Just recently my steering wheel started having a clicking sound when turned in either direction it is getting worse every day. Steering is real loose seems like I have less control. I was told it's probably a bushing and that there was a recall but I haven't found anything.

Steering making clunking noise when turned. It's the small coupler in the steering column. Many have this problem and it should be recalled. Makes steering loose and unsafe.
Steering column clunk when attempting left had turn and driving. While at a complete stop, if you turn the wheel to the left you hear a clunk. This is getting progressively worse. Steering feels loose/sloppy.

Vehicles steering column is rattling and shaking very bad steering is very loose. . . Also brake light bulbs keep burning out for no reason every couple of weeks and having to be replaced.
My car model, Hyundai Sonata 2011, has been recalled for engine issues. I checked the VIN number of my car and my car has been affected. When I took my car to dealership they told me because my car is not making a clicking noise they will not fix it. I told them that my car has been recalled and I want them to take care of it. They refused it because according to them they did not hear anything. Recently my car started making clicking noises when I turn my wheel. It seems that the steering wheel is loose. I can especially feel it when I go through bumps. Even when I am stopped and turn the wheel from side to side I can hear the noise. I am hoping that when I take my car to dealership they will fix the problem as I saw a recall for this issue as well. Looks like the dealership only wants to fix the smaller type of recalls and not the major pricy ones.
There is something in the steering which is loose and getting worse. At first it was just a bit loose but now it constantly rattles over bumps and the whole steering wheel is loose.
The steering wheel has a defective part and there is no recall. Complaints all over the internet. The steering wheel clicks when you turn or hit a bump and the steering wheel is very loose. The defective part is a "coupler" that costs $5 to buy, but they want $400 for labor. This is a common known issue and it's a safety hazard, but there's no recall. It's ridiculous. I nearly lost control hitting a bump because the steering is so loose from this defect.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving at any speed over a bump, the steering felt loose when the steering wheel was turned. The contact also heard a loud clicking noise. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the failures started approximately one month ago. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (thomas brothers auto center located at 3034 clairemont drive, san diego, California) who diagnosed that the power steering shaft connector needed replacement. The contact was also informed of NHTSA campaign number: 10v426000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000.
Steering coupling is a known issue with Hyundai for 2012 Sonatas as admitted by the dealer. It is a faulty piece and can cause the steering to buckle while driving making the steering wheel inoperable. The steering wheel is loose, shaking, creating a clunking noise when attempting to turn. It is anytime the car is in motion whether it is city or highway.
Whenever I turn the steering wheel a loud cluck sound happens. It feels like the steering wheel is loose. After doing some research found out that the flexible coupler is the problem. A cheap plastic piece that breaks because it is sandwiched between 2 metal gears, not a good solution.
Takata recall for an issue in the steering column of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Steering feels loose, makes a clicking noise and vibrates when the wheel is turned or even when you just hit a bump . Very well known issue with anyone who has a Sonata. Dealership states that it is not a recall yet as the rubber coupler wears out.
The steering is loose. When I turn the steering wheel, it doesn't respond right away. It makes a click sound when it catches and steering responds. This happens while driving all the time. Its like waiting a gear to catch or engage before the wheels respond to the steering. Appears to be getting worse / more loose.
Clunking sound began to come from the steering wheel at low speeds which just kept getting worse. After about a month the steering became loose and it feels like something is grinding inside the column. Took it to the dealership and they said it would be $120 just to diagnose the problem. A simple google search turned up the problem is extremely common with Sonatas and is this little three dollar plastic wheel that apparently grinds up and falls apart. The dealership still wanted $120 to diagnose was was wrong despite me telling them and then wanted $360 to fix the problem. The car has only 49,000 miles on it but is four months outside warranty. The dealership did agree to sell me the three dollar plastic wheel thing but when I asked if they made one out of metal or something that won't break they apparently do not. I guess I can have a shop put the new wheel in but I will just have to keep replacing it since its the same cheap plastic and will be ground up by normal use and leave me with an unsafe, clunking and loose steering wheel.
Steering is making a clicking noise while driving and while sitting and rattles loudly when I drive over bumps. Steering is loose and has a lot of play. This started at around 70000 miles. Took it to dealership and was told a coupler needed to be replaced. I believe this is an issue that Hyundai has had a recall on in a previous year and still is an issue in the make and model. Dealer wants $220. 00 to fix this problem when diagnosed today.
Steering wheel is loose, vibrates, clicks, very loose steering, not good control seems the steering wheel is defective somehow because there is a lot of play in the steering wether driving straight or turning.
How many more complaints will it take for Hyundai to recall the steering coupler issue. The steering is very loose and makes a clunking sound with excessive vibration at highway speeds to the point that I feel this vehicle is unsafe to drive. The issue started at about 60, 000 miles, out of warranty of course. I am told by the dealer that the culprit is a 4 dollar rubber part, see attached pic, that will cost hundreds to repair. Along with the other recalls related to steering, I'm hoping no one gets killed before this gets recalled.
I was originally told of a clicking sound in April of 2016. I was never able to hear the sound until later on. That clicking noise has turned into a loud clunking sound. The steering was loose and a shaking in the steering wheel with rattling sound at 65 mph. I thought the shaking was caused due to an alignment being needed which I had done today 9/6/2016. I hear this sound when backing or parked while turning the steering wheel to the left or to the right. I have an appointment scheduled with Hyundai 9/7/2016.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 30 mph, the steering column made a loud thump noise and the steering felt loose. The failure was noticed while driving and while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering coupler needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,000.
Steering is very loose, shakes, and vibrates very bad driving at normal highway and side street speeds. It feels like you could lose control at any moment!! I've been told it's the flex coupler! there needs to be a recall issued! I've seen this issue a lot on the Hyundai forums!!.
My steering wheel is about to fall off. Trying to get the car company to cover, but they do not want to. The coupler I believe in the steering is the issue. The steering wheel makes noise and affecting the steering. Fighting with them now the steering wheel is loose and makes a clunk noise when turning or going over bumps it has been going on a month or so.
Steering column bushing wore down or broke making the steering wheel loose and rattle and decrease of steering control.
Steering column coupler- potential to lose steering -I heard a clicking sound when the steering wheel was turning during normal steering of the vehicle. At times, the steering got loose and "flyaway". Because of this, the steering column needed repair at a cost of $325. This problem is well known. The service advisor at Hyundai commented that he was surprised this is not a recall. My neighbor has a Hyundai and he was forced to get the same repair. Numerous posts exist on Hyundai forums about this problem. I contacted Hyundai and they advised there is no recall campaign at the present, but if one comes about, the money I spent for the repair will be refunded. This is a serious situation and I am besides myself that a recall doesn't exist for this. Thank you.
I own a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. When you turn the steering wheel, the steering wheel is loose and you notice an abnormal clunk feeling. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a the steering wheel coupler part in the steering needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Approximate mileage of the vehicle: 90,000 miles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that sometimes while driving at slow speed approximately 5 mph or pulling out of space the steering is very loose and a knocking sound starts when turning the wheels. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed by the dealer or an independent mechanic. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000. Bp.
The steering wheel is loose and making a clicking noise. The airbag light is on.
Steering became loose, car making squeaky noise when in motion. This sound was extremely evident when turning. This occurred primarily on city streets.
Over a 2 day period, I noticed a gradually worsening clicking noise coming from the steering column while driving. . . When turning to the left and right. It happened at highway speeds and neighborhood speeds. . . . Anytime the steering column was in motion. The clicking noise also happened when the car was in idle and the steering wheel was moved in either direction. The steering wheel acted as if it was catching on something. Additionally, after driving over a bump in the road, the steering column would make a loud banging noise. . . As if the steering column was shaking internally. The steering felt loose. The dealership replaced a $1. 99 flexible steering coupler + $223. 89 labor. (not covered by warranty). They told me it was a very common problem, possibly caused by the high heat in texas. . . And the replacement part is manufactured with improved material. I have retained the old coupler as evidence. . . It appears to be a cog shaped (plasic?) wheel with the cogs partially melted. The failure mileage was 19,842.
After driving over a bump in the road would the steering columun would make a banging noise. The steering felt loose and would make a clicking noise when turning to the left and right. I took it into the dealership and they told me it was a very common problem with that model and should be recalled. It was a 4 dollar part to fix the problem and 278 dollars in labor. The part that failed was part of the motor driven power steering.
While driving on the highway and attempting to brake the steering wheel shook rapidly. The steering wheel makes a click when in park and I move the steeping wheel slightly off center to the left or the right. When driving at any speed and go over bumps on the road the steering wheel makes a clunk noise. The steering feels loose when driving on the highway at speeds of 60+. This is an issue that needs to be recalled. When I spoke to the dealer they said that my car doesn't have any recalls on the steering. It is obvious that there are more vehicles with this steering wheel issue that needs to be fixed at the manufacture's expense.
When turning the steering wheel either on parking or while driving, it makes a popping/clicking noise. During driving it feels like the steering wheel is loose and doesn't provide a full control of the vehicle. If the car goes over a hole on the road or a bump it makes a worst noise. If feels like the whole steering column is loose. During driving on the highway, the problem is not very noticeable until I need to switch lanes or make a sudden movement. The car also feels like pulls to the right hand side and I have to constantly make a correction to keep it going straight. At the Hyundai dealership, I was told that there is not a safety recall on this condition and that I'll have to pay for the replacement of the flex coupling which is not cheap. I have also heard that other drivers had to repair the whole steering column/mechanism.

This is an issue that needs to be recalled. When I spoke to the dealer they said that my car doesn't have any recalls on the steering! but found right here on this website, shows the TSB#10-01-32. We purchased this car in 2011 with the full waranty intact from crain kia, which also owns crain Hyundai the vehicle was a dealership demo vehicle. After running a VIN search on this website, it has not been inspected or repaired. This is unsafe and puts the lives of not just the owners/drivers of this vehicle but other drivers on the road as well in severe danger. At this time, if nothing is done, we will pursue legal action against Hyundai north America and crain Hyundai / kia. For their lack of professionalism, selling "unsafe" cars to the public! please reopen this case immediately and have them repair these darn cars. Sincerely, us soldier and family.
I own a 2011 Hyundai Sonata that recently began making a loud clunking noise from the interior steering. The steering is now loose and along with the loud clunking noise you can feel the clunk as you turn the steering wheel. I have an appointment scheduled to repair the issue along with a few other recalls. I was advised to contact Hyundai. I contacted Hyundai and advised them of the issue. I was informed there was a recall on certain 2011 Sonatas in reference to the same issue, however the recall had been closed and my vehicle was not included in that recall. According to the original recall the steering components can fail or disconnect causing the steering wheel to become inoperable while driving.
