When steering there is a loud noise when turning in either direction be it left or right, something is rubbing in the stirring column, with the stirring having for to much play all most turning completely a full circle I have sent in this complaint once before, but gave the incorrect VIN number for my car something is rubbing, and it's a loud sound. The sound is there if when the car is in motion, or standing still, if you turn the stirring wheel.

Steering wheel makes noise and has play in it. While jacked up, the wheel makes the suspension shake. Noise is while hitting potholes, making turns and while sitting still turning the wheels. I bought car used. Had regular maintenance and tires just rotated within past month.

Steering wheel noise making a clicking noise when turning from left to right.
The steering has been progressively getting worse over time. Initially I started with my steering wheel locking occasionally. Then started small clicking and clunking noises when turning steering wheel or going over bumps. Now the noise is all lot worse and the steering wheel feels like it wants to come off at times. I have read several complaints with the same issues and yet Hyundai has not admitted this is an issue with these vehicles. I have been basically pleased with this vehicle up until this issue started. A lot of complaints I read was that this started around the 100,000 mile point, which would be correct with me as well, it started just before I hit 100,000 and has continued and progressively gotten worse.

About a week ago my steering started making a clicking sound when you turn the wheel or hit a small bump in the road. I have had my car for 2 years and 4 days. I have taken it for every recall and had my oil changed like I'm suppose to. It's just odd that it started making this noise out of the blue. Is there a recall on the steering? I know this isn't normal for a cars steering to make noises.

Have a popping noise when turning the steering wheel left or right. Read online 2011 models were recalled for the coupling. How is this not a safety recall on the 2012 model? link below to people with similar problem. . Read more...
Steering column clunking noise and extra play in handling. I have seen numerous complaints on-line and it's a common problem of the steering coupler gear. This could lead to a dangerous loss of steering control. This should be a recall as dealers want $300 for replacement. The problem occurs anytime steering wheel is turned but when driving it is especially pronounced in reverse and turning.
Noise when turning steering wheel to right or left while driving or turning into parking place. Also my Sonata locks doors by itself. I can be in house and car is in garage and I can hear the doors lock. Sometimes when I leave my house to get in car the doors are locked. Why is that? this has been happening for years. Hyundai service said to bring car in and they would check it out. I did not do that due to needing the car every day. There should be a recall for these issues.
Clicking noise when steering wheel is turned. Rattles and vibrates while driving. Control while driving seems loose. 72,000 miles, secondary owner - not covered by warranty.
Purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata around April of 2019. Noticed a slight clunking noise when turning steering wheel left or right immediately after purchase. Took it to the Hyundai dealership in chambersburg PA. They took care of 2 open recalls. Then they asked if we wanted to fix the clunking noise in the steering wheel & said there were no current recalls for it yet. The noise has changed to a louder more constant noise at all speeds and road conditions that is really annoying & makes us fear that there is a more extensive problem. Found out that the 2011 models had a recall for the problem & are very concerned about our vehicle. We drive a lot on interstates & do not want to risk a loss of steering. We have grandchildren that are babies! please help!.
Clicking noise when turning the steering wheel at 68,000 miles. Took it to dealer and was told that 2011's were recalled for this item but not 2012's, so it is a warranty issue, but it was beyond the 60,000 miles for warranty. Dealer said it's "not a safety issue" so I could keep driving it until I had the money to pay for the repair.
Steering coupler was recalled and replaced at around 80,000, engine failed at 106,000ish and was replaced by Hyundai with remanufactured motor, steering is making noise again and acting exactly like before related to the steering column coupler. Noticed a lot of complaints about steering failure issues after engine replacement. Also, voiced concerns about repetitive failure of rear light bulbs and what appears to be faulty poor quality light plugs or too light of wiring for lights on car; nothing done a peacock Hyundai in columbia to check matter or remedy matter. Peacock Hyundai is now stating that the steering column has failed on a 5 year old car requesting approximately 1600. 00 to replace on issue that is acting like coupler problem; one of the Hyundai people in the bay said that is a coupler issue and the other jumped in and said it wasn't. Note: this vehicle had said coupler repaired under warranty; engine failed and was replaced at 106,000 due to shavings in engine (recall or service bulletin), now this reoccurrence of a steering issue has occurred just after the engine replacement. Just to pass this one as well; car has had two brake jobs within two years and I drive conservatively.
Electronic steering failure a lot of noise and the steering column rattles when you hit the smallest bumps. This is a major safety issue as it is difficult to keep the steering straight and it is my wife's call driving my family to school etc. It will catch when attempting to turn increasing the risk of accidents in a situation where you need to be able to make quick moves.
Clanking noise in the steering when driving down roads any little bump it makes noiseand when turning steering wheel it has slack in tension and clacks also stationary and moving.
The steering wheel has been making this vibrating noise especially when you get up to a speed of 70. It shakes violently and there is always a clicking noise when you turn the steering wheel. It almost feels like the steering wheel is going to come off. If there is a bump or pothole in the road it will shake and just continue shaking violently in your hands. This is a common problem and Hyundai wants to charge around $400 to replace a rubber piece in the steering wheel.
Steering wheel noise/clunk. I am experiencing a noise in the steering wheel. After research I saw alot of people reporting the same issue on you tube. A friend of mine who has the same model had the same issue and had it fixed. Looks like it's a common issue on this model cars.
My steering wheel started to feel a little loose and started making a thumping noise when steering left or right. It does this only when the car is in idle or while been driven, does not do this when turned off. I was just told by a local mechanic the entire steering column will need to be replaced.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag indicator was illuminated and a clicking noise was heard from the steering column. The dealer (north town Hyundai, 7420 transit road, williamsville, NY) cleared all the recall codes that were pending on the vehicle, but the clicking noise and air bag indicator failures still persisted. In addition, smoke emerged from the engine compartment. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 106,457.

It does this only when the car is in idle or while been driven, does not do this when turned off. I was just told by a local mechanic the entire steering column will need to be replaced and that it is not the only newer Hyundai Sonata with this issue that he has had to repair. There is a "popping" noise heard in the steering column when turning the steering wheel left or right. This is a well know issue with a plastic bushing located within the steering column. There are numerous videos on the internet addressing this problem. They all deal with the same part being "chewed up" within the steering column.
I have been hearing and feeling a knock noise in the steering wheel. I has been when I'm turning the wheel when not moving. Now it started happening when I'm going to make a turn going slow and the steering wheel has started to feel looser to the turn. I have looked it up and have found many complains about the same issue. I don't know what to do. I called the dealer service dept. To see if there is a recall. No answer. I'm a grandmother that drives 2 toddlers and are afraid about a dangerous accident happening. I don't have anyone to advice me. Please tell me what to do. Should I fill a complaint so it's on record. Should I just go to any auto repair. But after seeing complaints about same issue I'm worried. I din't know what you do but I need advice. Can you check up about these complains and what could be causing this and what needs replacement, so I know if it is a danger. It seemed yesterday to start to be happening while moving which makes me scared to drive the car. Please if you can tell me if this is just to make a report. When I hit any bumps while driving my Sonata, there is a loud rattling noise coming from the steering wheel/column. The steering wheeling also makes a clicking noise if you turn it while the car is stationary. This has all happened within the last several months. It is extremely annoying to deal with. This a 2011 model and I haven't had many problems with it other than this.
