is causing the vehicle to stall out while driving creating a safety hazard to the driver, occupants of the vehicle as well as other vehicles around the vehicle. My wife and sister in law while traveling on ca241 had this occur. The vehicle lost power, and she had to make evasive maneuvers to get the vehicle to the side of the road. She was able to get the vehicle to an off ramp where the Santa Fe then died and would not restart. This seems to be a big problem with their vehicles equipped the this engine as well as the 2. 4i. Hyundai customer service does not seem to help with customers problems regarding this. They are evasive, and are telling customers they will call you with in 3-5 days. All the while your vehicle is sitting at the dealership not running and an engine that does not run. Hyundai needs to recognize this problem, offer it's customers a new engine for this catastrophic engine failure and not puts it's customers in danger of bodily harm or possibly death. How many lives should be sacrificed for the greed that Hyundai is getting by not getting these unsafe vehicles repaired or off the road. This is not just a Hyundai problem but a public safety problem as well. This engine failure is a known defect by Hyundai, and not being repaired. This is a clear case of profit before safety. This vehicle was traveling at 65mph, which is the speed limit on ca241 when this failure occurred.
Tl-the contact leases a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. The contact stated that the engine stalled numerous times when the contact drove at 70mhp and attempted to move out of traffic way. The engine light illuminated while the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to rt2 Hyundai 743 north main street leominster, MA 01453, phone number (978)-534-9999. Several times for the engine failure. However the repair did not correct the filure. The engine stalled when the contact drove at 70mph and the engine light illuminated. The contact had to pulled over and drive no more than 40mph to avoid the engine stalling. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer perforemed a new diagnostic that locate a failure code p1326 and the dealer also test drove the vehicle and was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the engine wiring harness was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer provided the contact case number 16313165. The failure mileage was 31,614. Li.
