Went to start car on wed an was making a very loud noise. Shut it off and check fluids and everything was fine. Had car towed to dealer and the inspected it. Told me it was metal in the engine and motor was shot. Was told that it would be $14000 for a new engine out of my pocket. This is the reason for the recall and now my car is disabled. I am without a vehicle until this matter is resolved. I have video from the dealer but it wont let me send it for my report.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 50 mph or higher, the vehicle would shake and make loud noises while turning. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to faulkner Hyundai philadelphia (11500 roosevelt blvd, philadelphia, PA 19116) where the failure could not be diagnosed due to the diagnostic computer being inoperable. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 18v934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline) however, the dealer declined to repair the recall because the contact did not want to pay the diagnostic fee. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

3 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2018

Driving 85 n to 18 e going 65 to 70 mph, I heard a very loud noise on the road. I determined the noise was from my engine. Waze found Hyundai dealership off ptree industrial 3 miles away. I was in the center lane when I was unable to accelerate, a few seconds later the oil pressure and malfunction light illuminate. I was able to cross the highway and pulled off to the right shoulder. . 7 miles from the dealership. I called , 911, 511 and my insurance company. The dip stick showed oil in the car. Two metal pieces were under the oil pan. The tow truck operator retrieved one. Attached are pictures from the scene. I have all maintenance records but were unable to upload.

5 Loud Engine Noise problem

While driving on a highway, engine made loud noise (not continuous) but several times. Was less than a mile when the power cut out and I drifted to the merge area and off to the side. No indication that anything was wrong- no check engine light, just stopped. Had auto towed to our mechanic and he did a thorough check - indicated there were slivers of what appeared to be metallic pieces in oil (oil was just changed less that 1000 miles). Mechanic declared engine was dead-.

Was driving down the interstate from FL to SC at 75mph with an infant in the car when with no warning started making a loud noise, luckily an exit was right there with a gas station and was able to roll the car in. I called a tow truck and had it taken to the Hyundai dealership where they said my motor has seized. I was stranded at night time with an infant in georgia, 2 hrs away from home knowing no one. I am a single mom that is already struggling financially and now I am told that I have to pay $5,300 for a new engine for a car that is 3 years old!!! I've been reading a lot of the same problems have occurred with other people with the exact year vehicle.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that there had been progressing failures with the steering wheel being extremely tight and difficult to turn in either direction. In addition, there was an abnormal noise and condition of the engine. There was also an electrical short with the internal and external lighting as well as the key fob failed to connect outside of the vehicle. The contact had to start the vehicle up with the fob being in the charger. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and diagnosis. A dealer round rock Hyundai (2405 n interstate hwy 35, round rock, TX 78665, (512) 904-6400) was contacted and did not diagnose the failure. The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to bert ogden harlingen Hyundai 8621 e frontage rd, harlingen, TX 78552 956-4230-5555, to be repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 15v568000 (engine) and the contact was informed that the engine did not need to be replaced. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and the contact was informed that the sound was coming from the fuel pump and not the engine. The vehicle was then taken to an unknown dealer to have a specialist perform a sound test from inside the cabin of the vehicle. The specialist found no failure with the vehicle. The mechanic was informed that on a previous oil change, the mechanic found metal shavings in the oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired with the engine failure and also the power steering failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle had been making abnormal noises with a strong vibration pertaining to the engine while driving at any rate of speed. The dealer rick case Hyundai, 1542, 3550 weston rd, davie, FL 33331, (954) 994-2397 was notified, re-filled the oil and within two weeks the oil had internally went low without the presence of an oil leak. The dealer had not yet determined if the engine assembly needed to be replaced and stated that the vehicle would need to stall to determine if the engine assembly needed to be replaced.
