Sometimes when I press the gas, the car will basically take an extra second to speed up, and probably 70% of the times that I press the brakes to slow down or come to a stop, itll (also) take an extra second and itll stall/jerk 1 time, then finish slowing down or stopping. . . . Its gradually been getting worse as time passes. . . The engine needs some work definitely! (I'll feel much more safe after this engine recall is fixed!).

Vehicle stalls/dies while driving. It stalled 2 times but when I pulled over, it would start right away. While trying to make it home, it stalled for a third time and while pulling over it started smoking so bad I thought the vehicle was going to catch on fire. Vehicle had to be towed. There is an engine recall for this vehicle but dealer is giving me the runaround. Very disappointed with how Hyundai has handled the incident that almost caused an accident that could off been deadly.
My 2012 hybrid Sonata, 104,000 miles, suddenly started jerking and nearly stalling one recent morning on a drive from home on a divided road. It barely moved forward, badly jerking, message on the screen was : hybrid battery low. Pull up safely an place the car in park". So after 1/2 mile, I returned home. Because of low speed on a divided road, there was a serious concern of being hit by another car. I had the car towed next morning to the Hyundai dealer. They reported 'nothing wrong found' and returned the car which is running fine, though jerking transmission at low speed. I am wondering if this happened away from home, what shall I do. I need assurance that that will not happen again. How do we get that assurance ?.
I own a 2012 hyundia Sonata se with 136,000 miles. This car has a long list of issues from purchase date of 2011 to right now. The engine/transmission has been jerking, stalling and not having full power intermittiently as of the three years but this surpasses it all. July 2, 2019. I was leaving from a parking lot in reverse and heard a loud boom noise, I thought a collision occured. I looked all around and nothing was there. So, I place the gear into drive. . . . . Boom again. My entire body shook and the car proceed to jerk and hesistate through the parking lot. Nervously, I had to get on to the dangerous interstate 35 south and the car struggled to get the optimal entrance speed onto the freeway. It jerked more and more while on there and immediately exited at the first exit. The rpm dial was extremely higher than normal. I had to take side roads to avoid being hit or hitting someone to my house. I have been slightly terrified driving this car before with the stop and go jerking combined with randomly not starting, but now I'm beyond that now. Driving the last couple days has me a nervous wreck with the reading of this issue happening nationwide with our kids in tow. Please NHTSA, make hyundia accountable with these documented unsafe cars on our roads all over the country. This is not right. Thank you.
I had a 2012 Hyundai Sonata I financed from prestige auto in dartmouth MA. The vehicle had 66,002 mileage. I made sure everything was up to date and fixed prior to purchasing vehicle. Long story short with all the recalls these Sonatas have engine being one of them. I stalled on the highway due to this almost causing an accident with the fear of being seriously injured and causing injury to another person due to this. I contacted Hyundai motor corporation and better buisness bureau and was forwarded to contact this. I traded in the vehicle only getting 1,500 for it when I still owed 6,698 and had to pay that out of my pocket. All of this could have been avoided if Hyundai was cooperative but instead they did nothing!! I wasn't keeping a vehicle that was unsafe and to worry if I'm going to be alive or deceased every time I'm in it.

While I was driving on the freeway last night my car stalled. There was no warning lights, sounds or smells coming from the car. As my car began to slow down I was able to maneuver myself to the shoulder avoiding an accident. I put the car in park and turned the car off and attempted to restart with no success. I had the car towed to my home and tried starting it this morning, nothing. It would click, the dash lights would come on but still will not start. I contacted blue link and they told me all system we're green on their end and could not see anything wrong with my car and could not do an on demand diagnostic for my car, I would have to get it to a dealership for them to perform the diagnostic tests. I had no problems with my car, I activated the blue link product 2 days ago and now this happens. I see there has been 8 recalls on this vehicle by visiting this website. I've had this car a little over a month. How can I find out if any of the recalls have been repaired and if any of the remaining recalls could stall the engine. I was told about 2 recalls: #174 airbag control unit and #953 software update to engine control module.

The car has randomly stalled three times, two of which occurred when entering traffic (right-turn major intersection and entering highway). All lights on dash appear without warning and the car wont accelerate, brake optimally, or steer (like in the last instance). Car won't start back up at all now, won;t even try to turn over. All instances occurred randomly while in motion. The first two times it happened the car started up with a sputtering hesitation, now I am pretty sure the engine seized on the last occurrence.

Dec 2016 Sonata stalled out suddenly while being driven at 75 m. P. H. On a rural highway. The dealership took the car for three months returning it in March 2017 having, supposedly, replaced the engine per court order. Now, fall 2018 I made several attempts to determine what was wrong with my car now after if has been using excessive amounts of oil even after a routine oil change and has trouble with holding rpm normal while assening or descending hills. When the oil pressure light appears briefly for one minute it is only at the point when the dip stick shows no oil at all. The dealership diagnostic has revealed the need for yet another new engine, but the dealership refused to pay for the cost saying that they only provide a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty on the replaced engine. I don't believe that they even gave me a new engine to begin with. They gave me one by engine in exchange for another bad engine and are trying to get away with not a "breach of implied warranty. " all problems with my car go undetected by the computer and happen while driving at full speed.
Takata recall. My son was driving down a major state route at 9:30pm when the car suddenly lost power, shortly there after, it stalled out, all the dashboard lights went on and within 2-3 mins, smoke poured from the front of the car and within 2 mins the front of the car was one huge blaze of fire. He was lucky to get out in time. It was very traumatic for him to say the least, not to mention as his parents, we were on face time with him after he pulled over and saw this as it was happening and couldn't be there to assist him.
On June 8th, 2018 my husband was driving down interstate 85 in charlotte nc going about 60 mph when the vehicle stalled. He coasted the car to the side of the interstate. He turned the vehicle off then tried to restart it and nothing happen and power was dead in the car. Then he saw smoke coming from under the hood. The doors won't open so he had to climb out though the sunroof to safety. He opened the hood and the engine was inflamed with fire. He called the fire department, they came and put the fire out. The reason I'm filing this compliant is because he could have been seriously hurtor killed if the sunroof was close. Hyundai has no explanation for why this is happening and my vehowas total lost. We also have pictures and a video. I can't upload the video so if someone contacts me I will email it.

On my way to work I had turned off the highway onto a side street and my vehicle stalled out with no warning or warning lights. I coasted it to the side to safety. When I tried to restart it did and no warning lights showed up but when I went to accelerate it stalled out again. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer, waiting on an answer but sounds like it may be part of an engine recall. This could have been a fatal failure if it happened on the expressway or in another traffic situation.

In August, 2015 my engine seized on my while driving; there were no warning lights nor any warning that anything was wrong with the car. Thankfully I was driving 20 mph on a local resideintial street with no cars behind me so I was not injured. Had I been on the highway I would have been severely injured if not killed due the immediacy of the car shutting down dead in its tracks. A local Hyundai dealership installed a brand new engine and the car was returned to me. I found out a couple of weeks after receiving my car back that Hyundai was putting out a recall for all 2011/2012 Sonatas yet I found it interesting that I had not received any paperwork. On October 11, 2015 my car caught on fire while I was driving. The engine seized, I lost my brakes and my ability to steer the vehicle. Thankfully I was travelling up hill so the car stopped on its own while it sat there and burned and more thankfully, all three passengers were able to get out of the car unharmed. The initial inspection confirmed that it was an engine fire while further investigation is underway. After this incident I began researching the internet to find out if there had been other incidents to find out that there had been, that this had been going on for some time with engines seizing as well as catching fire. On Friday October 30th I received a recall notice but with no clear instructions. . . Just a "sit back and wait to be contacted with a next step". I do not feel that Hyundai is doing enough to notify owners of the potential dangers involved. The engines seizing is enough to cause a potential death not to mention the engines catching on fire. More needs to be done to remedy this in a more expeditious fashion. I am notifying every agency possible in hopes of avoiding anyone else from experiencing what I have - twice!.
