My 2012 Hyundai Sonata limited 2. 0 has lost power and it is making a knocking sound when you press the gas and it only has 58 thousand miles on it and I was driving it when all this took place coming home from work.

12/12/2020 at 7:00am less than a mile from home my car stalled on a country road. As I was going up the hill I heard a knocking noise. When I reached to the top of the hill the car lost power and all of the lights/symbols on the dashboard came on. The car coasted and then I applied the brakes. I tried to restart the car, tested the battery and check the oil dip stick. There was no oil on the dip stick. Soon after someone said the could see smoke and smell an acrid odor. The vehicle was towed to the authorized Hyundai dealer. This dealer does my vehicle maintenance and oil changes. They told me the vehicle needs a new engine. Nothing was mentioned about the recall or giving me a loaner/rental car. I was told it could take weeks or months for a new engine to come from pr, USA or korea. The authorized dealer has not told me how the process works. Only that the repair will be covered at no cost to me.
Engine failure due to connecting rod coming lose and causing a loud knocking noise. This happened when I was driving the vehicle.
Car has been experiencing clumking noise since 2018. Vehicle would stall all of a sudden. Dealership checked it out and they failed to find anything wrong. On 6/23 I was on the fast lane of the freeway and car stalled and engine light was continuously blinking on and off. Cyclic knocking noise, rpm would not elevate from 1 car just stalled while in motion I almost got hit by other vehicles. Was able to pull car to the side. While engine light continued blinking. Going up hill it lost power as well. I was driving vehicle with my grandkids in the back seat. I feared for all of our lives. Sending pictures and I have a video as well.
Started hearing a knocking sound in engine compartment, while driving down highway, slowed car down to 40 m. P. H. , that's when the engine completely shut off and wouldn't restarted, was able to steer and coast car out of traffic. Looked up that there was an old recall claim for the very sound, but it was closed before I bought the car in 2017.
On Sunday March 29,2020, the vehicle was in motion on a city street, my wife was driving the vehicle to her daughter's house. A knocking noise from the engine and illumination of the check engine light happened. The vehicle then stalled and the engine went dead. It did not respond at all to start it. It was towed to my wife's daughter's house by a friend of mine with a strap to pull a vehicle. The distance to her house was about a quarter of a mile. The next day on 03/30/2020 I went to go check on it to see what the problem was. There was no response on the engine. On 03/31/2020 I contacted allstate, my insurance company and the vehicle was towed by a wrecker to an auto electric business. On 04/02/2020 the mechanic said I needed a new motor, the engine was locked. That same day allstate towed it to a mechanic. On 04/03/2020 the mechanic called me and said the engine was locked and not responding. He said I needed a new motor or a used one. I then left it there until I researched any recalls on this make and model. On 04/08/2020 I found a website that is autoservice. Hyundaiusa. Com and it did say my wife's vehicle was affected. I request a recall on this make and model on the engine to be inspected by a Hyundai dealer. My complaint as a buyer on this vehicle is that we should have been notified of this problem of metal debris generated on the manufacturing of the engine. These engines were manufactured at Hyundai motor manufacturing alabama.
I am contacting you regarding the following recalls, part 573 safety recall report 17v-226 and 15v-568 after visiting Hyundai dealership twice, my car still has knocking noise from the engine, and the last month my car engine caught fire.
During normal driving on the highway (65 to 70 mph), the check engine light started flashing and the car lost power. I was very startled and I immediately exited and headed to my Hyundai dealership. The car had almost no power and was bucking hard. The engine had a loud knocking sound that grew in intensity as the engine speed increased. I drove gently to the dealership. This could have easily been a dangerous accident involving other vehicles as I was startled and lost power at the same time in moderate to heavy traffic and had to make a sudden exit from the roadway to avoid many more miles of travel to get to help.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 50 mph, the contact heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. The contact drove in neutral to an independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 120,614.
Engine failure: I own a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. On Jul 2, 2019, I was driving home from work on the highway in the far left lane, driving approximately 60 miles an hour when suddenly the engine stalled and the car would no longer accelerate. It then started making a knocking noise. This was a very scary occurrence especially to happen on the highway. But fortunately, I was able to slowly cross over, safely get off at the nearest exit, and pull over to the side of the road. Several warning indicator lights were flashing on the car (including the engine light) and I detected a slight burning odor (but no fire). I was able to restart the vehicle but it stalled again and eventually was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed a complete engine failure. The vehicle wasn't repaired but towed to the closest official Hyundai dealership (256 north franklin st, hempstead, NY) for assistance. The following recalls are associated with my vehicle: recall# 17v226000 (engine), and #15v568000 (engine). At the time of occurrence the vehicle had oil in the tank and had approximately 88,000 miles on it which should not have affected the engine at all. I sincerely hope that by reporting this incident, it will assist the Hyundai dealership in repairing or replacing the engine in my vehicle as stated in the recall and thereby preventing this from ever happening again. This is a very dangerous incident and wouldn't want to ever subject myself or my family (who also ride in this vehicle) to a terrible incident such as this or worse.
On June 22th, 2019 I was driving on the highway in my 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS and I heard a knocking sound under my hood and my engine light came on, so I pulled over to be safe. I called roadside assistance but the time of arrival was two plus hours. Since I was within a half mile of my home I continued on. Made an appointment with bentley Hyundai in huntsville, al for June 24th, 2019. My car sat for 2 days because it was the weekend and bentley Hyundai service was closed. The morning of June 24th, 2019 my vehicle would not start so I had it towed to bentley Hyundai. I ask chris erickson service advisor was there any service campaigns or recalls for my vehicle since I had many others for my Hyundai Sonata GLS recently. After about thirty minutes he came back and said no which was not true. Here is the proof: Hyundai assurance car care website it states; service campaign t3g dealer best practice launch February 15th, 2019 for Sonata/sante fe sport/ tucson engine dtc p1326 wiring inspection/installation and engine replacement (TSB # 19-01-006h supercedes TSB # 18-01-032-2). It specifically states affected vehicles affected 2011-2014 my Sonata (yf) vehicles with 2. 0l turbo and 2. 4 engines that may experience the check light engine warning lamp illuminated with dtc p1326. According to bentley Hyundai service department it was a switch issues which caused the problem. I paid $572. 36 for repairs. On 11/10/2019 I experienced the exact same issue knocking under the hood and engine light came on continous blinking. I was almost hit by an 18 wheeler because my vehicle decreased in speed drastically, pull to the shoulder drove very slow to advance auto two minutes away. They did a diagnostic code was p1326. I waited five hours for a tow from nashville, TN to bentley Hyundai in huntsville, al which cost me $475. Now Hyundai is asking me for $6785. 82 for an entire new engine.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was being driven, it experienced reduced engine power without warning and a knocking noise was heard. The vehicle was pulled over and the engine seized, rendering the vehicle unable to be driven. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 18v934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline) and 15v568000 (engine); although, it exhibited the same failures listed in the recall campaigns. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 134,139.
While driving in motion or after driving briefly after a complete stop. The emergency brake light may come on, or the actual brake lights would start to flicker for no reason. The rpms on the car would drop very low and then rise over 3000. The vehicle would then decelerate and not allow to go higher than 25 mph. The engine also makes a knocking noise. This has caused two near accidents ,one being t-boned by another vehicle and another almost being hit in the rear of the vehicle by another vehicle. This has been stated to the local dealership at least twice and they state they cannot find anything wrong that would cause these issues. The vehicle has been taken to taylor Hyundai of augusta each time to be inspected.
My car started making this knocking noise in the motor.
I was driving in downtown chicago when all of the sudden my car engine made a knocking noise and it shut down I rolled to the side started it again but same noise happened I contacted my mechanic he said it might be out of out I towed it to nearest mechanic shop they said your engine blow up they wanted to charge 4500 dollars plus tax to get used engine so I started to call other mechanics to look for cheaper service and one of the mechanic told me before I do that I should contact Hyundai because they had recall for engines on my car. I contacted Hyundai motors and they said its true I typed in on their website my VIN number and it gave me 4 codes for recall that were not completed and it gave me option to schedule appointment so I towed my car from one shop to that Hyundai dealership. They inspected it and said I will not be covered because I have 143000 miles on my car. I just think its clearly not my fault because non of the indicator lights or warning lights went off before my engine died. I am just so upset because I am still paying for this car and now I have to get new motor that is so expensive just because their computer or engine has failed to let me know that is something wrong going on inside of the engine.

Below is a recall from Hyundai regarding the engine. We took the vehicle to get it inspected and the dealer stated it was fine, however, a year later the motor had to be replaced, and the recall info below is exactly what the problem was. The vehicle stalled while driving is how we noticed the issue. Our concern is; Hyundai told us it was fine when we took it in to get inspected and now that the engine has been replaced (by us) Hyundai stated that it was after the 120,000 mile limit (126,000) that is on the recall so no help is provided. If it had been inspected properly the first time, we may have not had to pay to have it replaced, also, if there is a problem, why put a limit on it (120,000), just replace what is not working properly or repair what is the problem. . . Or make sure techs know how to inspect the concerns properly. Is there any help or resource you can provide? your vehicle is affected by the Sonata engine connecting rod bearing inspection recall campaign. To schedule a service appointment, input your zip code below and a list of the closest dealers will appear. During the manufacturing of the engine, metal debris may have been generated during factory machining operations. If the debris was not removed from the crankshaft's oil passages, it could contaminate the connecting rod oiling passages, restricting oil flow to the connecting rod bearings and increasing the potential of premature bearing wear. A worn connecting rod bearing may result in one or more of the following: a metallic, cyclic knocking noise from the engine which increases in frequency as the engine rpm increases. Illumination of the check engine light in the instrument cluster. if the vehicle continues to be driven with a worn connecting rod bearing, the bearing can fail, and the vehicle could stall.
While driving my 2012 Sonata (purchased at freeman Hyundai in irving, TX) it started to have loose steering then started to hesitate frequently. While driving it started to hesitate and a cyclic knocking noise from the engine ensued while attempting to accelerate. Drove to dealership and was told the steering would be taken care of. Was also told the oil had metal shavings which was effecting the motor. The car is under warranty, this is a known issue. The service department is trying to get out of the repairs because the oil changes were not done by them. Any subsequent engine failure could result in my car stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.

My husband purchased the car in Feb 2015. We took a trip in the car to NY in sept 2015. Only 7months of ownership. While driving on a city street, all the lights blinked on. The car started to slow down, we heard a loud knocking noise. We turned the car off, turned it back on again. The car just stalled. Luckily we didn't get into an accident. We towed it to the nearest Hyundai dealer, who told us we will have to pay for another engine. They couldn't even assist us with a rental. So we are paying out of pocket for a rental car. Luckily this recall was set. Hopefully we can get reimbursed for this rental car.

They informed me that my oil pan had sludge and metal particles. They informed me that it was because of lack of oil changes and need to replace the engine. I purchased the car in June 2014 it was used and had 38,940 miles. I've had to buy three 3 starters & 1 battery since I bought it. The mechanic in florida stated there was an electrical issue which was shorting out my starter/battery. I took the car to rick case Hyundai in plantation, FL, after the first starter died, I do not recall the exact date and they told me to get a refund from Hyundai as it was still under warranty. I would have been between sept. -Dec. 2014. I have only been reimbursed $310. 00 from Hyundai to date for the first starter. I get my oil changed every 3,000-5,000 miles. I took the car to lithia Hyundai in fresno twice, Jan. 2016 for recall 132 they claimed nothing is wrong. Seven months later I have the same issue. First complaint, while driving the car home last night the car slowed down and stalled while driving; I had to tap the gas pedal several times and the car took off. This happened on a busy road with cars around. When backing the car, there is a knocking noise. This morning, the car did the same thing on my way to work and I almost had an accident, because it would slow down while my foot is on the gas pedal it was like I am running out of gas and I have the tank almost full. It would take off again after tapping the gas pedal several times. This was on a very busy road with a lot of cars. My fianc took the car August 2016 to visalia Hyundai and they tried to claim my car/VIN # does not show it as being under recall. I had to pay $81. 00 to get that fixed and that issue was part of a recall as well but I was told my VIN # did not show up for it. I have had electrical issues and engine issues with this vehicle since 2014 & Hyundai has done nothing. I brought my vehicle to the dealer while still under warranty, they failed to do anything. I've paid a lot of $$$ monthly for this car & on repairs for a car that isn't safe.
