2 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2020

The engine was replaced in 2018 on our 2012 Sonata hybrid under warranty due to contamination. Mileage was 82,,895. On 5/9/2020 while driving heard loud knocking/tapping noise (exactly like last time) along with strong smell of something burning and engine light came on. Noise continued to get louder so pulled over and had car towed to Hyundai dealer in pensacola, FL. We were told the engine would not be covered under warranty and cost to us would be appox. $5,500 for a used engine with 98,000 miles on it. We now have 107,000 miles which is appox. 24,000 on the new engine. Upon investigation we found that 470,000 2011 & 2012 Sonatas were recalled on sept. 2, 2015 after NHTSA raised the issue of engine noise and problems. It replaced engines and increased the warranty to 10 yrs or 120,000 miles. In January 2019 100,000 of these same engines were recalled again due to damaged fuel lines caused when the engines were replaced during previous recalls. Hyundai has declined our request for this to be covered under warranty because this is a hybrid. Other Sonata hybrid owners have had the same problem. We faithfully take our car to the dealer for any problems and oil changes and have all documentation if needed. We would very much appreciate any assistance you can give us. Thank you.

3 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2019

Car stop in the middle of the road when I tried to accelerate the was making a loud grinding noise. Prior to being on this road I was on the highway for about 35-40 miles before it stopped and wouldn't move. When I would put the car in reverse it would make a loud clicking noise. I called Hyundai they said that there was no open recall related to this issue.

4 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2019

I was driving down the highway going about 60 mph and all the sudden it's like the car shuts off, slowing to about 45. As I push on gas it does nothing then about 3 seconds later jerks back up and then repeats. It does this now everytime I am traveling. Besides giving me whiplash, it is dangerous because it could definitely cause a crash. My brake lights have been replaced 5 times in two years. Also there is always a loud clicking noise when driving. It sounds awful.

5 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

When driving in huntsville, al on city streets and the highway when I'm turning my steering wheel it makes a clicking noise and the column appears loose. The brakes are sticking and requires me to push down hard to stop my vehicle. I have replaced the front lights and back ends lights numerous times and they continue to go out frequently. I purchased new tires in June 2019 from bentley Hyundai in huntsville, al and while driving the tire tube popped and deflated. There were no nails in the tire. There was a hole in the tube. I almost crashed.

6 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

I pulled into a parking spot and noticed nothing out of the ordinary with my vehicle. When I was stepping away from my car and pushed the lock button there was no clicking sound. I continued into the building and returned to my car a few minutes later and it would not start. All of the lights would come on, but the brake locked up and the car would not start. I attempted to charge the battery which did not work. I unhooked the battery cables for a period of time to reset the lock system and possibly unlock the starting system, which did not work either. It has only been two weeks since I took this vehicle into the dealership to have the computer system updated due to engine failure issues in other vehicles. I purchased this vehicle less than a year ago and it does not show from what I can tell a recall. However I was instructed by the dealership to have the car towed into them so they can check to see if it is engine failure or a number of recall issues that I have not been aware of.

"takata recall" my vehicle is making a ticking noise that sounds like a rod is going bad. Oil has been changed on regular basis. 13 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2015

While driving through residential area my engine made loud clicking sounds and lost complete power. I coasted to a side street and parked. There was no warning lights or prior issues to alert me that my engine was troubled. Tried to restart and the engine was shaking and making noise so I cut it off and called for a tow. After returning home I begin to research the problem and found hundreds of complaints with the same exact issue on the same model and year car. This told me that my engine problems were just a coincidence but more of a manufacturer defect. I had a mechanic verify that my engine was gone and needed to be replaced. This is an extremely dangerous situation. Luckily I was not driving at highway speeds which some drivers reported. Hyundai, of course, refuses to acknowledge this issue. I see two law firms that in process of filing class action lawsuits. Will it take people to lose their lives before this issue is investigated and Hyundai is make to correct any wrongdoing? I am in the process now of having a dealership do a diagnostic so that I can file a claim with Hyundai. I am not sure if Hyundai will cover the cost of repair or not. However, I think your agency owes it to the safety of the public to investigate this issue and the claims of hundreds of owners about they problems with the engine used.
